Thanks Obamacare… PSU Students Faced With $1,236 Increase in Health Care Costs

Portland State University students are faced with an additional $1,236 in health care costs this year.
It’s back to the books for 30,000 students at Portland State University, but the tuition bill for some is a hard lesson in the cost of health insurance.
A new plan in effect this year is causing some confusion for students.
Mandatory health insurance has been the norm for PSU students for years. But now, after five years of reworking the policy, a new student health insurance plan has begun.
Every student on campus taking five credits or more must be covered.
The school wants students to be able to concentrate on studies rather than worry about what would happen if they were in an accident or needed other medical care.
Before this year, students paid $444 a year, which provided $7,500 in coverage. Students had no other choice. The school decided that coverage was lacking.
The new policy covers much more–up to $100,000 in benefits with no deductible–but it costs $1,680 a year in premiums.
“We also know that students are one accident away from having their entire college career derailed if they incur medical expenses,” said Dr. Dana Tasson with the PSU Center for Student Health.
However, students can opt out if they have medical coverage through their parents or an employer and it’s comparable to what the school offers.

What does this have to do with Obama? This is not federally mandated and the excerpt says they have been reworking this policy for 5 years, since before Obama was even in office. By providing for dependent coverage for adult children Obamacare will actually help more students be exempt from this cost.

It isn’t just students! Today I received all the info on 2013 medicare insurance. The premium goes up, ALL the copays for doctors, medical care, hospital care, and drugs go up. After paying in my whole working life, my medicare is going to cost me aroound $170.00 PER MONTH. Thanks to Dumbamacare!

And why are your premiums higher? To pay for health care for those who don’t buy insurance. To pay for birth control for those who don’t want to shell out $6 a month at Walmart to buy it there. To pay for more comprehensive insurance coverage that you are forced by law to buy, but which you will not fully utilize because you are now over-insured.

Aren’t you a little embarrassed that you are taking part in one of the largest redistributive program of the big government, Medicare? You are old enough for Medicare and you only pay $170 per month for health care coverage? Do you know how much a private plan would cost someone your age? About 10 times what you are paying, assuming you are in perfect health.

Once again, what does this have to do with Obama?
You have to wonder whether Jim sits up at night making a list of grievances against Obama for things that are wrong in his life. “Stubbed toe getting out of bed…thanks a lot, Obamacare!”
Where does it say the school keeps the money, as opposed to the insurance companies?
To pay for health care for those who don’t buy insurance.
Again, this is one of the problems that Obamacare was designed to address. That’s what the mandate was about.
