Democrats set up “Hug a Union Thug” booths outside the DNC today. They’re hoping the stunt will soften the labor movement’s image in the eyes of everyday Americans.
The Hill reported:
This Labor Day, unions are trying a mix of celebrity, social media and humor to polish up the labor movement’s image in the eyes of everyday people.
In Charlotte, people will be asked to “hug a union thug” at a CarolinaFest booth sponsored by the North Carolina State AFL-CIO the day before the Democratic National Convention officially begins. Also in honor of Monday, videos are being posted online thanking workers while actors and athletes will use Twitter to express support for union rights.
The effort comes as labor has seen increased attacks from Republican-controlled state legislatures and governors since the 2010 elections. Unions were unsuccessful in their attempt earlier this summer to oust Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) after he pushed through legislation that curbed some public workers’ collective bargaining rights.
MaryBe McMillan, secretary-treasurer for the North Carolina State AFL-CIO, said the state labor federation wanted to break down stereotypes regarding union members by dishing out the hugs.

It’s pretty hard to actually derive much from that – nothing but a purported email exchange without any surrounding context.
I do, however, happen to think that there is a BIG reason that TheWon had the massive temper tantrum over being allowed to have a personal blackberry, despite US law that requires the recording of nearly all presidential communications, particularly in light of the fact that his staff people have been caught holding off-the-record meetings outside the Whitehouse.
And I also think that TheWon must have something really big and really nasty that he holds over Bill & Shillery.

Have you ever met a union person? Generally, they’re surly and overweight. I don’t want to hug anyone that fits that description.

Charlotte will have to be fumigated after this boondoggle is over. Certainly the garbage men will be working overtime for days. I wish they had picked another city. This will be a madhouse.
