Wendy’s Restaurants in North Carolina Stand With Chick-fil-A

Jim Furmen, from North Carolina, posted these signs on all of his 86 Wendy’s stores in the state.

The sign, and its implied support of Chick-fil-A’s stance on gay marriage, was the work of Jim Furmen, who owns 86 Wendy’s franchises in North Carolina. When pictures of the signs were posted on Reddit and began circulating online, Wendy’s quickly took to Twitter to say the franchise owner did not represent the views of the entire company, saying “We proudly serve ALL customers” and adding that the signs had been taken down.
Conservative bloggers and writers then took issue with the insinuation that Chick-fil-A did not serve all customers (even its critics haven’t made that charge), whereupon Wendy’s backtracked. “Not our intention at all,” Wendy’s said repeatedly to users that criticized them. “We’re simply saying that an independent franchisee posted the sign.”
They went on. “We’re honored to serve every customer,” Wendy’s said in another Tweet. “We’d assume they are as well!”
It’s not clear how long the signs were running outside of Wendy’s.

I’m sure that it absolutely WAS their intention to imply that, unlike Chik-Fil-A, Wendy’s serves all customers. After all, that would be a smart business tactic that would garner them all that support from the LGBA lobby pushing to boycott Chik-fil-A.
There’s just one problem with that: Chik-fil-A serves all customers too and people were pretty quick to call Wendy’s on their totally erroneous statement, so instead of all that increased traffic from the boycotters, they face losing all their traffic from everyone else.
Hmmm – I don’t live in North Carolina and my local Wendy’s I guess doesn’t stand with Chik-fil-A. I’ll remember that the next time I eat out.

A reporter who covered Chick-fil-A protesters said this today:
“I have never felt so alien in my own country as I did today while covering the restaurant’s supporters. The level of hatred, unfounded fear and misinformed people was astoundingly sad. I can’t even print some of the things people said. …It was like broken records of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh and a recitation of half-truths and outright lies.”
I don’t recall reporters covering Occupy protesters being similarly appalled.

Kudos to the NC Wendy’s owner and Chick-Fil-A! Shame on ANY purveyor of ANY product who refuses to support honest Christians, families and their own country’s founding ideals.

I saw a commercial for Philadelphia Cream Cheese that featured a mixed race couple. This was the first time that I have ever seen this in an advertisement. I can’t wait to see McDonalds or Taco Bell featuring a gay couple feeding each other or looking into each other’s eyes as they feast on tacos.

#4 I don’t know where the reporter was when he said everyone waiting at Chick Fil A was vile, insulting and parroting Limbaugh and Beck. At the one in Chesterfield Valley everyone was extremely polite and patient while waiting in long lines to order, wait for food, and wait for a table. There was no awful behavior like there would have been if the other side had been waiting to dine collectively. It was a peaceful and passive show of support for the first amendment and what we believe to right.
