Within 24 hours Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) has become so toxic to Republicans that his funding was cut off and he was told not to attend the RNC Convention by the GOP leader Reince Priebus.
Kerry Picket at The Washington Times reported:
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus appeared on CNN’s Out Front on Monday evening and spoke to Erin Burnett about the controversial statements made by Rep. Todd Akins, Missouri Republican, regarding rape. He called for Mr. Akin, who is running for Senate against Democrat Claire McCaskill, to “step aside and let someone else run for that office.” Chairman Priebus also said that he “prefer that Todd Akin do the right thing for our party and our candidates” and “not come” to the upcoming RNC Convention in Tampa.
UPDATE: Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told Todd Akin last night to consider his options.

OK, I find this completely over the top. His comment, heck the whole conversation, was stupid on his part and I do think he should back out of the race.
Asking him not to come to the convention is completely ridiculous on the RNC side.

Live and learn?
Not likely.

Now what.
If/when he leave this still will be a cloud over #MOSEN. Reince Priebus is the best thing that happened to the RNC but the replacement will not be a tea party and may even be swishy on pro-life. Sure, rape abortion is fine at any time during the pregnancy, type of person. It may not even be a person who was even in the primary and does not have a stitch of ground game (signs, phone banks ect volunteers) ready to go that can be turned back on for the general.

Now the RNC Chairman is the one sounding stupid now. What’s next…Akin made a mistake, Priebus is way way over his head, if I am Akin so be it. I wonder if this how Priebus told Sarah Palin not to come to Tampa also.

I do feel a bit sorry for the man, still think he’s an idiot for saying what he said, and he went on some lefty show to say, what did he think they were going to ask him?!?
Not sure how the repubs in MO can just pick some random person, whoever was second in the primaries should be now the nominee.
Better it happen now than 2 weeks from november 6th, Mcskahill clearly knew who was her weakest opponent, spent 2 million on ads for him.

‘In a harbinger of what may be coming our way in the Fall of 2012, billionaire financier George Soros has sold all of his equity positions in major financial stocks according to a 13-F report filed with the SEC for the quarter ending June 30, 2012.
Soros, who manages funds through various accounts in the US and the Cayman Islands, has reportedly unloaded over one million shares of stock in financial companies and banks that include Citigroup (420,000 shares), JP Morgan (701,400 shares) and Goldman Sachs (120,000 shares). The total value of the stock sales amounts to nearly $50 million.
What’s equally as interesting as his sale of major financials is where Soros has shifted his money. At the same time he was selling bank stocks, he was acquiring some 884,000 shares (approx. $130 million) of Gold via the SPDR Gold Trust.’

This is not a rino issue. Akin is not a true tea party conservative. He may be a religious nut – you can tell from the Huckabee endorsement – but he was an earmarking fool in congress. Not a small government candidate, not a tea party candidate. Now that he has forced the GOP to cut him loose, let’s pick someone who will decrease the size and scope of the federal government.

As a conservative pro-life woman, I frankly don’t give a flying Eff about his conservative credentials… what I care about is that he thinks there’s a ‘legitimate’ form of rape, which means he thinks there must be an ‘illegitimate’ form of rape… I care that he’s ignorant enough to think a woman’s body will somehow not get pregnant if she’s ‘legitimately’ raped… I care that this supreme ignorance reflects oh-so-badly on Republicans, basically confirming to libs that we’re stone-age and backwards in our thinking. He’s got to go.
Face it, if we can beat Obama over the head with his off teleprompter remarks that we think show his true thoughts about his anti-capitalism and anti-American beliefs, then these remarks from Akin show his true thoughts and beliefs about women, rape, and how babies are made. We can’t afford this sort of ignorance to taint our party; it’s truly a distraction.

Highlander commented:
Personally, I think Akin was misunderstood. He’ll probably never get a chance to explain himself though. The long knives are out.
I just wish the left-wing media would play fair and stick to the facts, and I wish Republicans could summon the courage to confront them when they don’t. For example, when asked to release his tax returns, Romney should have just said “No, that’s personal information and it’s none of your business. Considering how aggressively the Obama camp has been digging for dirt to discredit me, if my tax returns contained a hint of impropriety, the IRS would have certainly crucified me by now. Now, does anybody have a serious question? …”
King commented:
If this was a one time thing I’d believe the furor over Akin was real concern about the election. But this is an ongoing thing with the Republicans. The minute anyone stumbles they cut ties and throw them under the bus. You don’t see the left do it. Hell they’ve got accused rapist Bill Clinton giving a key speech at their upcoming convention. I’m not saying we defend scum, but a little solidarity would be welcome. At least a little backbone. But our side doesn’t have an agenda. They don’t have an ideology. The Republican party is chock full of political creatures more concerned with their future than advancing core principles. Anytime the Democrats attack the Republicans run off in fear. It’s sickening. And it’s why the GOP will never maintain a majority. I’ve heard a lot of conservative bloggers demanding Akin step down, but then what? The tea party wants a conservative candidate who couldn’t win the primary. A loser. And no doubt the RNC will want some party insider. Either way we get someone who couldn’t win a primary and will alienate half of our voters. The key here as in any of these situations is attack! attack! attack! Go on the offense. Use the mistake to highlight the Left’s hypocrisy. It’s what Breitbart would have done. instead the GOP and conservative sphere seem largely united in running in terror. We can’t keep stabbing each other in back after every mistake or allegation. I’m truly disgusted. Buying some more ammo because if this is an indication of the Right’s strength we’re all screwed.
