Oh gosh… Even the GOP candidate is pleading with Akin to drop out–
ROMNEY CALLS ON AKIN TO STEP DOWN
The AP reported:

GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney is calling on a defiant Rep. Todd Akin to step aside in the Missouri Senate race.

Akin, a six-term House member, has been under fire since saying Sunday that pregnancy could be prevented in the case of “legitimate rape” because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

It gets even worse…
Vicki McKenna sent this in on the Freind Study that Akin cited for his claims that women can shut down pregnancy during a rape.

One of the documents Rep. Stephen F. Freind used Tuesday to support his pregnancy-rape theory cited a World War II Nazi study on pregnancy and stress.

Yesterday, the president of the state affiliate of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said Freind’s use of the study was ”inappropriate.”

Freind (R., Delaware) did not mention the study at a news conference Tuesday, but he repeatedly used as a source for his information Dr. Fred E. Mecklenburg, who cited the study in an article.

In a 1972 article prepared for a publication called Abortion and Social Justice, which was paid for by a group called Americans United for Life, Mecklenburg said “medical research” linked stress and ovulation. Mecklenburg is an obstetrician and gynecologist working in Washington.

“In Germany, during World War II, the Nazis tested this hypothesis by selecting women who were about to ovulate and sending them to the gas chambers, only to bring them back after their realistic mock-killing, to see what effects this had on their ovulatory patterns,” Mecklenburg wrote.

According to the study, wrote Mecklenburg, 64 percent did not ovulate.

Freind, the legislature’s leading anti-abortion advocate, has been embroiled in controversy over his comments that it is extremely rare for women to become pregnant as the result of rape.

Although he retracted earlier statements about a “secretion” that kills sperm, he said Tuesday that stress is one reason few women who are raped get pregnant.

UPDATE: It’s official. The 5:00 PM deadline just passed and Todd Akin refused to step down.
What a disgrace.

  1. Akin needs to go.

  2. I believe Todd Akin was paid off by the democrats to take a dive.

  3. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, and think you’re dead wrong, grandmaC. Akin has a great record and is an honorable man

Now, he should do the honorable thing and leave the race. The Senate seat is more important than his candidacy, and at this point, his campaign is toxic. It threatens the balance of the Senate, and even Romney/Ryan’s chances in MO.

You’ve got 1 hour and 15 min, Rep Akin. Please, do the right thing!

  4. the man needs to go, I don’t care that’s he’s pro-life, I’m not voting on social issues, and I’m not a social conservative, but a very fiscally conservative, I want Ryan in the WH, and fiscal cons controlling congress, both houses

    but this statement:
“that pregnancy could be prevented in the case of “legitimate rape” because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.””

WTF?? What hell is he talking about? Does he have clue how offensive this is for women, this is the exact quote the dems will lose for “war on women”, and I will 100% agree on dems on this, he chit is what he beleives, its not that’s he pro-life that people are mad about, its the other sentence that is massively offensive and will taint every repub in the country.

  5. grandmaC has go it right, and I’ve suspected the same thing. The Dems contributed loads to Akin’s primary bid. This is a guy answering to his masters, just in time to distract the national conversation from things that actually matter.

  6. If Akin defies our presumptive nominee, he is an absolute pig! Sorry, I don’t usually speak like that but this man is proving himself to be insufferable and a complete liabililty.

  7. lets get back to the economy!

  8. I will add, I don’t think this man is some evil man, he may be a very nice man, but the damage is done. He does seem to be an arrogant idiot who has some very crazy idiotic ideas about women’s bodies and can’t keep his damn mouth shut, all he had to do was say Jobs Jobs, Obamacare, jobs, jobs, but he coudln’t!

ObamaCare has to be repealed, and what he said has turned toxic, and it will be used, the man needs to resign and withdraw, getting the senate back is heck of a lot more important than Akin.

  9. Without a sustainable economy, there is no government for the fundamentalists, the atheists, the agnostics, GLBT and heteronormatives, libertarians and communitarians alike, to exist and continue the practice of their beliefs. And without doubt, in Barack Obama’s growing fascist state, there is no room for individual beliefs either.

Except for those who seek to destroy the nation in order to eradicate it or impose a totalitarian order, there should be unity in recognizing that Obama needs to go. Incompetents and fools like Akin may have to be thrown overboard by the people as their arrogance combined with their stupidity prevents them from understanding the threat they pose to this singular objective of the people.

  10. He must not understand or care (like the president) how many people have great hostility toward him.

  11. And in related news – President Odoof is calling on Congressman Akin to ignore Mitt Romney and all the other Republicans – stay in the race.

  12. Just call us the Guppy Party. Nothing like eating your own as the Democrats write the play book that we must abide by for fear the Lamestream media will talk ill of us.

This whole media-created storm is just plain sad. Remind me again how many Dems were on record screaming for Mr. Let Me Show You My Weiner to resign.

So he stays in. OK, Missouri, you still have a choice. You want a guy who made a big mistake but has done nothing illegal or you want Criminal Clair who is a staunch supporter of the very Obamacare plan you voted against on an actual ballot? You want someone who will (I would think) vote on strick conservative guidelines or Criminal Clair who you know will continue to sell you out to the socialist policies of the Democrats?

    It’s up to you.

  13. Yes Akin should go, but this pumping up our chest and whipping him publicly to gain points has pissed me off. We don’t do this to KKK Dems or Dems that kill their girlfriends in a lake and run away. No….but a man who screws up an interview we are ready to castrate in public.

And what points are earned? Do you think the Dems, the Libs, or the media give a crap? They are not voting for you Repubs anyway. No, all you did was alienate conservatives like myself. You could have handled this quietly but no you wanted to make a the Dems see how much you really loved women and hate others.

My vote probably counts for little. I live in a very Republican district. But I have decided to forget about politics. Dems/Repubs/Occupy/Tea Pary…..all worthless. Bush 5 trillion in 8 years, Obama 6 Trillion in 4, Obama’s obamacare and Mitt’s Romney care…..

No, you are all the same. It is all the same. America has reaped what she has sowed. Her citizens are worthless. She will fall.

  14. Howsa ’bout Romney stepping down and let a true, pro-life candidate run against the black communist?

I see few supposedly “pro-life” GOP’s defending what were VERY true words.

I am sure I broke 47.5 rules of the game saying that, but Romney is as much an opportunist, and as little “pro-life” – as is the Bammster. Months ago, most were making jokes about Romney (as they should have). Now he is the GOP savior.

Sweet Jesus, Americans can be so stupid!

That the GOP has its undies in a bunch over Claire Baby that they will eat their own, says much about party unity and strength . . . which is . . .

Not much. Wusses. Criticism? OMG!! Bail out!

    Chicken Little always votes GOP.

I have no use for either political party. They manipulate the people, and the people don’t get it, but imagine they are in charge anyway.

    Sad.

  15. I have no doubt that TAX CHEAT and shameless OBOZO suck-up McCaskill, plus the OBOZO campaign, have pledged to Akin to fund his campaign to help their campaigns. If OBOZO can pay his personal mentor jeremiah “God Damn America” wright to keep silent during his campaigns, clearly he’ll pay anybody to help him win. And TAX CHEAT McCaskill will probably charge her pay-off to Akin to the taxpayers in her expense reports, similar to what she’s done in the past with her private plane.

  16. ++

don’t ever believe for one minute YOUR VOTE COUNTS,,

the fixes are in, so sit back and enjoy the New One World Order..

    many tried to open their
    eyes, desperately..

    but the fools they be,
    refused to see..

my party’s may have left me,
but my God is for eternity..

  17. ++

    thank you Mr. Akin..

    if for nothing else..

    exposing the TRUTH..

  18. Akin is a leftist plant.

It’s hard for decent, ordinary people to fathom the level of corruption in slimeballs like Akin, but it’s time to face reality—there’s too much at stake.

Akin’s life has to be made a living hell until he crawls back under his rock and resigns the nomination.

  19. Assault rape pregnancies are extremely rare…How many forced rapes result in a pregnancy?…There have been some studies. In a statistical abstract of the U.S. in 1989, there were 90,000 rapes reported in the United States. [Bureau of Census Table #283]

Only half of assailants penetrate her body and/or deposit sperm in her vagina1, so cut the remaining figures in half. This leaves 5,000 (or 7,500).

Another 15% of women are on the pill or already pregnant. That reduces the number to 3,070 (or 4,600).

So, assault rape pregnancy is extremely rare. If we use the figure of 200, it is 4 per state per year. Even if we use a figure of 500, we’re talking about 10 rape pregnancies per state, per year.

In the U.S. in one year, there are more than 6 million pregnancies. Roughly 3 million eventuate in live birth, 1.5 million are aborted and 500,000 miscarry. While each assault rape pregnancy is a tragedy for the mother (not for the baby, though), such pregnancies amount to a small fraction of the total annual U.S. pregnancies. Further, less than half of assault rape pregnancies are aborted, even though that course of action tends to be vigorously pushed by those around the woman.2, 3

Maybe not much to do with Akin’s statement but if he had made this statement differently.

    Shoulda, woulda coulda.
