Mitt Romney picked Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as his running mate today.
The Chicago Tribune reported:
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate, the Romney campaign confirmed on Saturday.
“Mitt’s choice for VP is Paul Ryan. Spread the word about America’s comeback team,” a Romney campaign app said, confirming widespread reports he had selected the 42-year-old Wisconsin lawmaker who chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee.
Romney was expected to introduce Ryan at the retired battleship USS Wisconsin – coincidentally named for Ryan’s home state – in Norfolk, Virginia, at about 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT) Saturday, a Republican official who asked not to be identified said late Friday.
The announcement will mark the end a months-long search by Romney for a running mate to join him in facing Democratic President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in the November 6 election.
Romney starts a bus tour on Saturday through four politically divided states that he needs to win in November: Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio.
The choice was reportedly made on August 3rd.

I thought Romney would pick a Governor for sure, but if that isn’t a limitation, Ryan is a great pick. This will super-energize the base and appeal to Independents as a competent choice.
Now America has a clear choice. Chicken in every pot drivel from Obama or real answers from Romney.
southernsue commented:
i didn’t care who he picked!
i’m voting obama out!
Ace commented:
Obviously, Romney is worried about the base.
This pick is not a good sign.

And there is MUCH rejoicing in the kingdom! I am so tha-RILLED!!! Whoo hoooooo! I’ve been madly in love with Ryan two summers ago when I saw him schooling Obama on ObamaCare and its impending doom / impact on our economy. Ryan is brilliant and has been the only one in D.C. who not only has had ideas but has also hammered out a strategy.
What I’ve always said about Ryan: I love a man who isn’t afraid to tell the Emperor he has no clothes.
CommieJuice commented:
Intelligent, young, articulate, grounded man with the economic sense needed to help this country. Good choice! He has already taken it to 0bama and all of his attack dog lackeys like Anthony’s Weiner, Barney’s Frank and Debbie aka Danny in drag’s Wasserman Schultz.
Paul is an economic numbers guy more solid than anything the left can even lie about. Rubio would have been the more popular choice to help get younger voters and some that might not vote for the “white” guy, but Ryan is the top numbers guy and very important to the discussions to come along with the solutions to be implemented when they take office.

It’s the economy stupid! This pick is not a good sign, it’s a great sign.
Truth Teller commented:
Fellow, GP posters…prepare to take down the trolls, who will be in full-force today.
The intellectually-challenges lefties are pissing themselves.
DomesticGoddess commented:
Ryan isn’t the pit bull that we need to win. I see him “respectfully disagreeing” with the Obama camp rather than condemning their policies. I met him and he is a really nice guy, but does not have a killer instinct. Solid citizen but isn’t cunning, and I don’t think he will even recognize when he is being played by the libs.
Calamity Jane commented:
Ryan was one of 3 whom I could support as a VP choice. I would say that he WILL solidify the base.
I’d vote for a can of dog food before I’d cast a vote for the tenant temporarily residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
ANYTHING BUT BARRY (or whatever his real name is)!

After Mitt Romney’s VP choice of Paul Ryan, General David Petraeus is being looked at as Secretary of Defense.
Current Obama Generals expected to retire in droves by years end for having to implement Obama policies in regards to DADT and Rules of Engagement troops were forced to endure in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Conservative Ken commented:
Image a Ryan/Biden debate. SPANK!
Cutlers Bad Thumb commented:
Exactly…This is a great pick, Ryan’s a smart guy with a no beating around the bush attitude. (no pun intended) .
I’ve been proud of Wisconsin through all it has been through with Walker & the unions. Now there is another Wisconsin rep that will make good choices for America….ROMNEY/RYAN 2012.

Excellent choice, now we will find out if we are a nation of innovators and freedom fighters or a nation of takers and slackers. My bet is on the good people of America who truly love ALL that liberty represents.
Chataranga commented:
Solid choice by the Romney team. Just dump that retreating spokeswoman and replace her with someone with the smarts of Sununu and the wherewithal of Palin and we’re golden. This is VERY exciting. On Wisconsin! (and that’s coming from a dyed-in-the-wool Buckeye fan!).
Chataranga commented:
succotash: nail / head!

Have you seen Ryan’s plan to save Social Security and Medicare? It’s another politicians plan to relabel the boxes, and shuffle those boxes around on the organizational charts. It’s the command and control, central committee’s political reaction to an *economic* problem.
The only way, the only way to save Social Security and Medicare is to get the US economy roaring along at %5-%8 percent growth, not growth fueled with imaginary, virtual electronic deposits in online money accounts, but real growth where good people can find good opportunities, that’s opportunities where you go out and find them and work to take advantage of them, without the burden of oppressive government regulation that prevent you from seeking and achieving your own success. Good jobs at good wages where prudent people can invest in a prosperous economy so that when you reach the end of your working life YOU WON’T NEED SOCIAL SECURITY.
All Ryan’s plan does is relabel the government agencies that will control your retirement. It doesn’t change a thing. It’s the same thing Mark Steyn said about National Health Care. It’s the argument over who will be the better administrator of the government’s control over your life.
