The US poverty rate is on track to reach its highest level since the 1960′s.
According to a report from a year ago, tearly one in six Americans is living in poverty – a thirty year high.

The AP reported:

The ranks of America’s poor are on track to climb to levels unseen in nearly half a century, erasing gains from the war on poverty in the 1960s amid a weak economy and fraying government safety net.

Census figures for 2011 will be released this fall in the critical weeks ahead of the November elections.

The Associated Press surveyed more than a dozen economists, think tanks and academics, both nonpartisan and those with known liberal or conservative leanings, and found a broad consensus: The official poverty rate will rise from 15.1 percent in 2010, climbing as high as 15.7 percent. Several predicted a more modest gain, but even a 0.1 percentage point increase would put poverty at the highest level since 1965.

Poverty is spreading at record levels across many groups, from underemployed workers and suburban families to the poorest poor. More discouraged workers are giving up on the job market, leaving them vulnerable as unemployment aid begins to run out. Suburbs are seeing increases in poverty, including in such political battlegrounds as Colorado, Florida and Nevada, where voters are coping with a new norm of living hand to mouth.

Voters blame Obama and Washington for the current economy. Nearly twice as many voters blame Barack Obama over George W. Bush for the current economy.
The Hill reported:

Two-thirds of likely voters say the weak economy is Washington’s fault, and more blame President Obama than anybody else, according to a new poll for The Hill.

It found that 66 percent believe paltry job growth and slow economic recovery is the result of bad policy. Thirty-four percent say Obama is the most to blame, followed by 23 percent who say Congress is the culprit. Twenty percent point the finger at Wall Street, and 18 percent cite former President George W. Bush.

The results highlight the reelection challenge Obama faces amid dissatisfaction with his first-term performance on the economy.

  1. I don’t blame Obama for the economy, I blame the entire Democrat party and progressive policies. I also blame weak GOP members and establishment GOP progressives like Romney.

Most of all I blame the American people.

  2. Oh No!! This report can’t be . Ovomit according to Peggy said he would give her free gas & pay he mortgage . Surprise! We have the highest % of people in poverty since Lyndon Johnson first began rewarding poverty with giant handouts to subsidize it.
Ovomit like all all democorrupts wants more poverty so they can usurp more power while claiming to be ending it. The left and their tools in the media and government simply love enslaving their clueless taker fools with little minds & big greed as the pols & their bureaucrats seize control of our society.

  3. I think what we are seeing here is the result of people starting to finally pay attention. Anyone who still blames the former POTUS for the economy after the current POTUS has been in office an entire year is either a partisan or an idiot (or perhaps both).

What this means is that as the election nears, Obama should start to fall further and further behind. I see a future where the MSM is giving Democrats 20+ point advantage in their polling just to keep it close. But as Democrats see Obama destroying their brand even that may not work.

  4. Obama’s dream of a second term will be sacrificed on the pyre of political expediency as Democrat Senators and Congressmen begin to campaign against him to save their own hides.

  5. “after the current POTUS has been in office an entire year…”

Ooops, meant to type “entire term,” not “entire year.”

  6. They must concede that it was the failure of a government program, part of the social safety net known as the ‘Community Reinvestment Act’, that is largely responsible for the collapse of the housing market.

“Trouble at Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac” is just a nice way of saying that ‘THE HOME OWNERSHIP WELFARE PROGRAM HAS FAILED’ and caused immense damage to the rest of the American economic system. The left put our future in jeopardy to further it’s own political agenda. It heavily damaged the finances of people who have been ‘in the clear’, and it destroyed the cash-flow of the very group it set out to assist.

Liberals are the type of people who all come together as a community to build a day care center, but when they load up the truck full of building materials and back it into the lot to begin work, THEY RUN OVER ALL THE CHILDREN. They have a dangerous tunnel vision!

  7. LBJ has lost yet another war.

  8. I’ll say it once again: There are two Americas. The one America has become very large, and it is made up of parasites. The parasites don’t want jobs. They want handouts.

And for four years, they’ve had their black sugar daddy catering to their venality.

When Romney talks about restoring American values, it’s completely lost on the uneducated Section VIII parasite trying to figure out where he can get a government-issued cellphone. The parasite class is, by definition, un-American. It is the biggest blight on this nation.

  9. Welcome to the Obamanation:

    Borke, massive Debt, Poverty exploding!

  10. Two more coal mines have shut down in Pa., already seen shut downs in Ky and Wv.

Coal miners don’t want to sit on their butts, they want to work and provide for their families. Coal mining jobs are good paying jobs here.

Next will be heavy eq. dealerships, and the people that work there..

Obama care not, how many are unemployed here, all he wants to do is keep flinging more of our tax dollars to foreigners, here or over there!

  11. I feel for this man but how does he afford cat food?
