New York City will memorialize Trayvon Martin with a massive new mural.

The New York Daily News reported, via Free Republic:

The city’s first known Trayvon Martin mural is going up on a wall of an East New York laundromat – adding to a brewing campaign to make sure history doesn’t snub the slain teen’s image.

Teenage boys will start painting the 100-foot picture July 16 on New Lots Laundromat’s wall underneath the elevated tracks of the IRT No. 3 train.

The East New York mural will join a growing list of similar street art popping up in black neighborhoods across the country.

“We want him to become a martyr, and it’s sad that we even have to say that,” said Catherine Green, executive director of ARTs East New York Inc., who is overseeing the project.

“We want to see change coming out of this. People see a young man with a hoodie and they think he is a criminal.”

The seven young painters will show off the outline for the giant image in mid-July but are set on drawing Martin dressed in the his famed sweatshirt.

“It goes back to hip-hop and how people dress. When you see that hoodie, it signifies what people think about our young men in our community,” Green said.

He is really an Angel sent by God, as is Barrack, to enlighten us as to how evil White people are and that no person of color could possibly do anything wrong. Uhmmm… you missed some quite subtle but important steps in the decision process.

Let me go through it for you. People get jumped by a black youth wearing a hoodie and start to get their face pounded in, their nose broken, their head repeatedly slammed into the concrete pavement in an effort to knock them out so they can be robbed (or worse), THEN they think he’s a criminal. Got it?

Can someone please explain to me why, esp. during the reign of Barack Obama, prominent black role models don’t speak to young African Americans on the benefit of two parent lifestyles, the proper use of the English language, and a good education? (Oprah, Denzel, Hallie, etc.) All they need to do is spotlight their own lives. Very sad.

Perfect location – East New York is a bottom of a septic tank. I cannot think of worse place in any of NYC’s 5 boroughs. If you’re white & somehow end up there, your chance of making it out of East New York alive & unharmed are low. Your only chance would be being picked up by NYPD, who would instantly assume you got lost while trying to buy drugs.
