An Arizona man was sentenced to 60 days in jail, given a $12,180 fine and granted three years probation for holding a Bible study in his home.

The Blaze reported:

Michael Salman, who lives in Phoenix, Ariz., has been sentenced to a startling 60 days in jail, given a $12,180 fine and granted three years probation for refusing to stop hosting Bible studies at his home. Why, you ask? He‘s apparently in violation of the city’s building code laws.

City officials claim that he’s running an operation that is reminiscent of a home church — but without the required permits. And according to Fox’s Todd Starnes, Phoenix court documents show that he violated 67 codes. Unless the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals grants an emergency injunction, he will be jailed as early as next week.

  1. “Unless the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals grants an emergency injunction, he will be jailed as early as next week”.

That’s the one in San Fran….I’m not holding my breath waiting for them to stand up for the church.

    Gov. Brewer,can you say pardon.

  2. Hasn’t this same situation already been resolved by the SCOTUS on numerous occasions? Cities have tried to use zoning codes to shut down churches and private prayer meetings and street preachers and evict strip-mall churches for years and always lost to the First Amendment. Doesn’t ANY level of government understand and respect the Constitution anywhere in this country anymore?

  3. And how would this have played out differently were the religion Islam instead of Christianity?

  4. Had enough government yet, people?

  5. Let me be clear, this is exactly My Kind Of Government. A government that’s vastly expansive, intrusive, iron-fisted, and one that puts Christians in jail!

These government workers only make about $125,000.00 per year to invade the privacy of homeowners, interfere with their religion and jail them. We can do better!

We can hire more government workers at $250,000.00 per year to invade the privacy of homeowners, interfere with their religion and shake them down – or put them in jail. No government regulation too small to be ignored… Unless it suits me.

I envision a nation where I will Micromanage every person in this country. I will tell them what to do, when to do, and how much money it will cost.

If I am reelected for Four more years I will have a government agent in every garage, in every city and in everybody’s face. I will badger and intimidate people six ways to Sunday. I will eventually become their ruler!

Help me achieve my type of change. Send $3.00 to me before midnight!

My Enormous pig of a bus is over-heating and David Axelrod has a new scam to trick my donors. I cannot give you the details because of its nature. I have said too much Good day.

  6. Tar, Feathers, City council. Some assembly required.

  7. He is trying to shoehorn over forty people into a structure that failed to pass code. This is barely a human interest fluff piece and you want to make this guy into Saint Bartholomew. Your persecution complex knows no bounds.

  8. sounds like they have an atheist in their nieghborhood, what happened with love thy nieghbor,
there goes the family reunion and a prayer before we all eat,my neighbor might turn me in.
Let’s get these commies out of office through out the nation

  9. How dare these criminals worship god outside of government edict.. Only 503C are allowed as they will direct their congregation to blindly follow government orders dispite the morality of them.. The government has infiltrated all 503C churches and other regious organizations.. They are not Gods Church “the bride of Christ” but belong to the government lock, stock, and barrel!

  10. Minty regurgitated: “He is trying to shoehorn over forty people into a structure that failed to pass code. ”

In my former church (we moved, if you must know), a couple regularly held a yearly Christmas party in their home that included about that many people. The gathering included the singing of Christmas hymns, reading the Christmas story from the Bible and prayer, and I doubt their home would “pass code.” Should they have been reported, fined and jailed, too?

  11. LYNNO commented: “sounds like they have an atheist in their nieghborhood”

    I bet it was Minty.

  12. “In Barack’s America, people are going to be forced to change. They’re going to have to get out of their comfort zones, their religions, their tired beliefs. They’re going to be compelled if need be to move beyond their bitterness, their futile clinging to tired old ‘white-man’ documents like the Constitution.” -a reading of Michelle Obama in 2008.

  13. Got a source for that, Multitude?

Precisely. Christ is the Head and the Church is His Body on Earth. The IRS has attempted to insert itself between the Church and His Body, but the Enemy’s plan will fail. They will only succeed in triggering the true Church to reassert itself as “light” and “salt” in our land. What we have now is a “soft” tyranny in which the government is influencing, to various degrees, the 503c congregations’ activities and message. As long as Christians are content to “play Church” and stay out of the way, the government will not pay much heed. Yet, as soon as Christians, particularly as Congregations, begin to come out of their slumber and begin to make a difference (by following Christ’s leadings), the government will crack down. Then the Church will have to go underground, and the faux-Church organizations will become the “official” government approved houses of worship just like in the old Soviet Union. I’ve come to believe that the best thing that could happen to the Church in America is to throw away its 503c status and begin devoting itself to true Spiritual worship: fasting, praying, studying His Word, serving others, and sharing the Good News …this is how Christ’s Body could once again become a pervasive salt and light to this darkening country.

  15. Looks like we will all have to

    Go underground. Just like the

    Freemasons of old and the

    Church’s under king George.

    Eff em he’s almost done.

We have ally of work to do.

    Powder is dry.

  16. I remember a story like this in the news a couple of years ago, and it all worked out fine… No, wait. That was some people running an S&M swingers’ club in their suburban home, and, yeah, it was deemed OK in the end. But a prayer meeting? OMG! STOP THEM!

  17. Plus, his home was probably just declared a federally protected Wetland.

The problem with having too many liberal legislators is too many laws, and the price of disagreement is an arrestable crime for anything they want.

Ask any cop. I defy anyone who is not in a coma to make it through a single day without violating some law or another. You just can’t do it. I probably break 10 or 20 laws every day, and so do you.
