Islamic Clerics Call on Egypt to Destroy Great Pyramids

They’re offensive.

Islamic Spring.
Several Islamic clerics called on Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammad Morsi to destroy the great pyramids and finish the work of Mohammad companion Sahabi Amr bin al-As.
AINA reported:

According to several reports in the Arabic media, prominent Muslim clerics have begun to call for the demolition of Egypt’s Great Pyramids–or, in the words of Saudi Sheikh Ali bin Said al-Rabi’i, those “symbols of paganism,” which Egypt’s Salafi party has long planned to cover with wax. Most recently, Bahrain’s “Sheikh of Sunni Sheikhs” and President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud, called on Egypt’s new president, Muhammad Morsi, to “destroy the Pyramids and accomplish what the Sahabi Amr bin al-As could not.”

This is a reference to the Muslim Prophet Muhammad’s companion, Amr bin al-As and his Arabian tribesmen, who invaded and conquered Egypt circa 641. Under al-As and subsequent Muslim rule, many Egyptian antiquities were destroyed as relics of infidelity. While most Western academics argue otherwise, according to early Muslim writers, the great Library of Alexandria itself–deemed a repository of pagan knowledge contradicting the Koran–was destroyed under bin al-As’s reign and in compliance with Caliph Omar’s command.

However, while book-burning was an easy activity in the 7th century, destroying the mountain-like pyramids and their guardian Sphinx was not–even if Egypt’s Medieval Mamluk rulers “de-nosed” the latter during target practice (though popular legend still attributes it to a Westerner, Napoleon).

Now, however, as Bahrain’s “Sheikh of Sheikhs” observes, and thanks to modern technology, the pyramids can be destroyed. The only question left is whether the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt is “pious” enough–if he is willing to complete the Islamization process that started under the hands of Egypt’s first Islamic conqueror.

Nor is such a course of action implausible. History is laden with examples of Muslims destroying their own pre-Islamic heritage–starting with Islam’s prophet Muhammad himself, who destroyed Arabia’s Ka’ba temple, transforming it into a mosque.

In December the Salafist Party in Egypt, which just won 20 percent of the vote, wanted to cover the “idolatrous” Giza pyramids with wax.
Now they want to blow them up.

This has been in the works for a couple of years. No surprise there. Expect to see a good number of the worlds historical monuments disappearing in the name is “islam” over the coming years.

I continue to search for any reliable historical information that indicates what religion[S] the Tribes and other ethnic groups who populated the Middle East practiced: (a) before Christ, that is prior to 33 AD; and (b) after Christ and before Mohammed, that is between 33 AD and about 700 AD. Were they pagans. Jews, Christians or what?

It seems that the answers might enlighten and even pacify some Islamists who act as if the Muslim faith has been predominant and trumps all other religions since the beginning of time.

Dumb as rock “moderates” … wax in the desert?

They won’t take them down, though. They’ll just turn them all into mosques and claim that they were built as mosques. After all, the koran claims that Joseph … and Jacob and Abraham and everyone else in the Bible were all muslims, anyway.

“”How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries.

Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. ”

The destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas was an act of pure savagery. I hope and pray that the civilized world will at last step in if they try anything of the kind in Egypt. We can hope that the Chinese might at last join us to stop this as even the commies have finally gained an appreciation for the wonders of antiquity.

  • Adirondack Patriot

They just want to destroy the pyramids because they represent hard work and labor by Jewish workers under Pharaoah.

Arabs could never ever work so hard. They need to hire Indians and Malaysians to do their hard work for them.

Culture of destruction. They have zero ability to create, just destroy. They have zero respect for anything. The world needs to put Islam in the toilet bowl where it belongs. The great war is coming: Christianity vs. Islam. God will win out, and put Allah (aka Satan) where he belongs.

  • FurryGuy

The pyramids were originally clad in white Tura limestone, highly polished, until the Islamists conquered the country and cannibalized the stones to build the mosques of Cairo. Some of the casing stones are still extant at the top of the second pyramid which have weathered to a tan color.

Islam always tries to destroy non-Islamic history in a ignoble attempt to show only Islam is true history.

Totally wrong time period. The best known pyramids are generally recognized as being built in the Old Kingdom, 3rd to 5th Dynasty, even though there are 138 pyramids discovered in Egypt as of 2008, many of which are attributed to being built during the Middle Kingdom. The Egyptian Sojourn and Exodus have been previously been dated to the New Kingdom‘s 19th Dynasty with some very credible new research showing more likely it happened during the 2nd Intermediate Period when the Hyksos invaded the country.

The hard evidence is murky, especially because the Egyptian government for decades refused archaeological excavation, but there is evidence that a Jewish temple was built on Elephantine island that may have had as “authority” as the temple in Jerusalem. Incontrovertible evidence points to extensive Semitic (pre-Judaic) settlements and influence during the 2nd Intermediate Period in the Delta area known as Lower Egypt.

  • RedStateGal

It would be a tragedy. However, perhaps a few currently-gullible individuals would WAKE UP and realize that Islam is not about spirituality. That would be a benefit to the rest of the world. And who is signing up for their Egyptian vacation right now? I would be amazed to find that level of stupidity had the ability to pack their own suitcase.

The Great Library of Alexandria was burnt centuries before by the invading Romans. Islam has traditionally esteemed science and if it wasn’t for that many of the ancient science and philosophy writings of the Greeks and Romans would have been lost. It just goes to show how far out the Salafists are from reality…they don’t even know they’re own history, or if they do then they are so extreme that everyone that is not them is hated by God. That’s not the message of any religion.

  • shibumi

Oh, they will eventually destroy themselves. Remember, the #1 killer of Muslims is other Muslims. After they get rid of Big/Little Satan, then they’ll kill each other more vigorously.

This crusade by Islam will not save them. They are bent on destroying anything and everything that is not of Islam. They will soon see that such destruction will not feed them. Though Egypt’s Nile valley, and delta are still a bread basket in that part of the world, the ignorance and barbarism of these mutants will bring famine to their land. Not really. The Persians had some appreciation of science, but the arabs never did. A lot of what the Persian muslims claimed credit for was actually Indian. And it was mostly the Byzantines who saved and protected the Greek knowledge, not the muslims.

In the land of “mentally unstable” – by D. Asghar

[When the news reached the Twitterverse that a man was burnt
alive in Bahawalpur, it just created a cycle of shock and disbelief.
Very regretfully, this scribe was not shocked one bit. Knowing full
well, what we are capable of and how low we have stooped in the
past, this was just part of the ongoing continuum.

The irony of the matter is, that a person who was supposedly and
reportedly, mentally unstable was found desecrating the pages of Holy
Quran. I am no religious scholar, but from what little I know about my
faith, such individuals are exempt from all religious obligations, such as
prayer, fasting, alms etc. The basis of course is, that these people are
not able to decipher between the right and wrong due to their state of
mind. Similarly, even the sane people are prohibited from praying, if they
are under the influence of any substance, as it mirrors an unstable mind.
Hence to expect discretion from such a person is absolutely futile.

The irony of the matter is, that otherwise sane people who perhaps
lead normal lives, were unable to differentiate between a deranged
and a normal person. When the deranged individual allegedly desecrated
the Holy Book, people were upset beyond belief. The basis of every
religion is Good. Good teaches us to maintain sanity at all times and
have an unyielding faith in our Creator. Let’s assume for a minute that
this allegedly blasphemous act was done by a sane person. What would
be the appropriate redress for such an act. Definitely not disobeying
the law and threatening police and ultimately burn the person to death.

A society that is so upset with its own shortcomings, failures and
internal fissures, tends to lean towards such barbaric acts. This
is in a way all the bottled up frustrations of self humiliation, which
erupt in such an inhumane manner on the most vulnerable elements
    and members of the society.

But wait why was I not surprised or impacted, as I said earlier. A
society that accepts people blown into pieces at places of worship
so regularly, where women parade without clothes as a punishment,
where rape and sodomy are protected to salvage the family honor,
where murderers are garlanded by those who are supposed to advocate
law and order and where religion is used and misused to silence dissent
must be truly INSANE. So in a land of mentally unstable, if one more
person was burnt alive why mourn this loss. Its not the first time that
this incident occurred and trust me, it would not be the last either.
Expecting sanity from an insane society is insanity, isn’t it?]

Bless you D. Asghar, and Amen to that..

““I am the Lord thy God,” says the First Commandment, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” For Israel this was first and foremost a demand of fidelity, by which God bound His people to Himself, even if in later years it became also a proclamation to the nations. To Christians, however, the commandment came through — and so was indissolubly bound to — Christ. As such, it was not simply a prohibition of foreign cults, but a call to arms, an assault upon the antique order of the heavens — a declaration of war upon the gods. All the world was to be evangelized and baptized, all idols torn down, all worship given over to the one God who, in these latter days, had sent His Son into the world for our salvation. It was a long and sometimes terrible conflict, occasionally exacting a fearful price in martyrs’ blood, but it was, by any just estimate, a victory: the temples of Zeus and Isis alike were finally deserted, both the paean and the dithyramb ceased to be sung, altars were bereft of their sacrifices, the sibyls fell silent, and ultimately all the glory, nobility, and cruelty of the ancient world lay supine at the feet of Christ the conqueror.”

  • Kay

I’m not too worried about the pyramids — they’ve survived a lot more than these 7th century idiots can throw at them. I’m more worried about the less robust pharonic treasures and papryi and temples. Gold melted down, gem stones prised out of statutes, papyrus burned. I understand some of that latter is already occurring.

I suspect that one of the reasons why these islamist nuts go after these old civilizations is that they haven’t been able to create anything comparable on their own.

Excuse me but the destruction of the Great Library of Alexandria by the Arabs is a lie. At best inaccurate information, or misinformation at that matter. Arabic sources (from Wikipedia)

In 642, Alexandria was captured by the Muslim army of Amr ibn al `Aas. There are five Arabic sources, all at least 500 years after the supposed events, which mention the fate of the library.

Abd’l Latif of Baghdad (1162–1231) states that the library of Alexandria was destroyed by Amr, by the order of the Caliph Omar.[31]
The story is also found in Al-Qifti (1172–1248), History of Learned Men, from whom Bar Hebraeus copied the story.[32]
The longest version of the story is in the Syriac Christian author Bar-Hebraeus (1226–1286), also known as Abu’l Faraj. He translated extracts from his history, the Chronicum Syriacum into Arabic, and added extra material from Arab sources. In this Historia Compendiosa Dynastiarum[33] he describes a certain “John Grammaticus” (490–570) asking Amr for the “books in the royal library”. Amr writes to Omar for instructions, and Omar replies: “If those books are in agreement with the Quran, we have no need of them; and if these are opposed to the Quran, destroy them.”[34]
Al-Maqrizi (1364–1442) also mentions the story briefly, while speaking of the Serapeum.[35]
There is also a story in Ibn Khaldun (1332–1406) which tells that Omar made a similar order about Persian books.[36]
The story was still in circulation among Copts in Egypt in the 1920s.[37]

Edward Gibbon tells us that many people had credulously believed the story, but “the rational scepticism” of Fr. Eusèbe Renaudot (1713) did not.[38]

Alfred J. Butler himself, Victor Chauvin, Paul Casanova, Gustave Le Bon[39] and Eugenio Griffini did not accept the story either.[28]

Bernard Lewis has argued that this version, though untrue, was reinforced in mediaeval times by Saladin, who decided to break up the Fatimid caliphate’s collection of heretical Isma’ili texts in Cairo following his restoration of Sunnism to Egypt, and will have judged that the story of the caliph Umar’s support of a library’s destruction would make his own actions seem more acceptable.[40] Kelly Trumble[41] and Roy MacLeod[42] reject the story as well.

Luciano Canfora included the account of Bar Hebraeus in his discussion of the destruction of the library without dismissing it.[43]

Wow. Too bad we’re wasting ourselves on so much reciprocal racism, hatred, and murderousness, or we might have still been able to influence them to better choices as their brothers, instead of what we prefer to make ourselves after provocations great and small: their bitter, sworn enemies.

Little do we know, God raises up conquerors and destroyers as divine guillotines, lifting up scourges on his own, inciting the wicked to rage against the less wicked as chastisement, to show us our nothingness, to entice us civilised to cleanse our own blackened hearts and open our minds to a greater reality than self-worship. But we miss the cue, cursing God along with his scourges, wishing only death right back upon them. We create our own destruction by listening to the devils in our minds encouraging such violence.

In the long run, this planet and its pyramids are toast anyway. In our short lives here, the key we hold into eternity is called…

…Forgiveness. Hear, if you have ears.

  • It seems that it is Not true
“Calls from a Bahraini Sunni cleric to destroy Egypt’s Great Pyramids have been revealed as a hoax. The demands were made from a Twitter account which claimed to be owned by Bahrain’s President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud. ”

  • This article is a very annoying and writer is not fare is showing the different views.

My self, not in support of El Nour party and not member of the Muslim brotherhood and my choice for Moursy was a compramize choice, other words I couldn’t tolerate having a hi official from Mubarak regime as a president . But on the other hand, I do respect the Muslim brotherhood much for their role in supporting the revolution and for their rule as a strong opposition for Mubarrk when he has a great power, when they suffered of arrest, jail and their wealth being confiscated.

Its very interesting, that my self as an Egyptian Muslim living in Egypt, working in tourism, practicing Islam and was part of the revolution, and knowing lots of people represent different religious and political views among them are Salafi and Muslim brotherhood, and never heard about their intention for covering or destroying Ancient Egyptian heritage. If they really want to do so, I will know for sure. For sure very few of them has these crazy ideas, but its not discuses among them and never acknowledged these ideas. They instead organized for tours for leading members of the Muslim brotherhood and El Nour Salaffi party for historical attractions, such as Giza Pyramids.

Islam is in respect of civilizations, and other cultures heritage. The great number of Church and Monasteries survived and flourished in Egypt in the last 1300 years is the best proof for that.

When Mohamed ordered the Idols around the Kaaba in Maca to be destroyed, it was because Kaaba was a holy ground for the worship of God since Adam and Abraham, and erecting idols their was against the tradition and the purpose of erecting Kaaba. So it was a religious site overtaken by the idol worshipers and Mohamed decided to put it back to its original conditions, which completely different than temples and pyramids in Egypt.

Its funny to believe in the Ancient Library of Alexandria is destroyed by the Muslims in the 7th century, when Islam came with the message of learning and researching and no wonder after 70 years of adapting Islam, the most uncivilized people on earth, became the most civilized, educated, organized, and most powerful. The knowledge of Muslim schoolrs enlighten the world back in time and was the foundation of many science benefit the world today.
Its funny, that most of the western historians acknowledged the story of infamous Arab historian from the 11th century about how the Muslims destroyed the Ancient library of Alexandria 400 years before his visit, and neglecting completely tens of other documented history and testimonials of famous historian how are even from western background and they were around when the library disappeared by the 5th century, 200 years before the Muslims made it to Egypt.
The Ancient library of Alexandria was the 1st visited place for any historian or travelers visiting Egypt and they always talk about it 1st before describing any other thing they’ve seen in Egypt. Is’t a coincidence, that no single historian mentioned any thing about the Library from the 5th century, simply because it was’t exist when they visited Egypt.

I’m Muslim and practicing Islam, and if you see me as a good person, that’s because I put Islam in practice.

Egypt in a critical time now, and the previous regime, their strong media, secret police and any body used to get benefits under this corrupted regime will not leave Egyptian to enjoy freedom and democracy. Their most owful weapon are rumors and spreading lies.
