Mitt Romney got a grim warning from the Australian foreign minister during a meeting on Sunday.
The Blaze reported:
The Australian foreign minister has privately warned Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney that foreign leaders see “America in decline.”
That’s according to Romney, who says he met with Foreign Minister Bob Carr in a San Francisco hotel Sunday evening shortly before a Republican fundraiser.
Romney says Carr suggested that America could improve that international perception “with one budget deal” that helps balance the budget.
A Romney spokesman says the foreign minister requested the private meeting.
The news likely comes as quite an embarrassment for supporters of President Obama. Not only has the president apparently managed an America “in decline,” but one of his campaign platforms was restoring America’s image to the rest of the world after eight years of George W. Bush.
In fact, on January 19th he said his administration had already accomplished the goal.
“What we were also able to do, I think, is to restore a sense of America as the sole, indispensable power,” the president said, “a country that, whether it’s responding to an earthquake or a tsunami, or it’s dealing with a dictator that is about to ruthlessly butcher his people, we aren’t out there alone.”
Carr said in a statement on Monday that his exact comment to Mr Romney was: “America is just one budget deal away from ending all talk of America being in decline.”

I think that when Obama said we were leading form behind from now on, he accomplished his goal.

When I get truly depressed and frightened I remember my country tore itself apart in a civil war, we survived numerous financial depressions, the dust bowl, health epidemics, world wars and our people fought back, survived and prospered.
Then I think about the voters of this country throwing out of office the incompetent carter and, years later, electing a man who essentially ran on what got carter booted, and I’m back in fear mode.

Did he at least acknowledge that THE PARTY IN POWER has not offered a budget in three years?

This quote is about Obama. The world relies on the US to gauge their economy to a large extent as we gauge what’s going on around the world to understand what’s ahead for us.
The Obama administration is incompetent in many ways but none more than economically. They have not passed a budget for his entire term. They passed the most oppressive over-haul of our healthcare system though.
It’s simple. Of all the wrong-headed policies and “executive” orders Obama has shoved at us, two things slow us down more than anything else.
Pass a (balanced) budget and repeal Obamacare. That will start the wheels of the train rolling again.

The key words in obamas statement were “we are not out there alone” , Another phrase he is fond of when criticizing free enterprise capitalism of exploiting workers is “you are on your own”. Paraphrasing Marxist doctrine is in most of his so called speeches. Collectivism is his answer to every thing. Even other socialists are upset with him for giving socialism such a bad reputation with his high profile failures. How can they sell that can of worms with our countries economic distress in the headline news every day.

That doesn’t even make sense. Not the first time I’ve heard Obama contradict himself in the same breath and he’s too irrational to realize it.

Obama won’t pass a budget, because he doesn’t want any restraints on his out-of-control spending.

Congress has put out it’s last budget unless Øbama is removed from office.
The current admin has not passed a budget, a Constitutional requirement – such lawlessness.
No one takes their oath & duty to the Constitution seriously. Lies & deceipt, corruption at all levels are destroying Amrica – Øbama’s life long dream come true.

He can’t be serious. With all of the Obie administration duplicity on display the past three years, who out there would actually change their perceptions based on appearances?
Moreover, arresting our decline is the least of Obie’s concerns.

You know, don’t you, that the Australian Foreign Ministry has stated that Romney’s account of the exchange is “not correct”? Carr’s point was that the Republicans need to stop obstructing the budget deal which is easily within reach.
So Romney is (1) a diplomatic booby and (2) an unpatriotic liar, who is trying falsely to put out the word that “America is in decline” in order to win the election.

@#17 and #18- I wouldn’t listen to Mr Carr as he hates America. He’s also part of the failed Gillard government. Within days of becoming foreign minister he’d insulted the East Timor government. He’s done nothing but shoot himself in the foot. I wouldn’t be surprised if Romney’s account is accurate and he’s changed his tune due to the fall out.
