Unreal… Obama Administration Is Pushing Food Stamps in Latest Ad Campaign: “They Make You Look Good”

It’s an Obama world.

The Obama Administration wants more people on food stamps.
A new ad campaign urges people to sign up, telling them, “They make you look good.”

Because one out of seven Americans on food stamps is not enough.
CNN Money reported, via FOX Nation:

More than one in seven Americans are on food stamps, but the federal government wants even more people to sign up for the safety net program.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has been running radio ads for the past four months encouraging those eligible to enroll. The campaign is targeted at the elderly, working poor, the unemployed and Hispanics.

The department is spending between $2.5 million and $3 million on paid spots, and free public service announcements are also airing. The campaign can be heard in California, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, and the New York metro area.

“Research has shown that many people — particularly underserved seniors, working poor, and legal immigrants — do not understand the requirements of the program,” said Kevin Concannon, a USDA under secretary.

The radio ads, which run through June 30, come amid a bitter partisan fight over the safety net program. Republican lawmakers want to reduce funding for the benefit or turn it into a block grant program, which would also minimize the cost. Democrats, however, are not willing to make major cuts.

Can we all agree now that Barack Obama really is the food stamp president?

In spite of record-setting Obama deficit spending on welfare, poverty meter hasn’t moved a bit
    http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2012/06/shock-in-spite-of-record-setting-obama.html

Why would that be? Could it be because Impoverished Americans are mostly 1) the aged
    2) entry-level workers?

If that’s true, government action will not affect the numbers. The aged will stay retired, and the young will grow out of it.

  • Allison

In a time where people and the gov’t are already struggling financially, is it right for more money to be spent? No…but while there are those who sincerely need assistance, abuse to the system cannot be overlooked. Alson what is needed is to trim to save money in the long run. I may not be a politician, but the less gov’t interference in our lives, the better, in my honest opinion.

I’m one of the working poor. I make around 18 thou a year, work two jobs, during the summer months one of those jobs really is not around since it is at a sporting arena and the NBA is not in season. I have been struggling for some time now but I refuse to take welfare or food stamps. I have pride and I will never force someone else to pay for my food or shelter.

  • ChicagoJenn

food stamps are like drugs, the more you get, the harder it is to get off of them. That’s the Democrats’ plan, get folks hooked, get the masses hooked on everything, food stamps, ‘free’ healthcare, free, free, free. Haven’t they done enough damage already? Just an aside, I was very surprised to walk my local farmer’s market (Gold Coast neighborhood, Chicago) a few weeks ago to see that the local farmers, crepe makers, and cheese artisans now take LINK!!! (Illinois’ food stamp program). Now those on food stamps can eat like Barry and Michelle. There’s just something so wrong about using food stamps to buy $18/lb specialty local goat cheese at a Gold Coast farmer’s market. Isn’t that tax payer money better spent buying a brick of Kraft cheddar cheese for $2.49 at the Jewel right across the street from the Farmer’s Market?

I recently used a smartphone and the Tune In Radio app to listen to a radio broadcast of a ballgame that was being broadcast from California. I could not believe how many commercials there were that sounded exactly like this! Stuff on the order of “Food stamps are great! Make sure to go get yours!” There were other liberal agenda ads as well, and all in all it was just plain revolting. That’s what the public is being bombarded with in areas of liberal control.

  • Patty

I do believe that it is unnecessary to be promoting Food Stamps. And the fact that this administration would encourage people to get on them is all part of the socialization of America.

Currently, individual income in the U.S. is taxed at a top rate of 35 percent while capital gains and dividends are taxed at a maximum rate of 15 percent. If Congress doesn’t act by the end of 2012, ordinary income and dividends will face a top tax rate of 39.6 percent and the capital gains rate would rise to 20 percent. Obama wants to set the top rate for capital gains and dividends at 20 percent and the top rate for ordinary income at 39.6 percent.

Yes, under Obama we have lost Millions of jobs and this is Obama fault. This food stamps program and dependence on Government will only discourage Americans more. In a few cases Americans will give up and be dependent on Obama and they will actually vote for Obama so I assume this must be his plan. What a real disgrace for a President.

  • Patty

Because of this tax and spend administration more businesses have let American and this reflects of him. Yet, Obama won’t admit that his ideas have failed but I do believe this is falling right into his plans.

    America, let vote him out!!

  • Doug T.

One more thing: Those race-baiters on the other side owe Newt Gingrich an apology. He was right all along.

  • 66chevelle

Very classy, President Dole. Why don’t you change the name to “Kool Stamps”, since you’re blatantly shilling to older blacks? A private sector enterprise would be pilloried for pitching an insidious, addictive product like this to a targeted ethnic or racial group.

You must be painfully aware that many older blacks are not as enthused with your Preeziness as their fool children and grandchildren are. That’s why the “We’ve Got Your Back” ad sounds like a ’70’s Malt Liquor commercial.

  • RS

Unless you are dependent on the state, you are an enemy of the state.
    Welcome to Obama’s America.

  • 66chevelle

dwd, you’ve probably noticed an increase in shilling for flood insurance, too. You may. Be living in a flood plain and not even know it, buybuybuy that flood insurance just to be safe!

There is a full-court press to make us subsidize others’ laziness and bad decisions.

Let me be clear, I endorse bigger and more invasive government. Once, the sheeple get hook on food stamps or debit cards then I can intimidate them into voting for me. It’s that simple.

Go ahead and get on food stamps. We will know where you live and where to send the pre-filled in absentee ballots… or we will just mail them to your polling place ourselves.

My Limousine is spewing fumes and David Axelrod has another scam to test. I cannot say any more. And, no I will not be granting anymore 0bamacare waivers. Those are for my top donors. Good day.

people are funny……the idea of something for nothing can bring out the worst in human nature. i know people who will tell you [with a straight face] that they would prefer to take “any” job rather than be on aid but turn around and reject “any” job because it interfers with the benefits they’re receiving. even the slightess change would bring out their true intent.

Recently went into my local grocery store.. In the line ahead of me was a young hispanic who could barely speak english.. He was adorned with a heavy gold chain around his neck with a large gold coin at its end.. He also wore a heavy gold bracelet and diamond earrings.. The suit he wore looked to have costed 1,000 dollars.. He had two carts.. The first filled with formula, baby food, cereal, juices, etc.. He paid for these items using WIC.. The next cart was filled with steak, lobster, soda, candy, etc.. He paid for these with a SNAP (food stamp) card..

  • Greg

Very often, persons ahead of me in the grocery line will split their purchases to buy stamp allowed foods, and non stamp allowed foods such as cigarettes, wine and fishing gear. The government is not subsidizing a healthy diet, it is just spreading the wealth

  • Sasja

Just for fun I looked into whether I would be eligible for food stamps. I was! After speaking with the gentleman for a few minutes, I told him I was not interested in becoming dependent on the taxpayers. He actually said, “Thank you.”

The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward (1926–2001) and Frances Fox Piven (b. 1932) that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of “a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty”.

There would also be side consequences of this strategy, according to Cloward and Piven. These would include: easing the plight of the poor in the short-term (through their participation in the welfare system); shoring up support for the national Democratic Party then-splintered by pluralist interests (through its cultivation of poor and minority constituencies by implementing a national solution to poverty); and relieving local governments of the financially and politically onerous burdens of public welfare (through a national solution to poverty).

The alternate reality of the Marxist welfare state is all he has left – there is no upside to anything that Barry has touched. It is now time to take up the task of insuring there is no second term. Our country cannot put up with another 4 years of this crap.

  • A_Nonny_Mouse

According to Cloward-Piven theory, the Progressives *HAVE TO* break the system financially in order to destabilize it enough to take over.

May everyone –I mean EVERYONE!– in this Godforsaken administration rot in hell. (And SOON.)

  • Cactus

    @#9 Chicago Jenn –

In my prepping for the class I teach, I read an article about a similar program here in Alabama. The idea, according to the article, is to make healthier food like fresh fruit and vegetables available to more people to combat obesity and to boost the small farms’ sales (since it claimed that people came back and bought more even after they ran out of “coupons”). I actually don’t have a problem with that – but I didn’t know they had stuff like artisan cheese at farmers’ markets now! I guess I should visit one sometime.

That is absolutely pathetic. This country is f****d.

I didn’t realize that all those fat-assed Section VIII subprimers were so healthy. I thought parasitism had contributed to their obesity as it had to their laziness.

I bet we’re going to start seeing an epidemic of obese undergrads at Ivy-League schools. In Obama’s America, even spoiled rich punks get to play wigger.

This is Obama’s goal. He wants an entire country of dependents. Unlike other presidents who want to lead, all he wants is to control. The more people he has on welfare, section 8, food stamps, with governmental jobs and under Obamacare, the better. The more laws and regulation he passes on business, the better. It doesn’t matter if it hurts the economy or the middle class. As long as he is able to get his grubby, nicotine-tarnished fingers in more of our lives he is happy. And the irony is, the media will back him up the whole time. His word is gospel and all those who disagree with him with be called racist, elitist or uninformed.
Where will the insanity end? The longer he is in office the worse shape our country becomes. In law school did he not learn anything or was he just too high to remember what went on in class? The American government is made up of 3 equal, yet separate, branches. Well, I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he may have missed a few classes but obviously that is not the case. Recently, he has mandated unilaterally our new immigration policy and also berated the Supreme Court for their role in constitutionally reviewing the Affordable Care Act. Does he not know that’s exactly their job or simply does not care?
The answer is that he believes he is above the law and in fact, is the law. After the Supreme Court made a ruling in favor of Arizona, his administration took away all ability for them to enforce it. Plus, they made a hotline (again using taxpayer dollars) for any Hispanic to call if they feel they are being profiled by the police. I don’t know about you, but that’s a complete slap in the face to state’s rights and a real kick in the rear to all the police out their trying to do their jobs. It’s like all of a sudden Arizona’s governor, police and legal citizens mean nothing to the president. It makes becoming an illegal immigrant not only attractive but lawful- plus it makes it makes it seem that it’s their right now to be in America. Who are we to say otherwise?
Things have definitely got out of control under Obama. Only under his presidency does doing the right things in life like Governor Brewer make you a bad person. Only under him does making an honest living make you a greedy capitalist. Only under Obama is blaming former President Bush for everything wrong in America the right thing to do.
Well, I can tell everyone that I’ve had enough of this insanity. It’s time for America to once again take responsibly, balance the federal budget, create a real plan for our future and ensure the next generation will have it better than this one. No more Obama- NoBama!

  • http://stephenmartino.blogspot.com/ Tired American

I’d like to comment on Vice President Biden’s previous nonsensical rant because it agin fits into his insanity:

“When we took office, let me remind you, there was virtually no international pressure on Iran. We were the problem. We were diplomatically isolated in the world, in the region, in Europe. We were neither fully respected by our friends nor feared by our opponents. Today is it starkly, starkly different.”

First of all, his statements are incorrect. Under President Bush we did have an effective coalition of countries. Though the media downplayed their roles significantly, we have gotten support world-wide, and soldiers not only from America but also these countries perished in the battle against terror. Vice President Biden belittles all these countries’ support and effectively spits on the grave of their brave soldiers who lost their lives in the fight.

I came across the casualty list as of 2006 in our coalition fight against terror: Britain, 119; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 17; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, 6; Slovakia, 3; El Salvador, 3; ; Thailand, 2; Estonia, 2; The Netherlands, 2; Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, and Latvia, 1 each.

Has the Vice President forsaken these men and woman? Obviously, their commitment in the Middle East has been meaningless to him and most probably to the whole Obama administration.

Also, I find the thought that we were not feared by our opponents under the Bush administration completely wrong. Say what you will about our former president but one thing you can’t say was that he was weak with the military. On the contrary, when Bush was in power countries were definitely on alert and knew a patriot missile could be headed there way at any minute.

In contrast to Bush, let’s look at Obama. After a world-wide apology tour, cutting military expenditures and wanting terrorist combatants to have a trial in civilian court, Obama has made the United States the laughing stock of the world. Not only do countries like Iran not fear us but instead they are emboldened by our complacency. He sits back and talks to Iran while they bring their nuclear capabilities underground where they can’t be attacked. He watches patiently as the Muslim Brotherhood take over Egypt. He kindly asked Iran to please give our drone back instead of selling it to China. He pleaded with Israel to go back to its 1967 borders which cannot be defended.

The facts are clear Mr. Biden. The world no longer fears us. As the terrorists and terror-supporting countries watch as our president cuts our military and stands idly by during these troubled times, they are just waiting patiently for the right opportunity to strike. It may not be today but when Obama has weakened our country militarily and financially to the point of impotence, they will be waiting- and prepared.

Do you know we spent $1.4 trillion on the war against Iraq? Do you know that if we spent $1 per second (or over $83,000/day), it would take us over 37,000 years to spend $1 trillion? That would take us back to the days of the saber tooth tiger. Do the math. Now, for a few hundred million (a million is 1/100,000th of a trillion) we can feed all the poor in our country with food stamps. Do you know that if we spent 1/2 the money we spent on the Iraq war on social causes, we could provide sufficient food, water, housing, and basic education to every person on the planet for the same period? Do you think we would be threatened by terrorists then? Where’s your priorities? What would Christ do?

The Tom Daschle philosophy of screwing over Americans so the Democratic party can win is alive and well, and being followed by Obama Campaign Co-Chair Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL)

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/06/26/Party-First-Obama-Campaign-Co-Chair-Says-Democrats-Should-Not-Compromise-On-Grand-Bargain-Debt-Deal-With-Republicans

The good people of Illinois should do to this squalid politician the same thing the good people of South Dakota did to the disloyal Tom Daschle. Fire her.

To re-cap, Tom Daschle D-SD, former Senate Majority Leader, agreed that it was necessary to invade Iraq, and then decided to “ride Iraq to the White House” by undermining President Bush at every turn. He was subsequently turned out of office by the people of his some state.

I was a yellow-dog, pull-the-lever Democrat in most elections, until I watched that unmitigated bastard in action. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) is no better, with the sole exception that she does not yet have American soldiers’ blood on her hands. I hope the good people of Illionois keep it that way.

Food stamps go largely to the working poor and their families. Many people don’t know they are eligible, or want to avoid the stigma of dependency that others place on people who get food stamps. If employers paid living wages, and if demand were sufficient to drive down unemployment, we wouldn’t need food stamps. http://myfoodstamps.org/pdf_files/wkgpoor06.pdf

Fraud is on the order of 1 percent. In 2009, about $5 million in fraudulent claims were confirmed. How much tax evasion by the affluent and wealthy was there?

Rand Paul has said the American people would be flabbergasted to learn how much is spent on food stamps. They might also be flabbergasted to learn that how many people need food stamps, and how much more would be spent if all those eligible for receiving food stamps were enrolled in the program. They might also be flabbergasted to learn that most adult food stamp recipients are workers. I remain puzzled by why some people are outraged by the expenditure and the (minimal) fraud, but not by the fact that without the program, millions would go hungry.
