Good news.
House Republicans approved two amendments to the 2013 spending bill that would prohibit the government from enforcing the ridiculous light bulb standards.
The Hill reported:

The House approved two amendments to a 2013 spending bill late Tuesday night that would prohibit the government from enforcing federal light bulb standards that Republicans say are too intrusive.

In a voice vote, the House approved an amendment to the Energy and Water spending bill for 2013 that would prevent the Department of Energy from spending money to enforce a 2007 law that sets bulb efficiency standards. The law bans the sale of 100 watt incandescent bulbs and will ban the sale of 75 watt traditional bulbs in July 2013.

This year, like last year, the amendment was sponsored by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), who said the federal government should not be in the business of requiring certain light bulbs to be used.

“We shouldn’t be making these decisions for the American people,” Burgess said on the House floor. Burgess added that his amendment was approved last year and signed into law by President Obama, after which the House quickly passed his amendment again.

  1. Now, if they would just vote against enforcing some of the more recent EPA regulations!

  2. …and will ban the sale of 75 watt traditional bulbs in July 2013.

    Enough already.

  3. I believe this nation is so screwed up. First, ban, then no ban, then we all horde the old bulbs.

Some light bulbs of the past are made in Mexico. They are C#@p!

I am certainly not going to put a broken light bulb, the new generation bulb, in a plastic bag, PLASTIC that too isn’t politically correct, and then Call HAZMAT.

I am serious, we are becoming a nation of unrest, literally, we are tired, we work and then we are told to read the regulations in the event a bulb is broken. Children lets say break a bulb, will they need to be scrubbed down before bedtime. We work on the job and now, more work at home because of these D bulbs.

  4. Too bad it takes current Republicans, TEA Party inspired Republicans, to block what some idiot Republicans earlier approved when they helped enact this light bulb ban in previous Congress sessions.

  5. Here is the problem. WE ARE BEING REGULATED TO DEATH. Nothing is being done to get to the real core of our problems. Financial, Homes, Jobs, National Security, ECONOMY.

The waste that has ballooned in this administration. WASHINGTON JUST CAN’T LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE.

The putter around on stupid things and the serious things, nothing is accomplished.

    Just pathetic.

It Has Always Been The Soldier

    It is the soldier,
not the President who gives US Democracy.

    It is the soldier,
not the Congress who takes Care of US.

    It is the soldier,
not the Reporter who has given us Freedom of Press.

    It is the soldier,
not the Poet who has given us Freedom of Speech.

    It is the soldier,
not the campus [community] Organizer who
has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

    It is the soldier,
    who salutes the flag;
    who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
that allows the protester to burn the flag.

God Bless Soldiers everywhere for putting THEIR
lives on the line to protect us ALL from terrorism!

  7. OUr regulations shut down every light bulb plant in the country. Another domestic industry destroyed by regulation. Ohio gets 85% of all electricity from coal. The new coal regs will shutter 30% of the 85 %. Next step is to actually turn the lights out, regardless of what bulb they are. House is voting to suspend the EPA coalmageddon from happening. Find out where your Senator stands.

  8. Instead of dreaming up new stupid laws and regulations to pass so they look busy, we need to demand the next congress spend most of its time undoing the damage. Start with Presidential orders and appointments since 2008.

  9. …we need to demand the next congress spend most of its time undoing the damage.

I’m all for investigating the most flagrant abuses and if anything untoward is uncovered, prosecuting the appropriate Obie administration officials.

  10. About time. I’m running low on my incandescents.

  11. Fred Upton, RINO, and Chairman of Energy and Commerce was the co-sponsor of the original bill that banned them in the first place. He should be voted out of office and at least not be given an leadership position. We need a new Speaker.

  12. Terrific. Hopefully Boehner will get some steel in his spine and drag Holder’s ass in to account for this fast and furious coverup. Nah. I’ve got him mixed up with Gov. Walker.

  13. They only want to ban the light bulbs because they’re all out of bright idea.
    :P

  14. the problem is we have all these people in government whose job it is to make regulations. they have to do something to justify their job. they can’t outlaw murder or rape or anything like that so they have to expand into new areas. we need to get these people to REPEAL old useless regulations and laws instead of making new ones.

every third or fouth session of congress should be devoted to repealing laws and regulations before they can pass any new ones.

  15. I think a good part of ther problem is that Congress decided years ago to make themselves full-time federal empoyees. Once they did that, they looked around and realized they had all the time in the world to tinker with laws and “fix things.” As a result, they meddle in everything, and create solutions for non-existent problems. Congress needs to once again become a part-time position where when they meet, they deal with important things (as was the Founding Fathers’ intentions) and leave everything else to state and local governments. Better still, JUST LEAVE US ALONE!!!

  16. They should have done this before the 100w bulb was banned–plants have closed/been re-tooled so that the 100w bulb will not make a comeback–it’s gone forever because these idiots in DC waited tooooooo long! No company is going to re-open a shuttered plant; reconfigure their machinery to re-instate the 100w bulb–the dim bulbs are the folks in DC–throw all their @$$’s out of office!

  17. Congress, so brave! ALWAYS too little, too late. Wimps.

  18. I commend Rep Burgess on his light bulb stand. Now if we could get all of these politicians to read the Constitution of the United States, they would find that they don’t have any business in a lot of things that they have poked their noses in. For the most part, politicians don’t like the Constitution because it limits their power and duties.
