More Hope and Change… Obama EPA Officials Visit Man at Home For Inquisitive Email

He wrote an email asking how to contact an EPA official. Now he must pay.

A North Carolina man named Larry Keller recently got a visit from Obama EPA officials at his home. His crime? He sent an email asking how to contact one of their employees.
PohDiaries reported:

About a month ago, EPA regional official Al Armendariz made news when a YouTube video of him describing the way the agency handles oil and gas companies surfaced. In it, Armendariz said an analogy he liked to use about enforcement was how the Romans used crucifixion to keep smaller towns and villages under their thumb. Since then, Armendariz has resigned his post at the EPA. Case closed, right? Wrong.

A local North Carolina man named Larry Keller didn’t particularly like the analogy that Al Armendariz used, so, along with thousands of others assumably, he set about to contact Mr. Armendariz to discuss his views on the oil and gas industries. One of our basic rights and privileges in a free society is to be able to petition our government for a redress of grievances without fear of repercussion from said government simply for voicing our grievance.

Keller proceeded to try and contact Mr. Armendariz by Googling him. His domain was a subset of Southern Methodist University, he was directed to contact a Dr. David Gray who is the Director of External Affairs for the EPA. Keller wrote a simple, one sentence email to Dr. Gray which said simply, “Hello Mr. Gray-Do you have Mr. Armendariz’s contact information so we can say hello?”

On May 2nd, just a little over a week after the Armendariz crucify comments had flared up, two special agents from the EPA and a local police officer showed up at Mr. Keller’s home. Here is the story in his own words:

On Wednesday, May 02, 2012 at about 1:45PM two Special Agents from the EPA and an armed police officer who stood 6’6” tall visited our house in Asheville, NC. Their visit was a total surprise as we had not received any communications requesting an appointment. The agents presented very official looking badges and asked if we could sit and chat awhile. We moved to the back porch and took our seats with the exception of the armed officer who stood by the door to the house the entire time.

And here is Larry’s interview on the Pete Kaliner Show.

    That is so I can fight my way to the long gun.

    “The Bill of Rights was not part of the document signed at the convention in Philadelphia in 1787. The delegates believed that political freedoms were basic human rights. So, some said it was not necessary to express such rights in a Constitution.”

    Luckily for us, we knew common sense wasn’t a currency the government would spend wisely. Therefore,four years later we put down those guaranteed rights in writing and fight the courts and our government everyday for each and every one of them.First among them is the Freedom of Speech,followed then by the second amendment, inserted into the Bill of Rights to guarantee that we can keep that freedom.

    “In no particular order, early American settlers viewed the right to arms and/or the right to bear arms and/or state militias as important for one or more of these purposes:

    * deterring tyrannical government;
    * repelling invasion;
    * suppressing insurrection;
    * facilitating a natural right of self-defense;
    * participating in law enforcement;
    * enabling the people to organize a militia system.”

    Only history books can make a distinction between sociopath and patriot. In the meanwhile,this country still isn’t Obama’s America just yet.

    Thoughtcrime must be stamped out. This case is simply the Thinkpol (thought police) doing their duty for the State. Thoughtcrime is death. Obedience to the State is everything.

  • MAJ Mike

    #2 — Me, too. Also, I would not have spoken to them anywhere but in my front yard in full view of my neighbors. No EPA mall cops in my house.

    Dern, its easier getting the address of Trevor Martin than it is of An EPA District Official. If I were a union official, could I get the address of the Koch brothers or BofA president for home visitation. Someone check with the black panthers/holder office of righteous justice

    A bit of advice to my fellow Americans and TEA party Patriots. .

    If federal government officials show up at your house unexpectedly, especially EPA, and have a firearms. . call your friend, neighbor to come and bring others too. . .Make it a BIG Town Hall event as I am sure other Americans would be interested too

    But first make sure they call the local Police and TV station, especially Fox affiliate.

    And if you have a lawyer, have him come too.

    then get your I-phone or video and let agents know you will be recording the whole event. . . though they will object, but it is your right, your home, and your property.

    UNITED we stand. . .

  • BlackBush

    Yes! I wish they came to my door! Hello…..

  • NoBama2012

    EPA needs some extreme downsizing…so does Energy, Education, and about 10 others.

  • RKflorida

    The answer to the question “can we sit down and chat?” is always NO. Call your attorney and tell them to contact him for any questions they may have. NEVER chat with enforcement personnel it can only benefit them and hurt you.

  • KatB

    Wow, this is seriously scary. The EPA= The Stasi?

  • donh

    Yes #18…If they have this much man power to send people to your door over a frivolous email , it shows how much excess personnel there is to cut. Plus they have already chased a lot of the factories out of this country so they must turn to harassing the individual citizen to justify the paycheck drawn from your own blood. Otherwise they just sit at a desk counting paperclips which begs for termination.

  • Jerry C

    @ #19 Unreal-“so you of all people should acknowledge that this guy wanting “to say hello” was a threat.”

    Seriously? You’re Unreal. Good name for you. Shall I say goodbye or in your world does that constitute a threat too?!

  • From my website:

    From the post-

    …Now it should be known that it is better than fifty-fifty that local cop didn’t want to be there at all. The feds “requesting local assistance” is not uncommon and local departments always assist. (Why piss off the big bosses, right?) But that DOES NOT MEAN they like it, not one bit. In fact, a number of times I was involved, my supervisor would roll his eyes and say, “Go help them, but keep and eye on them so they don’t screw something up.” The horrible secret kept by the Feds is this; They aren’t that good. They are no better, and often worse, than your local officers and detectives.

    What they have is the overwhelming “grinding into dust” capability of the government behind them. And they can grind. There are no longer any options available to the average citizen to stop a misguided investigation or deflect the focused attention by an agent or agency or administration. They have no self restraint and there is nothing above them to keep them from abusing us. Even Congress if finding itself stonewalled. We do not have to go any further than the “Fast and Furious” investigation. In a real world (GWB’s world to let you know how recently in the past we did have some say) Holder would have been run off long ago if not charged with obstruction of Congress. But as long as Obama runs the show and his “ends justify the means” mantra is in control, we’ll see more and more issues come forth like this.

    And while the attitude is increasingly aggressive, we see that they want to arm it as well. Oh, joy! ….

  • mg4us

    #22 Donh So right about bloated bureaucracy. . .

    but another little secret is that these fed “enforcement” folks need to bust someone to get promoted. . that’s how they “prove” their worth to their superiors. . .

    All the fed folks looking to have the moment of fame & glory so they get the credit. . .

    This is why we need limited government. .
    our forefathers knew this and understood:
    Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!!

  • donh

    Yes that cop didn’t want to be there…but if Mr Keller had lost his temper , a team of men in black with their bullet proof vests and night vision goggles, helmets and scope rifles would be there in no time . It is not much farther down the road when these government thugs start helping themselves to whatever they want in your own home..including that hot looking wife you got there.

  • Rob Crawford

    That was a veiled threat in that message and you know it.

    Asking for contact information for a public official is a “veiled threat”?

    In your world, are reporters routinely arrested and tried for stalking because they attempt to contact people to comment on stories?

  • usamopatriot

    Damn straight.

  • Blue Hen

    That was a veiled threat in that message and you know it.

    Actually ,no. Indeed, no one by definition can “know”. That asserts that you have proof; that your assertion is a fact that can be supported. But you don’t have that. You at best have, conjecture, based upon prior experience with others writing about government oficials. What you most likely have is a wild ass guess.

    I hope this clarification helps.

  • dba…vagabond trader

    First thing I would’ve asked, you have a warrant? No, then you are not welcome on my property.

  • StrangernFiction

    The answer to the question “can we sit down and chat?” is always NO.

    I prefer HELL NO, but a simple no will work as well.

    When the EPA thugs show up, just tell them the story about eating the census taker’s liver, with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

    Seriously, though, good advice from RK to simply, politely, and firmly say NO to an interview. The EPA had no legal authority to compel any sort of conversation. The most the man should have done was to offer to sit down with the EPA goons later, with his lawyer present, and with video cameras running.

    It’s a damned shame that we need to fear the government that works for us. Supposedly.

  • Dave F

    EPA has armed officers?????

  • JPhat

    Isn’t it just funny how every government agencies carry weapons now? Dept of Education, Food & Drug Administration, IRS and the EPA.

  • dunce

    They were there for one purpose, entrapment. Scooter Libbey and Martha Stewart went to prison for making false statements to federal officials. If any uninvited federal official questions you tell them you refuse to answer because you might incriminate yourself and that you might answer if you had your lawyer present. Had he not remembered sending that short email and denied sending it they could have arrested him on the spot.

  • aprilnovember811

    He needs to contact Senator Rand Paul’s office. He’s working to reign in the FDA also. These agencies really need to be shut down. As long as they remain open, there is the potential for this horrendous abuse. Just because agencies are started by a former president, isn’t a reason to keep them around. They are violating the tenth amendment in most cases. There’s no reason for a Federal Agency like the EPA or FDA to be preying on private citizens in states that have nothing to do with Federal Land. These governors better get their acts together and start standing up for their 10th amendment rights and protect their citizens. These agents need some buckshot in their behinds the next time they show up at someones private home.

    Sen. Rand Paul Introduces Amendment to Rein in FDA Abuse – 05/23/12

  • I am Larry Keller and kin to John Gault. I had no fear of our government nor do I presently. I want to be an agent of change by pressing forward with ideas and in so doing expose a federal agency for gross over-reach. We have to rid ourselves of this administration and the culture they espouse. I have never been a spectator in life and so I will carry this battle through every channel available. Thanks to all who are like-minded

  • Lil Obie

    #20 RKflorida
    I found out the hard way that what you say is true.
    NEVER talk to cops of any kind without a lawyer or
    more than 1 witness present.

  • Obie is right, and wrong. As a former detective I had no problem with someone claiming the fifth, unless the guy was being a d**k about it. If I had no reason to believe he was involved in anything and he acts like he is trying to hide something, just to be cute, and THAT gets my attention, I’ll spend resources on chasing that dead lead down instead of going in the right direction.

    However, if you did it, or it looks like you did it, then lawyer up. The days of people confessing because of guilt or remorse are over. Besides sometimes admitting to something is going to get you jammed up for a penalty far greater than the crime should demand. Especially if it has anything to do with race, or color, or gender or political correctness.

    If the cop is worth his/her salt, you get caught.
