#Occupy Midwest Protesters Deface 100 Year-Old St. Louis Memorial to Civil Rights Hero

The far left #Occupy Midwest movement held their regional rally in St. Louis this past weekend. Before they arrived for the “conference” local organizers promised the group would not disrupt the St. Louis community. They lied. On Thursday night the #occupiers opened their conference by clashing with police resulting in 14 arrests. On Saturday they crashed the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtowm St. Louis.
Then on Monday night #Occupy Midwest protesters vandalized the historic Compton Hills Reservoir Park in the city of St. Louis.
The protesters defaced about 100 yards of a stone wall in the park.
City crews were out Tuesday painting over the spray paint.
They also defaced an historic 100 year-old statue in the park.
The occupiers painted “class war” across the statue’s chest.
Here’s a close-up of the 100 year-old statue.
Grand Old Partisan discovered that the statue “Naked Truth” is a memorial to three German-American Republicans and civil rights heroes: Emil Preetorius, Carl Daenzer and Carl Schurz.
Carl Schurz was a civil rights hero. Co-founder of the Missouri Republican Party, he served as a Union Army general during the Civil War and as ambassador to Spain. He was sent on a fact-finding mission in the postwar South soon after the Confederacy collapsed, and his report shook the nation. Schurz recounting the horrors inflicted by Democrats on the emancipated slaves.
Don’t expect this to make any headlines.

When the union protestors took over our state Capitol last year in Wisconsin, they defaced statues and historic property. One of the best things Ann Althouse did (UW Law Professor/blogger) was capture the graffiti and even film her husband Meade cleaning things off statues and monuments.
Great post Jim. People who have an inch of Tea Party spirit in their bones should get out and clean that mess up or – if that’s not possible – broadcast the disrespect as widely and loudly as they can.

I lived and worked close to the Compton Hills Reservoir for a long time. It’s always been a nice bastion in an otherwise crappy area, only now beginning to come back after years of crime and decadence.
It’s about time real force comes to bear on these verminous thugs. I’m not advocating violence per se, but we are well past time that these thugs are due to get what is known as street justice.

I have a message for the occupiers: you don’t have to live in America.
Occupiers are anarchists. As such they garner no respect; 99 percent of Americans would be happy if they left for Canada.
Occupiers know that they will never be able to do away with capitalism because of the way in which it has successfully brought one quarter of the world’s population out of poverty in the last generation alone. They must know that they are fighting a losing battle.

Mr. Simmons, the problem with your intended rebuttal is that crimes committed by Tea Party members, or even “former” Tea Party members, are incredibly rare while crimes committed by the SEIU/Soros funded Adbusters Occupy movement members are all too disgustingly common.
In fact, I predict a plague of Occupy and union led violence this summer. I also predict zero, or very nearly so, violence committed by Tea Party members. Care to place a wager?
