It’s an Obama world…
The US Catholic Bishops cried foul this week noting that certain religious groups in America are exempt from Obamacare provisions but not others.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Blog reported:

The Amish are exempt from the entire health care reform law. So are members of Medi-Share, a program of Christian Care Ministry. Yet, when the Catholic Church asks for a religious exemption from just one regulation issued under the law – the mandate that all employers, including religious institutions, must pay for sterilization and contraceptives, including abortion-inducing drugs – the Administration balks.

The government respects the First Amendment that guarantees the right to freely exercise one’s religious beliefs, but only to a point. In the health care law it picks and chooses which beliefs it respects. The Amish do not believe in insurance, and the government understands. Christian Care Ministry believes people should form a religious community and pay medical bills for one another, and the government says okay. Yet when the Catholic Church opposes being forced to pay for services that violate its beliefs, the Administration says “tough.”

What is so special about this mandate that it cannot be touched? It was added after Congress passed the health care law and offers no exemption for religious charitable or educational institutions. It will not accept Catholic charities and schools as “religious enough” unless they hire only Catholics, serve only Catholics, have the narrow tax exempt status granted to houses of worship, and teach religion as their purpose.

Amazingly, this mandate has more force than the overall health care law. In fact recent regulations allow states to decide which “essential health benefits” to require in health plans, such as hospitalization, prescription drugs and pediatric services. At the same time, all insurance plans must include the objectionable services mentioned above. Here federal law trumps state law and threatens to fine into submission institutions that dare oppose it. The going rate is at least $100 per day per employee.

What has the government got against the Catholic Church? Has it forgotten the contributions the church has made to the poor and needy for centuries?

  1. I’m a Reformed Amish. Have been since they passed the healthcare bill.

  2. and why should ObamaCare only apply to religious institutions? What about all the Mom and Pop businesses out there that also have a religious objection to providing contraceptives and abortion pills? Does the US Constitution only apply to institutions? Phfffft – here I thought it applied to individuals.

  3. Don’t worry. It will hit the Amish and others as well. Right now, they get a pass. If Bammycare is allowed to stand, it will only be a matter of time before every religious institution is subject to his highness’s whims.

  4. This whole thing is orchestrated to push Catholics out of health care. Obamists hooe the church will close hospitals (like they closed adoption centers). This gives the obots full control over facilities where they can kill babies, sick, elderly, and other undesirable or expensive “patients” under the guise of “care”. Mengele reborn.

  5. Congress is also exempt from the laws they pass.

  6. Almost all of the hospitals in Austin, Texas are owned by the Catholic Church, either through the St. David’s Medical Centers or Seton Medical Centers. Even Breckenridge Hospital, the once city owned charity hospital, has been sold to the Catholic Church as it was not profitable having Democrats running it.

So………….what do you suppose will happen when the Catholic Church says “Well, we will just shut down all our Church owned hospitals, all our Church owned orpanages, all our Church owned nursing homes for seniors?” I can tell you; you are going to be without hospital access. Every trauma center in Austin will be shut down. Have an illness that needs to be treated in the hospital? Take a lottery number like they have to do in Canada. Suffer from macular degeneration but can still see out of one eye? Not covered, as in the U.K.

This administration wants to “transform” the United States into the Euroweenie socialist lite.

  7. “I think [Obama] is great.” — Matt Romney

  8. Catholics yet learned You lie down with dogs You get up with fleas. The Catholic vote is what ut Obysmal in the Whitte House.

  9. Saw that little comment from Matty boy. His dad must be proud. Made me wonder just what Mittens really thinks of Zero.

  10. OT. I happened upon this bit of info re Holder from Breitbart. It will not be earth-shattering to those of us who already know the enemy. If it has been linked at this site already; my apologies for not catching it.

    Excellent point!

    Indeed.

Also, I’m guessing here, but I’d not be surprised if Muslims were also exempt.

    And Marxist superfun rockband churches.

Basically, if your church’s philosophy is “It’s All Good!”, it’s probably exempt.

And Muslims? Because, you know, they’ll burn down your city and saw your head off.

So, they’re cool. Exemption? Sure. Okay. Just don’t kill us.

Of course Muslims are exempt from this travesty. Insurance is a form of gambling according to Muslims, as are loans. Islamic banking practices are gaining a very wide beachhead here in the US, with Sharia Law to follow.

  14. What has the government got against the Catholic Church? Has it forgotten the contributions the church has made to the poor and needy for centuries?

This administration doesn’t want competition for enslaving the masses.

The Catholic Church has a history of trying to cooperate with dictatorships, only to be suppressed when those in power no longer need the help to control the people.

  15. I deeply respect the Amish… these are GOOD people, and actually quite cheerful capitalists as well, if you’ve had any direct exposure

However, we Catholics deserve equal treatment on this issue… and on every other issue, per the US Constitution

  16. Without having first read the above comments, let me say that the government does NOT want the Catholic Church or others serving the poor or the needy in this country or any other. The current government wants the government to provide these services – guess this means they need to get rid of the Catholics and many others in America which is the greatest country in the world for providing relief to others in need. Just another one of big O’s and the Democrats take overs. Each step takes us closer to socialism/communism.

  17. Has it forgotten the contributions the church has made to the poor and needy for centuries?

Remember the pre/post Obama world? Centuries? What Centuries?

There is only one Obama and He is the past, present and future. The universe will stop to exist after Obama. The entire history of the planet can only point into one direction: the birth of Obama. He is The Wohn.

  18. I’m Catholic, but my attitude toward this development is that the upper echelon of the Catholic clergy should shut their traps and learn to like it, because before this, I am 99.9% sure they supported Obiecare lock, stock, and barrel.

What I would ask them is: Didn’t you guys read the fine print, or think things through? No? Well whose fault is that then?
