Unbelievable. White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that women deserve to have the Catholic Church pay for their contraceptives, abortion drugs and sterilizations.
CNS News reported:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday that American women “deserve” to have their employers buy them health insurance plans that cover sterlizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives, including those that cause abortions, with no fees or co-pay, even if the employer is a Catholic or Catholic organization that adheres to the church teaching that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortifacients are morally wrong and that Catholics cannot be involved in them.

“I understand that there have been objections and that some people disagree with us and we are going to work with institutions that have concerns here,” Carney told reporters. “But I think it’s important to note here that we believe these services are important and that American women deserve to have access to that kind of insurance coverage regardless of where they work.”

Carney said it was not a Constitutional rights issue.

The king has spoken.

They are saying that, without insurance, paw widdle people who just have to have sex can’t begin to afford and should have to pay for with their own money what the market will provide for a given price. They’re also saying that, due to government manipulation of the insurance industry, its markets and plans, people should not be able to purchase insurance on their own based on their personal needs. Competition between companies who could cater an insurance plan to an individual purchaser’s needs is never even considered in the mental midget mind of a liberal. Instead, we have to destroy the religious liberties of millions of people to achieve a single payer plan that will suck anyway.

Famous words – “the need to balance” “I would refer you to others” “we will work with religious groups to discuss their concerns” but “there is a need to balance this with the woman’s rights”. .. “The Catholic church receives funding from the government to the tune of $$$$ per year….” – Maybe they should just return the money and say to the government – take your money back – we don’t want it if it comes with such immoral strings attached. The social work that the church engages in and is at times subsidized by the government is not an excuse for the government to force churches to do things against their conscience. The administration has now crossed the line, and churches will have to decide on whether their programs that use government dollars continue or whether those programs are cancelled. What type of programs are the governments contributing to would be my next question. These should be scrutinized closely if they are women’s health, ment’s health, or just job programs or what have you..
    Anytime someone talks in such a convoluted manner you just know that what they are trying to explain away is 1) illegal 2) ill-thought out 3) probably offensive to 90% of americans and 4) morally reprehensible at every level.
    This is the straw that breaks Obama’s back.

    And one more thing. The Catholic church should know better than to accept government funding for anything. It comes back to bite you. If you belong to the Catholic church, and your offerings are going to be used to support women who want these services, you may wish to vote with your feet, and redirect your offerings elsewhere, out of the reach of Mr Obama and the Catholic church, and into projects where you may have more control. Try supporting a prolife clinic directly or an orphanage somewhere or progrrams for singles mothers with children directly, so that your offering dollar does not fall into nefarious hands. I would now simply not trust the Catholic Church at large to be able to manage any social spending.
    It’s not too late to take your stand people. Stand up for your principles. It’s all getting so complicated these days. Pray for your government. Pray for your leaders. God removes kings and set up kings. And if you agree that women should have access to contraceptives in her health care plan, then form a branch within the church that looks after these women specifically. There are women for whom having a baby is not advisable – these women need access to birth control services (high blood pressure risk, illness such as cancer, etc). But there are large segments of the population that can prevent pregnancy by abstinence (those who are unmarried), and that segment of the population who feels that sex before marriage is okay, should happily pay for that prevention themselves, after all, they have not another care in the world. If the church is forced into paying for these services, it’s time the church got out of the business of providing health insurance and back in the business of eternal insurance.
