Barack Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression.

The Unemployment rate dropped to 8.3% in January from 8.6%.
The AP reported:

The unemployment rate fell for the fifth straight month after a surge of January hiring, a promising shift in the nation’s outlook for job growth.

The Labor Department says employers added 243,000 jobs in January, the most in nine months. The unemployment rate dropped to 8.3 percent from 8.5 percent in December. That’s the lowest in nearly three years.

Employers have added an average of 201,000 jobs per month in the past three months. That’s 50,000 more jobs per month than the economy averaged in each month last year.

The January jobs report was filled with other encouraging data and revisions. Hiring was widespread across many high-paying industries. Pay increased. And the economy added 200,000 more jobs in 2011 than first thought.

12.8 million Americans remain unemployed.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported:

The unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage point in January to
8.3 percent; the rate has fallen by 0.8 point since August. (See table
A-1.) The number of unemployed persons declined to 12.8 million in
January. (See the note and tables B and C for information about annual
population adjustments to the household survey estimates.)

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men
(7.7 percent) and blacks (13.6 percent) declined in January. The
unemployment rates for adult women (7.7 percent), teenagers (23.2
percent), whites (7.4 percent), and Hispanics (10.5 percent) were
little changed. The jobless rate for Asians was 6.7 percent, not
seasonally adjusted. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)

In January, the number of job losers and persons who completed
temporary jobs fell to 7.3 million. The number of long-term unemployed
(those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was little changed at 5.5 million
and accounted for 42.9 percent of the unemployed.

It’s an Obama world. Its an Obama recovery.

Barack Obama is also the first US President to lose one million jobs during a “recovery” period.

UPDATE: Record 1.2 Million People Fall Out Of Labor Force In One Month

  1. Unemployment is actually 10.3%

  2. Bullsh*t statistics, it’s what’s for dinner!

(Since you can’t afford beef anymore…)

  3. Everyone who actually BELIEVES this number, raise your hand.

  4. Please correct this post – The labor dept page also clearly states how many workers out of work who are not being counted. Don’t be duped – unemployment remains at 14+%

  5. Does anyone else find it fishy that the numbers came in almost 100k higher than the estimate?

Either someone is playing games with the numbers or the estimators need to all be fired.

  6. 1.2 MILLION PEOPLE DROPPED OUT OF THE LABOR FORCE IN ONE MONTH!!!

  7. I heard overall it’s somewhere around 20%.

    I’m sticking with that number.

  8. @fyi: Here is the answer. When everyone who is looking for work drops out of the labor market, the unemployment rate will be 0%. All hail THE MESSIAH!

  9. Until next month they are quietly “adjusted”. The CBO chief believes them to be closer to 10%.

Always read the corrections and clarifications in a newspaper, track adjustment data, and always consider the source… if it comes from a politicians mouth- verify by reviewing the original source document TWICE/ once when originally released, and twice when it has (and it will) be amended.

  10. And while all the numbers and blah, blah, blah are swirling in your head… check your GUT and ask if you were better off before Obama’s policies or not.

  11. The seasonally unadjusted data from the govt report today says that 2,689,000 jobs were lost from Dec 2011 to Jan 2012 (see Table B-1. Employees on nonfarm payrolls by industry sector and selected industry detail).

  12. When i saw this most eggscellent news i was wondering how you trogs where gonna try spinning it. Hoft has once again outdone himself. 23 straight months of private sector job gains! Obamas reelection is pretty much sealed. Better stock up on diapers.

  13. Ha Ha!! They dropped the rate .3 percent because only 240,000 jobs added. They are in full reelect obama mode. They have no shame whatsoever.

  14. Oh Ron, really. Obama’s re-election is pretty much sealed? Some of us have a long list of things about this administration’s policies and practices that will factor into our voting preferences and it won’t just be the nebulus job numbers. My list of “issues” (culled daily from various sources) is every bit as long as the Health Care Affordable Act – which is saying something. I have categories of czar activities, policy issues, foreign affairs, contradictions by Obama, Biden, Carney, Gibbs et al, a special category for Eric Holder, EPA, NLRB, failed Fed investments , crony capitalism- all kinds of detail on the daily activities that aren’t covered in the press. When Obama stops pretending not to campaign and actually calls his activities what it is, my list will go out to a carefully crafted list of distributors with all the citations and documentation attached. I would put my data up against your dead voter and dog any day.

  15. What needs to be looked at is the employment participation rate. That rate was 63.7%, down from 64.2% in January, 2011, or down a half percent. Less people are participating in the employment rolls than a year ago. Also, 2,420,000 people have been dropped from the civilian labor force in the last year although the civilian labor force has only grown by 1,145,000.

These are bogus stats designed for reduce the number of people in the labor force in order to decrease the unemployment rate.

Reducing the number in the labor force by dropping those who have run out of unemployment benefits, it gives a false unemployment percentage. Those people still want jobs, they have just been dropped due to the expiration of their UE benefits.

  16. These lying sacks of $hit will have the unemployment down to nothing come November and dip$hits will continue to believe their mooslime messiah…very sick world we live in now

  17. The numbers are totally bogus, people! The Bureau of Labor Statistics is purposely lowering the labor force participation rate to make it APPEAR that the unemployment rate is going down. But what in fact is happening is that the percentage of the population no longer looking for work is SKYROCKETTING. From Zero Hedge:

“A month ago, we joked when we said that for Obama to get the unemployment rate to negative by election time, all he has to do is to crush the labor force participation rate to about 55%. Looks like the good folks at the BLS heard us: it appears that the people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million. No, that’s not a typo: 1.2 million people dropped out of the labor force in one month! So as the labor force increased from 153.9 million to 154.4 million, the non institutional population increased by 242.3 million meaning, those not in the labor force surged from 86.7 million to 87.9 million. Which means that the civilian labor force tumbled to a fresh 30 year low of 63.7% as the BLS is seriously planning on eliminating nearly half of the available labor pool from the unemployment calculation.”

Don’t be fooled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ lies. They’re just manipulating the data the way Obama wants them to.

  18. They can’t count me anymore. I took early retirement. Social security at age 62. Totally unexpected.

  19. Its a conspiracy! Get my tin foil!

    Ron commented:

I want some of what your smoking.

  21. I am sick and tired of the BLS’s BS reporting, as is everyone else – they know it is bogus, but many aren’t aware as to how and why, so I will explain how their bogus reporting works.

During the Clinton administration, the government decided to no longer consider the rate of eligible active participants within the job market – those with temporary and part-time work, those who had exhausted unemployment insurance, or those who had simply given up are not part of the equation. Since Obama took office, the rate of people in the job force has rapidly plummeted below the 30-year average to rates that haven’t been witnessed since Carter was in office(oh look! Something else they have in common).

    What does this mean?

So long as the number of people in the workforce continues to drop, the supposed unemployment rate will always decrease – If you were to overlay the Labor force participation rate, currently at 64%, with the bogus “reported” unemployment rate of 8.6%, it would allow the government to declare a ZERO PERCENT UNEMPLOYMENT RATE by the time the labor force participation rate drops below 48%.

    reference charts: http://patdollard.com/2012/01/actual-unemployment-rate-above-11/

If we were to adjust to a 30-year average, actual unemployment is at 11.3%

    How does this manipulation work?

Let us assume there are 100 people in the work force…

Let us also assume that there is an unemployment RATE of 10% per year…

After 1 year, the workforce would reduce to 90…a reduction of 10 people in the work force

    After 2 years: 90 minus 10% equals a workforce of 81 people – a reduction of 9 people…

    3rd year = 73 people – a reduction of 8 people…

    …and so on

This is the anti-intellectual means of bogus reporting that allows them to claim that net unemployment (not the unemployment RATE) is decreasing.

  22. Ron, the tin foil is on your head, man. No need to order us to get it for you… like so many other things in life you apparently expect.

  23. Ron (#20) commented:

Its a conspiracy! Get my tin foil!

Yours is the response of an unserious person, who puts partisanship and idiocy above facts. Others here have posted specific figures illustrating how the unemployment rate being reported by all news outlets is providing a grossly misleading picture, whether intentionally manipulated or not (as if that actually matters in the grand scheme of things considering the general long-term weakness of the economy), and you respond by posting your stupidity in posts #12 and 20.

Yes, things are economically better now than they were in the deepest, darkest days of the economic downturn that started in 2007-08, which is not saying much. But when we get a true unemployment rate above 15% and a labor participation rate not seen since the early 1980s, there is a serious problem, especially since most of those people no longer in the labor force are going to be relying on the government for their financial well-being, whether through government handouts or by starting to take money from Social Security before they wanted to. That is not a good situation for a country already buried in debt and continuous annual deficits of $1 trillion, whether a Republican or Democrat is President.

So, the only “spinning” here is by you, which you do by ignoring inconvenient facts and instead posting moronic comments one would expect from a child. I could really give a crap whether Obama gets the blame or credit for anything that happens economically, but I do care that the number of desperate people in our country continues to be at a level not seen for decades. Perhaps you should, too, instead of only being concerned with Obama’s reelection.

  24. Seems the under employment # has been vaporized by the govt much like the money investors trusted to Corzine and MF Global. Here’s some news for all of the leeches on the govt teat: we the people don’t want to pay for your sitting around all day watching soaps or your abortions or your health care. MF Global, seriously, would you give a company with that name your money.

  25. He deserves four more years!

There are 6,000,000 fewer jobs in America today than under President George W. Bush!

The average duration of unemployment in this country close to an all-time record high: think Great Depression!!

The number of Americans on food stamps increased by 3 million this year and by more than 14 million since George W. Bush was president!!!

The number of children living in poverty in America risen for four years in a row!!!

The percentage of Americans living in “extreme poverty” at an all-time high!!!

Give him four more years. He can’t do worse.

  26. What gets lost in this job creation, even a dumb Jackass would have more jobs created during their presidency because of population growth.

    132,409,000 million workers
    312,956,217 populations

    43% of the population works

    Jan 1, 2009 population 305,529,237

    7,000,000 more workers

43% of the 7m means there should be 3,010,000 more workers since Jan 1 2009. So, in reality, Obama has lost 4,000,000 jobs.

  27. I don’t care what you say: 2 + 2 is 5!

  28. Now, now, if you are going to sock-puppet a troll, you’ve got to drop hints as to your true nature. What’s the use of mocking them, otherwise?

  29. Record 1,200,000 win Lotto jackpots; drop out of labor force; no longer in unemployment rate calculation!

  30. hey RON….go fukkkkk yourself…how’s mommy’s basement doing for you…waiting for the mailman for your welfare check and foodstamps????? get a clue as to what this mooslime POS has done to AMERICA…you are a turd no matter how it flushes

  31. 1.2 million people that would rather have a job than food stamps, but they are not our real problem. Our real problem is the many millions that would not take a job when offered and vote for redistributionists, liars, frauds, democrats, and scum of the earth, but i repeat myself.

  32. 307 006 550 * (8.5%) = 26,095,556.8

    not 12.8M
    numbnuts

  33. People are beginning to believe that anything that comes from this Administration is based on BS numbers that are completely made up. Now if you would come to the realization that your first grade teacher was more interested in politics than educating you, you would realize that you have been had since day one. When FDR talked about his hero, Uncle Joe, who do you think he was referring to?
