Where are the jobs?

The Republican Study Committee released this chart today on the catastrophic jobs numbers

Democrats said their costly plan ($1.2 trillion, including interest) would “save or create” up to 4 million jobs and bring the unemployment rate down to about 6% today. The unemployment rate has not fallen below 8% at any point in the last 36 months. Furthermore, the official unemployment rate does not actually count unemployed people who have given up looking for work.

The above chart shows the “labor force participation rate.” This statistic represents the share of working-age Americans who are either employed or unemployed but looking for work. It is not a pretty picture. Only 63.7% of working-age Americans are currently in the workforce – the lowest in almost 29 years!

To put it another way, 36.3% of working-age Americans do not have a job and are not even looking.

After 3 years of failure, it’s time to try something that will work. Let’s ramp up energy production. Let’s cut away government red tape that slows down job creation. And let’s design new tax code that is simpler, flatter, and fairer. Let’s pass the Jobs Through Growth Act, and create jobs by growing the economy – not the government.

And, Jeff at Protein Wisdom posted this chart that shows when the jobs started coming back.

And don’t forget… Barack Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression.

No wonder the White House insists that workers dropping out of the work force is an “economnic positive.”

Glenn Reynolds added: “I think it’s smart of them to focus on total-employment numbers, rather than the headline “unemployment” rate. But I’m predicting little interest in these numbers from the mainstream press, who seem uninterested in anything that doesn’t fit the Obama-recovery narrative.”

UPDATE: The CBO creported today that the U.S. has seen the longest period of high unemployment since the Great Depression under the leadership of Barack Obama.

  1. Thank you! I am sick and tired of Reps conceding the idea that the economy is “recovering”. It isn’t. The numbers are being massaged to make us believe it is. Obama will continue to manipulate those numbers throughout the year, right into November. It is up to Republicans to expose them for what they are…lies. The evidence is out there. Reps need to get off their lazy duffs and bring it to light.

  2. There is another way to look at the employment chart. During the 2008 election, around the time of the conventions–late summer, early fall–it became clear that Obama was going to be the next president, and that McCain wasn’t going to work very hard to change that. If you look at the employment levels, they remained strong through August and only then began tanking–already half-way through the formal recession. In other words, only when it became clear that we would have Obama in the White House (and both sides of the Capitol under Democratic control) the layoffs started in earnest.

    Where are the jobs?

coming in line at a voter station near you soon..

    oh wait,

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national
security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security
force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

we are the force now.. :-(

[What made this secular religion so utterly lethal was its seizure of all
the state's instrument of force and coercion and their immediate use
to destroy or control all independent sources of power, such as the
church, the professions, private businesses, schools, and, of course,
    the family.]

  4. Charts? They released a bunch of friggin’ charts?

    WHOOPEEEE!!!!!

This is why the stupid party doesn’t know how to win.

What the GOP needs to do is release a series of videos where they interview lots of people who actually gave up looking for work and who would desperately love to be working again. The can add the charts to those videos. Do they or don’t they want to beat Obama? I have to wonder.

  5. Al Gore wants to make it worse. His plan is

    1) reduce the amount of information available about public companies, and

    2) force them to include boilerplate statements about the ecology in their business reports.

Dear God, and I voted for this man!

I’ll say it clear. Companies should stick to their knitting. Asking companies to consider the environmental impact of their activities is asking them to do something they are not designed to do. They will not do it well, unless it is to report on how their own manufacturing plants work, which is something they already have to do. There’s no benefit in putting this in the annual report, at the expense of deleting the quarterly reports.

    This. Is. Stupid.

  6. Here are some more of the very sad results of this circle jerk administrations policies, I am so incredibly angry that this fraud was foisted on us by the left-wing radicals, unthinking minions and a conspiratorial media.

    This story makes me spit:

How many victims are there just like this?

  7. Here’s another graphic showing same statistic.

  8. After 3 years of failure, it’s time to try something that will work.

The fact that socialism doesn’t work, and has been around a lot longer than three lousy years, hasn’t stopped Democrats from repeatedly trying to implement it in this country. Basically, they’re insane.

If Americans want to try something new, then the way to go about it is to stop voting for Democrats.
