Seattle libraries will not allow patrons to eat or sleep or go barefoot. But they can watch all the hardcore porn they want in front of children.
Seattle PI reported:

The Seattle Public Library has a long list of rules of things you can’t do in the library, to ensure “comfort and safety” of staff and patrons. You can’t eat, sleep, look like you’re sleeping, be barefoot, be too stinky or talk too loudly.

But you can watch graphic porn on a public computer in front of kids. Despite repeated complaints from female patrons about men watching porn in full view of their children, the library has held fast to its policy of unfettered online access for grown-ups.

The reason: It’s not in the business of censorship.

The latest dust-up comes after a mother with her two kids saw a man watching “hard-core porn” at the Lake City library and complained. When the librarian refused to ask the man move to a less visible screen, Julie Howe wrote the library, the media and lawyers and got on KUOW.

“It was very shocking,” said Howe, whose 10-year-old girl had seen the man’s screen and cried that night. But, she acknowledged, “it’s not an easy one to solve.”

Other libraries also allow porn

The library’s position was mirrored elsewhere. The King County Library System has a similar policy, of filtering kids’ access on computers, while allowing adults to roam freely. The American Library Association endorses the same stance.

“Sometimes, in a library, you’re going to see information that’s going to make you uncomfortable,”
Barbara Jones, director of the association’s intellectual freedom office, said on KUOW Wednesday.

Stephen Kruiser has more on the right to watch porn in public.

  1. Only God can heal this nation. Better hit your knees. Evil will be more and more visable as time goes on. It will only get worse because we have not turned to God for help. We are like the children of Isreal complaining in the desert and not turning to God. have faith in God and not in yourselves.

  2. Our tax dollars at work.

  3. So taxpayers must fund grimy old masturbators AND must have their children exposed to porn? I wonder sometimes why God hasn’t already destroyed humanity out of simple outrage.

  4. Isn’t this from the same city that has a statue of Lenin?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Lenin_%28Seattle%29

They really must be proud of themselves up there.

  5. How is this not a state created and sanctioned hostile environment for children, their parents, and anyone whose sexual orientation and/or religious beliefs holds that the pornographic exploitation of other human beings is obscene and wrong? A public library? Are the sexual more or Seattle truly so low and blue that this is somehow acceptable?

  6. Go in and watch abortion videos in front of liberals and see if their policy doesn’t change.

  7. If viewing of hardcore porn was allowed in a work place, a woman would sue her employer for sexual harassment. Whey can’t a woman sue this Library for sexual harassment?

  8. Just like abortions. Freedom to see porn and freedom to abort a human being. Where are morals.

Pray people we need God’s help.

I realize that the laws must be changed. NOW

  9. If viewing of hardcore porn was allowed in a work place, a woman would sue her employer for sexual harassment. Why can’t a woman sue this Library for sexual harassment?

  10. “Sometimes, in a library, you’re going to see information that’s going to make you uncomfortable,” Barbara Jones, director of the association’s intellectual freedom office, said on KUOW Wednesday.

    *****

We can pretty much guess that Jones is the typical lefty. This sort of information is to be known, but requiring the local abortuary and its abortionists disclose fetal development information and an ultrasound the life developing within, well, THAT information is best kept a secret.

The hypocrisy of the left is breath-taking.

  11. Ooops, sorry for the double post, computer is lagging today.

  12. If a father watched hardcore porn in front of his child, he would be charged with child abuse, and would have his children taken away from him. He would be providing an unsafe environment for a child.

Yet, a man at a Government run Library can do the same thing and not get charged with child abuse?

    Really?

2004: Mitt Romney Supported Radical Gay Group

[One of the AAC’s more infamous publications is The Little Black Book, Queer in the 21st Century, which was published, as the booklet itself states, with assistance from Romney’s Department of Public Health. The booklet promotes the most perverse behavior, including “water sports,” “rimming” and “fisting.” It also lists local gay bars. Incredibly, this filth was distributed to public schools. In 2005, when some parents discovered the booklet was passed out at Brookline High, all hell broke loose. Apparently, some parents thought teaching their kids how to urinate on one another wasn’t a good idea. The controversy was covered by the Boston Globe and Romney was questioned by a reporter about it. He had little choice but to denounce The Little Black Book as “graphic pornographic material” that didn’t belong in the public schools.

However, a year earlier, Romney’s own Department of Public Health assisted AAC with the publication of the booklet. Moreover, the AAC has always used graphic material in its publications, even during the time period it received $10,000 from Romney. It’s what AAC is known for. It is hard to believe Romney didn’t know this. Romney apologists will argue that AAC also worked to prevent AIDS, but it hard to see how a group that promotes such risky behaviors can do any good preventing AIDS.]

[Marxist inspired movement in social and political philosophy originally associated with the work of the Frankfurt school. Drawing particularly on the thought of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud, critical theorists maintain that a primary goal of philosophy is to understand and to help overcome the social structures through which people are dominated and oppressed. Believing that science, like other forms of knowledge, has been used as an instrument of oppression, they caution against a blind faith in scientific progress, arguing that scientific knowledge must not be pursued as an end in itself without reference to the goal of human emancipation. Since the 1970s, critical theory has been immensely influential in the study of history, law, literature, and the social sciences.]

  14. Isn’t this Government run Library admitting they’re committing an act of child endangerment?

I thought that was against the law?

  15. Check out video from Beck’s TV show from Thursday evening with Rabbi Daniel Lapin. It’s all about worshipping Baal and not even being aware of it. I think it’s on the Blaze. He said he was going to make Tues-Thurs shows from this week available for free.

  16. Nothing that people in Seattle, or for that matter Portland, Or. suprises me. Seattle’s nickname is “Little San Fransisco”. Portland is proud of the fact that the people consider themselves weird, (and they definatley are). Why do you think its called the “Left Coast”? They are saturated with libs.

  17. Molesters, perverts use the Library services all the time. This is their best way to find another child to molest.

  18. Dear King County Library System:

Thank you for making this clarifying statement. You have declared your libraries to be spaces similar to biker bars, hard rock concert venues, erotic bakeries, triple-X theaters and novelty condom stores — all places I would never think to take a child.

Shame, too. I have many happy memories of going to the library as a kid. But you’ve helped define the world my boys will grow up in as a place where the public library is hostile to children and parents. Instead the boys will be reading from our home collection, taking trips to our ever-shrinking neighborhood bookstore or buying titles from Amazon.

  19. “Sometimes, in a library, you’re going to see information that’s going to make you uncomfortable,” Barbara Jones, director of the association’s intellectual freedom office, said on KUOW Wednesday.

Really, someone test this theory. If you’re in Seattle, go down to the library and watch a video of Sarah Palin or perhaps, listen to Rush Limbaugh online. Report back what happens, after you post bail no doubt.
