Rick Santorum: Obama’s Agenda Not Based on the Bible

Rick Santorum told supporters on Saturday that Barack Obama’s agenda is not based on the Bible.
Oh, come on Rick… We all know Obama went to church.

Reuters reported:

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum challenged President Barack Obama’s Christian beliefs on Saturday, saying White House policies were motivated by a “different theology.”

A devout Roman Catholic who has risen to the top of Republican polls in recent days, Santorum said the Obama administration had failed to prevent gas prices rising and was using “political science” in the debate about climate change.

Obama’s agenda is “not about you. It’s not about your quality of life. It’s not about your jobs. It’s about some phony ideal. Some phony theology. Oh, not a theology based on the Bible. A different theology,” Santorum told supporters of the conservative Tea Party movement at a Columbus hotel.

It’s hard to tell if this will hurt Rick or help him.
However, it does keep the focus off of Obama’s disastrous economic record.

More… Still others say Obama has been attacking Christianity since 2008.

Jim, all this stuff is really getting on my last nerve. We have the most predictable economic collapse in history rocketing our way and all we can talk about is the Catholic Church, religion, and contraception. We need to calmly inform everyone that the Church objects to the abortion aspect of the case, forget the contraception angle, and get back on point. Which is the economy and the debt. The Republicans need to be pounding Obama daily on the debt, deficit spending, the budget, Obama’s friends green payoffs, crony socialism, fair taxes, voter fraud by Democrats, gun control, and a host of other issues not related to religion.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

However, it will keep the focus off of Barack Obama’s disastrous economic record.

Then it’s not the smart thing to do.

It’s probably a good thing that his religion is important to him, but there are bigger fish to fry, like getting the country back on track to prosperity, getting people back to work, and getting the government out of our lives as much as possible, and religion is unlikely to be a big factor in doing any of these things. He needs to stop bringing this subject up unless he intends to allow it to decide how he’d run the show, in which case he’s going to drive off potential supporters that don’t agree with that approach.

  • No kidding. It is about time someone said it.

  • Bubba

    Yup, you got it, J.

We can laugh and mock Barry and his election machine all we want, but you better godd****** understand this–the team Barry understand in a way the GOP can’t seem to even comprehend, much less match, how to play the election game.

This idiotic “white noise” of contraception talk isn’t just something that popped up. It’s a central tactic of team Barry.

No one–NO..FREAKING…ONE!!!–outside of the Right of Right right cares about this. Team Barry knows he’s lost that demo already, so who cares about pushing their buttons? But people who don’t see the big deal (and yeah, don’t kid yourself–that includes a BIG chunk of the “christians” and even “catholics”) in this regard it as damn annoying, all this stupid focus and obsession with it when there are so much more pressing and bigger issues. It’s a piss off hearing about it all the time. Beyond the fact that that it takes the focus off the number one and two issues–the economy, and Barrycare. And, it’s a turn off. People will tune out.

And, THAT’S why team Barry came up with it. True to form (team Barry reads them like a “see dick run” book), the GOP has taken the bait.

I don’t doubt that some of the delusional incubated readers of this blog will miss this point, but whatever–it doesn’t make it any less true.

It reminds me of the scene in Star Wars…”Everything is progressing as I have seen it.”

Enough is enough with the idiotic Right which is seemingly hell bent on handing the election to Barry—give it a rest already, and GET BACK TO WHAT REALLY MATTERS. FREAKS!!!!

    I disagree.

    Spot-on. Script-perfect.

    Oscar-worthy.

Like he’s read the whole Bible, memorized it, and has chosen to play the role of antichrist.

Yup, his beliefs are uncannily in line with those of certain characters in the Bible.

  • I’ve seen Obama reading!

No wait, that was a book titled “Post-American World”.

Hold on. I saw Obama teaching students about another book.

Oh no. that was “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky. Dedicated to Lucifer, wasn’t it? Obama bats for the other team.

Santorum can spend 10 hours/day speaking economics & national defense and mention a religious topic for 1 minute and 99% of the coverage the next day will be on religion. That distortion is bad enough coming from the left wing press, we don’t need the gullible serving as an amplifier.

That’s why Santorum needs to get this through his head and lay off all the religion talk.

  • CatoRenasci

This is just more evidence that Santorum is tone deaf and clueless about what it will take to beat Obama and what the American people really care about. What a maroon!

  • labman57

Since when should theology and religious beliefs dictate public policy decisions?

Obama understands the distinction between his Christian values and his role as POTUS, something that the self-righteous, theocracy-minded Santorum will never comprehend.

  • Lady Mondegreen

The problem with Santorum is that he is a true believer. He thinks he’s doing God’s will. People who think like that should be off clothing the naked and feeding the poor. They are dangerous in politics.

    GoodWench for the win! GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!

Someone is obviously not clear on the concept of “beliefs”.

They inform everything we do. No matter where we are.

Maybe we should just make it illegal for Christians to work in any government capacity.

(Muslims, though? Not a problem. Marxists? A-okay. Theocratic Atheists? Cool!)

Because of course, none of THEIR “beliefs” influence their decision-making.

Christ in a gyro, hold the taiziki.

  • Contessa61

And why should a political agenda be based on the bible???

Santorums Christian rants will give Obama 4 more years. Stick with the economy Rick.

  • Obama has made this election about social issues instead about his failed policies.Thats why he pick this fight with Catholic church now.Republicans have fallen-face forward into the trap.We should be talking about jobs how his policies and regulations have killed jobs and high gas-prices what can be done about them, instead we’re talking about this stuff.

  • interested

This is important. Nobody followed up on his beliefs before the last election.
Rev. Wright was very forthcoming with references to James Cone and black liberation theology.

I’m glad to see Santorum attacking B. Hussein, he needs to be attacked on all of his vulnerabilities.
I prefer to see our candidates attacking B. Hussein 24/7 rather than attacking each other.

No question: Help Santorum is a big way. Go Santorum. Now you are definitely hitting home runs.

About time someone speaks the truth. Truth is that a wonderful word to hear after 3 years of Rules for Radicals…policies regulations mandates. Definitely a breath of Fresh Air.

Truth seems to hurt the left. Now doesn’t it.

The Obama campaign is having to switch their propaganda now. They were thinking the would be battling Romney.

GOP is stirring things up and I wonder if that isn’t their plan along. Keep the Obama team on their toes. At All Times.

  • Ruready?

Rick is right as rain. Obama continually claims he acts on Biblical principles. Knock “his highness” off his false throne. Tell me fellow posters, why is it ok for Obama to tie Christianity to his actions – but if Rick challenges Obama’s claim, Santorum is now some kind of religious fanatic???

  • what a novel idea, a republican candidate criticizing obama. and most people here criticize santorum for doing it. he better get back to blasting newt and mittens so everyone here can be happy.

it seems to me what was in santorum’s remarks was mostly politicial. it looks like reuters or jim hoft emphasized the one sentence that mentioned the bible. i think that theology of obama’s that santorum was refering to was marxism not some religion. besides reuters isn’t politically biased are they.

#1 J. Knight is correct. It’s not a Catholic issue, the issue is abortion drugs.

For Santorum to say this implies he has just been released from a prison planet outside our solar system and having been held in solitary confinement on the mother ship up to 10 minutes ago he just discovered that Obama has a different agenda than the Bible???

Well, Rick boy, you’re wrong. Obama’s agenda is exactly, nay precisely laid out in the Bible. And it was done 2,000 years ago. So Rick boy, you had better get back into the scripture before you open your yap again trying to pander to the “Evangelical” vote, whatever that means anymore. Simply put, you are making a fool of yourself by pretending you know something about Scripture.

  • oMUSTgo

I am glad to see Santorum speaking about his faith. He is being honest about where he stands and what he believes. Obamanation has NEVER done that. Nobody really knows where O stands because one day he talks about his muslim faith and the next day he talks about his Christian faith – depending on his audience. You can’t be both and his actions show he is neither. Santorum never leaves us with any doubt. Our nation was built on Christian values but we have gotten so far away from that. I pray we can return and Santorum is the candidate that can get us on the right path.

  • Obama is the one who dragged theology into this by claiming at the National Prayer Breakfast that Jesus would have supported his Leftist agenda. Good for Santorum for calling him out on it.

Tell me fellow posters, why is it ok for Obama to tie Christianity to his actions – but if Rick challenges Obama’s claim, Santorum is now some kind of religious fanatic???

    ^This^

Because the MSM know that Obama doesn’t mean it. They know that Rick does mean it.

They are afraid of God’s word, and they attack those who really believe.

They don’t attack Romney, on the “faith” front. Because his “faith” is not of truth.

It is not really the MSM that know these facts. It is the spirit that dwells within them.

Which is why the only two “religions” that are verboten in public life, be it schools or fire departments or Washington D.C., are Judaism and Christianity.

The spirit of this world hates truth.

There are no “Council on American-Christian Relations” agencies. There are no cadres and cabals of Christians teaching cops and Federal agents, via mandatory Special High Intensity Training sessions, how to appropriately deal with the “Christian Community.”

The spirit of the world says: “It’s All Good!™”

“It’s All Good!™” does not apply to God’s Word. ONLY TO FALSEHOODS.

How very unChristian of Santorum to question the values of anyone else’s belief system. Just another example of religious bigotry and extreme fanaticism at work.

Obama is not a Muslim but what he said is right, cos Obama grow among muslims since teenage, but the American never know what Islam is, what they knew only from media propaganda and it’s so intens for decades.

Why is it that Obama is the one demonstrating teachings of the Bible “never turn your back on the poor” and Santorum and his counterparts want to gut all safety nets during a time like this? Why do Republicans support the GREED of huge corporations rather than the poor? Why do Republicans never have anything to say about Abortion and BC unless it is an election year? Didnt they have 8 yrs to do what they could have regarding these two issues. I am a True Christian and I think that the Republican Candidates go against what the Bible says and use Christians as tools when they need us. Just an observation because I too believe that fake christians are at work here. But I see the Republicans as being the fake Christians.

Who gives any of you the right to decide who is a Christian and who is not. Just because you know nothing about the Book of Mormon or what is is about. It wasn’t meant to replace the Bible but to stand beside it. The hardest thing I find about trying to be a good Christian, is knowing I want to tell you all what low life ignorant fools you are to think that what is in the Bible are the only scriptures that were written. The Vatican knows how many more there were and they are not the Bible or Book of Mormon either. Do you really think that while Jesus was here that the few little actual words that are in the Bible, is all that he ever said? I think not. So , I will keep my anger and swear words in control and try to remember to pray for your ignorance to be forgiven by Heavenly Father, because you obviously don’t know a Christian when you see one. May you be forgiven for your hateful words also.

  • Ruready?

#44 – I am responding to all other posters here so that your comment does not cause confusion. I John 2:24 states

“Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.”

There are a lot of reasons that I know that Jesus and Satan are not brothers (a Mormon teaching), but one good reason that I know it (from the verse above) is that the church has not taught that doctrine “from the beginning”. All tradition is not truth, but all truth is traditional.

For those who ask why Santorum doesn’t talk about the ”real” issues, he does…a lot. The media chooses to ignore all of that and pick out one sentence they can use.

“Obama understands the distinction between his Christian values”

Obama has Christian values? I see no evidence of that whatsoever.

  • Occidental Tourist

Mr. Santorum, like so many politicans, doesn’t realize that the insinuation of religion/the Bible into discourse makes us that much closer to the theocracies of the world that create Taliban-like emotional fascism.
Although we are mostly Christian–the rule— we must honor above all else the irreligious citizenship of people, even atheists or Taoists–the exception.
We should, intellectually and with obeissance to critical thinking, abide by the belief that government, while naturally informed by religious precepts and scruples, functions without preference to any religion. That is what protects us in the days when, say–horror!– the Muslims outnumber us in this country; therefore, because of this established constitutional impetus Islamists can’t impose their will and ways on a protesting minority.
I think y’all should realize that Santorum, like Romney, stands as a joke to independents and moderates, not to mention liberals. I believe a consistently ideals-driven person such as Ron Paul would favor Obama over Santorum, in that Paul understands the role of religion in political procedure.

  • Occidental Tourist

    Taqi,

It seems that you have the delectably diabolical ability to both overreach and over-simplify within the same blog. Liked the tzatziki/Christ conceit…

  • I disagree. Obama’s value do come from ‘a’ bible, only it isn’t the Christian Bible. His values come from the anti-US, souless, Liberal bible that was written by Alinsky.

It is time for Christians to take the gloves off. One must take it to a higher level. When dealing with evil there is no such thing as a fair fight.

  • WillofLa

Obama has got to be the most idiotic President we’ve ever had. Take that monitor away from him and he’s just this jokular guy who doesn’t really know what to say. He’s so used to his handlers writing his responses, and I’m sure they are telling him, “Don’t worry Barry, we’re not going to make you look the fool. We got your back, man.”

Does Obama know the Bible? No one knows because we can’t get him away from that monitor. All we hear is his barking out orders to shut this company down, or stop that companies production, or slow this cash flow. We don’t and have never seen an ordinary conversation with him, you know, like the kind we used to see Dianne Sawyer give from time to time with other Presidents.

I don’t know if we ever will corner him and get the truth out of him. I guess that won’t happen until the patriots take the White House and sit him down. But you know what? The left wouldn’t believe him confessing he meant to destroy this nation because of all the high tech that can be done with digital camera’s these days. It’s incredible. You can literally fake anything you want. But see the left doesn’t know anything about truth being stranger than fiction. I want to see Santorum attack Obama on his associations. I want Santorum to find a FBI agent and ask him on camera if he believes Obama could have passed the FBI background search when he became a candidate. I have heard from intellegence experts who are former FBI agents and run intel company’s now, that, NO, Obama could not have passed a background search because of his subversive associations, and his allegence to Marxist and Communist individuals in his past. And Jeromiah Wright is one of them. He is a subversive from way back, and should still be in prison as far as I’m concerned.

  • WillofLa

    #28 Ruready,

Because the left doesn’t like someone with real Christian beliefs. They only like Christian’s with “soft” religious beliefs. Soft, is how the left wants everyone’s beliefs to be so that people with them can be told to “tone it down” and the believer’s will. See, easy to control. Easy religious beliefs are easier to put back on the back burner so as not to offend anyone. The only religious beliefs the left really fears is Muslims because of their violence, and history of murder and cutting people’s heads off if you disagree with them. Yeah, and Islam also has as it’s history cowardace in the face of overpowering force, they wimp back like a scared puppy when they know if they pursue their line of hostility they will get their butts kicked. Then all of a sudden they want to sit down and negotiate with you. Like they do the Israeli’s all the time. The PLO knows Israel could easily kick their butts, but they use the rest of the world to back them up against Israeli anger.

The left likes it when they can get Christian’s to hush up about Jesus and God. So Santorum scares them, and that’s why they always paint him as a nut case. The left says, “See, this is religious fanatisism everybody. This is what we don’t accept, and you will have problems in the society we’re building if you do act like this.”

  • Ed Norton

These stories are old and lame. The reason NO US President should lead “based on the bible” is because America is not a theocracy. Enough idiocy over stupid “how religious is YOUR candidate?” arguments and focus on jobs and economy.

  • dunce

It is often said that the truth hurts, but the question is, who is hurt by the truth. Obamas whole life was and is dedicated to lies and Santorum will not be hurt by telling the truth as a servant of God in contrast to a fool that thinks he is a God.
