Good Grief… Barbara Boxer Says Komen Decision “Reminiscent of McCarthy Era” (Video)

Senator Moonbat Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is so upset that the Komen Foundation Race for the Cure won’t fund abortions that she told MSNBC it’s “reminiscent of the McCarthy era.”

Really Babs?… Really?

The Hill reported, via Lucianne:

Criticizing the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s to defund Planned Parenthood, Sen. Barbra Boxer (D-Calif.) said Thursday the breast cancer foundation was getting involved in a “political witch hunt.”

“I’m reminded of the McCarthy era” Boxer said on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” a period she described as “a congressman stands up, a senator, [and says] ‘I’m investigating this organization and therefore people should stop funding them.’ ”

Komen withdrew funding to Planned Parenthood because the abortion group does not do mammograms.

Is Barbara Boxer possibly the dumbest US Senator of all-time?

  • Joe College

How can they dictate policy to a charity?

  • P. Aaron

McCarthy chaired senate hearing questioning gov’t employees (that had access to classified gov’t data) who’s names were collected by the FBI. FBI investigations led to the suspicion that those people had ties to the US Communist Party.

That seems like something we still ought to be doing.

  • P. Aaron

Looking at it the way that the Dems (& anyone who watches PBS) do, Boxer’s actions here are ‘McCarthy’ like.

Whenever Boxer speaks I’m reminded of Kim Jong-il. Note to California: Keep electing fools like her and your problems will only increase.

Sen. Barbara Boxer is a dinosaur that reacts to the question posed, rather than to find out what the question really means.

The dirty little secret the left wants everyone to ignore. Planned Parenthood is first and foremost an abortion provider and doesn’t perform mammograms, they only refer women to clinics that actually perform them. In other words, Komen was getting nothing for their money.

Don’t worry in three days it’ll be: “I’m reminded of Alabama 1964 segregated lunch counters and water cannons.”

Senator Boxer, I have $100 left over from all my expenses. DO I give it to Planned Parenthood or a starving mother and her kid in AFrica?
You want to TAX it out of me, my $100 I am sending to a starving mother and her kid in AFrica so that rich AMericans who can pay for it themselves can get abortions for free? Guess that’s a Liberal Left two-fer! Kill a baby and let the African mother and child starve! That’s THREE human beings dead!

I suspect there is also concern at Komen about the recent data indicating that abortion can lead to breast cancer. The hormonal stimulation of the breast during pregnancy, that is suddenly interrupted by having life sucked out of the womb, becomes a stimulus for production of tumors rather than mother’s milk.

The Democrats lack of meaningful leadership and discipline is really beginning to show. Debbie Wasserman Schultz may indeed be one of the most soulless, pathetic idiots willing to say the most absurd things in order to defuse their aggressive totalitarian march, but she’s no leader, nor is Joe “The sun’s rising… must be drinkin time already” Biden and Barack “I think therefore I rule” Obama.

The effect may be a serious shark-jumping of all their scare metaphors and other memes used to terrify, round up and move their easily herded masses. Most competent marketers would recognize this phenomenon; sticking the “racism” or “McCarthy” labels onto every minor skirmish destroys its brand value. It’s one thing to see line extension of the Cheerio brand into cereal bars, but Cheerio motor oil, bleach, feminine products, men’s shoe deoderizers and cheerio insecticide destroys the linkage in the consumer’s mind that has so carefully been constructed over time.

It’s having a profound effect. I know many retired life-long union Democrats who now laugh when one of these charges is bantered. “Oh yea, well everything’s racist now. My dog’s racist. Look! There’s a racist car.” The people are understanding that the sole meaning of the word racism is that some partisan is unhappy about something.

Perhaps this is a good thing, bringing us truly to a post-racial society. We appear to be at a majority that understands race doesn’t matter anymore, unless you’re a whiner who wants to make it an issue when it isn’t.

  • Kaitian

I find it hilarious that my incompetent senator is next to Barbara Boxer. She’s dumber than a door knob. She’s basically told what to do by people in her organization because she cannot formulate her own opinions or come up with a good conclusion on anything. After all, she’s just “a mom in tennis shoes”.

  • Nosmo

Wonder if Boxer knows that Robert Kennedy was part of McCarthy’s team and that history has proven that McCarthy was right.

  • tj

Help me out here… McCarthy was in favor of directly funding mammograms? Who knew?

Also our press would tell you that the McCarthy era was very bad… A time when Congress was interested in fighting against the enemies of our country as opposed to fleecing the citizens of our country…

Is Babs afraid of a being a target to a Congress that actually exposes and punishes people who are fighting against the citizens of our country?

    Obie… Eric (benwith) Holden… Timmy Geitner…

You know, I have very little respect for Republican politicians for a host of reasons, not the least of which is that they have continued to allow libs to use the “McCarthyism” meme for generations…when in fact, Joe McCarthy was railroaded by dems and the GOP establishment in much the same way that Gingrich was in the nineties.

However I DESPISE democrats for their blatant dishonesty and unbridled hypocrisy. They are vile.

  • Finncrisp

I would remind Sen. Boxcar that the unborn females have rights, too. Nothing like a fake feminist to stick her size whatever into her mouth.

  • Atlanta Media Guy

So Obama and Dem Congress critters want to be able to tell charities where their money MUST go. With the tax laws changing, headed by Rangel and crew, the charities are making sure they can track the grants that they give and that those grants go to mammograms, the mission of the Komen for Cure. I think the Dems and Planned Parenthood are over playing their hand and will get a huge brush back. These women that walk have to get at least $1,500 in donations to be able to participate. It’s an incredibly successful charity and it helped my wife get a mammogram when we were both unemployed.

The Femi-Nazi’s sure are showing their true colors. Madam Boxer please look at yourself in the mirror, you will see Commie Red in those eyes of yours.

[On Tuesday, Planned Parenthood revealed that 19 of its affiliates would no longer receive grants from the Komen foundation for breast health programs because of revamped criteria barring new grants to groups under local, state or federal investigations. Unfortunately for me, Boxer is my Senator. For years now, I’ve referred to her as the ‘grim reaper’ directly because of her pro Kill the Unborn stance. Boxer got her start in politics as one of those neighborhood Nazis a.k.a. Homeowner Assoc. officer. This woman is as dumb as box of rocks. Isn’t it something watching the Libs go completely unhinged as one of their primary sources of non-profit cashola says ‘take a hike’. I have boycotted Komen’s walks for years because of their abortion funding. It’s so nice to see this… and man are they getting hit … wonder if they knew it would be this ugly. Liberals are so fricking predictable and just suck.

  • Gini

Apparently Komen is funding 3 Planned Parenthood clinics which DO do mammograns, but not funding the remaining 16 as those clinics only give referrals to clinics where mammograms are done. I fail to see what the liberals are so upset about.

    Joseph McCarthy

[Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public figure to
stand up to Communist infiltration of the United States government. A
1954 Gallup poll found that Joe McCarthy was the fourth on its list of
most admired men. He is now considered an American hero by many,
though liberals still seek to tarnish his name.

He was noted for claiming that there were large numbers of
Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers, engaged in
a conspiracy to undermine the United States, inside the federal
government. He was proven correct by government documents
and inquiry, including decrypted Venona files.]

List of Americans in the Venona papers

[Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Chairman of the bipartisan Commission
on Government Secrecy, responsible for securing the release of Venona
project materials, in the Introduction to his book Secrecy states, “The
Venona intercepts contained overwhelming proof of the activities of Soviet
spy networks in America, complete with names, dates, places, and deeds.”
The release involved careful consideration of privacy interests of individuals
mentioned, referenced, or identified in the translations. Some names have
not been released when to do so would constitute an invasion of privacy.
Over 200 named or covernamed persons found in the VENONA translations,

The truth keeps getting obscured by the media propaganda repeatedly being regurgitated even in this day and age as so appropriately exemplified by Boxer and her declamations being reported as news.

Many people believe SENATOR McCarthy led the hearings run by the House Un-American Activities Committee in the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Just shows how atrocious the state of education is when even basic understanding of how government is set up is politicized.

Look at these two feminists. Planned Parenthood doesn’t perform mammogram screenings was Komen’s reasoning and Komen is an organization that is about Breast Cancer. But anyway PP’s contributions are up by 100% since story first broke.

Bloomberg has contributed 1/4 million so I hear to PP. What do these two nags want. Blood.

    Abortions are bloody enough.

  • Patty

During her report, CBS’s Nancy Cordes noted that “Planned Parenthood, which also provides abortion services, is a long-time target for social conservatives, like New Jersey Congressman Chris Smith.” However, she did not give Rep. Jackie Speier, who has a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America, an equivalent ideological label. The correspondent merely identified her as a “Democrat.”

The following morning, both CBS and NBC continued their coverage of the controversy between Komen and Planned Parenthood. On Thursday’s CBS This Morning, Cordes filed a follow-up report, but this time, left out the ideological labels for politicians on both sides of the debate.

CORDES: Planned Parenthood’s history of providing abortions has earned it some powerful opponents.

NEWT GINGRICH, (R), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: It is the largest abortion provider in the United States- period.

CORDES: On Capitol Hill, Florida Republican Cliff Stearns has launched an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s use of taxpayer funds. The Komen Foundation says that investigation was a factor in their decision. Democrats called the investigation a partisan witch hunt that will go nowhere.

REP. JACKIE SPEIER, (D), CALIFORNIA (from speech on the House floor): Last time I checked, we were all presumed innocent until proven guilty.

It should be pointed out, however, that she later identified a vice president for Komen as being “anti-abortion.”

On NBC’s Today show, as NewsBusters’s Kyle Drennen pointed out, chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman tried to meld the Planned Parenthood controversy with the firestorm over Mitt Romney’s “not concerned about the very poor” remark.

Since January 20, the day that the Obama administration issued its health care mandate, there has only been one brief mention of the issue on the Big Three networks’ morning and evening news programs. On January 30, CBS This Morning anchor Charlie Rose cited a story from the USA Today that “says Catholics blast federal birth control mandate.”

Komen apologizes for ‘recent decisions,’ pledges to continue funding Planned Parenthood

Komen for the Cure just released the following statement from Nancy Brinker and the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors:

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

It is our hope and we believe it is time for everyone involved to pause, slow down and reflect on how grants can most effectively and directly be administered without controversies that hurt the cause of women. We urge everyone who has participated in this conversation across the country over the last few days to help us move past this issue. We do not want our mission marred or affected by politics – anyone’s politics.

Starting this afternoon, we will have calls with our network and key supporters to refocus our attention on our mission and get back to doing our work. We ask for the public’s understanding and patience as we gather our Komen affiliates from around the country to determine how to move forward in the best interests of the women and people we serve.

We extend our deepest thanks for the outpouring of support we have received from so many in the past few days and we sincerely hope that these changes will be welcomed by those who have expressed their concern.

Romney Told Catholic Hospitals to Administer Abortion Pills

A defining moment in Mitt Romney’s post-pro-life-conversion political career came in his third year as governor of Massachusetts, when he decided Catholic hospitals would be required under his interpretation of a new state law to give rape victims a drug that can induce abortions.

Romney announced this decision — saying it was the “right thing for hospitals” to do — just two days after he had taken the opposite position.

The story begins in 1975, when Massachusetts enacted a law that said, “No privately controlled hospital .. shall be required to permit any patient to have an abortion … or to furnish contraceptive devices or information to such patient … when said services or referrals are contrary to the religious or moral principles of said hospital … .”

Twenty-seven years later, when Romney was running for governor, he filled out a questionnaire for NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. It said: “Emergency contraception does not cause abortion. Rather, it prevents pregnancy from occurring. Will you support efforts to increase access to emergency contraception?”

    Romney said: “Yes.”

The next year, the Massachusetts legislature considered an “emergency contraception” mandate. It would have allowed pharmacists to sell Plan B — an abortifacient — without a prescription and without parental consent. It also would have required all hospitals to inform rape victims of the availability of such “emergency contraceptives” and provide them to the rape victim if she wanted them even when they would cause an abortion.

Maria Parker of the Massachusetts Catholic Conference, the public policy organization of the state’s Catholic bishops, explained in testimony to the state legislature why Catholic hospitals could not do this.

The normal Catholic ban on artificial contraception did not apply in a rape case, Parker said. But while contraception was acceptable in such a situation, killing an unborn child was not.

In keeping with this moral understanding, one Massachusetts Catholic hospital chain would later explain to the Boston Globe that its practice was to test a rape victim to make certain she was not pregnant and only then give her emergency contraceptives. If the test proved the woman was pregnant, the hospital would not give the woman the drugs because they could not prevent conception but they could kill her child.

Parker concluded her testimony by quoting what Cardinal Frances George of Chicago had told the Illinois legislature when it proposed a similar law: “Our hospitals cannot and will not comply with this law.”

In that session, the Massachusetts Senate passed the “emergency contraception” bill, but it was blocked in the House.

An added thought re: Romney Told Catholic Hospitals to Administer Abortion Pills
    ..via Protein Wisdom:

‘ A true leader would have said: I will defend the First Amendment right of Catholics to freely exercise their religion — against those who would force them to participate in abortions — all the way to the Supreme Court.

    Well, a true conservative leader.

But Romney is not that, no matter how much Ann Coulter or Donald Trump or Bob Dole and John McCain try to tell me so.

If the GOP establishment and their attendants succeed in pushing Romney for the nomination, the Republican nominee against Barack Obama will share with the President the following:

    1) both backed the stimulus
    2) both backed TARP
    3) both back cap and trade
    4) both believe it is the role of capitalism to create jobs for the working man, not as a product but as a motivation
    5) both support the federal minimum wage
    6) both supported gun control
    7) both support an individual mandate
    8) both support state-run health care
    9) both believe that religious conscience laws are trumped by all-encompassing state mandates

    Etc.

As the list continues to grow — and as we’re told hectored more forcefully about our obligation to support the “inevitable” “electable” Romney by Republicans who are either willing to settle, or else who desperately want to protect the DC status quo — my plan is to turn the tables on these “pragmatic” and “sophisticated” GOP voters and ask them why on earth I, as a classical liberal / legal conservative, would pull the lever for a progressive who quite evidently believes in government solutions to problems that are themselves already largely caused by governmental intrusion into the lives of individuals?

Romney has learned to mouth bits and pieces from the Declaration and the Constitution. But that’s all for show. As is, I’m coming to believe, the conservative platform of the Republican Party.’

With our country going downhill so incredibly fast, why are 14 Senators concerned about funding amoung two non-profit charities?

Don’t our elected officials have something better to do that meddle in the affairs of two non profits over $680,000?

Maybe Congress could start working on a budget since its 1000 days overdue… or finish staffing the FEC since it only has one member and voter fraud seems to be at an all time high..

  • She’s right – but not in the way she means. It is McCarthyesque how the foundation was forced to restart donations to a private party by leftist pressure.
