Outrageous… Harry Reid Says Republicans Want to Put “Arsenic and Mercury” in the Water (Video)

Disgusting. Harry Reid is at it again.
The Majority Leader said yesterday Republicans want to put “arsenic and mercury” into the nation’s water.

This comes two weeks after calling for “common ground.”
Now Reid is claiming that Republicans want to put “arsenic and mercury” in the water.

Wasn’t that the first thing Bush had to deal with? Clinton signed an executive order on arsenic in water his last day. Bush rescinded it and the MSM went ape over Bush putting all this poison in our water, even though nothing had changed. And then Obama didn’t reinstate that arsenic water standard either. Therefore, we all died from Obama also poisoning our water too, so… it’s no big deal then. We’re all thrice dead.

Why Don’t We All Just Cut the Crap Right Now

    by Michael Moore
    May 1, 2001

[Well, 101 days into the Junta and the fear mongers are having a heyday, aren’t they? Even good liberals and Democrats have joined in the mantra. To listen to them, you’d think George W. Bush had opened the gates of hell and unleashed the legions of Satan upon the American people.

These good people actually believe Junior has put the arsenic back in the water, given the go-ahead to spew massive CO2 emissions into the air, torn up our national forests, and raped the Alaskan wilderness. With all the fury that has been whipped up, I’m sure any minute we’ll also hear that Baby Face Bush recently held up a 7-11 in Denver, and now plans to release bubonic plague into the atmosphere over Ohio.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s no doubt that this illegal squatter in the Oval Office is not to be trusted farther than you can throw Katherine Harris. But, please, let’s cut the crap and tell the truth: George W. Bush has done little more than CONTINUE the policies of the last eight years of the Clinton/Gore administration. As hard as that is for many to swallow, that is the truth — and the sooner you stop the scare campaign, the sooner we’ll be able to fight Bush in a way that will stop him for good.

For eight long years, Clinton/Gore resisted all efforts and recommendations to reduce the carbon dioxide in the air and the arsenic in the water. Just last October, Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle and sixteen other Democrats successfully led the way to STOP any reduction of arsenic in the water. Why? Because Clinton and the Democrats were beholden to the very industries who had financed their campaigns — and who were responsible for high levels of arsenic in the water.]

I kind of like the way the Poms conduct their assemblies. It’s possible to hear the loud and sometimes raucous disapproval when someone says something outrageous.

To hear absolute silence when some idiot Democrat starts to spout BS is rather unsettling. It’s as if the Republicans lack spines…or something.

  • Finncrisp

Harry, as the official spoksperson of the party of “dead babies”, Aka Demomarxist party, is one sorry individual. Guys like this give Mormons a bad name. He’s no family man, no white shirt and tie door to door man. Who is this guy?

  • karen

They’ve already poisoned us with their fluoride lie, so what’s a little mercury and arsenic?

  • Mercury? As in those millions of used CFL light bulbs in landfills that are leaching into the water? Oh, that mercury, something the Democrats wanted.

  • WillofLa

Typical for Socialists who continue to tell the ignorant public what they want them to believe, that only Republican’s will put poison’s into the water.

Who was it who decided to put industrial waste floride into the water system? Who is it who controls the water systems in the country and have for decades? It’s not us who have bled the country dry of resources and has destroyed thousands of businesses and millions of jobs lost because of environmental regulations about water purity. It’s been Democrats who are doing the bidding of environmentalist special interest groups instead of the people.

The only reason why the Socialists and Communists have monkeyed with the water is to make everyone dumb, and so dumb that we wouldn’t know what the liberals in the government were doing to us, and we’d be so dumb that we wouldn’t know what to do about it. Floride was the perfect choice because they could always say it was put into the water to prevent tooth decay. Really?

Now that they have found out that industrial waste floride was causing bone degeneration and tooth embrittlement, and to try to quietly counter the deteriative affect on those kinds of chemicals in our water system, the government has ordered calsium to be put into everything that is either eaten or taken by mouth, or put into the mouth like tooth paste. Why else does anyone think all of a sudden we see calsium being put in everything? Why would there need to be calsium put or doubled up, tripled up in contents in packaged food products, drinking water, and everything conceivable taken into the body of a human being.

Other than arsenic and mercury, there has always been arcenic and mercury in the water. The government even allows some quantity of arcenic and mercury in the water in certain amounts. It’s regulated by the government. So what the hell is Reid babbling about?

  • Valerie

This is all about Harry Reid failing to get his own personal addition to an unrelated law passed, with no real discussion, and no controversy driving it. Most of the references to arsenic levels in water go back to 2001.

According to the EPA website, the current EPA standard for arsenic in drinking water is 10ppb (ten parts per billion), that is, the Maximum Contaminant Level in parts per million (ppm) MCL = 0.010 ppm

Areas with higher levels of arsenic have it because it is a naturally occurring mineral in deep rock formations. Pollutions from human activity, which is found in surfaces waters, is insignificant. The systems in the US that have detectable levels of arsenic usually show 2-8 ppb.

The standard was recently lowered from 50ppb.

The site is out of date. The current standard was lowered by the Clinton administration from 50 to 10 in the last minutes of its administration, and the Bush administration had the rescinded, to some howling.

It hasn’t been an issue since then, except that Harry Reid apparently decided to stick a reduction in the arsenic levels onto an unrelated bill, and it didn’t get passed.

Nobody, but nobody, is asking to ADD arsenic to any US water supply. 50 ppb is half a part per million.

  • waicool

the amount of mercury that will leach into our water supplies due to the enviro-wacko light bulb legislation will be mind numbing. give it 20 years and wait for the media and the socialist democrats to blame republicans. ha ha, what a joke. the democrats have no credibility with free thinking Americans. The socialist democrats can only draw strength from the misinformed masses. Sad thing is, the democrat party intentionally dumbs down its constituency to keep them under their tax sucking power. you’re getting sleepy, very sleepy…….

Attaching unrelated things to bills in an attempt to get them passed, regardless of who does it, is BS. If these a-holes want to pass legislation, sell it on its own merits instead of trying to sneak it by.

Personally, I’d prefer that the time spent in Washington by these Congresscritters be shortened drastically so that they can stop trying to criminalize everything in sight. They are, after all, lawmakers, and the more laws they make the more laws that we are in danger of running afoul of in our daily lives.

The seed emergency: The threat to food and democracy

[The seed is the first link in the food chain – and seed sovereignty is the foundation of food sovereignty. If farmers do not have their own seeds or access to open pollinated varieties that they can save, improve and exchange, they have no seed sovereignty – and consequently no food sovereignty.

The deepening agrarian and food crisis has its roots in changes in the seed supply system, and the erosion of seed diversity and seed sovereignty.

Seed sovereignty includes the farmer’s rights to save, breed and exchange seeds, to have access to diverse open source seeds which can be saved – and which are not patented, genetically modified, owned or controlled by emerging seed giants. It is based on reclaiming seeds and biodiversity as commons and public good.
    Farmer suicides spike in India

The past twenty years have seen a very rapid erosion of seed diversity and seed sovereignty, and the concentration of the control over seeds by a very small number of giant corporations. In 1995, when the UN organised the Plant Genetic Resources Conference in Leipzig, it was reported that 75 per cent of all agricultural biodiversity had disappeared because of the introduction of “modern” varieties, which are always cultivated as monocultures. Since then, the erosion has accelerated.

The introduction of the Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights Agreement of the World Trade Organisation has accelerated the spread of genetically engineered seeds – which can be patented – and for which royalties can be collected. Navdanya was started in response to the introduction of these patents on seeds in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade – a forerunner to the WTO – about which a Monsanto representative later stated: “In drafting these agreements, we were the patient, diagnostician [and] physician all in one.” Corporations defined a problem – and for them the problem was farmers saving seeds. They offered a solution, and the solution was to make it illegal for farmers to save seed – by introducing patents and intellectual property rights [PDF] on those very seeds. As a result, acreage under GM corn, soya, canola, cotton has increased dramatically.]

[Experts, scientists and advocates from around the world petitioned
the U.S. Senate today in a concerted attempt to strip what they term
a “stealth corporate giveaway” embedded in a foreign aid bill which is
expected to hit the Senate floor soon. The “Global Food Security Act”
(S.384), sponsored by Senators Casey (D-PA) and Lugar (R-IN), is
intended to reform aid programs to focus on longer-term agricultural
development, and restructure aid agencies to better respond to crises.
While lauding the bill’s intentions, the petitioners object to a clause
earmarking one agricultural technology (genetically modified – GM crops)
for potentially billions of dollars in federal funding. $7.7 billion in U.S.
funds are associated with the bill and no other farming methods or
    technologies are mentioned.

Monsanto has lobbied more than any other interest in support of this
bill. The company is one of two or three dominant corporations in the
increasingly concentrated biotechnology industry likely to benefit from
the new research funding stream as well as from future profits from
their patented products (both seeds and pesticides).

Why the GOP will lose another Presidential Election

[The GOP will lose this Presidential election for all the above reasons
and because they will continue to make bad choices with the Vice-
President nomination. I am already hearing rumors that Mitt Romney
has spoken with Meg Whitman for this position, who, regardless of
the amount of money poured into her California Governor’s race, lost

When is the GOP going to wake up to the fact that there are just
some candidates that can never win no matter how much money
they have? For that matter, when are both Party’s going to realize
this? Money does not mean success in politics today. It may have
been true in the past, but the electorate is awake, educated, and
    uninterested in the overused re-runs.

No matter what Party the people belong to, they are not willing
to stand idly or silently by while the powers that be decide what
candidate is best for them. Nor are they willing to stand by while
the Party foists candidates upon them that have instituted policies
not consistent with our values, heritage, and traditions. No more
taking away the precious freedoms from our hands and giving them
to greedy politicians who think they are above the natural law or
    “We The People”.

The GOP will go down faster than the Olympic
Schuss if they don’t wake up and wise up!]
