Cardinal George from Chicago warned this week that there may be no Catholic hospitals left in two years due to the Democrat’s HHS mandate that forces religions to
The Catholic New World reported, via Catholic Culture:

Warning that the Church is being “despoiled of her institutions” as “freedom of conscience and of religion become a memory from a happier past,” Cardinal Francis George of Chicago observes that “the Catholic Church in the United States is being told she must ‘give up’ her health care institutions, her universities and many of her social service organizations.”

“So far in American history, our government has respected the freedom of individual conscience and of institutional integrity for all the many religious groups that shape our society,” he continues. “The government has not compelled them to perform or pay for what their faith tells them is immoral. That’s what we’ve meant by freedom of religion. That’s what we had believed was protected by the U.S. Constitution. Maybe we were foolish to believe so.” …

…What will happen if the HHS regulations are not rescinded? A Catholic institution, so far as I can see right now, will have one of four choices: 1) secularize itself, breaking its connection to the Church, her moral and social teachings and the oversight of its ministry by the local bishop. This is a form of theft. It means the Church will not be permitted to have an institutional voice in public life. 2) Pay exorbitant annual fines to avoid paying for insurance policies that cover abortifacient drugs, artificial contraception and sterilization. This is not economically sustainable. 3) Sell the institution to a non-Catholic group or to a local government. 4) Close down …

Freedom of worship was guaranteed in the Constitution of the former Soviet Union. You could go to church, if you could find one. The church, however, could do nothing except conduct religious rites in places of worship-no schools, religious publications, health care institutions, organized charity, ministry for justice and the works of mercy that flow naturally from a living faith. All of these were co-opted by the government. We fought a long cold war to defeat that vision of society.

The strangest accusation in this manipulated public discussion has the bishops not respecting the separation between church and state. The bishops would love to have the separation between church and state we thought we enjoyed just a few months ago, when we were free to run Catholic institutions in conformity with the demands of the Catholic faith, when the government couldn’t tell us which of our ministries are Catholic and which not, when the law protected rather than crushed conscience. The state is making itself into a church.

“If you haven’t already purchased the Archdiocesan Directory for 2012, I would suggest you get one as a souvenir,” he continued.

  1. Freedom of religion in America was to protect the people of religion from the government – now more than ever, the people of religion need protection from the muslim-in-chief. Is it any wonder, Obama strikes at the Catholic Church. It was the Roman Catholic Crusades that challenged and defeated the Muslim instigated crusades against everyone not muslim.

  2. The America I grew up is no more, and never will be the same no matter how this pans out. Even if the HHS Mandate is rolled back, and ObamaCare is repealed, the slow creep of Socialism continues apace because people are being propagandized daily to accept it.

Want to disagree? For instance: why even for many conservatives is talking about repealing/restructuring SS a no-no and considered political death?

  3. It is pretty hard to turn America into an Islamic country, when you have the Catholic religion with such a strong foothold in the U.S. in so many aspects of the lives of Americans.

  4. On second thought let’s just shut down all the “catholic” charities who take money from the feds. And then compare who well the “poor” have been served by the evil Catholics versus the O govt. O is going to be re-elected since Hillary said so and don’t bother with elections or Dole 2.0 aka Richie Rich or Mittens. Govt is so much better in providing and delivering services than the evil Cahtolics.

  5. He most certainly did. This will be an election issue and a referendum on Obama and his persistent and interfering on our faith and freedom. Stomping on the Constitution and our rights as individuals under the #1 law of our nation.

If we are not to live by our faith and Obama believes, he who sat in a Radical church, can dictate our faith then we are done.

Our faith is coming to question? 97% of journalists are pro-choice. Churches are fighting for what the believe in because of Obama? Time for action and time to send a clear message.

Obama nor anyone will try to take God out of our life. They are fighting hard we must fight even harder. I regret that Obama has created this problem, a President of America?

“One of the factors that changes what you can and can’t communicate is relationships. There are sensitive areas that one does not touch until there is a strong personal relationship based on common involvements. Otherwise the other party turns off and literally does not hear….

“Conversely, if you have a good relationship, he is very receptive…. For example, I have always believed that birth control and abortion are personal rights to be exercised by the individual. If, in my early days when I organized… neighborhood in Chicago, which was 95 per cent Roman Catholic, I had tried to communicate this, even through the experience of the residents, whose economic plight was aggravated by large families, that would have been the end of my relationship with the community. That instant I would have been stamped as an enemy of the church and all communication would have ceased.

“Some years later, after establishing solid relationships, I was free to talk about anything…. By then the argument was no longer limited to such questions as, ‘How much longer do you think the Catholic Church can hang on to this archaic notion and still survive?’ …the subject and nature of the discussion would have been unthinkable without that solid relationship.”

Rules for Radical. They love to create Chaos.

It doesn’t take much at all, just a couple of court cases to set precedent.

Judge rules in favor of Muslim attacker in Pennsylvania

Basically, an atheist pretending to be Zombie Muhammad in a parade was attacked while marching by a Muslim man who took offense to his portrayal of Muhammad. They called the police thus and it went to court. But surprisingly, the district judge (reported to be a Muslim himself) ruled in favor of the attacker, dismissing the charges while not even reviewing the video, but lecturing and scolding the atheist on his offense to Islam.

Do you have any actual proof for your anti-religion ranting, or are you just off your meds? Government efficient?!? HA!

  8. #7 – Even to add to the insanity, the judge was a muslim himself and was utilizing Sharia Laws in an American Court. This judge does it because he can.

    Population Control

    Sunstein.

The pro-life group Eagle Forum also released analysis of Sunstein’s positions and determined that he regards euthanasia as a major component of health care legislation and supports loosening regulations on organ donation.

In the article WND covered, Eagle Forum notes Sunstein advocates for government bureaucracy to rely on the “value of a statistical life year” when doing cost-benefit analysis as opposed to the “value of a statistical life.” That would lead to health care decisions involving rationing and euthanasia.

He states that this would “likely result in significantly lower [health] benefits calculations for elderly people, and significantly higher benefits calculations for children.”

He states: “I urge that the government should indeed focus on life-years rather than lives. A program that saves young people produces more welfare than one that saves old people.”

The group concludes, “Sunstein’s views on cost-effectiveness analysis is worrisome at best, especially since as head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, he will play a major role in defining the government’s handling of health care.”

‘He will be just one major player in the massive bureaucracy needed to regulate the very loosely-defined H.R. 3200, Obama’s proposed health care plan,” it says.

  10. #8 – I’m pretty sure #5 is being facetious or sarcastic.

  11. Mittens as the R nominee is a national loser and I hope those who are voting in the R prem’s understand what they are voting for namely a Dole loser. Very disppointed about AZ Gov endorsement and wonder what she got paid off from Mittens to endorse him. He is not electable and never will be. If you want O for another 5 years then vote for Mittens.

  12. And remember if he thinks he can get by doing this. Wait! Gun Control and more kids having the lunch Mommy packed being taken away from them. The child will be ridicule or very embarrassed. Seriously, just think of this child.

Government control of guns, faith and everything our child eats.

  13. Count down to the next anti-catholic pro-Mitt post : three….two…one….

So really it won’t be hard to Islamisize and/or Socialize the US, it is already happening. Remember many Catholics, including priests, supported this president until this HHS mandate became public knowledge. They were FOR larger government, for other people, until they were targeted.

This situation is a bad replay of nearly every emerging dictatorship in history, especially the 20th century.

  15. For Obama it is always about the end result, and yes, Catholic institutions and churches closing their doors would be the result Obama would be looking for. With islam there is no other religion tolerated. Socialists always want to rid a nation of the belief in God, because people who believe in God have no fear to fight for the death for their beliefs; whereas, what an atheist has on this earth is all they can hope for. The nazis aligned with islamic leaders in WWII and the socialists have again aligned with islamics to target Christians and Jews. The humourous part is that socialists and islamists both think they will be the ones to the rule the roost in the end.

The school shooting today will be yet another excuse for demanding more stringent gun control; won’t matter one whit that more than likely the shooter obtains his weapon(s) illegally. Gun free zones only makes for more victims, they don’t stop criminals.

  17. From an email………….

Please take 10 minutes to listen to this homily given two weeks ago by Fr. Sam Maletta from St. John the Evangelist Parish in St. John, Indiana. It hits right at the core of what the HHS mandate means for the Catholic Church in our country. I pray that every Catholic in our nation will be able to hear his words.
    Peace.

  18. One thing constantly being ignored in this HHS Mandate kerfuffle is that no matter how it plays out, Muslims will be exempt from ObamaCare entirely because they are religiously exempt from purchasing insurance. They consider it a form of gambling.

  19. #15 – if you’ve ever watched the videos by the Russian defector who explains how communism takes over a nation, he states that it isn’t until the boot is on its supporters backsides before they realize that they too are expendable and realize what is actually going on. Sometimes it takes a while for people to clue in, but the important part is they clue in before it is too late. Perhaps Obama thought the Catholic establishment was going to lay down and take it. We will see who gets their way.
