In case you haven’t noticed – the Republican establishment and east coast Mittwits have declared war on torchbearer Newt Gingrich.
Dammit Republicans… Do what you’re told! Get in line and back the RINO!

Ann Coulter loses her conservative street cred by pushing Reagan-basher Mitt Romney, of Romneycare fame, as the true conservative in the GOP race while bombing Newt.
Really Ann?… Really?
The Politico is tracking the war on Newt.
Newt Gingrich better hope voters who lapped up his delicious hits on the “elite media” and liberals don’t read the Drudge Report this morning.
Or the National Review. Or the American Spectator. Or Ann Coulter.

If they do, Gingrich comes off looking like a dangerous, anti-Reagan, Clintonian fraud. It’s as if the conservative media over the past 24 hours decided Gingrich is for real, and they need to come clean about the man they really know before it’s too late. This is just a sampling of what’s hitting Newt:
• The overnight Drudge Report banner: “Insider: Gingrich repeatedly Insulted Reagan.” The headline linked to a devastating takedown by Elliott Abrams in the National Review, who wrote, among other things, that Gingrich had a long record of criticizing and undermining Reagan’s most transformative policies.
• Drudge also linked prominently to the American Spectator’s R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.’s similarly harsh takedown of Gingrich over character: “William Jefferson Gingrich.” In it, Tyrrell writes: “Newt and Bill are 1960s generation narcissists, and they share the same problems: waywardness and deviancy. Newt, like Bill, has a proclivity for girl hopping… His public record is already besmeared with tawdry divorces, and there are private encounters with the fair sex that doubtless will come out.”
Drudge runs hundreds of links to stories of all stripes about candidates, but has been seen by Republicans as favorable to Romney in the past.
• Bob Dole issued a scathing statement Thursday that the Romney campaign provided to the National Review in which he said “it is now time” to rally to stop Gingrich, blamed the former Speaker for losing House Republican seats in 1996, and warned that it could happen again, at all levels of government.
Fortunately Rush Limbaugh has not lost his mind.
The conservative stalwart led off with this segment today.
“Coordinated Avalanche Against Newt Doesn’t Match My Memory of Reagan Years”
This is getting really ugly. It’s unfortunate that our Republican brethren have to wage a shoddy smear campaign on Newt in order to slow his surge.

Drudge is also touting an edited video clip claiming Newt bashes Reagan-completely and shamelessly out of context. It is rapdily becoming the 6 figure Cocktail party circuit RINOS vs. the rest of us.

I heard Rush say today this is one fabricated lie.
Molon Labe commented:
As goes Dole so goes McCain and Romney.
RINOs to the left of me, RINOs to the right of me,
brayed and whined….
Patty commented:
If Coulter is leading the charge, please ignore her, she and the other RINOS are as bad as the left wingnuts. This is so disgraceful that these people can call themselves anything really.
They are fighting the Party and the fight is with Obama and Gingrich has the experience and has been around to know how Washington has worked and now how it isn’t working.
Metalhead commented:
Dole? Seriously? Didn’t he lose his runs for the WH when it was “his turn”? Liddy would have been a better choice.
Observer commented:
Never seen anything like this. Unprecedented. Fall in Line indeed. While I am no fan of Newt, I hope this backfires

Americans are – or should be – completely fed up with the idiots at the top of either party telling us what to do! I do think that each and every one of us has a mind as well as has the capacity to decide for ourselves what is or is not best for us and the country or in a presidential candidate. All the crap is piled higher & deeper by the PhD’s in Washington. As far as I am concerned this is nothing but the “betters” telling us “lessers” what to do. The conservative elite are no better than the leftist elite – they all want is for the Tea Party and the rest of the “uninformed” to shut up and go away so we can be told how to think. I hope they all rot in Hades – I am not stupid!
Jim Hoft commented:
Thank you for the terrific comments. This is very upsetting. At least they could present some solid arguments but they really don’t have anything of substance. It’s like we’re watching a bunch of crazy libs.
MJ commented:
These people are HARD AT WORK trying to get Obama in another term.
If there is ANYTHING that the GOP, or Conservatives should be doing is building each candidate up, not tearing them down. Ditto for R. Paul, even though his followers are NUTS.
Coulter is a RINO and got called one on Red Eye the other night, and nearly went into a feminazi hissy fit.
If anyone is putting Obama back in, it is these gasbags.
Motto;
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA, 2012.
Zelsdorf Ragshaft III commented:
I seem to recall during the campaign of 1980 the establishment GOP said the same things about Reagan. He was unstable, he could not beat Carter, etc, etc. I predict the same thing. Gingrich will win the nomination. He will do like Reagan and connect with the voters of both parties. Those who value America and he will clean house on Obama.
Blacque Jacques Shellacque commented:
Ain’t this just something?
Someone who can certainly be considered a conservative appears to be causing a very bright light to illuminate the phonies.
StrangernFiction commented:
Good to see Bob Dole on board the Romney train.

Either the Romney campaign is too slow to respond to news developments, or has adopted the strategy of the Big Lie.
http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/01/mitt-romney-shameless-use-of-nancy-pelosi/
Nancy Pelosi backed down from her silly statement about Gingrich after Gingrich invited her to say whatever she thought she had on him. So, Pelosi backs down, and Romney forges ahead.
We all know that Romney repeated his verbal attacks about Newt’s alleged ethics violations, even after it turned out that Newt had been cleared.
http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/01/romneys-claims-about-newts-ethics-charge-are-false-and-misleading/
Frankly, I don’t care which explanation is true. Mitt Romney owes Newt Gingrich an apology with suitable groveling, and if he doesn’t proffer it, he is going to set both himself and the Republican Party up for a justifiable loss.
Ripped commented:
Just remember Newt is a liberal con man. People need to get past his speeches and look at his ACTUAL RECORD. Since the 1980s Newt has been nothing but a Big Government Statist. He’s supported every hair brain scheme the far left has cooked up.
As of May THIS YEAR, Newt was supporting GOVERNMENT MANDATED health care insurance. He’s supported cap and tax, He supported a cap-and-trade program to limit carbon emissions and then later testified against it before a Congressional committee. Amnesty for illegals, and “green jobs” programs like Solyndra.
As a lobbyist, I mean “consultant”, Newt has shilled for Freddie Mac, at the very time Republicans were trying to reform both Fannie and Freddie. Newt was paid handsomely (more than $1.6 million over eight years.) to stop them. He’s also an ethanol whore, having gotten nearly a million bucks to shill for them, like he just did in Iowa.
Also remember Newt is corrupt. People forget he was the ONLY Speaker of the House in the 222 year history of the House of Representatives to be officially disciplined for ethics violations.
Newt is a disaster and would be the worst possible choice.
That a single human being supports this liberal con man is a national tragedy.
listingstarboard commented:
Did Drudge sensationalise the Romney lie where he claimed he created 100,000 jobs when in 1994 the figure was 10,000?
StrangernFiction commented:
It’s like we’re watching a bunch of crazy libs.
There may be a real good explanation for that.
Mahdi Al-Dajjal commented:
Three words the RINO establishment fear the most? THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE. And if they force Mitt Romney down our throats in a scorched earth war against “their annointed” candidate, then it’s time for Conservatives to abandon the Republican Party… and I mean abandon it for good.
And all their crying and sobbing afterwards won’t bring us back into their tent. We’ve been double-crossed by these same people far too many times. These are the same people that gave us Bush I (who gave us Clinton), Bob Dole (who gave us Clinton), Bush II & John McLame (who gave us Barack Obama) and Boehner & Cantor (who raised the debt ceiling by a few trillion in exchange for a bogus committee that was guaranteed to do absolutely nothing), and all the way straight down the line.
They’ve fought against their OWN Tea Party members who gave them back control of the House, for goodness sake!
And we’re suppose to believe them when they tell us that Romney (who at one point in his political career was left of Ted Kennedy) is really going to take care of our best interests and start governing like a true fiscal conservative when he’s never done so in the past? I don’t think this marriage between the RINOs and the Tea Party Fiscal Conservatives is working out.
exceller commented:
It only enhances my support of Newt to see him being bashed on all sides. He must be the right guy if everyone hates him. If nominated Romney’s name will join this list;
Gerald Ford, Bob Dole, John McCain, Mitt Romney.
Squishy moderate Republicans who wanted to reach out to the left and the media and to “independents”, only to end up losing.
Mahdi Al-Dajjal commented:
I meant “a scorched earth war against Gingrich”…
Apologies for the confusion.
