Sarah Palin told Judge Jeanine Pirro tonight that Newt Gingrich is the best Republican candidate who can articulate solutions the best.
“Newt Gingrich would clobber Obama.”

Newt is for amnesty. I am voting Romney.
Aaron Z. commented:
Well, the problem is that Newt wasn’t able to turn aside Wolf Blitzer the way he did John King. Blitzer hung in there, forcing Gingrich to repeat what he’d said about Romney in his ads, and Romney gave his strongest answer yet on the subject of defending capitalism. Newt ended up just standing there in silence.
Obama will only agree to two debates, maximum, and all the moderators will be running interference for him. The debates will be rigged to make the Republican look angry, crazy, racist, etc. The chastising of the mainstream media worked for Newt in South Carolina, but it won’t play in a general election because two-thirds of the country are liberal or moderate.
I know Rush says that every time we run a moderate like Dole or McCain, we lose, but remember that when Dole ran, Perot was there to split the anti-Clinton vote, and Obama was–in Joe Biden’s words–”the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” Way too many Americans voted for Obama as an act of racial charity and atonement, and besides, the country was sick of Bush and thought Obama would change everything. McCain probably couldn’t have won no matter what he did. And although I support Palin, her negatives were already sky high after the press got done with her.
In November, none of that will apply. We’ve already sacrificed decades’ worth of wealth to atone for slavery, and what we got for it is a nasty, condescending, incompetent president who takes our money and stuffs it into the pockets of his cronies while lecturing us about how we’re just so disappointing to him.
Obama can be beaten in 2012, but currently the polls show Obama beating Gingrich by about 20 points. Gingrich’s entire political career, right up to his current campaign, is erratic and inconsistent. Sometimes he’s great, and sometimes he’s awful.
It’s not guaranteed that he would “clobber” Obama in the debates, and even if he did, it’s not a sure thing that it would mean victory. The GOP nominee is going to face incredible odds, because the media will pull out all the stops to save their Precious.
It’s not clear that Newt is up to the job. He’s had to withdraw or disavow several political ads, which is not a good sign. He needs to appeal to a broad mass of people, not just conservatives, to get elected.
Estragon commented:
Besides the debates where Newt was able to score an early goal with taking down the questioners, there has been nothing that would indicate he would “mop the floor with Obama” at all.
I don’t know what Sarah Palin or the rest of the Newt fans were doing from the late ’90s to say, 2009 when he finally abandoned support for the individual health care mandate, 2010 when he savaged conservatives who backed Doug Hoffman in NY-23 right up until the day his beloved Dede endorsed the Democrat, or last May when he called the Ryan budget plan “right wing social engineering, or even this month when he attacked capitalism for personal political gain, but I’ve been watching him.
His dagger is crusted thick with blood from the backs of conservatives.
We kicked him out as Speaker for good reasons. Learn them – faster, please.
Andrew X commented:
Hell, Palin would clobber Obama, and woulda paid dearly to see that!
One point that has been made that needs to be repeated is that Obama might agree to two debates, just because he pretty much has to (though maybe even not). Quite frankly, let’s not overstate the impact of “clobbering” Obama in a debate or two. Yes, it would happen and would be fun to see, but I don’t think it is wise to nominate a candidate on that alone. It’s like a football team with a stellar Quarterback/Wide Receiver tandem. It may get you to the playoffs, but if the entire defense sucks, that’s gonna be all she wrote.
I admire Gingrich’s mind in a lot of ways, but he lost a lot of me with this moon base nonsense. It’s a perfect example of a brilliant but totally undisciplined mind. Not only can we not begin to afford it (a fundamental part of his entire philosophy), but it is totally the wrong time to even be talking about such things. (Not to mention that the primary impediment to going to Mars, other than finances, is not technological, but is human physiology. Once man gets there, he will likely be unable to walk, and then will have the whole trip home still. We have not even begun to adress that, and, right now, even thinking about it is akin to buying rare model trains for thousands of dollars while the house is being foreclosed.) Newt just has too many negatives among the millions who do not read Gateway Pundit and the like.
I am flat out miserable with the GOP line-up. All our best are on the bench, and I just don’t know where to go with that.
Weeee….. Romney. Yay.
Whatever.
FurryGuy commented:
Yeah, the GOP Elites bleated loudly because Newt was about to upset their “go along to get along” applecart, so the Beltway Insiders did every Democrat-inspired dirty trick it took to get rid of him.
Is Newt perfect? Hardly, but then no one is perfect. Even Reagan had his failings.
Mark Adams commented:
Of course he would mop the floor with Obama. None of the other candidates have that ability. Romney stumbles over himself (and lies) Santorum can do well but not as much passion. Paul… Forget about it!
Molon Labe commented:
My dog could beat Obama in a debate. He has at least twice the intelligence of McCain. But Obama would lose to Newt clearly. Because prior to the debate Obama would have Newt lobotimized and then to insure he had a fighting chance he make sure he had forty teleprompters.
Then he’d make sure the debate was moderated by Ripper.
But Newt would still beat Obama. Because the second Obama would open his mouth his wife Mooochelle Wookie would scream out he husband made her proud to be an American.
Hopeful commented:
#5– excellent points.
I’m tired of La Palin. She’s just getting stale, looks stale, is exaggerating stupidly with her talk of “Cannibalism”. Who died and made her the judge of everything?
For heavens sake, lady, just shut up.
As for Newt– I loved him in the ’80′s when he was a backbencher giving talks on C-span late at night. In the 90′s he made blunder after blunder. Some of them as stupid and petty as complaining he had to get off the back door of Air-Force one instead of the front one used by the President.
He talks too fast and too often without thinking. He’s impulsive. He just doesn’t know how or when to keep his mouth shut. That stupid blabber about populating the moon in his second term is a good example. It’s too bad when that creates problems for him. But if he is the nominee, just one stupid, petty remark like having to use the back door is all that will stand between us and four more years of the Won.
His negatives are so very high, and he looks angry almost all the time. I don’t see how a man with a frown permanently etched into a face that has a chronic pinched mouth, and who has verbal diarrhea is a good choice. Isn’t it said that the man with the sunniest disposition wins? Newt is the absolute opposite of sunny, in demeanor, in speech and in his habitual facial expressions.
He’s conservative if you overlook his big “ideas” that he throws around seemingly for no other reason than he wants to look smarter than everybody else. When you include these ideas, you really can’t predict what he might do as president.
Finally, Callista! That stiff 1960′s bubble of garish yellow hair! And now we all have had to hear how “artistic” she is! She plays the French Horn! I guess that beats the two bare toned arms we have to hear about now, all right. Gingrich and Callista together are a hostile cartooner’s paradise.
Molon Labe commented:
Its sad to see Americans would forgo space for foodstamps and more crony capitalism. Well as Greece and Italy goes so goes the USA. Romney remains the choice of the mobys, RINOs, and failed Obamaists. Ron Paul has been beamed up to the mothership.
I believe Santorum would mop the floor with the Dear Leader who cannot defend his regime and four year plans.
If Romney trots out I ran the Olympics one more time I’ll just ask if he has ever actually organized and started a business or run one successfully. There is a vast difference between investing in a company and running one.
So in short Romney is a failure.

Hope and Change commented:
I’m so tired of of the mobys and RINOs. They’re stale, redundant, and stupid. Who annointed them?
For heavens sake, RINOs and mobys, just shut up.
As for Romney– He has always been a McCain wannabe, an Obama Lite. AS flip flopper and a loser who decalred himself to be a progressive independent. Fiine let him run as a dhimmie.
The Mobys and RINOs hate Newt and conservatives because he thinks too fast for them and he crushes them in debates withhout thinking or apparent effort. They hate that. He just shuts down his opponents and the MSM. God knows what he’d do to Obama. They really hate him pointing out the possibilities in space exploration because they rather spend trillions on the war and poverty and advocate for free drugs. The fauilures of Obama’s schemes irriatates them no end because they know space has true possibilities rather than their rainbow and unicorn schemes. It’s too bad when that creates problems for the RINOs and Marxists. If he is the nominee, we can count on the same crazed leftists attempting to use the meme that a stupid, petty remark like “57 states, or not being able to visit Vienna because he doesn’t speak Austrian, or seeing a town destroyed by a tornado that killed 10,000 people that never occured” will force him to use the back door or Obama will get four more years.
We can vcount on the Rombots to do this over and over while they discount Romney’s miserable record and countless lies and Kerry like tales.
His negatives are so very high, and he looks angry almost all the time. I don’t see how a man with a frown permanently etched into a face that has a chronic pinched mouth, and who has verbal diarrhea is a good choice. I think the mask slipped a tad here. She wants to win a debate, not an election. nice.
4 more years of Obama would be great for her career… She could whine about the injustice on facebook, etc.. Maybe she hopes to get her own show on Fox? An Obama win could make that happen. While she Knows full well, that even if Obama collapses the entire country, Alaska will be fine on its own. Sarah, how about being out of work for a year and paying $4/gallon gas here in CA? yeah thats right, its been $4 for 3 years now. But not a word from the media. The entire neighborhood seems to be home during the day. Unemployment since Obama seized power has tripled. Obama is a destroyer of nations, a parasite sucking the blood from the honest people of America.
We must win or its over. OVER. Sarah go. to. hell.
Gingrich, really? “Capitalism is evil” Gingrich? A ‘real politik Wilsonian’ Gingrich? Free money from freddy and living off the gov’t cheese for his whole life Gingrich? And Sarah thinks he’s the anti-establishment.. ok.

I agree with you Little O. What have all of these Newt worshippers been drinking? Newt not conservative. He’s undisciplined and frankly unprincipalled. Mitt has him beat there by a ton on those two points even if he has changed a few views from the past. And by the way Mitt could have taken the easy pandering way out last Thursday by promising moon rocks and amnesty for illegal immigrants but he didn’t – while Newt did. Mitt pushed back on pandering and saying we need to obey our laws (and that’s alot more than McCain even did). So who’s going to change Washington? It is quite clear to me.
Rock90210 commented:
And the other , but even more major point – is that no sitting Republican wants Newt on the ticket for fear of losing the House and Senate. So what if Newt can win a debate? Romney can too (and frankly won all the earlier ones here as well). That won’t matter much in the general – it needs to be turned around on Obama. Otherwise they will just run against the crazy Newt.
Mitt has to win to keep the House and retake the Senate. Period. Otherwise we are all toast. I have now lost all respect for Sarah unfortunately.

And I would not be the least suprised if there comes an international consensus that we cannot afford to maintain the International Space Station either. We’ve already blown it on the means to get us there, why not consider that we’ve equally blown our fanincial abilities to keep it. We are one Russian rocket explosion away from possibly having to abandon it….. “temporarily”, of course. Uh huh.
The pains me horribly, I have always thought of myself as a space geek. But this is where our politicians and “ruling elites” have led us.
It’s pathetic.
Mary Sue commented:
I agree 1000% The tug of war is manufactured – albeit somewhat justifiably- by Palin, who somehow sees Gingrich as a flawed proxy for the battle waged against her in 2008. If we are to have that battle, Gingrich is the last person worthy of even the limited benefits such a divisive and self-destructive crusade might bring. I have always defended and respected Palin but I believe her intervention here is misguided.
Extending this grueling primary with these flawed candidates has some benefit in strengthening candidates. It is not worth it, however, if this is going to result in a division that leaves these weak candidates even weaker when one ultimately faces Obama. Palin has done her best though and if Gingrich doesn’t pull out a miracle Tuesday, she ought to leave it alone and let voters decide. Nobody has enough delegates and 1100 needed to win means the contest goes on regardless.

Only Gingrich and Santorum have addressed a looming, imminent, worldwide crisis – the unfettered rise of Islam. Romney skirts around the topic and, IMO, will never tackle it head-on. He most assuredly won’t bring it to the forefront against BHO. Both Gingrich and Santorum would. Since Santorum’s so low in the polls – any poll unless you live in Iowa – that leaves Gingrich to lead the charge. It’s Gingrich who has and will continue to bring the term “Jihad” to the attention of the misinformed general public. In addition to Jihad and sharia, it’s Gingrich who has NO problem discussing BHO’s connection with Alinsky and socialism. It’s Gingrich who’s been putting his head on the block in order to get the bigger message out. He may go down in flames for doing that. If so, I’m going down with him.
As for a Gingrich/West ticket – oh my, dare we dream?? No one can articulate the danger of Islam better than West.

MaxTruth commented:
Palin seems to be the only passionate Republican leader that is fully behind the Tea Party. Why would any Tea Party supporter even consider voting for Mitt Romney? He is against just about everything we believe the government should be – Constitutional, small, nonintrusive, etc. Romney’s view of government is to manage it while we want it taken apart.
Locutisprime commented:
Giving Romney the nomination is insuring that Obama will get another four years. America had better wake up to the party line fix that is in and do something while they can.
RedBeard commented:
The only reason I might vote for Romney is if I come to the conclusion that he is the candidate most likely to beat Obama in November. It certainly wouldn’t be because I agree with him all the time. He’s a classic RINO.
Bottom line, though, is that the worst RINO is to Obama as a serial jaywalker is to a bank robber.

So what if Gingrich can debate? Obama can read a teleprompter. Both are incompetent in leadership and neither can be trusted. Do not let someone tell you their opinion! Do your own research! The powers that be want Gingrich, Romney, Santorum or Obama to get into the White House. All believe Big Government is the answer. It is a fools choice for the American voters. If one of these four win we Americans lose and Government will get bigger.
Most importantly steer clear of the pundits. Find websites that provide accurate information about candidates. Don’t blow your vote by basing it on opinions of others. Base it on facts. Base it on what you would want. Base it on what would be best for your children.
What if there were selections on the ballot that read “Make my selection same as Palin’s” or “Make my selection same as Lady Gaga’s” you certainly would not want to select these choices! Would you? THINK!

It isn’t about whether or not Newt can beat obama in a debate….after all, many voted last time for an orator, a “pop” star…a guy they’d “like to have a beer with.”
This is about honesty, integrity, true conservatism. I don’t want the President to be my friend, I want a strong leader who will fight for freedom and have respect for the Constitution. Newt is none of the above.

When I consider Romney vs Newt I ask myself, since each has held a pubic office, what did they DO when they were held office? Newt Gingrich fought for Conservative principles and Romney voted for Liberal ideas.
I really get angry with Romney when he acts like he has nothing to do with the campaign.
I also take issue that Bain Capital should be a non-issue. While I agree that there are companies that benefited from their intervention there were others that they raided. I recently commented on Sarah Palin’s Facebook Page and got this response that was enlightening to me:
“One company threatened to sue Bain for “unjust enrichment” after Bain took out huge loans in the company’s name and transferred the money to themselves right before the company went bankrupt.
http://www.romneygekko.com/mitt/ ”
I have come to the belief that Mitt Romney will be “Obama Lite”.
I think while it is true that all rich are and corporations are not evil it is also true that all rich people and corporations should be allowed to financially rape and pillage their fellow citizens. We don’t want our government to do that to it’s citizens why is it OK for our citizens to do that to others?

a response to ‘conservative’ pundits, like Ann Coulter’s apoplectic response to Newt’s going Newtclear on King. The very same Ann Coulter who stated at CPAC:
Lone Ranger commented:
The math is inescapable – only 25% of REPUBLICANS will ever/have ever supported Willard Romney. There is no way a candidate with only 25% of the core Republican voters on his side can defeat a Democratic candidate with 100% of the donks voting for him.
We can all hope that the “ABO” – “Anyone But Obama” movement can line up a lot more votes behind an Obama opponent – but this generic support will go to whomever is the opponent. It makes no sense to add this vote to a candidate who inspires – at best – 25% of his own party.
Obama is a miserable excuse for a President – or even for an American – and should have no chance of being reelected. But – he has the entire weight of the fawning main stream media behind him – and sharpening its knives against whoever will ultimately oppose The One.
Newt has all kind of baggage – but he is the only candidate who can perform the necessary on-stage jujitsu to eviscerate the media jackals, and keep a strong message reverberating about the need to “throw the bums out,” and begin turning the Titanic away from the icebergs.
Willard is just a half-ass version of Obama – and the MSM will obliterate him. If you want Obama, you want the whole deal – not a half-ass approximation. If you want Obama GONE, you want a drastic change and redirection – not merely a weaker version of Obama.
Willard is the wrong guy for this election, against this incumbent, in this current media environment. It is that simple. He’s a fairly accomplished leader and businessman, with many admirable qualities. But – in 2012 – his profile is toxic – and hopeless. His supporters need to wake up, and realize that he is the wrong guy for THIS election. ‘Sorry.
Newt has all sorts of barnacles – but he just happens to have the right combination of strengths, in just the right places, to make him a credible and possibly even compelling alternative to Obama. He is a far from ideal candidate – and he may yet implode. But – he is the last, best great hope to unseat the pathetic pretender who now sits in the Oval Office. Romney cannot do it, Paul cannot do it, and Santorum cannot do it – they all have up-side limitations that simply cannot overcome the mathematics of the game. Newt may ultimately have too many negatives to prevail – but he is the only one with a chance.
The general election competition is going to be about Oratory – selling a vision, and poking holes in the competing vision. There is no one – NO ONE – who can shred Obama’s vision, poke holes in Obama’s oratory, and paint a compelling alternative vision as can Newt Gingrich. And – he can do it over the dead bodies of Obama’s MSM enablers.
Newt can also probably attract to government service the best slate of conservative minds to try to reverse the Titanic’s course – think John Bolton, for starters.
In another scenario, against a different opponent, at a different time – Romney would be a good candidate – maybe even a great candidate. But – he would be toast in 2012, against Obama. That’s a fact.
Ron Paul is a rambling character who is dismissed out of hand by the vast majority – notwithstanding his very loyal following among a fixed minority of voters.
Rick Santorum is not yet ready for prime time – he belongs in the 2016 or 2020 race – along with Christie, Rubio, Ryan – maybe Jeb Bush, Bobby Jindal.
Newt is all we have. So – let’s put our full force of support behind him – to obliterate Obama in a massive show of repudiation of his policies.
Wondering commented:
I agree with the thought of a Newt / West ticket. Wow. Newts interview with Greta was excellent. Newt can clobber obama in debates by using facts. The problem is obama, his base and the media don’t care about facts. They distort, lie and character assassinate anyone opposed to their socialist agenda. It gonna be tough.
Ella commented:
As much as I despise the ugly b*st*rd, get ready for another four years of obama. With this type of viciousness and division in our own party it is inevitable. On the other hand, the left very much deserves more obama destruction of their own lives, the terrible thing is we will be along for the ride.
JenBee commented:
The debates against Obama will be very important because it’s likely to be one of the only chances a Conservative will have almost unfettered access to promote Conservative values to all those liberals and moderates who never watch or read the news except for what the mainstream media feeds them, taken from Democratic talking points. Thus it’s imperative we have someone up there who can very clearly articulate the differences between Conservatism and Socialism and state why Conservative values and ideas are better for the middle class individual. Yes, ALL of our candidates are RINO’s, and they all have many cons… so all that considered equal, I’m going for the person who can best define Conservative values to a whole new generation of voters who have been brainwashed to robotically think ‘Republican=Bad’. Newt is the one candidate who can do that, imo.

I am reading the analysis that the housing market is poised for rebound. On what planet? Think a foreclosed man or woman is gonna qualify for a new mortgage even if it’s a downgrade from a $300,000 house to a $70,000 trailer home? The home prices around us have COLLAPSED and NO BUYERS. There are vacant properties all around us … unsold for 4 years.
Can a man or woman owning a $85,000 double wide afford $60,000 to solarize it? We got the estimates just to see what it woudl cost and couldn’t believe it. Think people at $40,00 a year have the money to up front $60,000 and “get it back thru tax credit?” What bank in their right mind is going to approve a $60,000 solar refit on a house worth $85,000?
THat is IF the bank can SELL it at $85,000 in this market? NO, they CAN’T, but the home owners will be PUNISHED for not being “Smart” enough to solarize but being hit with PUNITIVE “necessarily higher electrical rates.” THey are already struggling to meet expenses, higher electrical rates could push them into default. They will sit in cold homes, reduce to a couple of lightbulbs.

And why would you want solar energy fueling your double wide in the first place? It is cost prohibitive to install, has a high risk of damage from Mother Nature herself, and recoupable savings vs. cost can go as high as twenty years, not counting the maintainence/repair costs that will ensue during that time frame. Propane gas, if you do not have accessability to natural gas, is a much better value. Why would anyone want to solarize? It’s inefficient expensive!
THe Democrats are forcing punitive electrical rates on everyone to make solar more “affordable.” Is it going to happen? NO. But there will be a lot of broken eggs along the way to the utopia omelette. The wealthier stroll around intoning their electrical bill is $5 a month – after paying $100,000 to solarize, and how they got all these “tax credits.” But they had the up front cash or financially scure enough to qualify for the bank loan.
You really think I am arguing that I expect that a double-wide owner has “solar” on the top of his list of “to do?” But the reality is the utilities system is being torqued to “encourage” people to go solar by artificially raising the costs of common energy inputs.
That means the upper middle class and rich will retrofit while the middle and lower classes get the higher electrical, oil and propane costs. Is that fair? No one talks about that, but the middle class is already paying higher costs as their once 300,000 house is now $175,00 and till falling.
How are middle class people going to afford these new higher rates on everything, on top of higher vehicle fuel prices, which blows their household budgets, plus makes EVERYTHING more expensive in the supermarket? Do you have any idea how many people are shivering sitting in 50 and 45 F degree houses right now, trying to preserve the cash to pay the mortgage one more month? How many entire towns are not sending any high school grads to college? They don’t qualify for all these LOANS and GRANTS we keep hearing about?
I live in an area that has a high number of tradespeople … they are highly skilled and OUT OF WORK. We bought 3 years ago… every place we saw that had a sign then has been sitting – vacant still today. I expected to see a lot of people downgrade from $400,000 foreclosures to $90,000 doublewides, but the places sit vacant, with weeds… the people cannot get bank loans for the cheap places. Bad credit. People are TRAPPED.
I do not need to read a BOOK about the reality around town. The Washington Beltway ELite is everything of the stereotype: truly truly OUT OF TOUCH. The Upper GOP won’t get it until they get thrown out of their homes…and then it’ll be, “Well, where we you when we asked for help, but you told us we were stupid?”

She constantly bated her, and then tried (emphasis on tried) to make her look stupid for her answer. Like the question on who could beat Obama, when Sarah Palin said that by the numbers, Newt can beat Obama hands down in a debate. She (Jeanine Pirro) smugly said that By the numbers Romney would win. Does Sarah Palin Want Obama Re-elected?
1/28/2012
We certainly live in bizarre times and everyone knows that politics makes for strange bedfellows. But the fact that as of late I (the guy who spent over two years being probably her strongest defender) have been one of the very few on the right pointing out the absurdity and hypocrisy of recent Sarah Palin’s public statements, shows exactly how close we indeed may be to the apocalypse.
Palin’s latest Facebook salvo is targeting the Republican “establishment cannibals” for using “Alinsky” tactics against Newt Gingrich in the run up to the Florida primary. Her main objection appears to be that those who have questioned Gingrich’s ties to Ronald Reagan have done so inappropriately and are effectively doing the work of the left.
The layers of silliness here are at least at multiple as those of snow in the frozen Alaskan icecap this time of year.
First, it was Newt Gingrich who raised the issue, constantly tying himself to Reagan and his accomplishments in almost every other bombastic breath. He made this topic an issue. No one else did that.
Second, those who have questioned whether the facts really back up the impression created by Newt that he is the last remaining heir to Reagan are hardly part of any Republican “establishment.” What the heck is the “Republican Establishment” anyway? Who are these people? Not even specifying who you are talking about makes you seen like a tin foil wearing conspiracy theorist.
So, because a few people who actually knew Reagan (unlike Palin who had barely graduated college by the end of the Gipper’s second term) have written articles which would have been largely ignored if they had not been linked at the Drudge Report, this is some how evidence the work of a dark, shadowy “establishment”?
And how in the world is Matt Drudge (who has always been incredibly kind to Palin) part of any establishment? Anyone who has followed him closely (I used to fill in for him on his old radio show and have studied his tendencies extensively from multiple perspectives) knows he isn’t even a political person. He is a brilliant business man, but his incredibly soft treatment of Obama during the 2008 primaries proves that he really couldn’t care less who wins elections from an ideological perspective.
And what about Drudge’s pal Ann Coulter who has also led the charge to tell the truth about Newt? Calling her part of the Republican Establishment is more hilarious than saying that about Drudge. She has made her very commercial career on being anything but“establishment.”
Palin goes on to defend Newt from the specific (and largely politically insignificant) allegation that he exaggerates his Reagan ties with an “argument” so thin it makes her 2008 attempt to explain her foreign policy credentials seem substantive by comparison.
She says that because Nancy Reagan once, while being extremely polite to Newt who was in attendance, sort of (not really if you look closely at the statement) proclaimed that “Ronnie” passed the “torch” to “Newt” and the other House Republicans who led the 1994 take over, that this is somehow proof that Newt is impervious to criticism here. Then she says that because Reagan’s step-son Michael and biggest fan, Rush Limbaugh, like Newt and condemn these “attacks,” that they must not be true (By the way, aren’t Rush and Drudge also allies? How does this fit into the anti-Newt conspiracy?).
Even more laughable than this intellectual house of cards is how Palin simultaneously suggests that going after Newt like this is inappropriate, but that “vetting” Mitt Romney and his finances for as long as possible is good for the cause of beating Obama. Her “thinking” here is that because Democrats will surely use the issue of his wealth against him if he is the nominee, we need to make sure he can withstand the onslaught.
This might make some sense if Romney hadn’t already addressed the issue as much as he reasonably can and if Newt Gingrich hadn’t single-handedly legitimized this line of attack for the media/left, practically serving it up to them on an envy-plated silver (certainly not gold) platter.
Now, to be fair, if there is a “Republican Establishment,” the former presidential nominees would certainly qualify and John McCain and Bob Dole have certainly been outspoken about the obvious electoral dangers of nominating the clearly unelectable Gingrich. But since when is actual knowledge about how the process works a disqualifier for your opinions?
And wait a minute; I thought Palin said people who knew Reagan should believed, so why are the far more numerous former colleagues (not to mention wives!) of Newt somehow discredited in their observations about him? Then, of course, there is the most obvious flaw in this entire theory: When did “Mr. Establishment” Newt Gingrich suddenly somehow become the anti-establishment candidate?
Palin simply isn’t being consistent in any of this, but it isn’t because she is stupid (as I have always said, she is most certainly not dumb). I believe her motivation is actually far more troubling than that.
There is no way that someone whose biggest issues in this cycle have been: combating “crony capitalism,” promoting “life,” beating Obama and overturning Obamacare, could possibly really favor the guy who got paid $1.6 million by Freddie Mac to be an “historian,” has zero chance to win the election, and had been in favor of a federal healthcare mandate for twenty years, especially when Mr. Pro-life (with a special needs child, no less) Rick Santorum is still viably in the race. It just makes absolutely no sense.
This brings me to my most important and surely controversial point regarding Palin’s latest attempt to endorse Newt without actually saying the magic words.
Could someone please tell me what her personal incentive is for President Obama to be defeated?
I would suggest that there is absolutely none.
If Romney beats Obama she is immediately irrelevant. Her entire purpose at this point is to throw bombs at a liberal President with whom she is obviously linked through her 2008 VP run. Not only would there be no one left in power for her to be the brunette Ann Coulter against, but her chapter of American history also becomes instantly ancient.
Even worse than that, unless she decides to go completely rogue and humiliate herself by being Romney’s primary opponent in 2016, she would have no, even theoretical, next political act until 2020 at the very earliest. That will not be nearly enough to sustain her career as a commentator/speaker/author at anything near its current levels.
So the only logical explanation for Palin’s bizarre “endorsement” of Gingrich is that she knows that he can’t win and that she is using him to create this false narrative of an evil “establishment” keeping the noble Tea Party down (explain to me again how Newt is remotely “Tea Party”?), like they somehow did in those Palin-induced Senate losses in Delaware and Nevada in 2010.
I don’t know if she really thinks Newt can win the nomination (which would obviously help her in both the short and long runs), but she clearly sees no downside to creating as much damage to Romney as possible. This whole effort is nothing more than a branding/career move for Sarah Palin.
At one point she might have deserved the benefit of the doubt that she may just be “misguided,” but her clearly cynical presidential “tease” last year ended any ambiguity about her true motives now.
That is what makes this whole thing so incredibly ironic. In so vehemently questioning the credibility of the “establishment,” she has revealed that she has a massive conflict of interest herself and should no longer be trusted on the issue of this presidential primary.

Frankly, I find your class warfare mantra a big archaic. Talk about dragging the ’60′s back to life. The only thing that prevents you from becoming one of those “elite establishment” you rail on is you own limitations. Run for office if you are so dissatisfied with the current crop you now have. I assume you meet the eligiblity requirements.
You talk about the reduction of value in a home from $300K to $175K. Where? That has happened only in certain areas, most prominently in Loonafornia. And why? ZONING LAWS enacted by local authorities like county commissioners.
Here is what you want to ignore: no one, and I do mean NO ONE, forced people to purchase homes they could not afford. No one held a gun to their head and told them if they didn’t sign on the dotted line, they would be shot. No one forced them to purchase a home that was overvalued by 50%. But money was easy, and people do not want to be held responsible for thier own actions. You, like them, have to find someone to demonize to absolve you from your own decisions.
I have a home that is 107 years old. Weatherizing it was not all that hard, or that expensive. Attic insulation is cheap. Some of the things we did when we remodeled a home that did not even have a central HVAC system were so basic and so easy that it boggles the mind.
Yes, people are out of work, especially in the trades. But I, unlike you, have faith that we will eventually bounce back. This is not the FIRST time that the nation has suffered an economic crisis. But blaming “The Man” is not the answer. If you can’t find a job; create one. Example: I know a guy who worked oil fields and was laid off. He could not find a job, so he created one. He now takes items from those who want to sell them, and puts them on EBay. He takes pictures of the items and lists them on Ebay. He charges 40% of the selling price as commission. And he is now making more money, sitting in the comfort of his own home, than he made busting his butt in the oil fields. And he lives in a town of less than 5,000.
And if you are one of those who have to ask the government for help, instead of relying on your own ingenuity and resourcefulness, well………………………………..

This is your friendly, neighborhood Liberal telling all you Conservatives to take a second look at Newt Gingrich, because if my opinion of him got changed, you have a route to a win in 2012.
When it was a fad to take psychological tests to determine your place in the political spectrum, I tested center, center, center — always. So, I think my experience may be instructive.
When this campaign began, my only recall of Newt was the shutdown, and a surprisingly positive memory of one of his speeches about education. I knew about the ethics charges and resignation, which I tended to discount because even at the time, I recognized them as over-reaching by the Democrats and an act of revenge, not governance. I did not know he had been cleared.
I went back looking for a video and transcript of that education speech because a good friend and politically active friend in California has been telling me that those damn Republicans want to destroy public education in this country. This just isn’t so, and I wanted her to see this speech, to see how close some of Newt’s ideas were to hers.
I used Google. What I found was a morass of deliberately inaccurate commentary about what Newt said, instead of what he actually said. Among the many search terms I used was the name of Rachel Maddow in this connection, because my friend loves Rachel Maddow. It was very easy to see that the source material had been buried under at least two layers of lying commentary: there was an original layer of lying that did NOT link to the source material, and wave after wave of commentary on the commentary, taking it as fact. It took me two days to figure out how to get down to the source videos, before I found these:
Newt Gingrich on Education Reform
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I34twrbPiiI&feature=relmfu
Rev. Al Sharpton on Education Reform

Newt Gingrich is a creative thinker, and willing to turn a problem on it’s side and knock it hard to get a solution. He’s willing to build bridges with people where they agree. He is fair-minded, and intensely interested in, and intent on avoiding, perverse results. He wants what is good for all our children. He is knowledgeable about the system, and it’s flaws and strengths.
I was deeply surprised in further research to find out that this man, whose actions I had previously despised, is in fact the man this country thought it was electing when it put Barack Obama in the office of the Presidency of the US, minus the halo.
You actually have a good potential President, there. All you have to do to place him in that position is to cut through the sh!t.

Yes. Over the past thirty years on home leaves, we drove the USA. In the early 80s, everything was moribund, unemployment was high, all sorts of decay. Over the next twenty years, the Midwest and West and SOuth steadily improved. New roads, new houses, new businesses, old businesses ugraded. VISIBLE improvements. The two most egrecious examples of moribund were upstate New York around Niagra Falls – as wretched as it was in the 1960s and Massachusetts. Massachusetts was not decayed the way Niagra was, but frozen in sameness. The pass the bill to the national taxpayers Big Dig was finishing up, but the state was in stand-still stasis compared to the rest of the country. Boston power is uber centralized, at the expense of the rest of the state.
Romney could have energized the place, but his tenure was indistinguishable from the Democrats. While other states gained people, Massachusetts has been losing population as productive people FLEE. He fit right in there – STATUS QUO.
If Romney had done something exciting in MASS, well then okay. He didn’t. Status quo with a highly socialistic state hasn’t done it any good. It’s still sliding, the state economy shrinking, with invasive social engineering increasing. Look at Mass. They were in recession while the rest of the country was booming and were so self-focused they thought everyone else was in their circumstances. Well, perhaps you can show me in the U.S. Constitution, or even the Federalist Papers, where that mission statement can be found? You can’t, because it is not there. The mission statement was to provide people with the opportunity to get out of squalor by keeping government off their backs. What people chose to do with their abilities is a personal decision. If you want to lay around watching Oprah all day, that is your choice, but don’t ask me to bail you out when you have no grocery money.
“We’ve been across this country, observing and cataloguing this collapse over the last 7 years”
Then provide us with the results of your extensive research. Back up your claims with more than hyperbole.
Self-employed carpenters, well, some of them OWN their homes, some still owe the bank for those homes. Why don’t you present the percentage of homeowners, like me, who own their homes outright, since you have a propensity for rattling off statistics? How many self-employed carpenters do you know that had saved the $300K you claim houses cost prior to the crash of 2008? Surely you have a stat for that as well.
I am sick of people like you who want to blame some phantom entity for their personal problems. And I am sick of people who love to throw out mythical stats for the purpose of nothing more than bloviating.
I could take your entire post, replace “elite/establishment” with “politburo” and it would read much like Rules for Radicals.”

Perhaps Sarah didn’t read Newt’s explanation as to why he did poor in the most recent debate:
Newt stated to reporters he had not fought Mr. Romney harder in the debate because he could not “debate somebody who won’t tell the truth.” (New York Times, Jan 28, 2012: Gingrich Predicts a ‘Wild and Woolly’ Campaign)
Just a quick survey, how many people believe that the majority of what barry will say in any debate (assuming he even agrees to a debate) won’t be lies?
That being said, how can anyone suppose Newt will do any better if, by his own recent statement, he cannot debate those who “won’t tell the truth?”
All he’s got is his speaking ability, and I’ld bet the farm that he will not get the opportunity everyone is expecting.
Which brings up another point: Newt is a very smart fellow. He has to know that barry won’t agree to some Lincoln-Douglas marathon debate. It strikes me as simply pumping the crowds up by being dishonest, knowing full well what you’re proposing will NEVER happen.
Second, he’s the one who, after loosing Iowa, suggested to Perry and Santorum, that they should step down, implying by not doing so they would be aiding Romney. The same article I refer to above quotes Newt as saying he’s taking this all the way to the convention. So I suppose by this statement, he has no intent on considering stepping down irrespective of what happens between now and then. One could fairly ask if he is not aiding Romney with his cause.
Polls show Santorum actually doing better than Newt against barry in a general election (Real Clear Politics, NBC/WSJ).

“Massachusetts has been losing population as productive people flee.”
According to the U.S. Census Bureau:
MA population – 2000 – 6,349,097
Ma population – 2010 – 6,587,536
A ten year increase of 3.75%
But in some people’s minds, that is a net loss.

Your argument is correct. Retarded is lying as usual.
According to the 2010 Census the US population grew by 9.7%.
Massachusetts growth or lack thereof does not show the same growth as the rest of the nation for the same ten year period. Prosperity is reflected in growth.
Subpar growth means what?
Those who deliberitely do not provide complete context do so to advance their distorted agenda.
But those who provide half truths, are just as bad as those who lie.
Pathetic.

No links but the story is found (among other places I’m sure) at The Washington Post (1-22-97). I’ll try to look up other stories on it later.
Here is the truth. He was reprimmanded by a House of Representatives vote of 395-28 on one ethics charge, which he admitted wrong doing. Here is a statement he made in January of 1997:
“I did not manage the effort intensely enough to thoroughly direct or review information being submitted on my behalf. In my name and over my signature, inaccurate, incomplete, and unreliable statements were given to the committee, but I did no intend to mislead the committee.”
He paid $300,000 (he was allowed to pay that out of campaign funds, I think), which was to reimburse the Ethics Panel for expenses incurred while investigating the information provided to them by Gingrich, which was found to be wrong.
The HOR forwarded the original ethics complaint regarding the tax exempt entity in question to the IRS, which in 1999 found him not to be in violation of the complaint sent to them; it did not reverse the other complaint he was reprimmanded for.
retire05 commented:
Melon Lobe, where did I say that the 3.75% growth was national? Oh, that’s right, I didn’t.
So let’s compare: what was the growth rate of other states? Was it equal, or less, than MA? How about California? What was the growth rate there?
“Prosperity is reflected in growth.”
Well, then, that settles it. The example we should be looking toward is Texas.

OH! You like them Governor Quitters a little rough around the edges like Quitter Janet Napolitano who endorses Obama.
DO you realise that if Napolitano had NOT QUIT then this week’s Arizona tarmac kerfluffle never would have happened?
Palin left AK in GOP hands, but (D) Napolitano let (R) Brewer move up to Governor. The Dems figured she’d be a place holder until the general election and they’d plop another DEM in there, but uh OH! They NEVER thought Brewer had the political balls to actually SIGN SB1070, which delivered the election to her for governor.
They told themselves all day long that Brewer is stupid person beneath their intellects. Then she had to go sign the thing, which could EXPOSE their FAST and FURIOUS atrocity operated out of Phoenix.
Democrat PANIC. But it’s always Palin, never Napolitano who left the state in the red, nearly bankrupt and in the opposite party’s hands.
retire05 commented:
wanumba, why do you try to compare apples to oranges? You’re not very good at it.
Napolitano left her office to serve on a federal level. Palin just quit, for one, to take the gig at Fox that Greta van Sustern’s husband negotiated the contract for. And now you’re telling us that Jan Brewer is responsible for the exposure of Fast and Furious? Careful, you are rapidly nearing the “liar” catagory.
And perhaps you can explain how Alaska, under Palin’s leadership, became the biggest leech state in the union? Or the fact that she left office, only to hand it over to a former lobbyist? Oh, you didn’t know that Sean Parnell was a high dollar lobbyist before Palin chose him as a running mate?
