The 18 year-old widow shot the intruder dead when he entered her home.
Sarah Dawn McKinley asked the 911 operator if she could shoot an intruder entering her home. Then she shot Justin Shane Martin dead.
CNN reported:
Home alone with her 3-month-old son, Sarah Dawn McKinley of Blanchard, Oklahoma, said she decided to make a stand when two men tried to break into her home on New Year’s Eve.
McKinley, who had been widowed less than a week before, placed a couch in front of one door and went to the bedroom and put a bottle in her baby’s mouth before calling 911, she said on HLN’s “Dr. Drew” on Wednesday.
A 911 operator calmly spoke with McKinley, who asked if it was permissible to shoot an intruder, officials said.
“I’ve got two guns in my hand. Is it OK to shoot him if he comes in this door?” asked McKinley, 18.
“Well, you have to do whatever you can do to protect yourself,” dispatcher Diane Graham responded. “I can’t tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby.”
In the end, McKinley fired a 12-gauge shotgun and killed Justin Shane Martin after he entered her residence, according to a Blanchard Police Department affidavit filed in court Wednesday. Martin was armed with a knife, authorities said.

Good for this mother, helping rid the country of SCUM! Good thing she doesn’t live in some liberal state, she would be looking jail time for her actions!
Nelle commented:
They may have known her husband died and come to take advantage of the situation. In any case, anyone who breaks and enters risks his life. Sometimes they lose, too bad.

Note that buried deep at the end of the article it states she was on the phone with 911 for 21 Minutes! Where the %&*! were the cops?
JohnRalph commented:
Cops arrived 45 minutes later…with powdered sugar and jelly smeared all over their faces.
Capitalist Infidel commented:
Did anyone notice the look on Stephonopoulus’s face? He absolutely hated reporting this story! If there was any way he could have condemned the woman he would have but even a liberal knows when to keep his mouth shut.
Adi commented:
Sadly, in the next few days she will be assailed by the LSM to abuse her “liberal” mentality and to forcefully extract an admission of guilt for protecting herself and her family.
davidt commented:
She better have a good lawyer.
Restless Legs commented:
Thank you, lawyers and liberals. This is what our country has come to… that a mother would even THINK that she has to get “legal advice” before rightfully defending herself and her children in her own home. This newly widowed woman was probably worried about getting sent away to prison if she shot this guy, and then her kids would be without a mom.
As for the 21 minutes, I’ve been to Blanchard. It’s small and very rural. I’m surprised the police got there that quickly, to be honest. When you live in the country, you understand that emergency officials usually aren’t going to be “just a few minutes away.” I’m just glad the 911 operator gave this woman good advice.
gus commented:
I’m sorry folks. The FACT that this young woman felt she needed to make a phone call, when someone was breaking in to her home, for PERMISSION to blow the motherfockers head off is scary.
He/She who hesitates is lost/dead.
She did the right thing. The guy had a knife, and I don’t think he was there to butter bread.
What if her phone line had been cut.

I doubt she will be charged with anything. At least someone had the good sense to give her a shotgun.

Heh heh. The gun grabbing liberals must absolutely hate this story.
Jerry C commented:
Reminds me of the story of the grandma in Texas who shot a would-be thief 12 times. Asked by the judge why 12 times, grandma replied, “I ran out of bullets.” Case closed. I would call the police AFTER I killed the attackers. Thank God this woman & her baby are still alive.
Opaobie commented:
A similar story…true as far as I know…is about a guy who called the cops to report intruders in his garage. 911 dispatch said it would be 25 minutes before a police car could be dispatched because they were all working “active contacts”…probably sitting in a speed trap trying to catch someone coming home from second shift at midnight doing 32 in a 30 MPH four-lane boulevard to meet their quota. Anyway, he hung up and called back about three minutes later to report that he had just killed four intruders in his garage. Within a minute there were three Black&Whites and a SWAT van at his house. He told them the four intruders were actually just sitting on the floor in the garage with his wife guarding them with a gun.
The head of the SWAT team was livid at the false reporting of shooting them and yelled, “I THOUGHT YOU TOLD THE DISPATCHER YOU HAD SHOT THEM DEAD!!!”
He looked the Cop in the eye, smiled, and said, “I thought your dispatcher said you couldn’t get here in less than 25 minutes.”
Highlander commented:
It really is sad that she had to ASK if it was OK to defend herself. Calling 911 was certainly the right thing to do, but there should never be any doubt in anyone’s mind when it comes to defending themselves. Gun grabbers and their supporters in the media have everyone scared to defend themselves, and that’s simply unacceptable!
Blacque Jacques Shellacque commented:
Good thing she was in a more sane part of the country. Had she done this here in California, being prosecuted for manslaughter or sued by the assailant’s relatives would not be out of the question.
Blacque Jacques Shellacque commented:
Something to point out about this incident:
Twenty-one minutes. When your life is in danger, even a few minutes is an eternity. Would you rather be able to protect yourself with your own firearm, or wait for the police to arrive?

The girl’s mother said she recognized the guy as one who had stalked her at a fair I think a year prior, or maybe less. They said they came to steal her hubby’s prescription meds, but I’m sure they meant to do worse than that. The full article in on the UK Daily Mirror.
Bogdan from Australia commented:
What a courageous young woman! A true hero.
Unfortunately here in EUNUCHALIA she would be charged with a murder. However it happens rather often that a real murderer gets away with a much lighter sentence.
The judges (or at least a majority of them) in Aussie are even bigger communo-fascist degenerates than in Yankee-stan.

I spent 21 minutes waiting for cops to show up: 2 thugs with guns threatening to kill my bus-load of passengers. I was livid, but my boss told me to shut up. I was accused of “sounding too calm” when I called for help. I told him I can fix that!
Not the first time, but definitely the last. I got out while I was still in one piece.
BTW, this was in Portland, Oregon.
May God bless this woman and her child.
RedBeard commented:
The cops aren’t to blame. There aren’t enough of them, and without a Star Trek transporter, they can’t get everywhere on time. Liberals love to say that we should be unarmed and depend upon the cops to protect us, but that would mean having a patrol car outside every home in America. Inane, just like all the rest of liberal “thought.”
Liberals can call the cops and wait meekly for the attack, but those who understand the right and necessity of taking personal responsibility will call on people like Colt, Smith, Wesson, Ruger, Remington, and Winchester.
Sasja commented:
I live in OKC and while I have not had to call 911, I have witnessed 2 responses from the cops. One was a hang-up and the cops were there johnny-on-the-spot. I was working in the yard and one of them asked me if anyone was home. I didn’t know. They broke down the door and entered. Funny thing, no one was home. The second time, my next-door neighbor accidentally hit the panic button on her security system. The cops were there within minutes, but even though her front door was open, they stood outside and waited for who knows what. So, I decided the best thing to do when confronted by a neer-do-well is to shoot first and ask questions later. And BTW, while the cops hung around outside, my son went rushing into her house carrying my gun. He’s always been an impatient sort.
wanumba commented:
Calling 911 was good in this case regardless. It provided her the corroborating witness to the home invasion and self-defense shooting that she wouldn’t have had if she had not called.
Patrick commented:
What I don’t get, is why she felt the need to ask for permission.

The womens lib movement should study her. This is a strong woman. Ellen Ripley #2.
Deanna commented:
Besides the fact she had to call 911 to ask permission, there are some other important facts. She thought of her baby first, not like so many mothers we read about today. And second, she used a shotgun, the ultimate home defense weapon…just point and shoot. No house should be without one.
IOpian commented:
Blanchard is a small rural community, part of a Tri-City suburban expansion on the southwest outskirts of the OKC metro. If you have an urban view of things 21 minutes may seem like a excessive amount of time but these communities incorporate large areas, 250 sq miles in Blanchard’s case ( Manhattan, NY is 23 sq miles ), with few people and a lot of space between them connected by county level roads.
There is a perfectly sane reason that people that who live in these places are strong advocates of gun ownership. It is a necessity for survival as this young lady demonstrated. It is also a demonstration that national policies pertaining to guns, education or vehicle type cannot be addressed as a ‘one size fits all’ solution to societal needs. That is why these ‘Red” states tend to lean away from federal interference in their affairs.

Cops in Okla. With the exception of the state trooprers (which there isn’t enough of) are ill equipted and most are poorly trained and as with Deleware county where I live half are crooks anyway. Oklahoma is very rural area. An officer may have to travel 50 mile just to get to the scene then there’s the assesment time. That was one of the main reasons the Make My Day law (one—if not the first—of the first such laws) came into existence. Land line phone service (911 locator service) is very poor in rural areas and if you call by cell there’s a 5 min question period of who, where, home #, and directions to make sure it is an legitimate call before a deputy is dispatched. This gal did it RIGHT! Called 911 knowing they couldn’t get there to stop it but giving her a witness and time verification to the events. To bad the other scum bag didn’t go down too. They thought they had easy picking with a newly widowed woman and baby. My daughter has the same instructions. Call 911 then when the perps kick in the door start busting caps.
Tired Okie commented:
By the way, it matters not if the perp had a knife, gun, club, or a baloney sandwich in his hand. When he kicked in the door he lost ALL rights to a fair fight.

this is why we need open carry because you cannot carry a cop around with you….
Redlite commented:
A gun in hand beats a cop on the phone every time.
My home State has the Castle law in effect along with Concealed carry without a licence. So if you break into my house I won’t be calling the police to ask for permission to shoot.
Several years ago there was a home invation in my nieghborhood by 3 teens who shot a prominent buisnessman in his bedroom at night. All were teens who had stolen the nine mm from down the street several nites ago. They shot and killed the homeowner. All 3 were convicted, two were sentenced to life without parole and the shooter who was 16 at the time of the killing was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. He was a Korea War vet and did not keep a gun in the bedroom.
Sarah and her son are safe tonite because she exercised her Second Ammendtment right. If Teh One had his way only the criminals would be armed and the young mother and son might very well be dead.
Good shooting girl!
WVMontani commented:
I’d rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
And to the person who said her husband was 58 years old, the pictures they showed on the newcasts of her husband made him look in his early 20s at the most.
