Newt is surging in the latest Florida Insider Advantage poll.
Newsmax reported, via Free Republic:
A new InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Sunday night of likely Republican voters in the state of Florida shows a significant surge for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
The poll has former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leading with 36 percent of voters, followed by Gingrich at 31 percent.
The Sunday results of 646 likely GOP voters are as follows:
Romney 36 percent
Gingrich 31 percent
Santorum 12 percent
Paul 12 percent
Other/Undecided 9 percent“The race will be tighter than expected,” Matt Towery, chief pollster of InsiderAdvantage told Newsmax.
Towery noted that his poll showed a surge for Romney on Wednesday, with him leading Gingrich by 8 points. The InsiderAdvantage poll was among the first to show Romney’s resurgence after his dismal showing in the S. Carolina primary.
The InsiderAdvantage poll was also the first to show Gingrich’s rise in S. Carolina and accurately forecast his win there.
The Public Policy Polling survey also shows Gingrich pulling to within 7% of Gingrich in their Sunday overnight survey.

Huh? Hey Hoft, get your head out of your you know what or Gingrich’s you know what and proofread your work.
RedBeard commented:
Tomorrow’s poll results are the only ones that matter. It will be interesting to see how close (or far) the pollster gurus are from the actual vote tally.
Pete_Bondurant commented:
Rasmussen (country’s most accurate pollster) had Romney up 16 or so a couple of days ago. But then again, Rasmussen is “establishment.” Romney’s Wall St. money probably bought them off. Rasmussen is obviously one of Romney’s paid minions using Saul linsky tactics to ward off the true conservative, Newt Gingrich.
The above is sarcasm just in case some of the slow Newtons who post here were confused.

I wonder… if (and nothing is sure at this point) Newt flames out, what will happen to those who have been riding his horse lately? I mean the ones who have jumped from horse to horse, abandoning each in turn as their candidates of choice disappear from the primary map. What horse will they ride next?
This has been an ugly primary season so far. From the very beginning, not one candidate has sparked my enthusiasm, and the choices are getting less appealing as the field dwindles.
Please let this primary mud wrestling end, so we can focus on the true enemy of the state, Barry Soetoro Obama. And let’s focus on the equally crucial task of electing a decent Congress.
Bigmike commented:
Intrade is a following indicator. If you watch Intrade for any length, it’s quite noticeable.
bobdog commented:
This is pretty surprising. Romney is dumping a boatload of cash on TV advertising. I was in Tampa last week, and the pro-Romney ads were relentless and vicious.
Seems to me like there are way too many “political strategists” making way too much money selling venom. I’m neither here nor there with either candidate, but if negative advertising sells, Romney’s bought himself a primary. I was pretty disgusted with what I saw.

The USA went to the moon 43 years ago? Why not build a space station there or maybe colonize it? How is that Newt has a crazy idea?
Bill Mitchell commented:
Damn what a crazy election. Probably easily double your money on Intrade with this news considering Newt is only at 3% this morning.
RedBeard commented:
Newt’s moon base idea isn’t crazy at all. But it certainly is irrelevant. No one cares. This election is about the unemployment rate, national security, socialism vs. the free market, gas prices, and health care mandates.
In bringing up the moon base, Newt reveals one of his tragic flaws, his inability to focus on what matters to voters right now, and his inability to stop acting like a college professor. The moon base is a great topic for a coffee house roundtable, or a college discussion session, but not as an issue in this election cycle.

Who has the cleanest, most consistently Constitutional voting record, without all the liberal baggage? Who hasn’t cheated on his wife, supported socialized medicine or voted to raise the debt limit 5 times? Who has never voted for an unbalanced budget or a congressional pay raise or voted against the peoples’ right to self defense? Who has actually laid out a plan to cut federal spending in real terms and balance the budget in his first term?
The one and only standing conservative candidate that can beat Obama without being a hypocrite is, Ron Paul.
There is only one big problem. The establishment insiders that chose John McCain and Barack Obama in 2008 do not care if Obama faces anyone on the Republican ballot as long as it is NOT – Congressman Ron Paul. Those who know the insides of the US political machines will tell you that if they were honest but any reasonable observer can see the bias against Paul, not for any real reason except that he stands squarely on the Constitution. That cannot be allowed in a President of the US. Reagan was the last President that gave more than lip service to our Constitution and look what happened to him on March 30th, 1981.
Ron Paul is the authentic Ron Reagan of this election! He has with his votes in Congress , “vetoed” more unconstitutional bills than any other elected official in history.
It is now time to grow up and elect a proven and consistent leader to save this republic while there is still time! Ron Paul is the man to do just that!
Nothing will change with any other! Ignorant and free can never be! Do your own research! Put a high value on your vote in your state’s primary! Do not compromise your liberties or those of your countrymen! Remember, the first Veterans were the founders! Paul is the only veteran running! Veterans, not military-industrial complex talking heads support Paul over all others! Support the Constitution and Dr. Paul before we have neither!

Agreed..btw, Newt has taken the Repeal Pledge, as has Rick Santorum, but Romney despite repeated requests has not. That’s a good indication of just how committed Romney is to repealing oBamacare and by extension, the Republican establishment..that is, they aren’t.

Romney is a progressive. He has not backout of his own support in Romneycare. Just like George Soros has said, there is no difference between Obama and Romney. I’m being intruded on just now by some woman trying to worm a donation out of some old man with a couple of hearing aids. They’re Catholic, and she’s all about how all groups have problems with child abusers, and she’s scared to death about the possibility of Newt getting elected because he’s going to oppress our religious rights. He’s quietly pushing her off, and I suspect he hears and thinks better than he lets on. My hearing’s good, but they’re a couple of tables away. This really isn’t something I want to hear. I wish she would quiet down.

[While the televised debates are what gave Newt Gingrich’s candidacy
a big boost, concrete accomplishments when in office are the real test.
Gingrich engineered the first Republican takeover of the House of
Representatives in 40 years — followed by the first balanced budget
in 40 years. The media called it “the Clinton surplus” but all spending
bills start in the House of Representatives, and Gingrich was Speaker
of the House.
Speaker Gingrich also produced some long overdue welfare reforms,
despite howls from liberals that the poor would be devastated. But
nobody makes that claim any more.]

Newt-Goldwater 1976
[Long before there was a mighty Republican machine running Georgia,
there was a handful of brash conservatives plotting to lift their tiny,
financially struggling party so they could end more than a century of
Democratic dominance.
Among the chief architects was Newt Gingrich, a West Georgia College
assistant professor who ran for Congress three times in a blue-collar
district – twice against an entrenched Talmadge Democratic incumbent
- before finally winning.
Gingrich, now a presidential hopeful, traveled West and North Georgia
during the 1970s and ’80s, preaching the Republican gospel and arguing
that the GOP had to choose between remaining a silent, permanent
minority or aggressively taking the fight to Democrats.
He chose confrontation and played the role of
provocateur, unwilling to accept second place….
U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Savannah, calls Gingrich an “indispensable early trailblazer” for Georgia Republicans. Kingston remembers his college days, when Gingrich came to the University of Georgia to recruit students to get involved in GOP politics.]
Interview conducted Spring 2001
Newt Gingrich
[NEWT GINGRICH: It was personally painful in the sense that you hated to be demonized, but you have to make a decision early on: Are you in the business to achieve change, or are you in the business to be popular? I thought my job was to be the executor of the American people's will on very specific things -- balance the budget, cut taxes, reform welfare, strengthen defense, modernize the House of Representatives.]

No, Newt did not endorse the Obamacare mandate
[This is wrong. I have listened to the entire audio recording, and Newt does not endorse the Obamacare mandate, in part because the speech took place before even the earliest draft of Obamacare had been proposed.
The actual discussion in the recording is nothing new, listen for yourself, it shows Newt saying what he has said before about not allowing free riders at hospitals including either having insurance or showing that you have the ability to pay. You can like it or not, but it’s not new or news, as Verum Serum acknowledges in its post.
The recording does not support the conclusion that Newt supported
Obama’s federal mandate, which uses the police powers of the state
to force people to buy insurance or face penalties.]

Liz,
If you do a little digging, you can find out why many, many people are disgusted with Romney, and why they hold him personally responsible for the current mess. The rap on Romney boils down to this:
http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/01/romney-starts-war-in-the-republican-balkans/
“…he resorts to spending multi-millions of dollars trashing his opponents, rather than providing thoughtful arguments on conservatism and constitutionalism. Lest we forget, it was Gingrich who was trying to run a positive campaign and who offered to debate Romney one-on-one, asking Romney to stop with the millions in unanswered ads attacking him. Romney declined.”
Newt has plenty of baggage that is his own, but that’s not what’s in issue, here. It’s the lying.
