Governor Mitch Daniels (R-IN) gave an amazing Republican Response to the president’s State of the Union Address.
Speaker Boehner released excerpts earlier tonight.
Tonight, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels will deliver the Republican address following President Obama’s State of the Union. A two-term governor with a successful record of reining in spending, reforming government, and creating a better environment for job growth, Mitch Daniels will discuss the Obama administration policies that have made the economy worse, and call for a “pro-jobs, pro-growth” agenda in line with the Republican Plan for America’s Job Creators. Following are excerpts from Governor Daniels’ address.
“As Republicans our first concern is for those waiting tonight to begin or resume the climb up life’s ladder. We do not accept that ours will ever be a nation of haves and have nots; we must always be a nation of haves and soon to haves.”
********************
“The extremism that stifles the development of homegrown energy, or cancels a perfectly safe pipeline that would employ tens of thousands, or jacks up consumer utility bills for no improvement in either human health or world temperature, is a pro-poverty policy. It must be replaced by a passionate pro-growth approach that breaks all ties and calls all close ones in favor of private sector jobs that restore opportunity for all and generate the public revenues to pay our bills.
“That means a dramatically simpler tax system of fewer loopholes and lower rates. A pause in the mindless piling on of expensive new regulations that devour dollars that otherwise could be used to hire somebody. It means maximizing on the new domestic energy technologies that are the best break our economy has gotten in years.”
********************
“It’s not fair and it’s not true for the President to attack Republicans in Congress as obstacles on these questions. They and they alone have passed bills to reduce borrowing, reform entitlements, and encourage new job creation, only to be shot down nearly time and again by the President and his Democrat Senate allies.”
********************
“No feature of the Obama Presidency has been sadder than its constant efforts to divide us, to curry favor with some Americans by castigating others. As in previous moments of national danger, we Americans are all in the same boat. If we drift, quarreling and paralyzed, over a Niagara of debt, we will all suffer, regardless of income, race, gender, or other category. If we fail to shift to a pro-jobs, pro-growth economic policy, there will never be enough public revenue to pay for our safety net, national security, or whatever size government we decide to have.”
********************
“2012 must be the year we prove the doubters wrong. The year we strike out boldly not merely to avert national bankruptcy but to say to a new generation that America is still the world’s premier land of opportunity. Republicans will speak for those who believe in the dignity and capacity of the individual citizen; who believe that government is meant to serve the people rather than supervise them; who trust Americans enough to tell them the plain truth about the fix we are in, and to lay before them a specific, credible program of change big enough to meet the emergency we are facing.”

I’m overly excited about spending 2 weeks of golfing vacation on a former FBI convict vineyard, with my entire family and friends of course.

Obviously spending a vacation on a former FBI convict property is something *every* US president should do. At least twice a year.

Outstanding speech!!!
Opaobie commented:
Just makes me a little suspicious since the establishment Republicans are trying desperately to get Daniels to reenter the race because Gingrich is gaining and Romney is fading, and they want a RINO or “moderate”…Daniels fits that mold. They probably went all out to help him deliver a very good speech.

The Wohn was lame and predictable. If this is the best He can do right now then-ha, ha!
Not even tomorrow’s media spinners news hacks will be able to put Him on a pedestal, where He “belongs”.
Mitch Daniels rebuttal was common sense but also predictable.
Why?-Because The Messiah is not “the one we’ve been waiting for”, He is a very flawed human with no original ideas other the ones borrowed from Karl Marx’s 200 years old skeleton.
Boring and bland. This is how The Black Superman Messiah looked tonight.
Expect the spin masters to forge full throttle tomorrow, but even they are starting to see the writing on The Wohn’s forehead: “Loooser!”

Obama’s speech was boring….and all I could hear was cha-ching, cha-ching…..spend more money we don’t have, and add a few more department/agencies to his already bloated administration……yawn! Daniels…..now that was a speech worth listening to….more than once.

What a loser. I mean, Obama is a one trick pony. The RICH are to blame for his MASSIVE SPENDING and INCOMPETENCE.
Patty commented:
Governor Mitch Daniels serves the people on heath and well being of those in Indiana. He has their best interests at heart. He has been know to tour the state and actually talk on an individual basis with anyone from anywhere who has a concerned or just a friendly acknowledgement.
Governor made it perfectly clear with no prejudice that America is ending in a very wrong direction. And that Republicans are not the monsters. They believe in the free market system and Americans pride in their accomplishments. The spirit of our creativity hasn’t disappeared we are struggle to be free and unleashed from Government’s grip and the division that was created by Obama because of his inability to work republicans who have laid out plans, he has rejected. Now, Obama calls in Class Warfare. That is code for not going to work across the aisle.
Criticize the rich and oppress the poor. And worse of all none accomplishment because of his visionary Presidency.
gus commented:
Obama said he’d cut some spending if we played CLASS WARFARE and taxed those currently paying the lions share.
It’s the same all the time. He is a MARXIST. Marxists take and destroy. They more you give them, the more they destroy. Not another fuxing penny Jugears. Once Obama’s candy ass is gone. we will fix the mess. We know how.
Patty commented:
Correction: because of his inapt vision for America.
The most divisive Presidency in U.S. History. Incapable of duty the work of ALL people.
Patty commented:
I liked what Rubio said. Coach gives a good speech to players but speeches are going to win the game.

I found Daniels speech expert but couched in political speak to the point of boredom. Not that he didn’t hit all the spots that needed to be hit and for that I’m thankful. It’s factual but totally uninspiring. No wonder the establishment Republicans want him to enter the race, he sounds just like them.

Mark Levin was there too and can debate what exactly happened. In fact It was David Bonior from MI that filed ethics complaint after another. The same technique that drove Gov Palin out. Must be agreed to by the GOP elites as they did nothing in both cases.
House-clean time. I hope 2012 is the end of the GOP as constituted now.
xiphos commented:
One part of his response should have been “That means a dramatically simpler tax system of NO (fewer) loopholes and lower rates.” Who would decide what fewer means?
Just some more wiggle room for our politicians and their lobbyists.
crackermike commented:
Daniels wife left him and the kids for another man, then Mitch took her back like the weinie he is. Obama will DESTROY Daniels in a general election. Obama’s whole campaign strategy will revolve around simple saying,” do we really want a slut as First Lady?” Alinsky demands it! Actually, Mitch has been a pretty damn good Gov here in Indiana. He knows though that the msm will destroy what’s left of his family for fun and profit.

As Hermain Cain said, “Many people are probably Tea Party people and they don’t know it,”
“Because if you believe in less taxes, less government, the free market system, more individual responsibility and enforcing the constitution, you are a Tea Party person, but you may not know it. ”
“A lot of people don’t know they’re Tea Party people because the political elite as well as the media elites have tried to marginalize this movement.”
Remember “WE THE PEOPLE are coming. . .”

About Newt’s electability: there’s precedent
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grover_Cleveland
Stephen Grover Cleveland (March 18, 1837 – June 24, 1908) was the 22nd and 24th President of the United States. Cleveland is the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms (1885–1889 and 1893–1897) and therefore is the only individual to be counted twice in the numbering of the presidents. He was the winner of the popular vote for president three times—in 1884, 1888, and 1892—and was the only Democrat elected to the presidency in the era of Republican political domination that lasted from 1861 to 1913.
Cleveland was the leader of the pro-business Bourbon Democrats who opposed high tariffs, Free Silver, inflation, imperialism and subsidies to business, farmers or veterans. His battles for political reform and fiscal conservatism made him an icon for American conservatives of the era.[1] Cleveland won praise for his honesty, independence, integrity, and commitment to the principles of classical liberalism.[2] Cleveland relentlessly fought political corruption, patronage, and bossism.
valerie commented:
More about Grover Cleveland:
“Ma, ma, where’s my pa? Gone to the White House, ha, ha, ha.”
To counter Cleveland’s image of superior morality, Republicans discovered reports that Cleveland had fathered an illegitimate child while he was a lawyer in Buffalo, and chanted “Ma, Ma, where’s my Pa?”.[76] When confronted with the emerging scandal, Cleveland’s instructions to his campaign staff were: “Tell the truth.”[77] Cleveland admitted to paying child support in 1874 to Maria Crofts Halpin, the woman who claimed he fathered her child named Oscar Folsom Cleveland.[76] Halpin was involved with several men at the time, including Cleveland’s friend and law partner, Oscar Folsom, for whom the child was also named.[76] Cleveland did not know which man was the father, and is believed to have assumed responsibility because he was the only bachelor among them.[76]
**************
oh, yeah, he won election when major numbers of Reform Republicans bolted to his support (in the Democratic Party).
This is why the Democrats at the national level fear Newt.
Benson II commented:
Daniels was absolutely wrong when he said this is not about theology but numbers. This is not about numbers. It is about a failed and dangerous even murderous socialist agenda that wants to install dictatorial rule in place of our constitution. This is condescending to the nth degree to those of us who are aware of this abhorrent philosophy that is now embraced by Democrats and Obama.
This is what moderation is all about. Do not name the danger. Pretend it is only misguided or mistaken, excuse the perpetrators.
We’ve seen the face of evil for three years and we’ve seen how moderation has not made it change it’s course.
Maybe a Republican rebuttal is not the place to use campaign rhetoric against Obama but it also isn’t the place to pretend it’s only about numbers.
Moderation in the face of an enemy who is trying to destroy us is why there is a Tea Party.
Couching their words carefully so as not to offend Obama and liberals is why moderates such as Daniels will not save or restore this Republic. Just like erasing the words Islamist terrorist from government documents will not deter terrorists from trying to kill us.
WillofLa commented:
Mich Daniels for President! As long as there are men like Mich still holding onto Freedom, Liberty, and who stand for the rights our Constitution guarantees, and millions of real American’s who believe like Mich does, this nation will never fall because no one cared enough to save it. It’s people like Mich Daniels who I can see calling up his national guard to stand against Obama’s little private army of Occupier’s to come get our guns!
