Canadian Professor: Conservatives Are Dumb Racists

A Canadian professor released a study today claiming conservatives are racists and dumb.

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.
The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.
“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood,” he said.
Controversy ahead
The findings combine three hot-button topics.
“They’ve pulled off the trifecta of controversial topics,” said Brian Nosek, a social and cognitive psychologist at the University of Virginia who was not involved in the study. “When one selects intelligence, political ideology and racism and looks at any of the relationships between those three variables, it’s bound to upset somebody.”
Polling data and social and political science research do show that prejudice is more common in those who hold right-wing ideals that those of other political persuasions, Nosek told LiveScience.
At least they know you can’t spend your way to wealth.

Sure, racist right-wing White people might have SLIGHTLY lower IQs than anti-racist left-wing White people (most likely due to slightly lower education levels); but what the IQ data REALLY shows is a wide gap in race and intelligence.
So, by bashing right-wing racist Whites and using IQ data in order to do so, you open up the debate to an EXTREMELY politically incorrect larger discussion on race and intelligence.
So ironincally, they’re just BOLSTERING right-wing White racism by allowing a public discussion of race and IQ to take place.

I don’t know a credible source in either political science or political philosophy that would support this hack’s claims. As one with a PhD in the latter, I can think of countless undergraduate texts and theorists I could suggest this individual consult; an introduction to liberalism (ala libertarianism and recognition of the individual) vs. communitarianism would immediately suggest that one would likely encounter discriminatory closures in the latter (which is much more resonant across the progressive ideology).
But if theory is too abstract for some, an empiricist approach using historical data can support the same conclusion that progressives and leftist individuals are much more likely to be racist, otherizing haters of difference. Most of the humanitarian disasters of the past century, including mass genocide and xenophobia, are overwhelmingly associated with left-thinking political systems (e.g. USSR, Italy, Kampuchea, Cuba, post-Weimar Germany, etc).
It would be alarmingly naive to suggest that “giving into racism” is the consequence of being dumb. Germany and Italy’s leading intellectuals were the ones who drove the nations toward their fascist experiments and rationalized the eradication of Jews, gays, Roma, and other “intolerable differences.” Carl Schmitt, Martin Heidegger and numerous other top German intellectuals were more than eager to advance a government that had already declared its intentions on assaults on non-Germanic races.
But yes, I would concur that there is extensive anecdotal evidence that members within progressive communitarianism systems tend to turn their brains off and perhaps this leads to racism and other consequences. To associate this with liberalism/libertarianism and conservative systems that value the individual is outright absurd and evidence of willfully incompetent “research.”

Considering the amount of antisemitism on Canadian campuses this guy might be a little out in left field. As to his claim about prejudice I must point out that it is not the same as racism. Here is a perfect example if you object to child molestation then you are prejudiced against it. So is prejudice bad in this example; no.
In fact some of our finest and most moral cultural advances have come from being taught to be prejudiced. How many of you guys think its okay to rape women? Not too many I think and you’ve being taught – socialized – by Mom and Dad that it is wrong to do so. You have being taught to have a cultural prejudice against it. So conservatives are not dumb racists as racism and prejudice are two very different things.
This is just another example of why people should not allow their children anywhere near boneheads like this in public education. Nor should taxpayers have to pay the salary of someone who is probably a tenured bonehead.

Everyday some college supposed to be expert by him self confirmed or liberal group funded by liberals to publish liberal positions puts out authoritative sounding garbage endorsing their propaganda. Ag, how many people do you think are in the KKK? Haven’t a clue, have you? It’s a tiny number, just so you know. Not enough to affect a study, nor to draw any conclusions. I suspect this professor(and I don’t want to single out Canadians, because our professors in the US are just as indoctrinated as theirs), has a different definition of dumb than I do. For instance, I think a person who can’t work on a car or truck is dumb. I’m sure the good professor thinks people who have liberal arts degrees are brilliant, whereas I think people who know how to row-crop farm are much more intelligent and useful to society as a whole. Plumbers are more useful, as are roustabouts in the oil field. These people contribute to the wealth of society, and are productive.
There, I just proved that people with liberal arts degrees are dumb racists. See how that works.

As Happy the man explained, ‘prejudice’ is not inherently a bad thing. The Left has tried to attach a negative connotation to the concept of prejudice, as part of an effort to discredit making any determinations of value- what they call ‘passing judgement’. In fact, making judgements of good and bad was once considered a mark of maturity. It still should be.
The implication of the professor’s effort is that making a clear determination of value is itself to be avoided. This is not wisdom, it is rejecting wisdom. It is born from a resistance to natural order and authority. It cannot be avoided that humans are theological beings (having been created by a loving Creator) and the fallen human condition is to resist that Divine authority.
Those who accept God’s omnipresence and ultimate dominion find (ultimately) total freedom in service. Those who resist and deny, are never satisfied and easily drawn to actions (and forces) that are opposed to goodness and health. Hence, the constant push to change society, abandon and even destroy traditional structures, build replacement dominions (feminist society, big governments, socialism).
The liberal Left is dominated and intimidated by an inner rage against authority, and seeks to reverse the proper dominion in each relationship. It brings sickness and destruction, and will never be satisfied. Ultimately this is a theological issue, as all things truly are.
Those of us who carry in our hearts an appreciation and gratitude for others who sacrificed for our benefit in previous years and generations, will also respect traditional institutions and wisdom. In the article’s perspective, that is ‘stress[ing] hierarchy and [having] resistance to change’. In my perspective, those attributes are healthy. In the liberal Left’s perspective, the very thought drives them to fits of rage. They are educated, but they are not wise.
The fear of the LORD is the *beginning* of wisdom.

A critical mass of them are crippling ignorant. Ignorance is lack of knowlege. Here in Africa, a lot of people are illiterate, thanks to poverty, but a huge swath are bi-lingual and tri-lingual … when they get education chances they move up fast.
In the USA under a Democrat education monopoly …African-AMericans are encouraged to believe that even English is too much … and are condemned to the uneducated, infantile grammar street slang of “Ebonics.” Math is “hard.” School achievement is denigrated as “white.” Try getting a job with that.
The Democrats have succeeded in imposing a state of non-competitiveness and by passive aggressiveness, deliberately denying Blacks real education. But it’s the “Republicans” fault.

The worst bigots we’ve met are very intelligent and very educated. They also have access to power positions that enables them to have a much wider influence on imposing their bigotry on others.
It is raw, nasty, very crafted bigotry to assign all evils to “white southern religious conservative males,” create an entire educational system that teaches those false assumptions, disseminate that through television and movies, radio and TV, “news” and editorial “opinion.”
How effective? The Democrats were slavers, dragged the country into civil war to preserve slavery, then sore and sullen losers created a de facto system of slavery, violently and legislatively tried every trick itnhe book to block civil rights legislation, gun control arms out of the hands of black lawful citizens, and have managed to instruct the world that they had nothing at all to do with it, it was all the Republicans’ fault.

College is suppose to be about education and opening your mind to new thoughts and ideas, this mans classes would only teach indoctrination and bias but that is usually what you get from a liberal instructor. The idea of innovation and new thought is completly foreign to them the are still locked into the 20′s and 30′s poilitical ideals of socialism and the fact that it does not work anywhere on the planet is beside the point.
The study he uses to make this argument is at best flawed and inprecise, the interpretation of the data is at best suspect and can be viewed in a number of scientific and unscientific way. This interpretation is badly flawed and is viewed thru the bias of the professor in question, but by his reputation in the academic community that is not a surprise.

Yeah, wanumba, no. Those people you assumed to be intelligent, weren’t. Being in a “power position” has surprisingly little to do with intelligence in many instances. Remember, 3/4′s of all graduates from law and medical school finished in the bottom 3/4′s of their classes. Just because someone can wow you with their expertise on Jeopardy questions doesn’t make them smart.
And the game of trying to link today’s Democratic Party to that of the late-nineteenth century only works on those “intelligent” bigots (nevermind the intelligence of people who are unable, or unwilling, to understand the difference between the two Democratic parties).
