The flag of the United Nations flew at half-mast Wednesday at the world’s body headquarters in New York and its Geneva offices to mark the funeral for late North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il. (AFP)
The United Nations flew its flag at half-mast in honor of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il today.
The AFP reported, via Lucianne:
The flag of the United Nations flew at half-mast Wednesday at the world’s body headquarters in New York and its Geneva offices to mark the funeral for late North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il.
Choi Soung-ah, a spokeswoman for UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon, said it was customary practice for the UN flag to be lowered to half-mast upon the deaths of leaders of UN member states.
The non-governmental organization UN Watch said while protocol had to be followed, “the world body must not forget that its founding purpose is to defend basic human rights.”
“Sadly, that message is at serious risk of being blurred today,” UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer said.
“Today should be a time for the UN to show solidarity with the victims — the millions of North Koreans brutalized by Kim’s merciless policies of starvation and oppression — and not with the perpetrators.”

The question is: how is North Korea allowed into the UN?
For any of you wanting a leisurely read, google “USS Pueblo” and recall what N Korea did to our ship and sailors while in International waters. They still have our ship, and moved it, in International waters, during the beginning of Obama’s reign. Any decent president would have sunk the thing and taken out their boats, too.
P.S. Our sailors gave hand signs during propaganda photo shoots. Time magazine exposed them in their Oct 18, 1968 issue, insuring more torture for our men. Another organization whose true colors were displayed.

I can see why they did it, but at the same time this is a symbol of what’s basically wrong with the United Nations: they cannot discern between good and evil, between tyranny and liberty. So they treat Syria and Canada as the same for committees and treatment in the chambers. Pol Pot and JFK are identical to them. And that’s why the UN is basically worthless in its job of preventing another Hitler.

I’m all for getting the NorKs to end their belligerence toward their neighbors. I’m just not convinced that achieving that objective warrants turning around, bending over and spreading the cheeks.

2. Evict the U.N. from New York, but collect the millions in unpaid parking fines before escorting the “diplomats” onto a rusty freighter for the trip home.

I noticed that after Senator Robert Byrd died, our nation’s flags hung at half mast. For a KKK Grand Kleagel who used his Congressional power to filibuster the Civil Rights ACt as he porkified his state with monuments to himself.
Because of the US Constitution, Byrd didn’t get to be the Big Kahuna the way Kim Jung IL was, but look how he behaved with one state,W.VA. – and how much that state has lagged behind others in the USA.
It was FAR more offensive to see our honorable flags and all they represent dipped for Byrd than the UN dipping other flags for Kim.
