It’s an Obama World… Walter Reed Hospital Bars Family Members From Bringing Bibles to Injured Soldiers

It’s an Obama world.
While we were preoccupied with other disastrous Obama policies, military bureaucrats under Barack Obama passed a new rule that barred loved ones from bringing Bibles to wounded soldiers.

The US Military says they are rescinding the order but only after a Republican lawmaker denounced the policy on the House floor.
Todd Starnes reported:

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center said they are rescinding a policy that prohibits family members of wounded military troops from bringing Bibles or any religious reading materials to their loved ones.

The decision to rescind the ban on Bibles came exactly one day after a Republican lawmaker denounced the policy on the House floor and called on President Obama to publicly renounce the military policy.

“The President of the United States should address this and should excoriate the people who brought about this policy and the individual who brought it about should be dismissed from the United States Military,” Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told Fox News & Commentary.

King spoke from the House floor Thursday blasting a policy memorandum from the commander of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center written by Chief of Staff C.W. Callahan. The September 14th memo covers guidelines for “wounded, ill, and injured partners in care.”

“No religious items (i.e. Bibles, reading material, and/or artifacts) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit,” the policy states.

“That means you can’t bring in a Bible and read from it when you visit your son or your daughter, perhaps – or your wife or husband,” King said. “It means a priest that might be coming in to visit someone on their death bed couldn’t bring in the Eucharist, couldn’t offer Last Rites. This is the most outrageous affront.”

HMM, no religious articles allowed in Walter Reed Hospital: does that include pictures of Obama?

  • Atlanta Media Guy

I wonder if the lame Stream media will cover this one. The fact that this speech was given on Thursday and the public is just finding out about it 4 days later speaks volumes. Our media is officially beholden to Obama. You think the media will cover their own demise when Obama asks for scripts before the network news his the air? Powder is dry folks!

  • My Falanges Are On Fire!

What a travesty. Brave men and women injured whilst serving their country, founded on principles of religious freedom, are prohibited the free practice of religious faith…? … in a military hospital…?

What would Father Mulcahey have to say about all this…? :(

  • KLD

The President of the United States should address this and should excoriate the people~~~~Not going to happen. More than likely, at some point at the end of the policy trail you’d find Obama. One of the many things he’s over 50% there in fundamentally changing America.

If the Christians don’t wake up soon and fight for their rights we will be prohibited from practicing our religion. Can you imagine the “stink” that would come from stopping a Koran from being brought into the hospital.

And to think they all went out of their way to say, “Yes, I believe Barack Obama aka X,” was born in Hawaii.” They all had to be so nice to the man who’s lying about his identity.

I’d like to read a full and official explanation for that horrendous policy, along with a recounting of how it got to the good representative’s attention.

At first glance, I cannot understand how someone who pledges his life to defend the US constitution would come to construct such a Godless policy. Something is seriously amiss in this.

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

This insane liberal trend will end in a Perry administration…He’s a vet.

“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, September 9, 2011 CONTACT Alexis DeLee at (512) 633-2620 Veterans for Rick Perry: Mission Accomplished (AUSTIN, TX) – Dan Shelley, founder of Veterans for Rick Perry, today released the following statement announcing the organization’s successful completion of its mission: “Veterans for Rick Perry was created to demonstrate veterans’ support for a Rick Perry presidential run, and to draft him into the presidential race. Mission accomplished! “With our objective of encouraging Governor Perry to enter the presidential race accomplished, we have filed the necessary papers to dissolve the non-connected committee, shut down this outfit and entrust next stage logistics to the official Rick Perry presidential campaign. “Veterans recognize Rick Perry as the clear and best candidate for President, and I have been honored to be a part of the organization that led the call to duty charge for his candidacy. Governor Perry’s service to his country and his strong support of veterans and military issues will ensure an administration that respects the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform, and a Commander-in-Chief with the experience to lead.”

“From Blue Star Chronicles – Texas Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry signs a law exempting disabled veterans from property taxes. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and has consistently been a strong supporter of our military throughout his tenure as Governor of Texas. Read more and see a photo and video below.

As Governor of Texas Rick Perry has actively promoted a comprehensive services for veterans in Texas. In particular he has enacted policies that provide assistance to veterans and their families with strong mental health programs and educational opportunities. That is not even mentioning that he has kept the Texas economy strong even as the rest of the nation has suffered record breaking unemployment, a downgrade in the nations credit rating (for the first time in history) and a recession bordering on (if not already) moving into a depression…”

We are seeing the results imposed on our military by another clueless “Big Idea” President with no military experience and little regard to the traditions that are fundamental to what makes America’s armed forces strong.

” 1. Supported and signed “College Credit for Heroes,” SB 1736 (2011), which establishes a pilot project at the Texas Workforce Commission in coordination with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop a model for college transfer methods that maximizes academic and workforce education credit awarded to universities to veterans for military experience.
    2. Signed legislation making it easier for active-duty military to vote while overseas.
    3. Extended property tax exemptions for fully disabled veterans to their surviving spouses and signed legislation ensuring that property tax exemptions follow disabled veterans to new property if they move.
    4. In June 2010, Gov. Perry announced a $3 million workforce development initiative through the Texas Workforce Commission to ensure veterans and family members have the resources necessary to receive an education, procure jobs and return to civilian life after their deployments end. The initiative connects the dots between the high-quality training our military offers and college coursework and professional certification standards.
    5. In November 2009, the governor worked with the Legislature and the Health and Human Services Commission to secure an additional $5 million to supplement the $1.2 million from the state budget to expand mental health treatment ans support programs for veterans and their families.
    6. The governor also directed the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) and DSHS to establish veteran-to-veteran (V2V) support groups across the state. These V2V groups help veterans by allowing them to share their experiences with fellow veterans.

Now he has signed into law that veterans with 100% service related disabilities will not have to pay property taxes.”

    Comment thread:
HB 3613 (giving 100% disabled veterans a full exemption) was passed unanimously by the Texas legislature and signed into law by Perry in June 2009. It immediately become law.

The upcoming Resolution 1 on the fall Texas Constitutional ballot extends that exemption to surviving spouses.

#39 You got that right. I am a fence sitter because I believe Perry would be our best president but he screwed it up and gave them so much ammo. MSM Professional Pooper-Scoopers and their Funny cohorts just love to paint stupid on Repubs.

Here is exactly where any American who believes in love, family, respect and has any conscious at all should be writing, flooding phones lines at Hospital and calling any representatives, today.

My brother’s daughter died this past Saturday and they are devastated, here in our town they haven’t done this nor could they get away with this.
But the hospital isn’t Government owned.

Without their bible and their faith they would be falling apart even more than they are now.

At Walter Reed these are our Military who have fought for freedoms and one should be to express their faith and love.

  • workingclass artist

    @#39

Yeah. I’m a native Texan and a Perry supporter prospering in the land of the free & working down here in Texas.

And Yeah I’d like the rest of the country to get some of that prosperity too so liberals from failed states will quit moving to Texas because they bring their failed politics with them. So I do my bit just like everyone else does for their candidate. Jobs means jobs…just sayin’

“From June 2010 to June 2011, Texas added more net new jobs — 222,000 — than any other state. But it’s certainly not a newcomer to job creation. Between May 2006 and May 2011, Texas was home to more than 538,000 new jobs — more than all the other states combined.

So what exactly is the “secret recipe” Texas is using to become America’s foremost example of how to foster a climate allowing businesses to create jobs and opportunity? Governor Rick Perry attributes this amazing success to the ability of Texans to “build a legacy of living within our means, balancing our budgets, keeping taxes low, and maintaining a jobs-friendly environment that encourages investment and enables employers and employees alike to keep more of their hard-earned money. In an uncertain world, people everywhere have grown to know they can rely on Texas.”

Phrased another way, Executive Director of the Economic Development & Tourism Division Aaron Demerson says Texas allows companies to “thrive” by passing sweeping tort reforms, holding the line on taxes, and limiting burdensome regulations. “Texas has partnered with employers in job creation and, in the process, helped investors improve their bottom line,” he notes.

I don’t think Newt or Mitt or (Bachmann & Santorum,Huntsman) will reform DC. Because they are creatures of either Wall St. or Washington DC (So is Ron “Bring home the Pork” Paul for that matter)

Gov. Perry has a record of successful conservative policies that work and that is how he can beat Obama…He is the most qualified conservative candidate in the race with the best plans. He’s been fighting DC for a long time dating to his time fighting the EPA as Agr. Comm. in the 90’s. He’s fought Bush over Federal Border Abandonment that created a border crisis in 03 & 05. He’s fought Obama since he took office and began his war on the states.

Good read by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal

“For almost two hundred years, being in Congress meant holding down another job. As recently as the 1950s, Congress was still largely a part-time institution. Aside from extraordinary times such as World War II, members arrived in Washington by train in January and left in the summer. Granted, a part-time Congress would face its own ethical issues. How can we avoid conflicts of interest when people simultaneously run a business and pass laws? How could we prevent businesses from hiring congressmen just for the sake of influence? The answer is simple: full disclosure. Let the voters know everything, and they can render their judgment at election time.”

So Perry and Obama are on the stage in probably the single televised debate Obama will agree to. It will be plain spoken Citizen Perry v bloviating stuttering Socialist Obama

Gov. Perry will just do as he has said he will do ask Obama “How did you lose 2 million jobs? when in Texas we made a million jobs”

“Why did you tell the enemy when we’d be leaving and place our soldiers in danger?”

“Why did you tell the American people the border is safe when Hezbollah has training cmps across from San Diego?”

“Why did you try to shut down the Texas grid? and put Texans out of work….Why are you shutting down the Gulf or the Coal Industry or American Farmers or the pipeline?”

“Why did you bow to the King of Saudi Arabia & apologize for America?”

The list will go on and on as Gov. Perry draws the contrast by asking the questions a citizen would ask in a direct way and demonstrating with his record that Obama’s socialist policies cannot work and are styled as European not American.

“Can you tell us if there are more or fewer Texas state employees now than when he was elected.”

Yeah…The stats fluctuate based on the budget.

” According to the report, the new state budget provides for 235,240 FTEs in fiscal year 2012 and 235,135 FTEs in 2013. Compared with the 240,862 FTEs that were budgeted for the current fiscal year, which ends Aug. 31, that’s a reduction of 5,727 FTEs by 2013, or 2.4 percent. And after the 2004-05 budget was written, the last time the state faced a significant revenue shortfall, most of the 10,000 eliminated state jobs were cleared through attrition and a retirement incentive ”

Approx. 6000 FTE’s will lose their jobs because of the balanced budget and cuts accoss the board. According to the state auditor’s office, which collects information on the state’s work force, one full-time-equivalent position is “any combination of employees whose hours total 40.” That means that an FTE total is not necessarily equivalent to a head count — one FTE position could be filled by two people working 20 hours a week, for example — and that the number of jobs being cut over the next two years could actually be greater than 5,727.

He wants to ban the Christian Religion in the US and do away with the military. Tell them to register to Vote and vote for whoever runs against Obama. We as Americans need to get this country back on track!

I can assure you that this was a civilian who directed this. NO military officer would ever deprive the men and women serving the right to a bible. That’s a personal item. So UI do nto believe this came from the brass; it was some minor civilian functionary, wagging his fat ass and making like a big cheese.
