Unreal. Muslims File Suit – Say Crosses at Catholic University Are Offensive

Muslims at Catholic University, a private school, say the crosses and religious symbols on campus are offensive.
FOX News reported:
The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers.
The investigation alleges that Muslim students “must perform their prayers surrounded by symbols of Catholicism – e.g., a wooden crucifix, paintings of Jesus, pictures of priests and theologians which many Muslim students find inappropriate.”
A spokesperson for the Office of Human Rights told Fox News they had received a 60-page complaint against the private university. The investigation, they said, could take as long a six months.
The complaint was filed by John Banzhaf, an attorney and professor at George Washington University Law School. Banzhaf has been involved in previous litigation against the school involving the same-sex residence halls. He also alleged in his complaint involving Muslim students that women at the university were being discriminated against. You can read more on those allegations by clicking here.
Banzhaf said some Muslim students were particularly offended because they had to meditate in the school’s chapels “and at the cathedral that looms over the entire campus – the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.”
“It shouldn’t be too difficult somewhere on the campus for the university to set aside a small room where Muslims can pray without having to stare up and be looked down upon by a cross of Jesus,” he told Fox News.

This is a Catholic University. Part of the mission of this school is to create a Catholic culture on campus. By attending, muslim students are agreeing to live in such an environment. Their right is to find their own space off campus if they desire.

I send my son to a Catholic school. At the beginning of this year I had to sign a memorandum of understanding stating that the school is a Catholic institution and my son will be taught Catholic beliefs. If I didn’t sign the document he was not permitted to attend. Period. It was a contract that I had to sign and if at any time I was offended or unhappy with the teachings of the school my son would be expelled. Period. I gladly signed it. Sounds like Catholic University needs to implement this type of contract as well. This was the first year I had to sign a contract.

Marie, I agree wholeheartedly. Catholic University should put it in writing and if they do not like it, then they do not have to attend. I worked with someone that is Jewish and his parents sent him to a Catholic school because the curriculum was superior to that of the public school he would have had to attend. During classes where religion was discussed, he was excused and went to the library. He was not insulted, his parents were not insulted. It was their choice to have their son attend that school. The school did not recruit or force them to send their son there.

I had a muslim roommate in college who would use our room to pray. I would leave the room and give him his privacy most of the time. There were times when I didn’t care to leave my room but kept quiet while he prayed. He was aware that I was a Christian and I read my Bible regularly even when he was in the room. This is what I call mutual respect.
Why didn’t he along with his muslim friends voice their concerns about getting their own rooms or mosques on campus then? I’ll tell you why: because those were different times. It appears that the time is ripe for muslims to no longer show mutual respect for their host countries. All I can say at this point is get the frak out if you don’t like it.
I love our Constitution and understand why our forefathers created the 1st Amendment out of fear our government would enforce their religion on us citizens. But isn’t that exactly what our U.S. Federal government is doing? I’d say it’s the right time to Amend the 1st Amendment to officially state that the U.S. of America is a Judeo/Chrisitan nation. Until the law changes, this is win-win for the Muslims.
It costs them far less time and money to file suit than it does for the school to against it. The school will spend untold dollars convening councils, setting up diversity programs, paying lawyers and consultants, and ultimately will probably cave in some way to their demands.
But even if they didn’t cave, they stand to lose in court and be forced to make changes.
Muslims use lawfare to weaken western opposition. They are essentially using our legal protections and our freedom against us, and despicably so when one considers it is illegal to erect a Christian church in Saudi Arabia and a Christian minister in Iran is about to be executed.
One thing we need is a reform of our legal system that makes it costly for people to make a game of it.

I’m sure that if the Catholic University denied muslim applications there would be a civil rights lawsuit filed shortly thereafter. I think the school will win this current suit because it allowed muslims to attend in spite of their religion. The burden should be on the muslims to explain why they attended in the first place knowing it was a Catholic institution without a special prayer room set aside for “religion of peace” cave people. Not every jihad by muslims is based on violence like flying planes into building or become human bombs. The Majority of the jihad goal is as “peaceful” as in a “death by a thousand cuts”.
It is moving like water, gentle at first, but the deluge is coming if nothing is done now. All those cases, like the muslim woman suing Disney a couple years ago (months after becoming a US citizen, yet she was working at Disneyland without a problem for at least 2 years already), are meant to test the system and push it, push it back until it is too late.

You live in a country where we have freedom of speech.
The country also allows freedom to be gay, freedom to use contraceptives, and a whole bunch of other freedoms. Catholics love telling other people what to do, and Catholics have the freedom to do that, too. Here, here’s the deal. You don’t come to a foreign country then start making demands that this country make considerations just for your religion that this country has never had to make for anyone. What everyone else has had to do was THEY make considerations for the religion of THAT country, not the other way around. You don’t move to a foreign country and then do everything no one else has ever done, to change that country to accomodate your needs. You don’t move to another country and then set out to change that countries custom’s, tradition’s, society, government just because you don’t like it. You don’t move to a foreign country and set out to take that country away from the citizen’s of that country because you believe it is a sinful country. If you don’t like the way things are, you either accept it as there is nothing you can, or shouldn’t have the right to, do.
You are supposed to accept that this country is foreign to you and you don’t know anything about how that country has developed over the generations, centuries, and you don’t have the right to make changes you think you have the right to make because your religion says you do. What kind of religion tell’s it’s believers that they have the right to move to a foreign country and change that country to your liking? No other religion other than Islam!! They are the only religion that does that to other countries.

And I didn’t make up that scenario about Harvard. It’s true, the Muslim’s DID order all Christian activities stopped immideately, prayer sessions either inside or outside on campus stopped immideately, all literature both printed and recorded (CD’s, DVD’s) removed from the campus, remove all Christian symbols, effigies, statues, plaque’s with written words from the Bible, etc. immideately. This is what has happened at both Harvard and Columbia, the two universities that received 20 million dollar donations each for the establishment of Islamic Studies courses including any new buildings, instructor’s(provided by the donor and/or their agent’s).
So what has had to happen is these universities have removed all traces of Christianity from the campuses of these schools just because Muslims have made these huge contributions and believe they now have the right to make those kinds of decisions for the universities bypassing the boards of director’s, and the major contributor’s, Dean, whatever. Believe Islam is this understanding and compassionate religion of peace and love, and non violence. BULL CRAP!!!

I have the solution for Catholic U. They leave the crucifixes as they are, designate a special room for their Muslim students, and ADD a copy of “A Common Word Between Us and You, http://www.acommonword.com/
together with a nice, engraved plaque with the names and titles of the signatories.
If it were me, I’d add a few other plaques, with choice quotes from the document, as well.

People, please realize that these people you are talking about are extremists and crazies. I myself am a Christian, but one of my dearest friends is a Muslim. And I once lived in a community where Christianity was incredibly small compared to religions such as that of the Muslims. And they were some of the nicest people I ever met. The issue is that there are those few that think that they are above the rest and know the best for them. There are those in every religion. Need I remind you all of the Westboro Baptist church? Or how about what we all learn in history: The crusades? We all have been put into a harsh and incorrect grouping because of idiots and extremists. Please do not believe that all are like that. And remember that we are human, we make mistakes.
And no, I am not agreeing with the lawsuit. I think Its stupid and ridiculous, and that if they dont like it, they can indeed get out. But that’s no reason to belittle the religion or the other people involved with it.
