Karl Rove: Allegations Against Cain Have Been Out There For At Least 10 Days (Video)

Republican strategist Karl Rove told Monica Crowley on The O’Reilly Factor tonight that he was surprised that the Cain Campaign had not heard about the allegations since they had been out there for at least 10 days.
Hmm.

Karl Rove:

“I think he should be prepared for things like this because he’s a serious presidential candidate. In fact what gets me, is look, I’ve talked to people in the news business today and they say this has been going around for at least 10 days. I find it hard to believe that the campaign didn’t know this was coming and was a badly prepared as they were. You don’t start out by saying there’s nothing to this whatsoever and then go into we don’t know anything about and then go yes I know it but I didn’t do it.”

UPDATE: Herman Cain told Greta Van Susteren tonight that his campaign had known that Politico was going to publish the hit piece since October 20th.

He probably concocted the whole thing

I wonder if Rove is aware of the allegations that he is Barney Frank’s love interest.

    Who is Karl Rove?

  • serfer62

Rove represents the dispicable DC elitests

  • I will need a lot more facts before I change my opinion of Mr. Cain.

10 days, then why did the lamestream media wait until yesterday to unleash the coyotes?

I want these women to go on TV and make their allegations where the country can hear them. And give us details like, did Cain have the power to hire/fire or affect their pay; IOW did he have any power over them? Or did he just make the poor delicate babies “uncomfortable”? (Crap, if I had a nickle for every time a work colleague made me “uncomfortable”, I could pay off my part of the national debt and still be able to buy a six of good beer!) But really, if this is all they have and they are using this soon, they ain’t got nothing. This has NOT changed my support for Cain as POTUS and I suspect that I am very much NOT alone.

And 0bama is a SCFOAMF. And Rove is a d!ck.

I like Mr.Cain. Rove not much at all.

So, Rove knew all about this attack BEFORE it ever happened.

What the odds are that ROVE is BEHIND this FALSE attack?

  • retire05

Fox was reporting as early as this morning that Politico had contacted the Cain campaign about the story as far back as ten days ago. Politico said that the Cain campaign never got back to them.

Why didn’t Cain’s campaign get out in front of this story when they knew it was about to break? Why has Cain continued to change his story as the day goes along, first saying that he was unaware of any complaints, then he was aware of one of the claims but that it was turned over to the Human Resource department and said he was unaware of what the resolution was. Compare that with his interview with Greta Van Sustern, where Cain seems now to “recall” many more details.

The bottom line? No matter what the truth is, the Cain campaign has handled this miserably. They should have been on top of this story a week ago knowing it was coming down the pike. They weren’t.

Now, I know there are those who say that I am pointing all this out because I am not a Cain fan. No, I’m not, because I don’t believe in the politics of personal destruction, like some on this website have tried to do to Governor Perry. But since last night, I have been reading Cain fans say there was no story and all of the Politico article was a lie. Well, we know now that is not true, and that at least part of the story is true. Yes, Cain was accused of sexual harrassment, at least twice. Yes, we know that the women were paid off to get them to go away and shut up.

Can Cain wade through this? I don’t know. It depends. If the women decide to come forward, and take their claims public, he’s done. If not, he has a chance, albeit a slim one now.

One of these days…soon…Carl Rove is going to go into full melt-down mode, complete with holding his breath and stamping his [what are probably tiny little] feet. In between shrieks and sobs, he’ll cry and whine that he doesn’t want Herman Cain to be president because he – his Roveness – can’t bear the thought of someone actually anti-Obama and anti-RINO being our nominee.

For Carl, now…all together….waaaaaaaaaaa, sniff sniff, waaaaaaaaaaaaa! The pouting putz is a tiresome little troll.

Cain and his campaign has known about this for TEN days and had been told one of the women’s names to verify it was real. He and his campaign had been talked to several times for him to address it. He refused.

Two problems with Herman Cain and the sexual harassment issue. Yesterday he said he couldn’t comment as if he didn’t know what they were talking about. The reporter gave him one of the names right there and instead of denial, said wouldn’t comment and then smartly asked him if he’d ever been accused of sexual harassment. He and his campaign most certainly did know about this for some time too, as they have been notified many times throughout the past 10 days and refused to address it. Now, today he “remembers”? He remembered only one woman.

He went to a friendly venue to give his side unchallenged. He could have avoided this whole thing if he had responded to the questions prior to the story coming out.

Before you mention the non-disclosure agreement, as an excuse why he didn’t comment yesterday, it was on the women not Cain. But let’s say it was on Cain too just to be safe as we don’t really know. So, if he didn’t answer the questions yesterday because of it, then why did he respond today? You can’t have it both ways. Also, he knew about it for TEN days. Ten days is a lot of time to clear things up or find information.

And to say the only incident that he remembers is that he just touched his chin and said the woman was the same height as his wife wouldn’t justify a settlement.

Rush talked about it today giving only some of the accusations, he conveniently forgot the biggest one where the woman says Cain asked her up to his suite.

The second problem I find with it: There is no way the President of the National Restaurant Association didn’t know about the settlement, not just one but multiple settlements. This defies logic and truth. Mr. Cain, although the accused, was the President. He was on Fox today and said he wasn’t aware of a settlement.

And why did he make the comment that we probably would hear about more women and more accusations. Why even say that? That just serves to put more doubt out there about how many others and doubt in that he’s telling the truth.

Oh Oh, just found the lie, actually two. Cain later today told Greta he knew about the settlement and recalls the 2nd woman. Cain not only knew about the settlement, he knew how much she asked for and the amount “WE ended up settling for”. He told Greta this today after lying that he didn’t even know there was a settlement this morning. He also “recalled” the 2nd woman after denying it this morning.

Oops, found another lie too Cain said the National Restaurant Association’s general counsel and the Human Resources Department conducted an investigation into allegations about his conduct in the late-90s and found it to be baseless. But the head of the Human Resources Dept says there was no investigation and didn’t even know about any allegations against Cain.

When she was called after he repeated this at his National Press Club speech, she replied “He did not say that.” When the quote was recited for her, she hung up.

Also I listened to the Politico reporter today on radio and there is more coming.

The allegations may indeed be false, but the cover-up and lies are what’s doing Cain in. He just today got caught in 3 lies. Now, he’s going to tout out his wife? Please don’t make a wife have to listen to and defend this.

It’s the lies that will catch him.

Now, worse..this evening a few hours ago, Cain told PBS that he “doesn’t recall” whether he asked one of the women to come back to his hotel room with him, as per one of the apparent allegations.

    “Doesn’t recall?”

Fifteen years ago and now a left wing liberal rag dug deep with help from some where and no it was NOT sexual harassment (get your bashing straight 05) the bogus charge was inappropriate action. Fifteen years ago!!!!

Too convenient. I’m not seeing any proof. After 20 years I’d have expected some documentation to have been released to cement this charge. Seems to be tailor made for Romney.

  • BN_TX

    Mr. Rove,
When did you stop beating your wife…?
You need to answer the allegation quickly or it will spread–Too late, you must be a serial wife-beater and unfit for public service.

There was no depositions taken on ither side. There was a in house investigation and resolved at that point. Bought off maybe to smear Mr. Cain.

    Fifteen years ago!

I agree. I don’t think this is really a story, at all, and I don’t think Cain will suffer from any “cover-up” of this idiotic charge, but he did stumble all over it when it should have been pretty simple. Sadly, Cain’s become known to fumble through some very easy issues that he should have already had ironed out in his own mind. I like the guy and would enthusiastically support him in the general, but he is pretty far down my list for the primary.

That said, having Rove attack him can do nothing but help Cain. That’s like 5 stars, getting attacked by “The Architect”.

This entire farce of a story is a pathetic smear attempt.

The only real question is who is behind this fabrication. Apparently insiders, like Rove, were made aware of it in advance of the grand publication. With Bill O’Reilly conveniently ditching his own show it is likely he knew of this fabrication as well. VanSustern really trashed her own credibility with her absurd attacks on Cain without one single shread of evidence. I never realized that all men are sexual preditors in VanSustern’s eyes until I watched her in action tonite.

The only pundit that actually made any sense was Dick Morris. He pointed out the obvious flaw in the story. There is no WHO, WHAT, or WHERE in the actual Politico ‘story’. In fact, all we have is the absurd ranting of political operatives at Politico making claims they cannot prove.

Okay Rove, Cain’s people should have known about the specifics of the hit piece…….But HOW COME YOU KNEW ABOUT IT FOR 10 DAYS??

Are you in with Poltico? Hmm no, you and your machine are the source of the non-sense story.

Rove exposed himself with his own comments

  • American Woman

The elitists from both parties are playing games as they join hands in picking our candidates yet again. They want Obama vs Romney, but realize the problem is a lot of Americans don’t care for either one.

So one by one they go after the competition to make their picks look better.

    The process stinks.

  • Sparky

Best defense against Rove is to donate to Herman Cain’s campaign.

Rove has no credibility considering he was the “Architect” of the Republican demise under Bush. Rove also allowed the Democrats to do an “Alinsky” on Bush. Rove never defended any of the attacks on Bush, he never framed the Conservative debate nor did he define the Republican message. Once Bush got re-elected, Rove turned into a total loser and should have bee put out to pasture!

Rove is untrustworthy and dangerous because he is misleading the public with outright lies and misinformation. He is a shill for Romney and the Beltway elites.

  • Mike Bell

Knew about it for 10 days and this is the best they were able to do? Very unimpressive. Cain should have had his story straight from the get-go. I could care less about this silly non-story, but the way Cain and his campaign have mishandled it is worrisome. How a candidate runs his campaign, assembles his team, manages his team, and deals with process of the campaign informs us of what kind of man or woman we are dealing with. I’m also disturbed by what I see as Cain lying. I could care less about the “sexual harassment” BS, but Cain has again been inconsistent and not forthcoming. As bad as Obama is, I’m so disappointed with the current crop of GOP nominees. Not a single, honest, man/woman OF THE PEOPLE. Cain is the closest, but he’s proven to me the last few weeks that he is just as full of sh*t as pathological liars like Romney and Perry. Such a shame. Why can’t these people just tell the truth – consequences be damned?

  • gus

Mike Bell, while I agree with your RED FLAGS and CONCERNS about Cain and his campaign, thus far, and Cain’s Campaign’s inability to deal with this sleaze. I disagree with your conclusions.
The ability to do damage control when a campaign has serious SLEAZE issues, is not a POSITIVE.

Herman Cain does not have a SCANDAL. Herman Cain is learning how to play HARD BALL.

There is no SCANDAL here. And there WILL BE future NON-SCANDALS, for whomever the ELITE MEDIA and the COMFORTABLE REPUBLICANS find as a THREAT.

The issue here, is not how CAIN handles a MADE UP SCANDAL. The issue here, is that MADE UP SCANDALS are EXPECTED.

  • Ok, cutting through all the candidate-bashing and the usual chip-on-the-shoulder noise around here, we do have a few things that can be said with relative certainty:

    1. Karl Rove is a snake. A roly-poly one to be sure, but still a snake. Rove is for Rove, and no one else.

    2. The leftie media is once again in full malfeasance mode, and behaving like an arm of the Democrat Party.

    3. Herman Cain’s team, or at least certain members of his team, should be fired for gross incompetence in the way they mishandled this whole matter. Who are these people, leftovers from a high school class presidency campaign?

We also clearly do NOT know a few things:

    1. We don’t know what actually happened between Cain and the women in question, and may never know.

    2. As of now, there is no smoking gun pointing to who dredged up the 20-year-old case and manipulated it into a huge issue. Dems? Media lefties? Other Republican candidates’ operatives?

    3. And finally, we don’t know what will happen next. Another great reason for a wait-and-see attitude regarding who to back in the Republican field.

  • chilipalmer

Why give this abject failure and parasite Karl Rove so much attention and authority, calling him a “Republican Strategist?” You must know by now he has no interest in saving this country. His goals are the opposite of what I thought this website was about. Karl Rove is more of an enemy to right of center America than the democrats are. This kind of post does more harm than good, I’m sorry to say.

    Retire05
Another rare occasion where I agree with you completely.

And yet another instance in the growing list of Cain trying to have it both ways on something.
First he had no idea what they were talking about. Then he “remembers” when some details were revealed. Anybody else here been accused of sexual harassment? In at least one case, it ended in a lump sum settlement. How does that slip one’s mind?
Also, his story of saying “you’re about the same height as my wife”.
Good grief. The pickup line police should arrest him if nothing else. 60% of the women I see every day are about the same height as my wife. There’s no reason to say that to somebody with the accompanying hand gesture except as a flirtation. Did he ever tell any male employees “you’re about the same height as my brother”. So I’m calling BS on that one, and that’s IF we accept that it was as simple as that. It probably wasn’t. No company would make a settlement with a woman if that were all that was alleged.
So, again Cain is going to obstinately stand his ground rather than admit a mistake.
I can’t wait to have that character flaw in the White House for another 4 years.

  • MaxTruth

Cain’s staff let him down big time. You don’t let your boss do an interview when he is totally unprepared. It’s not the charge that is serious. It is Cain’s total lack of preparation and making things up as he goes. His interview on Greta was unprofessional and left more questions unanswered than answered.

Let Cain be Cain is not a good political strategy.

  • Rose

SHADES OF BILL CLINTON! I HATE agreeing with Karl Rove about anything, but one thing he is dead right about: “You don’t start out by saying there’s nothing to this whatsoever and then go into we don’t know anything about and then go yes I know it but I didn’t do it.”

That is a Democrat Weasel response – and Karl didn’t make Cain do that. Cain had 10 days warning, and that is what he DECIDED to do, on the Presidential Campaign level.

    For me, it’s a pattern:
Creates and Directs a Diversity Program.
Pulls out of GOP contention for office and promptly donates to the Democrat in that race…
Support for Diversity doesn’t make him not a Conservative, because he will change his stance on Abortion to be “with no exceptions, against” and that puts him to the Right of other GOP candidates ( in that Senate race).
“The housing bubble story is a myth”.
“The Federal Reserve does not need an audit”.
That Rick Perry is a racist over THAT hunting lease sign. So “Jesse Jackson”!
    Flip Flops over Abortion.
Comes up with policy that he cannot describe, explain, or support. I.E., 9-9-9.

Just heard a report from The Mark Davis show (sometime sub for Rush Limbaugh Show) that Block (the cigarette man in the infamous Cain commercial and his sometimes campaign manager) has announced that the campaign has received $250,000 via the internet since this sexual harrassment story about Cain broke yesterday.
Mark wondered how long it would be before the left was blaming Cain for leaking the story just for the sympathy and kneejerk contributions it would bring.
    Food for thought, I suppose.

  • kansas

The more I see of Karl Rove, the more disgusting he becomes.

  • retire05

I knew about the Politico story Sunday night, but since it is four pages long, decided to wait until yesterday morning to read it. When I turned Fox on yesterday a.m. Bill Hemmer was already saying that the Cain campaign had known the story was coming down the pike for 10 days. That was 11 hours before Rove made his comments.

Funny how all the Cainiacs want to now bash Rove for his comments on Cain’s absolutely dismal handling of this scandal. Yet, they were silent over the “rock” story. I guess as long as Rove is bashing another candidate, the Cainiacs are fine with it. Not once did the Cainiacs ask who was in a position in Texas politics to know about the rock or tip off the Washington Post so the WaPo could sent reporters to a remote part of Texas to question former school mates about a rock in a totally different county. Ummm, makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

Cain’s campaign were not ready for this. Perhaps they thought it would just go away, that Politico would never dare print it. Frankly, it shows nothing but how inept Cain’s campaign is. The campaign staff should have gotten together, created a story line and had every one stick to it. Instead, Cain went from “not really familiar with this issue” to doing a total 180 on Greta’s show last night, going so far to indicate that one of the women (after he had later claimed to know about only one of them) was a bad employee anyway. It was a useless comment and had no place in the interview. Not one person that has ever been wrongfully terminated has ever had the employer say “well, they were a good employee but we just got rid of them anyway”. It is ALWAYS said “They were a bad employee so we terminated them.” How this woman did, or did not do her job, was not part of the equasion, at least not now.

If Cain is not lying (and I think in part he is) he should force the National Restaurant Assoc. to release ALL the records on this issue. The onus is on Cain to prove he is being truthful But I don’t look for that to happen. And if the women were paid as little as he claims they were, even though there is a non-disclosure agreement, some publication is going to be willing to pay them for their story and provide them with legal defence, if for no other reason than to grab a headline and boost readership.

All we can do now is wait to see if another shoe drops. I suspect there is more to come. The left wing press will now go into full attack mode.

    OT.. related:

Once again, Politico only reports a piece of the story

[Cordaro, a former Catholic priest (1985-2003) and co-founder of the
Des Moines Catholic Worker group, is a known Christian anarchist who
“frequently participates in peace rallies involving civil disobedience” and
“frequently attends protests and gives lectures at school and community
    events in Nebraska and Iowa.”

Cordaro was been arrested numerous times and spent several months
in jails and prisons. “His protest efforts covered a wide range of issues
including nuclear weapons, the arms race, US foreign policies, nuclear
power and issues surrounding poverty in the USA.”

The self-proclaimed peace activist’s agenda is well-known to the State

I’ll bet the woman involved in the case Cain remembers is starting to get p’offed. It won’t be long before she speaks out and I wouldn’t blame her. There was a settlement and Cain is running his mouth.

All he had to say was there was a claim of sexual harassment. It was investigated and no wrong doing on my part was found. The woman was offered a settlement and left the company. That’s the facts as I know them.

    The Herman Cain Allegations

[Many staffers were struck throughout the 2008 campaign by how often leaks about certain candidates would come out right before previously scheduled media availabilities or TV appearances, forcing a candidate to immediately answer difficult questions to a horde of rabid journalists or duck the avail and make it seem even worse. Now Cain has this story drop at 8 PM on a Sunday night – whole cloth, with no evidence of investigation beyond calling the people named in the documents – a mere 12 hours before he’s supposed to have a full day of media availability in Washington, DC at the American Enterprise Institute and the National Press Club. I feel like I’ve seen this movie. There are only two candidates running this time who ran then, and I don’t think Ron Paul even has an oppo research arm. Curiouser and curiouser.]

    And you’re right again retire.

Rove is their best friend when he’s saying what they want to hear. Then he’s the enemy for pointing this out.
I took a photo with Rove a few years ago and had it on my desk at work, but I turned it around to face the wall after the Christine O’Donnell thing.
No question he’s a moderate to say the least, but what dog does he have in the fight? He’s in the Bush camp and they hate Perry, so he can’t be shilling for Perry.

Anyway, for a laugh, look at all the names on the Cain bandwagon posting here.
Then go back to the week after Perry got in the race. You’ll see that a lot of them leapt off one bandwagon and onto another.

I’m still for Bachmann, and that’s my chosen candidate until she quits the race or loses it. But you won’t see me on here being her apologist like some people have been for Perry and now are for Cain.

Cain, just admit when you’re wrong. That will make you 10 times better than the current Occupy White House potus. Or keep stubbornly trying to have it both ways and watch your candidacy fizzle.

  • GGMac

Who’s behind the destroy-Cain campaign? Who benefits the most if Cain is successfully shoved out? Romney? Not really. He can’t campaign against Obamacare without looking like a total lying fool – which means Obama can use Romney to HIS OWN advantage.
RINO-in-chief Rove has absolutely NO political future in DC if Cain wins the Oval. Perry is too much in the conservative corner: if Perry won the Oval, Rove would out then as well.
Rove’s only security is Romney – who has little mind of his own, and is merely another McCain, i.e., “Obama-light”.

Both Rove and Obama need Cain destroyed. Both are polished in methods and means. Rove says he knew 10 days previously that this was going to break. HOW did he know? WHO gave him the information?

Obama is the consummate pro at destroying opponents…”enemies”. He associates only with others who have similar expertise. Two of particular interest:
1- Charles Ogletree. Law prof at Harvard; mentor to both Michelle and Barry when they were respectively students there; still a friend of both Obamas. Ogletree represented that other Harvard law prof – the friend of Barry’s who was arrested for breaking/entering and who was the impetus for Barry’s “…police acted stupidly” remark.

2- Janet Napolitano. Barry’s totally unqualified pick to be head of Homeland Security; history of ‘women’s rights’ activism.

What Ogletree and Napolitano have in common – besides their cozy closeness with Obama – is that they were both part of Anita Hill’s legal team in the 1991 attempt to destroy the life and career of Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

So who’s behind this attempt to do the same to Herman Cain? Rove? Rove/Romney? Obama? Obama/Romney?

There are aspects of this that make me wonder whether – in the name of political power/survival – Rove, or even Rove/Romney – is/are being a stalking horse for Obama.

  • Gary

    bg
Sorry to call you out here, but you’re simply not being objective.

When the Lewinsky story broke, there were already years of allegations against Clinton. His team, wife included, did everything to sweep it under the rug.
James Carville even made fun of the accusers whom we now have much more reason to believe. He said, “Drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you’ll find.”
Now when that happened, was your first reaction to “yawn”?

You’re right to point out that Cain wasn’t arrested, but that is a moot point. It isn’t an issue of whether or not he broke the law. It is whether or not he made improper advances to a subordinate even while he was a married man.

By his own telling this morning on F&F, he said he made a comment about the woman being about the same height as his wife. What could he possibly be getting at? This incident may have been nipped in the bud before it rose to the level of sexual harsassment, but there’s no question that’s where it was headed. What on earth could that comment possibly serve to accomplish if not flirtation?

    Be objective. Be intellectually honest.
Cain doesn’t have to be perfect, he just has to admit when he’s made a mistake. He seems unwilling to do so.
Romney has. Newt has. Perry has. Bachmann has.
Cain is obstinate in the face of the facts. We already have that guy for president. We want something else now.

#109 – Who’s behind it? Why wouldn’t you consider Team Perry if it must be a Republican?

There’s an awful lot of money riding on his candidacy. Alot to lose. Maybe even some former Dem money – you know, the guys who’re familiar with dirty play.

Cain has taken his spot up there with Romney. One poll, done over the past few weeks, shows Cain even beating Perry in Texas: oops. Bad numbers like that must have come to Team Perry’s attention…

Romney can handle Cain – he did well in the last debate w/ the 9-9-9 tax issue. Romney even did well against Newt. So I don’t think he has to stoop to this level against a fellow Republican. No, Cain, Romney and Gingrich have all done well in the debates.

We know Perry can’t compete on stage. In fact, he was telling us after the last one that he wouldn’t compete in anymore debates – before changing his mind. He’s forced to win back support in other ways – ways that aren’t nearly as effective as a convincing, appealing debate performance – but what might that entail, other than shaking hands as fast as you can?

Someone with alot of ground to make up in little time – with one big option eliminated – might have to stoop to an ugly sneak attack.

Say what you will. Cain does NOT suffer from that curse called total recall.

The Curious Case Of Herman Cain (The Note) – ABC News

“I am unaware of any sort of settlement,” Cain said, referring to reported payouts to two women who worked with him in the 1990′s. “I hope it wasn’t for money because I didn’t do anything.” http://abcn.ws/uBYU2m

But in a series of television interviews later in the day, Cain’s hazy memory of the events appeared to clear up.

“We ended up settling for what would have been a termination settlement quite frankly,” he told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, adding that the amounts of the payments were “maybe three months salary.”

And not long after that, in an interview with PBS’ Judy Woodruff, Cain offered this explanation: “I was aware an agreement was reached. The word ‘settlement’ versus the word ‘agreement’ you know, I’m not sure what they called it,” he said.
