Even Obama’s supporters laughed today when he said his latest $447 billion stimulus plan is fully paid for.

President Barack Obama, accompanied by Vice President Joe Biden, and others, holds up a copy of his American Jobs Act during a statement in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, Monday, September 12, 2011. (Yahoo)
Wow. Not even Obama’s supporters take him seriously.
From his speech today as posted at the White House website:
And the American Jobs Act is not going to add to the debt — it’s fully paid for. I want to repeat that. It is fully paid for. (Laughter.) It’s not going to add a dime to the deficit. Next week, I’m laying out my plan not only to pay for this jobs bill but also to bring down the deficit further. It’s a plan that lives by the same rules that families do: We’ve got to cut out things that we can’t afford to do in order to afford the things that we really need. It’s a plan that says everybody — including the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations — have to pay their fair share. (Applause.)
And just in case the White House changes the website here is a screen grab:

Well, he is the biggest spender in world history so you really can’t blame them for snickering a little bit.

We, at Robbing America Chronicle, contend that even the best of economic results in the job front in the next 12 months will not be enough to re-elect Obama in 2012 because there is an economic equivalent to Lehmann-2008 coming in 2012 – Greece.
Our piece demonstrates that Europe will sink into a financial crisis with Greece being the catalyst and that this will spread inevitably to the US. It will defeat Obama as sure as the crisis of 2008 would have defeated any Republican candidate.

So Carney is speaking that the outside economists with a PhD worth the paper they are printed on have said that Congress should pass this jobs bill without hesitation. Then in the same breath claimed that the Romer proposal and comments will get used in upcoming commercials about the failure of the first stimulus not working because the economy was in a deeper hole than anyone knew. Is he suggesting that their Phd’s on the paper they are printed on is not worthy? Could they not see that the economy was worse than anyone knew? Why so they have those Phd’s? Afterall they (WH) said they were the best ones we had in place to get our economy back in line? Now which is it? If the president is relying on the same kind of people with those so-called Phd’s, why in God’s name would I want to pass another stimulus based on those same theories?

Since the Republicans have not made many (or any that I can find) specific calls for spending cuts, this could end up being a classic case of snatching defeat form the jaws of victory.

Well Vigla let’s start with repealing Obamacare, Dodd/Frank regulations Bill and implementing tax reform. I realize these suggestions sound boring to you, but this is how we begin to instill some confidence.
Excessive regulations are stifling job creation amongst small business owners.
We need to pass the 3 trade bills that have been sitting on Obama’s desk collecting dust.
And we need to start drilling more oil here rather than giving billions to Brazil to drill offshore while Obama places a moratorium on ours.
As far as your comment “I prefer my well run, no frills, no controversy gov’t that has our interests in mind rather than the special interests” nothing could be further from the truth. This WH is overrun by lobbyists. And perhaps you may have heard of Fast and Furious, a scandal which at very least will have Holder found guilty of lying under oath and most likely ending up under Obama’s bus. New information surfacing, shows email communications with WH, show there was indeed knowledge of these gun sales to Mexican Drug Cartel. And by the way Fast and Furious was funded by Obama’s stimulus money just in case you wondered.
No, I suggest before you claim victory for another term where Obama remains in office, you might face reality, that this administration has worked against USA interests both foreign and domestically since taking office and the only record Obama has is one of utter failure. Americans do not vote for failure.

And what does that say about millions of your fellow citizens, who believe that these two deserve another four years?
But then I read the comments on this site and others, and I see totally unrealistic expectations for marginal candidates and impossible-to-pass issues. When do you people begin to see reality? When do you give up your cartoonish vision of a right-wing, God-fearing fortress America when you have so many millions of citizens arrayed against you?
Even Reagan wasn’t the mythical Reagan of today’s cartoon-conservative wet-dreams while he was in the White House. Yes, he was a conservative, and a very eloquent one, but he was also a master of pragmatism. If Reagan were running today, half of the commenters on this site would be bashing him and still screaming for Sarah or, even more laughably, Ron Paul or Herman Cain.
For many of you, one small deviation from ideological purity is enough to smack the RINO label on someone. Some of you folks are going to run out of candidates. Many of you already back one who isn’t running and who has no chance of winning. Why don’t you try a write-in campaign? That sounds like a winner. Add Marco Rubio to the ticket while you’re at it. Voila! You have just described what the Tea Parties, most Democrats, and a lot of Republicans also want. That is not what you are getting from the Obama administration.
Maybe what you really need is a better idea of what the Tea Parties and some Republicans actually stand for, instead of what their political enemies try to pretend they stand for. I know you’d be surprised, because you’ve soundly mischaracterized them, yourself.
The Tea Parties are aligning with the Republicans mostly because the Democratic Party has thrown it’s Liberals out. What’s left of the Democratic Party at the national level is committed to economic policies that are nothing short of disastrous.
The notion, that the way to deal with a recession is to cut both tax rates and government spending, may be counterintuitive to you, but it is economically sound. The proper stimulus for this recession is to reduce the drag on the economy. The way to do that is to cut both tax rates and government spending. When that happens, money is injected back into the economy more quickly and efficiently than the government can manage. The consistent result of such policies are enhanced tax revenues (at lower tax rates, no less!) and more jobs, everywhere.
We have the data, in the form of experiments performed by a series of American administrations in response to recessions, which are a natural, if brutal, part of any economy. The strong desire of the Tea Parties is to put an end to this artificially-prolonged recession, end the cruelty of high unemployment rates, and put all our people, including our vulnerable black population which is suffering disproportionately from unemployment, back on the road to achievement and prosperity.
The idea behind The Stimulus was that greatly enhanced government spending on the scale of that of the end of World War II would stimulate the economy and yield a rebound from the recession, and lower our high unemployment rate. This has been called a Keynesian stimulus, even though it goes far beyond anything Keynes ever recommended. The proponents of The Stimulus said the unemployment rate should be back to almost full employment (5.4%) in 18 months.
That didn’t happen. Instead, the recession has been prolonged, and unemployment has deepened. This economy is behaving like the economy of the ’30s, where a stock market bubble led to a recession, and vigorous attempts to use the government to stimulate employment were followed by the Great Depression.
Barack Obama, and his entire administration, are the type of people that love to buy good things for their people. Their ideas work great in an already-growing economy. That’s not what they had after poor government policy led to a housing bubble, which burst and led to a bad recession. The simple fact is that neither Barack Obama’s, nor his administration’s, temper fits our current times. He may think he’s described an effective prescription for increased employment, but the evidence from his policies so far is that this is not the right time for them.
The Tea Parties are exactly right. The reason they are right is because the proper stimulus for a recession is a reduction in the drag by the government.
Nelle commented:
We conservatives do need to make an effort to make it clear that we do not believe in sending sick, limbless children outside without coats to forage for dinner in dumpsters during snowstorms, just to keep our taxes down.
Some liberals would tell you that we’re just that heartless. We don’t help ourselves by always calling for tax cuts and always opposing increases, even on non-taxpaying, hugely profitable corporations and hyper-wealthy individuals. We should focus on who is actually not paying their fair share (lookin’ at you, Buffet/Berkshire Hathaway, GE). If it’s legitimate and helpful that the most profitable/wealthiest pay nothing, we need to explain why, in a way that reaches and convinces millions. And we should demand lots of regulation, while we’re at it–to force gov’t to get their busy hands and noses out of anything the constitution didn’t tell them they can do.

And again, he was right, he did not add a dime to the deficit, he added trillions, in the shortest amount of time ever recorded in US history, with no positive effect on the economy.
