Unruly Leftist Mob Cuffed and Pepper-Sprayed in NYC, 80 Arrested (Video)

New York police pepper sprayed and arrested 80 members of a far left mob after they marched to Union Square in New York City.
They were chanting, “This is what democracy looks like,” before the police took them down.
City Room Blog reported:
The police made scores of arrests on Saturday as hundreds of people, many of whom had been encamped in the financial district as part of a lengthy protest, marched north to Union Square. As darkness fell, large numbers of officers were deployed on streets near the encampment in Zuccotti Park, at Broadway and Liberty Street, where hundreds more people had gathered.
Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman, said in a statement, “There were approximately 80 arrests, mainly for disorderly conduct by individuals who blocked vehicular and pedestrian traffic, but also for resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and, in one instance, for assault on a police officer.”
Protest organizers estimated that about 85 people were arrested and that about five were struck with pepper spray. Among those was Chelsea Elliott, 25, who said that she was sprayed after shouting “Why are you doing that?” as an officer arrested a protester at East 12th Street.
“I was on the ground sobbing and couldn’t breathe,” she said. The continuing protests, against a financial system that participants say favors the rich and powerful over ordinary citizens, started last Saturday and were coordinated by a New York group called the General Assembly.
Many of those taking part have slept in Zuccotti Park, which is private, using it as a base. In the early afternoon hundreds of people left the park and moved north toward Union Square. Witnesses said that for much of the route, protesters spilled from sidewalks onto streets and added that the police used long orange nets at Fifth Avenue and 14th Street in an apparent attempt to block the march from proceeding.

And beside, I read in many articles on the Net, that this was not a left Mob crowd. People from all sides of the spectrum, came marching to denounced the corruption on Wall Street (Democrats, Republicans, independants, etc). This is why the Police attacked the crowd. They don’t want you to unite against corruption, they want you to fight between each other so they can continue their corruption without you noticing it..

Not much chance of getting pepper sprayed for picking up the trash after our rallies. We don’t block traffic or shove the police when they ask us to get out of the road. As long as we can express ourselves at the voting booth and on a soapbox we have all the tools we need. If you think this is a police state action you lack basic perspective. These “protesters” went there with the intent of disrupting legitimate business and the intent of occupying and denying their fellow citizens access to public property such as roads and sidewalks. They are welcome to gather and say their peace, then go home. They went looking for confrontation and finally forced the issue until they found it. There was no possibility of any other outcome, this was what they wanted.

I play golf with the Chief of Police, and he is constantly saying he wished other groups for which he has to provide crowd control and other services would be as well organized, polite, clean, and well behaved as TEA Party groups. Ours often top 10,000, and he could probably send Barney Fife and Goober and feel the situation would be perfectly safe.

THis may come a shock to you, but even though it was Saturday, a lot of Americans actually had to get to work that day, to pay their bills, eat food, buy clothes to wear etc. and the streets were blocked by caterwaulering temper tantruming spoiled brats who despite their quite adequate disposable income ability to sprawl their bodies across public routes blocking other, productive people who have to work to make ends meet, thanks to oppressive taxation and debt dumped on their innocent heads by the same camp of greedy Democrats. What these people did was a violation of law because they intended to expand the “alleged” protest outside of the previously approved area.
The protesters violated several other laws by blocking the public’s right of way on the sidewalks and the streets.

I’m surprised to see the majority here commenting negatively about the Wall St. protesters. They may be lefties, but surely you aren’t siding with the criminals on Wall St? The Tea Party and some on the left – even those I would normally have no use for – do have a few ideas in common. They should be allies – not enemies. It’s the elites vs. the rest of us. Many of the issues which pit left against right (e.g. abortion, gay marriage) aren’t as important.
Between the elites on wall st. and the lefty protesters (if that’s what they were) – I side w/ the lefties in this case. There should be MASSIVE protests on Wall St. and against the banks in Europe and America.
