It’s Worse Than We Thought… Obama Loses NY Times Lib David Brooks

It’s worse than we thought.
Losing New York 9, a district held by democrats for 88 years, is one thing.
Losing liberal New York Times columnist David Brooks is something entirely different.

Even so-called conservative David Brooks has lost that hopey-changey tingly feeling.
The courtship has turned sour.
The New York Times reported:

I’m a sap, a specific kind of sap. I’m an Obama Sap.

When the president said the unemployed couldn’t wait 14 more months for help and we had to do something right away, I believed him. When administration officials called around saying that the possibility of a double-dip recession was horrifyingly real and that it would be irresponsible not to come up with a package that could pass right away, I believed them.

I liked Obama’s payroll tax cut ideas and urged Republicans to play along. But of course I’m a sap. When the president unveiled the second half of his stimulus it became clear that this package has nothing to do with helping people right away or averting a double dip. This is a campaign marker, not a jobs bill.

It recycles ideas that couldn’t get passed even when Democrats controlled Congress. In his remarks Monday the president didn’t try to win Republicans to even some parts of his measures. He repeated the populist cries that fire up liberals but are designed to enrage moderates and conservatives.

He claimed we can afford future Medicare costs if we raise taxes on the rich. He repeated the old half-truth about millionaires not paying as much in taxes as their secretaries. (In reality, the top 10 percent of earners pay nearly 70 percent of all income taxes, according to the I.R.S. People in the richest 1 percent pay 31 percent of their income to the federal government while the average worker pays less than 14 percent, according to the Congressional Budget Office.)

This wasn’t a speech to get something done. This was the sort of speech that sounded better when Ted Kennedy was delivering it…

There’s more.

    Liberalism is mental illness.

Ya, he could have saved himself some time and listened to us early. We’ve been saying he is a sap for years.

When the president unveiled the second half of his stimulus it became clear that this package has nothing to do with helping people right away or averting a double dip.

And what, pray tell, Mr. Brooks, is there in the first “stimulus” that helps people?

It’s amazing what happens when someone makes their decisions using their brain (logic) rather than their heart (emotion).

  • dfbaskwill

And yet who will Mr. Brooks “pull the lever” (or “hang the chad”) for in 2012? As if there is any doubt. You aren’t fooling me, David.

  • Spider

We have totally cheapened the office of the presidency. It will take 100 years to restore the honor and prestige the position once held.

  • MariaA

I wonder why grown men like David sometimes behave like a lost puppy, looking for his master.

  • edward cropper

I don’t need any confirmation from this flaky CREEP for anything.
He is a Lib and he can stay a Lib

  • Bill Mitchell

So basically Brooks is admitting that for 4 years now he has been a clueless moron? Well he may be an idiot but at least he is an honest idiot.

  • Bill Mitchell

I have always been amused by the fact that the NYTimes resident “Conservative” never agrees with Republicans about anything and agrees with Democrats on everything.

Poor David needs a new iron and some Sta-Flo Starch.

    Babsy commented:

“Liberalism is a mental illness” is a really stupid thing to say at a web site frequented by Tea Partiers, who welcome Liberals on a platform of economic reform – because they need as many voters as they can get.

It’s an intentional insult, designed to turn away a group of people who could be decisive in the next election, and only someone who wants to weaken the Tea Parties by making them look mean-spirited and politically inept would be interested in diverting discussion, about a bellwether article that indicates that Liberals may be shifting away from support of Obama, to a discussion about being nasty to those curious potential allies who might wander here because of this post.

Ezra Klein is what passes as a conservative in New York. One of the objectives of the Tea Parties should be to take BOTH California and New York. That means getting people who think of themselves as Liberal to join in the discussion, on the Tea Parties side.

But then, Babsy knows that, and Babsy is not concerned at all about strengthening the Tea Parties, or having an actual win for a Tea Party-suported candidate who might be conservative.

Maybe you should’ve vetted The Clown Prince, Davey boy, instead of being so impressed with his “perfectly creased pants.” Those of us in flyover country knew what would happen if Mr. Historic were elected. And I imagine you were convinced we were all ignorant hayseeds. Cry me a river, Jackass.

The cult has no furthur use for Obama. Everyone understands who Obama is . His ability to succeed at lies, deception, and blame has expired. Obama can no longer move the agenda forward to establish absolute dominion of Satan’s counterfit kingdom . He is about to be Dominique Strauss Kahnned .

    Mr Brooks,

You have spent the last few years bashing anyone who did not drink the koolaid. You have propped up this liberal disaster and praised the ground it/they contaminate. You have put your faith and words behind the worst of American political ideology.

Then the pablum: “I’m a sap”.

Nope. You are an ahole with a pulpit crafting words a false god-ism. You took a radical left community organizer and his handlers and made them royalty.

    For this, you should resign.

  • patman

You are an ahole with a pulpit crafting words (FOR) a false god-ism.

This guy played old lib Mark Shield’s whipping boy on PBS too long for anyone to take anything he says too seriously.
Now that he’s at the NY Times he deserves even less.
