It hasn’t even reached land but the liberals at Think Progress have already blamed global warming climate change for Hurricane Irene.
It’s Global Warming!… We need more Chinese windmills.
Yes, they really went there.
Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the Outer Banks of North Carolina as a Category Two storm, and is expected to track a path of destruction up the densely populated Atlantic coast, with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordering the first-ever mandatory evacuation of low-lying areas of the city. As the U.S. government report “Global Climate Change Impacts in the US” summarized in 2009, warming of the oceans is causing Atlantic hurricanes to become more intense and dangerous:
The destructive potential of Atlantic hurricanes has increased since 1970, correlated with an increase in sea surface temperature. An increase in average summer wave heights along the U.S. Atlantic coastline since 1975 has been attributed to a progressive increase in hurricane power. The intensity of Atlantic hurricanes is likely to increase during this century with higher peak wind speeds, rainfall intensity, and storm surge height and strength. Even with no increase in hurricane intensity, coastal inundation and shoreline retreat would increase as sea-level rise accelerates, which is one of the most certain and most costly consequences of a warming climate.
Below, ThinkProgress Green explores in more detail how Hurricane Irene has been made more destructive by the combustion of hundreds of billions of tons of fossil fuels.
Oceanic Warming. Greenhouse pollution is causing the world’s oceans to warm. Sea surface temperatures in the region where Hurricane Irene formed and along its track are around 0.5°C warmer than they were about 30 years ago. “This rise is simulated pretty well by climate models forced by anthropogenic changes in greenhouse gases and aerosols, implicating these as the probable cause,” Dr. Doug Smith, the climate scientist who leads the Met Office Decadal Climate Prediction System tells ThinkProgress. This increased heat adds about 10 to 20 miles to the top potential speed of the hurricane’s winds. Storm surge increases proportionally to the square of the wind speed, meaning a 10 percent increase in hurricane wind speed means a 20 percent increase in storm surge. Climate scientists are debating how global warming and natural variability are interacting to change the intensity of Atlantic storms overall…
Back in the real world… Global hurricane activity has actually decreased to the lowest level in 30 years since the 1970s.

The environmentalnuts hubris has no bounds. Hell here in White mountains of Az in the Apache/Sitgreaves National forest just had the largest wild fire on record. 500,00+ acres destroyed. The environuts like the center for biodiversity based in Tucson AZ have fought the logging and cattle industry to keep them out of the forest. Result the forest was grossly overgrown. When that happens mother nature takes over and mother nature doesn’t give a rats a$4$ about the mexican stopped owl, the mexican grey wolf, the so called endangered flowers, the frogs and snails. She just clears out everything, and she can wait 10 human generations to reforest it. The environuts will go out into the devastation and say “look here is a plant that is growing that we haven’t seen in 100 years”. Never mind that tens of millions of trees, plants and wildlife are gone in a mater of a few weeks.

Let’s rely on scientific data from questionable sources,so we can toss around trillions of dollars we don’t have, to give to people most undeserved,and accounted by shysters known for profligate and wasteful spending.
We can fix this problem by raising a bunch of taxes, er cap and trade. And then when we get trillions of dollars, we can go around the country insulating homes with actual dollars. On September 8, 1900 a hurricane hit the Texas island city of Galveston. The storm hit the coast line with gale forced winds of 145 mph, compared to the 125 mph of Katrina. When the storm has passed, almost one in every five citizens of Galveston were dead. Out of the 38,000 residents, 8,000 were dead. It has since been referred to as the Great 1900 Storm. Considered the second worst hurricane in our national history.
Was that due to “climate change?” Did mankind contribute to that horrible storm that took so many lives?

Looks like Irene has been downgraded to a Class 1 hurricane this morning. That fact sorta shreds their theory, but I’m sure progressives won’t let that get in the way of their spin (no pun intended).

Libs and Lefties will use any excuse to make Man the center of the Universe and also pick the taxpayers pockets. . . and they were usually the students in school (on mommy & daddy’s money or a government grant) that took easy courses like poli-sci because they scored so low on math & science. .they do not understand data!
Hurricanes have been around for so long . . . from earth’s early days billions of years ago. . .how long has man been tracking & recording? Heck, we didn’t land on this continent until the 1500′s. . .Does 1938 Hurricane ring a bell?
And though they predicted bad hurricanes these past few years, the season fizzled. Barely a storm hit land.
And now Hurricane Irene is losing steam. . as I write this only Cat 1 with winds less than 90 mph and a poorly formed eye. .and it hasn’t even crossed land yet which weakens it more. .
One reason these storms do bad things is that MAN is so arrogant and build where we ought not too. . like on barrier islands (reason they are called barriers and rarely have big trees growing on them naturally). . or we build in low lying areas like New Orleans. .
In the end, for all our knowledge, we still know very little how our planet works and Mother Nature still reigns supreme!

Wouldn’t be so bad but for the fact they were informed of it, then even continued doing so and showed no shame whatsover or intent to discontinue. .

1775 there was a hurricane hitting Newfoundland. Deathtoll was roughly 4,000. In the 18th century there were several hurricanes that moved up to Massechusetts and Virginia.
This has happened for centuries, but the left and the media don’t care.
I remember, several years back, when they had those massive floods in Germany, the media was quick to proclaim that this was the worst flooding ever. However, someone went ahead and checked the records and found that the flood levels of the rivers in question had been significantly higher several times before. Whoops.
