Captain of “Audacity of Hope” Gaza Flotilla Ship Arrested After Leaving Port Without Permission (Video)

Guess who?

Code Pink communists and Obama supporters Ann Wright and Medea Benjamin confront Greek authorities after the ship was apprehended off the coast of Greece.

Greek officials stopped “The Audacity of Hope” Gaza Flotilla II ship and arrested the captain after they slipped out of port without permission.

YNet News reported on the pro-Hamas activists:

Greek authorities have arrested the captain of a boat that was to be part of a Gaza-bound flotilla trying to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory, officials said Saturday.

The 60-year-old captain, whose name was not released by authorities, was being held at Piraeus police headquarters and will remain there until a court hearing Tuesday.

Greece’s coast guard said the captain of the “Audacity of Hope” faces charges of trying to leave port without permission and of endangering the lives of the boat’s passengers. The latter charge is a felony.

The “Audacity of Hope” was carrying 36 passengers, four crew and about 10 members of the media. Its attempt to sail Friday night from the port of Perama, near Athens, was thwarted by coast guard speedboats.

The pro-Hamas Islamo-leftists are now fasting outside the US embassy in Athens and calling on the US to defend their right to break the Gaza blockade.

I can’t wait to hear how luxe Greek jails are!

They’re going to earn their protestor strips this weekend, while we celebrate America!

  • Joe College

My guess is that Obama guaranteed to buy some Greek debt in exchange for the Greeks sabotaging the ship. After Obama got stung so badly in his Netanyahu exchange (and by his own Democrats), he does not want that ship with that name coming into hostile contact with Israeli forces.

Let’s face it, Greece would do anything now for a dollar.

  • DaMav

Isn’t the media complicit in this crime? Did they try to resist the departure? How is this different from a reporter signing on to cover a bank robbery and leaving in a car full of break in tools headed for the vault?

  • toongoon

So filled with hate are these people that they just had to leave port without permission.
Obviously, Greece knows these are dangerous people. They hate America and American solders (by celebrating their deaths) but they end their video by hiding behind the American flag.

For those who don’t know, Greece is very good ally of Israel. Last year, when Greece was in deep trouble, Israel was one of the first countries to chime in and say the Greek people have to helped.

shouldn’t these bozos be tried for treason in the US?

If during WWII, an american was found to be conspiring against one of America’s allies, you were not looked at as “exercising your first amendent”. Israel is an ally of America, NOT Obama, but America, so if you are seeking one of America’s ally’s destruction, aren’t you in fact against American itself, and therefore committing treason?

(yes, I know Code Pink hates America, the Consitution, the US military… wonder how they live with themselves with all this hate, very sad.)

Thanks for that. I thought Greece was not friendly towards Israel. If they have pivoted over the last few years it is probably in response to Turkey’s growing hostility to Israel. Remember that Cyprus is still divided into Greek and Turkish zones, with a no-man’s land along the border.

here is an article that sort of explains the alliance

    http://debka.com/article/21080/

“Major outstanding issues still cloud the relationship, debkafile’s sources stress, such as Turkey’s close economic and intelligence collaboration with Iran, Erdogan’s ambition to lead the Arab and Muslim worlds and the degree to which Israel can join Turkish policies that are inimical to its own.

Urged by Obama, Erdogan has already taken a major step towards Israel by drawing the fire of the second pro-Hamas flotilla this year.
    2. Ankara’s anti-Israeli steps in the past year and the Erdogan government’s entente with the Iranian government and President Ahmad Ahmadinejad – and consequent paring down of the US-Israel military presence in Turkey – led Israel to strengthen its political and military ties with Greece and former Soviet nations on the shores of the Black Sea. Today, the Israeli Air Force is permitted to operate out of bases in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania; Israel is quietly helping Athens ease its economic ills through connections in the world of international finance.”

The idea that these lamebrains are fasting is hilarious.

Fasting is what Catholics used to do before receiving Holy Communion. It is not the same thing as a hunger strike.

And why at the American embassy? Do they think Blowhard is going to order an attack on Athens because the Greek officials wouldn’t let them sail?

This is typical leftist lunacy: Senseless and self-indulgent posturing for the cameras.

Yet, they’ve named their boat the Audacity of Hope. I leave it to you to try to figure out the senselessness of leftist behavior.

By the way, why isn’t Cindy Sheehan showing up at the grifter’s golf courses? The media, after televising her nightly for months during the Bush years, made her persona non grata as soon as the grifter arrived on the scene.

I also found this – http://www.jpost.com/International/Article.aspx?id=226043 – which said that no humanitarian aid is actually on these boats.

  • If our schools and media actually did their JOBS to inform and educate instead of propaganda matched with actual witholding of information, people wouldn’t be so surprised Greece can be at a minimum cordial with Israel.
How many Americans remember when it happened or were taught the modern history that Muslim Turkey invaded Greek Cyprus, and grabbed half of it, the island is still split today, under big UN mandate with a BIG HONKIN’ WALL separating Muslims from Christians?

Do we see Code Puke protesting the Turkish occupation of Cyprus and the oppression of the WALL there?
Greeks do not view Turkey as a warm and huggy neighbor, but as a enemy which has attacked Greece and seized Greek territory before, and could do it again if it ever perceives a weakness on Greece’s part.

ALl humnitraian aid gets thru via the United Nations offices tasked expressly for that. It has to be funneled thru he UN and warehouses FIRST to make sure no WEAPONS are hidden inside it. TONS of everything DAILY, a normal, setady, abundance stream of normal living necessities including televisions, silks, gold jewelry… ie plenty of life’s finer things proving that Gaza is NOT a basket case in ANY measure.

Flotilla of LIES. They only get away with it because people do not know there is a very organized and efficient system set up, which wouldn’t even be necessary if Gaza wasn’t being used as a missile platform for attacks against Israel. The corrupt media is NOT going to INFORM ANYONE of the facts of the situation – in order to enable and maintain the LIE.

still little, nay, no notice of this..

[The United Nations, United States, European Union, Britain, Canada, Greece, France, the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and Israel have called on organizers of Freedom Flotilla II to abandon their plans in an effort to avoid a repeat of the violent confrontation between Israeli commandos and activists of the first Freedom Flotilla on May 31, 2010. That encounter claimed the lives of nine passengers and injured nine Israeli soldiers, causing international outcry and tensions between Turkey and Israel.

    [..]

The opening of the Rafah crossing ended a four-year land blockade of Gaza jointly imposed by Egypt and Israel after Hamas’ forceful takeover of the area in 2007. The blockade was intended to limit the access of rockets and other war materials into Gaza that could be used against Israeli civilians. Israel’s naval blockade was not implemented until 2009 when Israel launched Operation Cast Lead in response to continued rocket fire from Gaza.

Israel has maintained corridors for the transfer of humanitarian aid and other goods into the region. In April, the deputy head of the Red Cross in Gaza, Mathilde Redmatn, confirmed the effectiveness of these routes when stating, “There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”]

I hope the Greeks keep them on board for weeks, they have the right; until every last one of them is begging to go home and for the rest of their lives break out in allergic hives everytime they even hear the word, “ship.”

On another cheerful note: they should be being hit with daily docking fees, port fees, harbor police fees, inspection fees … and who is footing those unexpected bills?

But then, the ships would fill up with hard core terrorists to replace the weenies… but then again if THAT’s the case, the ships can be torpedoed as being loaded with combatants.

Maybe if Israel Defense minister Ehud Barak didn’t “exercise restraint” & only arm the soldiers who overtook the Marvi flotilla last time w/ mere paintball guns, yes paintball, to appease CNN/BBC these jerks from the Audacity flotilla wouldn’t be so brash & reckless. Notice the Greeks on the boat aare fully armed & seem quite ready to shoot if necessary. Like Israel doesn’t have enough problems w/o worrying about Codepink’s self-righteous statement. Isn’t there a way to go after these clowns legally for flying the American flag on this moronic operation. This is probably seen by all those countries in the region that Americans are backing this illegal stupidity. It really makes me mad that when they want to do stupid stuff like this they want to make sure to fly old glory, but are probably the same jack knobs who are against flying our colors at homes in the United States.
Sooner or later, hopefully sooner, these dolts are gonna find out they are not afforded the same protections and rights in these countries that they take for granted here. It would really be nice to see ALL of them thrown into a Greek jail for a while and then try the old crap of I am suppose to be given a phone call, or you never read me my Miranda warning, etc. And those media types on this ship should be given the same treatment as the Captain, as they are just as complicit as he is. It could be speculated that the flotilla is out to provoke violence.
