Obama Pledges US Financial Support to Bail Out Greece

Now Obama wants us to bail out Greece.

Greece is poised to receive the next installment of its bailout facility, and will likely get further rescue loans to prevent it from defaulting on its massive debts, European officials said Friday. After tripling the US deficit and with unemployment at 9.1% President Obama pledged US financial support to bail out Greece yesterday.
CNBC reported:

President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged European countries and bondholders to prevent a “disastrous” default by Greece and pledged U.S. support to help tackle the country’s debt crisis.

Obama, whose political prospects have suffered from persistently high unemployment and ballooning U.S. debt, has pinpointed the euro zone crisis as one foreign “headwind” hitting the U.S. economy.

After a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he stressed the importance of German “leadership” on the issue – a hint that he expects Berlin to help – while expressing sympathy for the political difficulties European Union countries face in helping a struggling member state.

“I’m confident that Germany’s leadership, along with other key actors in Europe, will help us arrive at a path for Greece to return to growth, for this debt to become more manageable,” Obama said.

“But it’s going to require some patience and some time. And we have pledged to cooperate fully in working through these issues, both on a bilateral basis but also through international and financial institutions like the IMF.”

Can’t find my copy of Article 1, Section 8 at the moment, but I’m pretty sure that bailing out foreign nations isn’t one of the enumerated powers given to Congress.

  • burt

No one ever ask me about bailing out Greece. Obama is a thief.

  • Black Sabbath

Doesn’t Congress have to approve this money or is this yet another way Obama does an end run around the new Congress (who we still have not been able to find after they went into hiding months ago) and do whatever he wants?

  • RaeMarie

NO! Absolutely NOT!! Congress had better tell him as much.

  • olm

    Absolutely not is right!
Beyond that, who’s going to bail us out?
There is onlly one answer to me that is making sense. Obama is not just out to destroy our economy, he’s taking aim at the world. I think that is completely paranoid but how in the hell else are we supposed to see this?

  • gus

You know what we need. We need Boehner to go gofling with Captain Fukk up.

    That’ll fix things.

  • succotash

    WTF?

I used to say the country was being run by 60’s people who never came down from their last trip on LSD. It now seems they’ve switched to Crack. Crackheads will sell their own mother; Obama and friends are selling out their own country.

    _________

ALL financial matters in the US must originate in the US House of Representatives, not the White House.

We can’t even bail ourselves out! Absolutely NO to money for Greece or anyone else. Why should we BORROW money to lend out?

  • gus

Chisum, Boehner is useless. How fvcking stupid is Boehner?? Being seen on a golf course with Obama is not a wise photo op. The country is in flames, and Boehner is going golfing.

Do you think they’ll have cocktails at the 19th hole.

  • aprilnovember811

    LIKE HELL!

  • Joe Redfield

I suppose El Presidente expects the grateful Greeks will help bail out California in due course.

  • Chisum

Gus, I can’t argue the visuals. I do think that Captain Ding Dong demanding strokes is hysterical…and typical.

One point in Boehner’s favor is that BO’s excuse for not submitting a budget for the last two years is, “Why bother. The House repubs will simply shoot it down.” He’ll moan and wail that the repubs won’t work with him. He’ll play the victim card, big time. Boehner is sort of boxed in.

Btw, that’s the excuse the dems are using for not submitting their own Medicare reform plan, too.

  • Black Sabbath

I’m telling you folks right now that Obama would never float this idea unless he had some way to do an end run around Congress or simply plans to ignore them (and the law) entirely like he did with the War Powers Act. What will Congress do in response? Censure him. So what does he care? In the end, you and I lose, not him.

  • Nancy

We’re in hock up to our eyebrows and this Marxist wants to give away more of our hard-earned money — even though TPTB in Washington are talking about raising taxes on American citizens to steal more money for the government. That makes a lot of sense — if your real purpose is to bankrupt the country.

Obama is such an ideologue that he can’t let go of the ideology even to save his presidency. He’s still trying desperately to spend us into oblivion in order to save the European welfare state and to turn us into one. And people say this guy can’t be beaten?

We may not beat him — but only if we can’t coalesce around a halfway decent candidate. This election is going to be about Obama and his attempts to wreck America. If enough people are determined to throw him out of office, even if they have to vote for a less-than-ideal candidate, he’ll be a one-term president, which is what he richly deserves. If people get hung up on “my candidate or no one” we’ll lose.

Now is not the time to demand perfection. Perfection is the enemy of good enough. Not one Republican candidate would have done what this man has done to us. Remember that on election day and vote. You won’t have another chance if Obama wins a second term.

This man is so clueless, we can’t pay our own bills, but he wants to pay someone elses. All the elite education in the world didn’t help this empty-suit.

My tax dollars better not go to bailing out ATHENS! I would rather bail out California and as far as that goes my official position on California is SKROOM!

Because Greeks deserve to retire at 55

  • jorgen

I live in the EU, so I heavily, seriously, absolutely etc applaud that! Thank you, US taxpayers!!!
Any chance you can do Portugal and Spain too?

But will Congress not have a word to say before this happens?

  • http://www.thehostages.wordpress.com/ MCPO Airdale

    No. no. no. NO!

  • Ipso Facto

First the Greeks piss away all their money by paying for people to retire at age 55 while also paying for them to have unconditional employment up until that time. Next they borrow money they have absolutely no way of paying back and thus they go (really) broke.

Then Obama, seemingly forgetting that we pissed away all of our money, and that we have also borrowed more then we can reasonably pay back, now wants to give money (that we don’t have) to the Greeks.

Exactly where is this money going to come from?

This is affirmative action in action. Just keep isolating people from having to be as responsible and capable as everyone else, and they grow up totally incapable of learning from their mistakes, unable to learn from negative feedback and believing that all they have to do to accomplish an objective is to peddle jive about it.

  • Mike

Bail out America first! Let’s get the budget deficit under $1 trillion (you know, like in the Bush years) and unemployment down to 5% or 6% (ditto). 9.1% unemployment, a staggering budget deficit and approaching the debt ceiling and we’re worried about Greece?

  • Rick

Is there any doubt that Obama wants to destroy America?

  • Bunni

This is insane….this psycho MUST be stopped by congress, senate, or whoever. He CAN’T be allowed to do this!

  • Paddy

The problem with this latest of Obama’s foreign policy idiocies is that Congress may not be able to prevent it. Geithner simply has to print more money while Obama tells Congress to YGFY.

  • Kingslayor

Just think this is the liberal idea of world community the U.S. citizen will pay for all the lack of fiscal dicipline thanks to obummer! I hope every liberal voting idiot get whats comming to your dumb @ss. Thats right OBUMMER just keep commiting political suicide!!!! Thats right your making history!!! The first illegal president and hopfully the last!!!

Welcome to hell. Enjoy your stay.

    Any bailout won’t work.

  • Andreas K.

“Other countries in the euro zone are going to have to provide them a backstop and support,” he said.

F*ck you Obama. Seriously f*ck you. Stay in DC you dipsh*t Yank. How much more shall we pour into this black hole? Germany isn’t wealthy anymore. It’s 2 trillion Euro in debt and the German gold reserves have last been seen in 2007. The other countries aren’t off any better.

Not one more cent for Greece! To hell with Greece. They wanted this. They voted for politicians who spent money like there’s no tomorrow. And to hell with all the PIGS. Not one cent of my tax money for those non-achievers and lazy buggers!

“Tonight we honor Angela Merkel, not for being denied her freedom, or even for obtaining her freedom, but for what she achieved when she gained her freedom,” Obama said.

Yeah, she achieved riding Germany into the ground and getting mocked by the Germans as “Mutti” (mommy) and Ferkel (piglet). Merkel is already overstaying her welcome. Her days are over.

  • Joanne

Obama is just looking for places to spend monies the Americans do not have to put them further into debt until there is no way up and out. Greece needs to go under, so it can rebuild. If people help them out, it will just be more of the same.

  • ChillytheAlaskan

If congress has to approve all this money Obama and Hillary are promising, it is just another empty promise, or LIE as most honest Americans call most of what Obama promises!

Can he do this through the world bank like he did with the funding for Soros Brazillion Oil drilling? Sure hope not, but if so the house needs to cut this off at the knees.

  • Scott

Funding Section eight breeding farms of illegal aliens in California and supporting Greek socialists…Is there nothing this government can’t do/sarc.

  • L.E. Liesner

It would be a better idea to tackle and solve our economic problems before worring about socialist Greece. Does Obama do that, hell no he puts more restriction and regulations on us so that our economy can tank faster. As Pogo once said “we have met the enemy and he is us”, it’s time to reverse coarse and point this ship in the right direction. “We the People” have been remiss in our duties for to long and look what it got us.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

…and pledged U.S. support to help tackle the country’s debt crisis.

As long as it doesn’t involve plunging the U.S. even further into debt, go for it.

  • Estragon

    What a travesty!

This isn’t about Greece – no one (except maybe the socialist Obama) wants to bail out their lazy butts. But if they default, all the major German and French banks, who foolishly bought their worthless bonds in the name of EU unity, are on the hook for the losses.

There is no benefit to prolonging the agony without ecstasy which is Greece, unless you have holdings in French or German banks. Greece will default eventually – their people riot at the prospect of the slightest economy – and the longer it is postponed, the worse the consequences for EU and the world.

Of course, Obama is only trying to postpone it long enough to have a chance at reelection. To hell with him.

    Graphic: Web of Debt
Obastard obviously never saw this- Greece owes Ireland, Italy Portugal and Spain.Italy owes France Germany, Ireland and Spain. Spain owes Portugal, Italy and Ireland. Oh I give up. Its so confusing. Look for yourselves. DO we want to be another green or red arrow?

  • Malinse

So It’s OK, in Obamas world, to reward the bad behavior of European socialism in it’s extreme: Greece, and give them worthless U.S. money, but supporting Israel in defense of their very lives against totalitarian islamo-fascists is somehow a bad thing.

    I see how they think.

ANYBODY BUT OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS IN 2012!!!!!!

  • Malinse

This is the end game for the Utopian Socialism the Democrats are so proud of and want us to emulate here in the U.S., and Obama and his mindless followers are still PROGRESSING at break neck speeds to try and accomplish it. But now they know they only have a little time left before the other Euro-entitlement-dynasties collapse and people ask: “what the he!! are you thinking?”

The problem can only be one thing:

LIBERALS ARE THE LAZIEST CREATURES ON THE PLANET!!
THEY WANT EVERYONE ELSE TO WORK FOR THEM.

ANYBODY BUT OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS IN 2012!!!!!!
