Canada today defended Israel against the Obama administration at the Group of 8 meetings in Europe. The Canadians forced the group to soften a statement by removing a specific mention of 1967 border plan in the Group of Eight leaders’ joint statement.
YNet News reported:

Canadian delegation blocks mention of 1967 lines in Group of Eight leaders’ joint statement calling Israel, Palestinians to return to peace talks.

Group of Eight leaders had to soften a statement urging Israel and the Palestinians to return to negotiations because Canada objected to a specific mention of 1967 borders, diplomats said on Friday.

Canada’s right-leaning Conservative government has adopted a staunchly pro-Israel position in international negotiations since coming to power in 2006, with Prime Minister Stephen Harper saying Canada will back Israel whatever the cost.

Diplomats involved in Middle East discussions at the G8 summit said Ottawa had insisted that no mention of Israel’s pre-1967 borders be made in the leaders’ final communiqué, even though most of the other leaders wanted a mention.

“The Canadians were really very adamant, even though Obama expressly referred to 1967 borders in his speech last week,” one European diplomat said.

A spokesman for Harper would not comment on the line Canada had taken, saying only that the final communiqué would make positions clear.

Obama won’t like this… Either will Hamas.

  1. Go Harper!!! Americans are jealous of Canadians for they have a president that they can be proud of.

  2. Harper’s been a steadfast friend of Israel. Thank you, Canada, for keeping the Tories in power.

  3. every “let me be clear” bit of shizzle from that guy has an expiration date, new record set. Only been 1 week to re-throw Israel under the bus again.

  4. It is good to see some others in the world are willing to stand against evil, not just some in the USA. It seems far too often we are outnumbered by the weak, stupid, and malevolent.

  5. Canada’s been growing a spine under Harper. Bravo!!

  6. O or Canada?

  7. I never thought the day would come when I would say, “well done, Canada.” It’s come.

  8. Barry must be seething!

  9. I’m surprised that politically correct Canada does this.

But when you look at it, Canada stands alone. The EU “leaders”, apparently, don’t share Canada’s view. Then again, those are the same “leaders” who want to either negotiate with the “moderate taliban” (Germany) or who play tough guy with drug-crazed dictators while pissing on their own people (France, the UK.)

  10. Way to go Canada. It’s time for all to make a stand for Israel.

  11. Yay Canada…I wrote about this earlier today and am so thankful that he was willing to go against the group.

  12. We might all have to move there after the fall of the U.S.

  13. I wish he was in the WH. God bless Canada! God bless you, Mr.Harper!

  14. Something tells me that I seriously doubt Canada will get as many historic natural disasters as the Unite States. Just say’n.

  15. Thank the good Lord, I can move to Canada easily. Our once proud nation is in a scary state, and my husband is Canadian, so this family will move if it becomes neccessary.

  16. O’bozo (since he is Irish too now) is in future going to send the same jealous look to Harper as he did to Bibi.

  17. Harper is not to be celebrated. I am Canadian and I have to travel to the U.S. or Japan when I need immediate medical treatment due to the long wait times in our public-only healthcare system. Before Harper was Prime Minister, he constantly talked about the need to open up public services to private interests, but when he became Prime Minister after his long journey, he did a 180 and said he no longer supports private care. He is a piece of sh*t. I don’t care about this meaningless show of support for Israel.

  18. Harper is no conservative or right-winger. He might support Israel, but like Obama, he is against private healthcare and wants the state only to administer healthcare.

  19. Thank You, O Canada! You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby!!!

God Bless and Keep You! Psalm 91, AMEN! Bless and Keep you and SHALOM BLESSINGS AND HEALINGS TO YOUR LAND! Hallelujah!

  20. Thanks Canada!!! Obama is only the President of the United States. It’s not like he speaks for anyone other than a tiny minority of traitors, thieves and liars. bahahahaha

  21. While I applaud this move by Canada, when you look at their gun laws and political correctness, its still a sh*thole of a country.

No hate please, just being honest.

  22. Oh, Canada! thank you.

  23. Please don’t trash Canada! They have been and still are with us on many fronts such as
    Afghan and Iraq. Thanks Canada!!!

  24. Canada has, since the mid 20th century, been a generation ahead of the USA politically. PM MacDonald foretold Reagan, Trudeau was a definite foreshadowing of Obama. My biggest hope is we will not have to wait 40 years for our Harper south of the 49th.

  25. I am proud to be a Canadian and more so today. Harper is not perfect and we have a long way to go to become the freedom loving state I would like to see, but we are moving in the right direction. This is not the appropriate forum or time to whine about health care, which has been a national program for decades.

Bravo Canada! And Bravo Mr. Harper!

  26. Good for Canada. I am glad to see there are still some sane people that support a country like Israel….Israel being the only democracy in the middle east and the only place where Muslims live in true freedom.

Watched Netanyahu speak to Joint Session of Congress. He was extraordinary and spoke from his heart. He stands to defend his own country, unlike our own president here in the US.

  27. Hurrah for PM Harper – a severely normal person as our PM. Who’d a thot it possible. Just watch – he’ll go down as one of the best this country has produced.

  28. So Harper shows Obozo what a spine is . . . just a wonderful day.

Will Obozo learn anything? Probably not. His allegiance is to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, not to civilized humanity, the USA or freedom and democracy.

A country with a spine, a Prime Minister with principals . . . how refreshing.

  29. Good for them. I’m developing a new pride for my former home country. The way things are going I might have to move back for the work and the politics.

  30. First it was that uppity Israeli Jew, now it’s that uppity Canuck hoser! Is there no end to the raaaaacism! directed against Obama’s wonderous diplomaceh?

  31. Thanks Jim Hoft — for today’s good news. Canada is supporting Israel and Rick Perry might run for President. Perry is also a major supporter of Israel. Wouldn’t it be great if we could stand by our allies once again and stand against our enemies. God is Good.

    God Bless PM Harper

  32. I thought Obama had officially backed off the 1967 business, but it appears that was just propaganda so his Jewish contributors would not desert him, and in reality this anti Israel policy remains official US policy at the lower levels where policy is actually implimented. Any Jewish citizen, or any other citizen in the US today, that actually cares about preserving Israel, should run as fast as they can from Obama, because he clearly hates Israel, despite what his propagandists may say.

Hurray for Harper and Canada. Pretty pitiful that we have to look to Canada, and not the US, to find somebody that will not desert Israel to appease radical Islam. It seems like each month president Obama comes up with yet another leftist outrage and betrayal. If he wins another term, this nation will no longer be the nation I grew up in and love.

  33. To Steven D.
True. Isn’t it a bit sad when we in the US have to look to Canada to rediscover American ideals. How far we have fallen under this appeasing, big spending, big taxing, overregulating, corrupt, crony enriching, leftist.

It appears that Canadians have learned a valuable lesson in the evil of leftist gov under Trudeau, and have finally wised up. The US partially learned that lesson in 2010, but we must wait till 2012, and a new prez and senate, to see if it really took.

I do have one question for you Canadians though. Has Harper ever gotten around to abolishing the CA Human Rights Commissions, those leftist bastions of censorship and intolerance for free speech? If not, that should be his next priority. If you leave the leftists with control of any safe sanctualy, you plant the seeds of leftist resurgence later. The Human Rights Commissions do absolutely nothing for real human rights, and are merely evil bastions of leftist censorship, and radical Islamic appeasement, and should be abolished now.

  34. “Obama won’t like this…”

    He can kiss my *ss.

Harper has said if he got a majority, he would end the long-gun registry, and he will. There is only political correctness with the left, just like in the States. We have had socialist healthcare for decades, and if people took a vote, I doubt they would vote to get rid of it……which is the problem with socialist programs. Unfortunately, Canadians pay for their healthcare through their high taxes, and if they knew how much, they would want to seek out their own insurance.

  35. I am more than happy to see Harper get the upper hand over Obama. Harper has always been a strong supporter of Israel and I think this will continue. And, unlike Obama, we don’t crap on our allies!

Canada has an extremely strong economy and one of the most stable. Our employment is now higher than it was pre-recession to the extent that we are very short of skilled labor. Our housing market is now inflationary. Our banks weathered the financial meltdown without a hiccough. Our dollar is also very strong. Canada is a great place to be.

Being Canadian, I must say that in the past few years, the US is now a more Socialist nation than Canada. The Left has not permeated our institutions and organizations to the extent they have in America. ALL working individuals pay taxes. We have no need for food stamps because we have an incredibly low unemployment rate.

We do have universal health care which is a huge cost and our gun control laws will most likely be changed now that Harper has a Conservative majority.

American immigration is most welcome especially if you are staunchly Conservative.

  36. Thank you, Canada. Well done.

  37. @Mike:

“…but when he became Prime Minister after his long journey, he did a 180 and said he no longer supports private care. He is a piece of sh*t.”

Dude, politics is the art of the possible. Choosing fights you can win makes you sensible, not a piece of sh*t.

  38. harper fpr Presidnet of USA
A leader who understands and is not a marxist muslim stooge.

  39. G-D bless Canada. I am so ashamed of the worthless bag of guts I didn’t vote for.

    Sparky commented:….

Brilliant post Sparky. It’s really sad to see what America has turned into in the last 10-20 years. I think Clinton-Bush-Obama really have done this great nation irreparable harm.

And there’s no one in sight to put things right.
    So sad.

  41. We need Israel as a buffer against those arab & pre – dominant muslim states – don’t ever forget it!!

  42. Hey Mike,Harper has done wonders as a minority PM and if you have real issues with Canadian health care you of course would understand that it is the the provinces{AKA states} that manage the system not the federal government. Sounds like just another sour grape whiner to me and yet PM Harper stands for democracy once again, that is the story of the the day!

  43. “Obama won’t like this… Either will Hamas.”

If the word “Neither” doesn’t apply here (vs. “Either”), then why does the word “neither” even exist?

  44. I’m no body language expert, but somehow I get the feeling these 2 men like and respect each other

  45. Richard 40 #33

Today Obama met with Holocaust survivors in Poland. That’s supposed to make up for his desire to destroy Israel. He really thinks everyone is stupid. I’m surprised he didn’t bring kosher pickles to this meeting to show his support.

  46. I moved to Canada from NYC–just a few miles from Ground Zero. I know who the Palestinians are affiliated with and I am so proud of Mr. Harper’s decision. He has courage, which is more than I can say for the liberals in the USA. I am so proud to be here in Canada and glad to see Canada taking the true moral high ground. The Israelis won the Six Day War back in ’67–they didn’t lose it–and the Jew’s history in Israel goes back thousands of years–there never was a Palestine until the Jews made it so–it’s even a Hebrew word. But it isn’t about land–it never was. It’s about anti-Semitism that dates back to the start of Islam–it’s in their scriptures and it is poison. While Israeli doctors treat their wounded, they return to try and kill the very doctors that saved their own. Israel, as Netanyahu said, “is what’s right about the Middle East.”

  47. Atta way, Harper, atta way, Canada!

Also goes to show what happens when Israel stands up tall for herself.

  48. Not surprising. Canada’s moronic PM Stephen Harper’s religion is Christian and Missionary Alliance. It’s an Evangelical Protestant movement. Protestants confuse the modern day Apartheid militarized Zionist state of Israel with the biblical Israel and they think it fulfills a prophecy. They also think that when all the Jews return there that Jesus will come back and rapture them (and kill the non-believers… like the Jews in Israel).

This kind of thinking has no place in the world. It’s funny people always attack Islam when Protestants have a more radical and violent history which continues today. Protestants also have something in common with Israel – colonial occupation of places already inhabited by other people. Because they couldn’t get along with their neighbors, they had a tendency to colonize and you see this in Canada, the USA, Northern Ireland, Australia, South Africa, etc.

You think that’s coincidence? Harper has that same Fundie look to him, same hair style as like everybody in the US Congress… Lame. Dear Mr. Harper: Jesus hates you and wishes you get an obstructed bowel after breakfast tomorrow. Sorry, but it’s true because he said it. He told me just now, he really really doesn’t like you.

I thought Canada was secular and prided themselves on it? I like Canada too, I just don’t like fundies. Or Israel.

  49. I am so very proud to be a Canadian with Harper as Prime Minister. Now that he has a majority government, there will be important, positive legislative changes that will come about in the near future. The abolition of the gun registry will be one of them.

I feel bad for my American friends that they had been duped into electing Obama. It looks like people are finally waking up to the fact that if the suit were not filled with narcissism, it would be completely empty. We as Canadians needs our best friends and allies to be strong and healthy and headed in the right direction. We’ll go it alone if we have to, but it’s nice to know that someone 10x our size is watching our backs.

  50. Please don’t be fooled by this. Harper is and always has been a power hungry arrogant dictator and if you really want to know our “hidden” deficit is way higher per capita than the USA’s. The only reason he seems more accommodating to the will of the people these days is that although he won a majority Govt after muddling through two terms as a minority…the party that won the official opposition designation scares the living hell out of the ruling establishment. So yeah, his ears work better now.

  51. Stephen Harper speaks for me, he is my Right Honorable Prime Minister.

Standing with Isreal, O Canada you raise pride from within…

  52. I don’t pretend to know squat about Canadian politics and personalities. But here is at least one instance in which their leader has taken a principled stand. Seabiscuit’s jockey – at best – a fifth rate ‘community organizer,’ has yet to articulate any policy beyond entitlements domestically and obeisance to our enemies abroad. The average flatworm has more spine than Øshama.

  53. well, interesting all these comments, but I think pretty much all of them forgot that there is actually a UN resolution that states Israel must withdraw to the 1967 lines. It’s not a matter of loving or hating Canada or Israel it’s more a matter of public awareness about the historic truth that the Israelis, since the creation of the state in 1947, have been taking over (colonizing) lands that does not belong to them, were Palestinians used to leave before they got kicked out! I am not the one how said this and you can figure it out by yourself on the UN web site or simply in Wikipedia (look for “United Nations Security Council Resolution 242″).
No matter the support Israel could get from Canada or whatever…nobody can change history! and sooner or later truth will prevail

  54. In standing up for Israel as well as pushing back against creeping Sharia, those Canucks are making us look like a bunch of mamby-pamby, political correct, leftist wussies. Way to go, Canada!

  55. Read and learn, Sam.

    - The sovereignty of Israel as a nation is a fact.

    - No other peoples had ever established a nation or a national homeland in the area known as “Palestine” (Israel, Jordan, West Bank) since the Jews had established a nation there 2000 years before.

    - There never was a nation known as “Palestine.” Only the Palestine Region of what had once been the Turkish Ottoman empire.

    - Jews and Arabs populated the Palestinian Region. In other words, in the region (not nation) known as Palestine (or Palestinian Region) there were Jews, known as Jewish Palestinians, and Arabs, known as Arab Palestinians.

    - Israel was not “given” to the Jews by a sympathetic United Nations as some kind of consolation for the Holocaust. In WWI, Turkey, sided with Germany and, as we know, lost the war. As a consequence, Turkey lost a good portion of the Turkish Ottoman empire. In 1916, the Sykes-Picot Agreement mandated the southern portion of the Ottoman Empire to France and Britain. The area known as “Palestine” went to Britain. In 1923, Britain split the area at the Jordan River, naming the 75% on the east side “Trans-Jordan” (renamed simply “Jordan” in 1946) and giving it to Emir Abdullah (from Hejaz, now Saudi Arabia) for the Arab Palestinians. Jews were permitted the remaining 25% of the Palestinian Region, west of the Jordan river, to build (more accurately, rebuild) their nation of Israel. Not surprisingly, the Arab Palestinians, wanting all 100% of the Region of Palestine, raised hell, especially inside the borders of the western 25% – the smaller portion that was left of Israel for the Jews, and turned on the British. In 1947, the Brits had had enough of dealing with the Arab Palestinian savages and turned the region over to the UN. http://www.masada2000.org/historical.html

    - The UN proposed further dividing the 25% of the former Palestine Region in two, with one state for the Arab Palestinians and the other for the Jewish Palestinians. Palestinian Jews were willing. Again, not surprisingly, the Arab Palestinians were not. They wanted it all. Note: This division was only PROPOSED. Although Palestinian Jews were willing and ready to agree, no formal or binding agreement was ever made.

    - In 1948, Arab armies (Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Yemen) invaded Israel (formerly the 25% of the Palestine Region west of the Jordan River). Hagana, the Israeli army at the time, later to become the IDF, ripped the Arab armies a new one. Now, ticked off and disgusted with the impossible task of trying to satisfy the Arab Palestinians, Israel told the UN and the world that they were keeping the 25% of the former Palestine Region west of the Jordan River, as per the original intention of and agreement with Britain, and all deals about dividing the 25% were off. Thus that war has since been known as the Israel War for Independence. http://www.masada2000.org/historical.html

    - When, in 1948, the Arab armies invaded Israel, 70% of the Arab Palestinians who’d lived west of Jordan prior to the invasion hauled their chickenshit asses out of Israel. The 30% of Arab Palestinians who remained in Israel when the rest fled became citizens of Israel. They and their descendents are the Arab and Muslim Israeli citizens we hear and read about today, most of whom are against further dividing Israel.

    - To request or even suggest that Israel return to pre-1967 borders is absurd, not only because requesting a sovereign nation change its borders is inappropriate at best, but because there were no LEGAL “pre-1967 borders” of Israel, except those established by the result of the Israel War of Independence in 1948-1949. Egypt occupied the Gaza strip while Trans-Jordan occupied Judea-Samaria (aka West Bank). Egypt never claimed sovereignty over Gaza. Trans-Jordan annexed the West Bank and renamed itself simply “Jordan,” that illegal and non-binding annexation and sovereignty being recognized only by Pakistan and Britain. Gaza and the West Bank have been part of the nation of Israel since the end of the 1948-1949 Israel War of Independence. http://www.freeman.org/serendipity/index.php?/archives/425-SETTLEMENTS-A-JEWISH-RIGHT.html

    - “From 1949-67 when all of Judea-Samaria [West Bank & Jerusalem] and Gaza … were 100% under Arab [Jordanian & Egyptian] control, no effort was EVER made to create a second Palestinian State for the Arabs living there.” http://www.masada2000.org/historical.html

    - “Pre-1967″ Israel borders are 1949 Israel borders. This was confirmed in 1967, when the squatters of Gaza, Judea-Samaria and Golan Heights waged war against Israel and, in seven days, got their asses kicked…again. Gaza, Judea-Samaria (aka West Bank) and Golan Heights have, since 1949, been within Israel’s borders. Gaza, West Bank and Golan Heights are, legally, areas of Israel. http://www.masada2000.org/historical.html

  56. Canada is becoming what the US once was. Solid fiscal conservatism and defense of freedom.

No housing crisis, banking crisis, or appeaser government there.

  57. As a Jew, lover of our G-D given state of Israel, I thank you MR Harper.
    G-D said
“I WILL BLESS THOSE WHO BLESS MY PEOPLE ISRAEL” MR HARPER, YOU AND CANADA WILL BE BLESSED.
0N THE OTHER HAND, G-D SAID, ” I WILL CURSE THOSE WHO CURSE MY PEOPLE ISRAEL” AND OBAMA WILL BE CURSED.
Obama will be responsible for the wrath of G-D in the US. Floods, fires, famin, locusts, aids. tornadoes.

Obama has said, Islam is the great religion. ” I know, because I am one of them.
Obama has cursed Israel. He also said, “America will never be at war with Islam”

G-D will protect Israel from the likes of OBAMA and O I L

Any Jew who votes for Obama will find the wrath of G-D on him/her.

And thank you our Christian supporters. G-D will bless you

  58. Thank you Prime Minister Harper for a job well done.

  59. Obama… Read Minister Harpers lips. Then be a man like him.

  60. At least Harper has a backbone. I guess Obama will have to show his anger by sending Harper an I-POD filled with his (Obama’s) speeches.

  61. I’m proud of Canada,it’s time to stand and be counted. Iam for Israel.

  62. Canada and Australia have time and again defended the beliefs and values of the American people and their spirit, not necessarily the agenda of the of those in our Government elected to represent our desires and intents but have forgotten where their power has come from. I am sure that Obama is livid about not having his way in removing Israel back to an indefensible position setting them up for future annihilation by a hostile Muslim community bent on their as well as our future extermination. At least Canada has not forgotten Gods promise which is found in Genesis 12 1-3

1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation,
    and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a]
3 I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;
    and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you
