Sen. Jon Erpenbach tells 27 News that Democrats are leaving Rockford, Illinois right now. He would not say their destination.

They have been at the Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center in Rockford.

Our sister station in Rockford, WREX spoke with lawmakers there. WREX reports one lawmaker said, “It’s kind of everyone for themselves.” We’ll have a live phone interview with Sen. Erpenbach on 27 News at 5 p.m.

Maybe those Wisconsin Democrats should read a little Texas history. In 2003, when the Democrats fled Austin for Ardmore, Oklahoma, they held a majority in the Texas House, 88 out of 150. Now, they are a dying minority, with Republicans having a filibuster proof majority now and Texas Democrats jumping ship and switching parties by the boat load.

There is an old saying that when your opponent is trying to commit suicide, get out of his way. Walker should just get out of the Dems way and let the state vote them out next session.

Could it be that they are overloaded with illegal immigrants who drag their kids across the Rio Grand and stick them in school when the poor kid can’t even speak English, putting them at a disadvantage the very first day they attend school?

And why didn’t you bother to report that according to the University of Montana, their research shows that Texas has the most dedicated teachers in the entire U.S? Or that even with a illegal immigration population of almost 2 million, Texas still manages to have better test scores for 4th and 8th graders (220-287) in math than does Obama’s state of Illinois (219-282), New Mexico (230-270), Arizona (230-255), California (209-148) and Wisconsin @ 244-158. By the time the kids in Wisconsin reach the 8th grade, they are behind everyone else except California.

Don’t get me wrong, good teachers need to be paid well … but we are spending money in so many other ways in the name of “education” that do not deliver in terms of results.

The downhill slide started, when “it’s for the children” was used to justify bureaucratic empire-building and state-subsidized indoctrination in Progressive conventional wisdom … particularly the expert-worship that has led many parents to think that they shouldn’t be more involved in their kids’ education, because they aren’t “qualified” … and the spread of moral relativism that eroded the sense of responsibility of parent, student and even teacher.

Lack of money is NOT the problem.

I see you are still pursuing your education … well, as a practicing engineer, let me inform you that you have a LOT to learn yet … and most of will be learned after you graduate … inside, and outside your profession.

However, since your university is supposed to be developing your analytical skills … and teaching you to look beyond the metrics, to WHY the numbers are what they are … I’d recommend asking for a refund, then finding a better school before you get your first bridge project.

There is a very important difference between the NFL situation and this one in Wisconsin.
The NFL is funded by private money given by choice from willing participants, be it spectators or advertisers.
Public sector employees are paid by money taken from taxpayers by the force of government.

Also, a government service is supposed to be important, not stopped in order to make an argument. We can get by without a football game. We [presumably but could be argued] need vital government services to continue without interruption, else why is the money to fund them taken from taxpayers?

A public sector union advocates not against a private business entity, but against the public taxpayer. They use the personal ambitions of politicians to cause said politicians to extract always more money from taxpayers, and are never willing to give back in hard times. This should not be allowed, and soon will NOT be in Wisconsin [and, I hear, in Tennessee, Ohio, and, I hope, more to come]

It seems as if the people of Wisconsin want the government to stop spending so much, that is why they voted Republicans to power in the recent election.

Fleeing Democrats jump on a short bus that looks comical to begin with, run for the state line, get tracked down by tea party members, chased to another hotel, chased back over the state line… THIS is an example of intelligent adults who were elected to office to represent their constituents? Like the Governor’s plan or not, this is not the way to behave. It is childish. The folks who got elected ran on getting their budget under control. In the words of someone you no doubt worship, “Elections have consequences.” They’re doing what the people want, but union thuggery and democrat stunts are being used to thwart the people’s will.

Ok, so the actual budget shortfall is projected to be $137 million in WI, compared to the ~$600 million that it has been every year for over a decade. This is under both republican and dem governors.

SO… what we actually have is a MANUFACTURED EMERGENCY where Walker is trying to justify a POWER GRAB and cripple the teacher’s union, and says that the consequence of them not complying is massive layoffs.

Doesn’t really pass the smell test to me.

For the record I think that public employees should have to pay into their pensions if they’re going to be able to retire at 55 and bring in $60,000/year. That’s fair. That does need reworking, but not their rights to bargain as a union. Those of you who work non-union in the private sector should recognize that if it weren’t for the unions, you probably wouldn’t have the compensation that you do right now.

BTW the local police and state trooper unions are not in danger… and they happened to support him last election… a coincidence, probably.

There has been NO violence. 40,000 people came out today and there was not a single arrest. There are meetings happening reminding people that violence is not tolerated, and signs being posted everywhere reiterating this fact. It is probably the most kind and peaceful I’ve ever seen any place, even just a downtown city. People are going out of their way to be kind and get out of people’s ways, even though it is very crowded.

As for the mess, the Teaching Assistant Association organized a massive volunteer clean-up yesterday. Most of the litter was just from overflowing trashing cans having things blown over by the wind, but we cleaned it up anyhow. We posted photos of this on the TAA Facebook page, but I guess that isn’t the story you want to hear.

You can can disagree– that is your democratic right. But please don’t make up lies about what is happening here.

(And I stand by my statement– a minority Congress enacting a filibuster to stop a bill from passing is the very same as what the Wisconsin 14 are doing. I understand why one may disagree with these actions, but you can’t claim a filibuster is somehow more legitimate than these action.)

Yes, but atleast with a filibuster they are in the building doing their jobs, these Senators just ran off and continue to let these silly protests carry on.

Oh, and one more thing. After reading nearly 200 posts it seems that one in every 10 complains about firefighters and police officers excluded from this bill simply because they voted for him. Think one second about what our society would be like if this bill factored in firefighters and police officers and they chose to protest and get these FAKE sick notes for work, sure we can operate without some whiny teachers for a week or two, but I don’t think our communities will look too nice with buildings burning down and houses being robbed.

Surely the charges of this vacation was not paid for in tax dollars. ??? Possibly the union paid for that. I hope that it will be exposed to the public every cent that was spent if it was charged to the people. These unions are supporters of the democrat party and they are not about uplifting any thing except the unions. This skipping out on the job is like thieft of services on the people. I don’t think they have ran out of fear. They ran to make a show; Not caring about what they do as long as they get their way. Personally, I don’t find any humor in this. I hope this will catch up with them at election time if they are not put out of office before that. No mercy on these teachers; Their record shows that they have done nothing better than the nonunion teachers have. And bolonge about these union workers benefiting the everyday worker. We all have bargaining rights that pertain to how well we do a job and how well we out- do our competitors. Something as important as the teachers that educate our children should not have something like the union to hide behind if they are not doing a satifactory job. That’s just damn scary in the first place.
