Top US scientist Hal Lewis resigned this week from his post with the biased American Physical Society.
He admitted global warming climate change was nothing but a scam in his resignation letter.

The Telegraph reported:
The following is a letter to the American Physical Society released to the public by Professor Emiritus of physics Hal Lewis of the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Sent: Friday, 08 October 2010 17:19 Hal Lewis
From: Hal Lewis, University of California, Santa Barbara
To: Curtis G. Callan, Jr., Princeton University, President of the American Physical Society
6 October 2010Dear Curt:
When I first joined the American Physical Society sixty-seven years ago it was much smaller, much gentler, and as yet uncorrupted by the money flood (a threat against which Dwight Eisenhower warned a half-century ago).
Indeed, the choice of physics as a profession was then a guarantor of a life of poverty and abstinence—it was World War II that changed all that. The prospect of worldly gain drove few physicists. As recently as thirty-five years ago, when I chaired the first APS study of a contentious social/scientific issue, The Reactor Safety Study, though there were zealots aplenty on the outside there was no hint of inordinate pressure on us as physicists. We were therefore able to produce what I believe was and is an honest appraisal of the situation at that time. We were further enabled by the presence of an oversight committee consisting of Pief Panofsky, Vicki Weisskopf, and Hans Bethe, all towering physicists beyond reproach. I was proud of what we did in a charged atmosphere. In the end the oversight committee, in its report to the APS President, noted the complete independence in which we did the job, and predicted that the report would be attacked from both sides. What greater tribute could there be?
How different it is now. The giants no longer walk the earth, and the money flood has become the raison d’être of much physics research, the vital sustenance of much more, and it provides the support for untold numbers of professional jobs. For reasons that will soon become clear my former pride at being an APS Fellow all these years has been turned into shame, and I am forced, with no pleasure at all, to offer you my resignation from the Society.
It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford’s book organizes the facts very well.) I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.
So what has the APS, as an organization, done in the face of this challenge? It has accepted the corruption as the norm, and gone along with it…

__________
You are very wrong about that. Over 30,000 scientists in the fields of physics and chemistry and medicine and biology signed a declaration against the global warming scam a couple of years back. Many of us have stated repeatedly that it is a scam.
My biggest worry? Declaring CO2 – the natural byproduct of human respiration – to be a pollutant means that you “pollute” the earth with every breath you take. How far a jump is it from there to limiting the amount of such “pollution” a given human being is allowed? Sounds like a nightmare scenario I’m sure – but no longer unthinkable.
Now add to that the fact that every single scrap of every single medical record about every single human being in the United States of America is going into a huge database by 2014. You have NO say in the matter. Your doctor has NO say in the matter. Surely you don’t believe the crap that it is so your data can be accessed in an emergency from 10 states away? There is only one purpose for this – to datamine the records and allocate resources depending. Need a new kidney? Not you – you carry the breast cancer gene. And so forth.
And just suppose that the government decides to regulate food in the same way that medicine is regulated. They are already trying this in NYC. Your BMI is bigger than the government wants it to be? Your food ration is decreased accordingly. . . . .
Trust me – I’m not even half trying to imagine the possible. ALREADY possible.

We need to get at the bottom of this. Bring in that criminal Al Gore to testify. They want to commit a monumental heist on Americans and take our hard earned money. They want to shut down manufacturing, and keep forcing us to buy foreign oil, when we can use our own God given natural resources. The environmental groups, are fronts for communists.
Granny,
Excellent post. They won’t be getting our medical records. If this law isn’t rendered impotent by Congress, and the Supreme Court goes rogue by issuing what we know to be a unconstitutional decision. Our only recourse will be to refuse to comply. It’s very liberating. We have enormous power. Now we just need the spineless leaders of states, and companies to do the same. I don’t know how some of them got to be heads of companies. Go to the government to get a waiver? For what? Just tell them to pound sand, and don’t do what they are asking. It’s illegal for the Federal Government to do what they’re doing. Just refuse to comply with them. We don’t even need guns.

Hi there my American Friends.
I have to share my personal experience with you to illustrate how it has been driving my perception of the world political landscape of which the Global Warming scam is an indispensable element.
It was, if I remember well, 1977 when acting as a translator in Russian for my Director for Trade of huge meat producing factory in the small Polish Western city of Zielona Gora, I visited the stationing in Poland Soviet Army’s headquaters in City of Legnica, also in Western part of Poland.
There I had an opportunity to talk to a group of high ranking Soviet army and GRU officers, who in friendly and fuelled by Vodka atmosphere revealed a thing or two about the Soviet strategy towards the United States.
One of the main elements of that strategy was the energy issue that consisted of two pillars:
1. Destroy the US influence in the Middle East to make room for the Soviet Union (and now Russia) as a prospective leader in the energy market.
2. Prevent the US and Western Europe from developing their own energy resources.
That purpose was to be achieved by inflating the enviromental issues and convince the ignorant Western Homo-Consumus Degeneratus that the “Global Warming” is the direct result of Western overindustrialisation.
The memory of that meeting (and other similar events as well) made me understand the core of the political processes happening in today’s world.
It is not that difficult to grasp that the Soviet KGB which is (and always was) the real ruler of the Soviet Empire and which also is the most notorious, murderous, genocidal and dangerous terrorist organisation of all time, has fantastically succeded in its strategy.
The US influence in the ME is practically non-existent now and Russia is on her way to become the de-facto leader in the energy market as Putin (who wll become soon her President-for-life) is pushing towards the creation of energy Mega-Cartel comprisng of the oil and gas.
On the other side, America has never been as much dependant on the foreign oil as today.
Thanks for the barbaric ignorance and even cretinism of majority of the US citizens.
When Yurij Bezmenow, one of the highest ranking Soviet defectors gave the interview in the early 1980-ies, he expressed his horror upon realising the extent to which the American population has been brainwashed by the leftist influence, fuelled by the KGB money.
Unfortunately, the situation today seem to be much worse than thirty years ago when Bezmenow gave his interview.

[“Obama Years Ago Helped Fund Carbon Program He Is Now Pushing Through Congress” is a FOXNews story by Ed Barnes. In short, “While on the board of a Chicago-based charity, Barack Obama helped fund a carbon trading exchange that will likely play a critical role in the cap-and-trade carbon reduction program he is now trying to push through Congress as president.”
The charity was the Joyce Foundation on whose board of directors Obama served and which gave nearly $1.1 million in two separate grants that were “instrumental in developing and launching the privately-owned Chicago Climate Exchange, which now calls itself “North America’s only cap and trade system for all six greenhouse gases, with global affiliates
and projects worldwide.”
[..]
The “privately-owned” Chicago Climate Exchange is heavily
influenced by Obama cohorts Al Gore and Maurice Strong.
[..]
In 1997, Strong went on to accept from Tongsun Park, who was found guilty of illegally acting as an Iraqi agent, $1 million from Saddam Hussein, which was invested in Cordex Petroleum Inc., a company he owned with his son, Fred.
These are the leaders in the Man-made Global Warming Movement,
who three years later were to be funded by the man who was to become President of the United States of America.
If we follow the time line on where Obama was during the funding of the Chicago Climate Exchange, he was still a professor at the University of Chicago Law School teaching constitutional law, with his law license becoming inactive a year later in 2002.
It may be interesting to note that the Chicago Climate Exchange in spite
of its hype, is a veritable rat’s nest of cronyism. The largest shareholder
in the Exchange is Goldman Sachs. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley is its honorary chairman, The Joyce Foundation, which funded the Exchange also funded money for John Ayers’ Chicago School Initiatives. John is the brother of William Ayers.
What a flap when it was discovered that the senator from Chicago had nursed on Saul Alinsky’s milk, had his political career launched at a
coffee party held by domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, and sat for 20 years, uncomplaining in front of the “God-dam-America pulpit of resentment-challenged Jeremiah Wright.

Thank you, Bogdan for your friendly message and equally severe and revealing warning to Americans.
It should be plainly obvious to anyone who has been dispassionately paying attention, that the Russians will press the advantage of their vast natural resources, as well as their deep global influence, in order to dominate the world energy market for many decades to come.
In the 21st century and beyond, mark it down: energy development and production will equal wealth in this world. Not only Russia, but also China, India, and numerous other Asian countries, Saudi Arabia and Brazil as well, have infuriatingly come to dominate the United States and Europe in energy production. And we in America simply stood by, shot ourselves in the foot and let it happen.
Unless we Americans and other western nations get our asses in gear and soon, the countries mentioned above will be yanking our chain and pushing us around for as long as any of us are alive, because of their energy dominance.
It is time to stop horsing around with the suicidal fantasy that wind farms, solar panels and hemp will solve all our energy problems.
We MUST expand oil production vastly in the near to medium future, as well as coal and natural gas production, and stop fooling around with these damn Global Warming fantasies that have begun to turn us into the world’s most obnoxiously self-righteous beggars. Otherwise, Russia, China, and the rest of the energy-producing world will completely eat our economic lunch for the foreseeable future.

That is one reason why so many of the prominent “skeptics”, like Prof. Lewis, are emiriti who are professionally and financially beyond attack.
In the historical record of science, global warming will rank with the Lysenko school of biology under Stalin. Political science triumphant.
Plutarch commented:
Scientists are not academicians nor can academicians be Scientists. The ethos of scientific inquiry is fatally inconsistent with the politics and culture of the postmodern academy. The GW fiasco is so much a corruption of academics, but a validation that practicing academics are systemically corrupted by the orthodoxy that comprises their secular worship of themselves and the institutional station to which they aspire.
The murder of Socrates is symbolic of the personal price to be paid living an authentic life in the sciences. Albeit metaphorical, economic, professional or criminal, murder by orthodoxy animates the history of man; of liberty trampled; of knowledge held hostage.
Science can no more be practiced in academia than any other art, with perhaps the exception of the dark art of being academic. How could such a lot so thoroughly destroy modern public education and leave the remainder of the academy unscathed? The academy is riven with the spoilt issue produced by the postmodern whore-ticulture of the effete orthodoxy that operates as a secular religion funded by monies confiscated from the great unwashed masses.
In our modern era, the ‘evil military’ has been replaced by the postmodern “academic-industrial complex”. It’s cohorts and stakeholders have conspired to place an otherwise mediocre candidate for a typical university presidency into the Oval Office as the acting POTUS.
Government by faculty committee has become the norm. It explains the hubris of this Congress, the deficit and the insipid jingoism the Obama Administration.

You can put your heads in the sand, but the responsible, grown up thing to do is to take action, not pretend that a few disgruntled people make the slightest difference to the working science (go and read Nature, Science or any real science journal, not the status-quo-maintaining pundits).
—————————————
Yes, read a science journal. Or better, check the data yourself. You will see that we don’t have a problem.
And even if there is a climate change, there is NO evidence that mankind is doing anything.
Here’s something for you to think about:
CO2 in the atmosphere: 0.038%
Mankind produces about 3-4% of that.
Yet people talk about how the atmosphere is “saturated” with CO2.
0.038% is NOT saturation. It’s effectively nothing. We could actually pump out more.
0.038% CO2 is also not enough to cause any reaction. That is a fact and can be reproduced in any lab. Experiments show that you need more than 60% CO2 to have a reaction.
Ironically, not one scientist has managed to reproduce “global warming” with such low levels of CO2.
And here’s the big question: when do cultures bloom? In warming periods or cold periods?
The answer is, of course, warm periods, as the temperature of the past 2,000 years easily proves.
BTW, if we have problem with “global warming”, Rob, then maybe you can tell my why Denmark and North England can’t grow wine.
The Romans grew wine in England. We know from Denmark that they grew wine as well (roughly around 1200/1300 AD.)
So back then it was significantly warmer than today. Today the wine border is somewhere in Germany.
China, around the time the Romans grew wine in England, developed crossbows and chrome, so it was certainly a global “warming” period, since such cultural and technological advances always happen in times when conditions are good.
And here’s another big question for you:
What is the number one driving force of the climate on the planet?
The sun.
But hey, if you only gobble down filtered content you’ll never learn anything.
The sun, for example, has massive influence on the hole in the ozone layer. The size of the hole and the thickness of the ozone layer on the South Pole are massively influenced by the activity of the sun. That is a proven fact.
Same for the climate (not that there is something like a “global climate” anyway.)
Venus has more than 95% CO2 in the atmosphere and it’s hot.
Mars has also more than 95% CO2 in the atmosphere and it’s cold.
Why?
Distance to the sun, duh.
It’s so perfectly obvious and I don’t even have to go into how many of those “global warming” theories outright violate physics and the laws attached to it.
So Rob, you were saying?

American capitalism gone with a whimper [4/27/09]
[It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.
True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.
Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.
First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.
Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.
The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.]

Read Lewis’ entire letter in the Telegraph (linked in the article)
At the very least it will be a little cathartic for your gut instinct.
“This scheming at APS HQ is so bizarre that there cannot be a simple explanation for it…I think it is the money, exactly what Eisenhower warned about a half-century ago. There are indeed trillions of dollars involved, to say nothing of the fame and glory (and frequent trips to exotic islands) that go with being a member of the club. Your own Physics Department (of which you are chairman) would lose millions a year if the global warming bubble burst.”
Though he admits to no background in climate science, another physicist, Obama’s energy sec’y, Steven Chu (“let’s paint roofs and roads white!”) is on board for the scam.
Chu’s own clulessness was amply on board during the BP fiasco, although Obama kept mentioning how “brilliant” his energy sec’y was.

Even the Criminals of Climategate Avoid Gore
[Their prizes were obtained for work deliberately falsified then used for policies that creates unnecessary hardship rather than peace. Equally disgraceful is how one prizewinner, Al Gore, distorted and falsified the distortions and falsifications of the other prizewinner, the IPCC.
Gore was already discredited, especially when his carbon footprint was found too big for his mouth. Other discredits include; the millions he made from his misdirection on carbon; failure to answer questions or participate in debate; character assassination of scientists who raised legitimate questions; the false claim that “the science is settled”, and failure to correct the major errors in his movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. Gore
must have created a major dilemma for the IPCC and CRU.
[..]
Of course, they were bringing in massive amounts of funding and that apparently bought Davis’s support. I watched funding create disturbing behavior and biases throughout academia.
No wonder the CRU gang ignored Gore. He took their false work and falsified it some more. Of course, they couldn’t denounce him because
they might expose their own corruption. Together they achieved only
one success by disproving the adage that there is honor among thieves.]

The day somebody can tell me the temperature for San Diego is the day somebody has an adequate model for climate activity.
Four ranges of temperature in degrees Farenheit are reported for San Diego today: 81-63; 85-56; 83-49; and 101-60.
Every chemist and every physicist knows that you cannot take an accurate temperature reading for a beaker of water that is being heated, unless it is being stirred thoroughly enough to achieve a semblance of an equilibrium.
The earths’ atmosphere and oceans are not in equilibrium, as demonstrated by the temperature ranges, above.
So, when a chemist or physicist reads that some climate “scientist” claims a year-to-year difference of several hundredths of a degree means that the globe is warming, he or she immediately files that report in the “journal of irreproducible results” and continues with the day. That is, the chemist or physicist will disregard the paper, because it lacks credibility.
All “hard” scientists have been trained in the concept of significant figures. They know that a difference of several hundredths of a degree is insignificant when the measurement can be anywhere within a range of 50 degrees or so.
Another way to say this is: All measurements within the range of experimental error are the same. Experimental error is a feature of the experimental system, and it cannot be changed by either 1) increasing the accuracy of the measuring device or 2) increasing the numbers of measurements.
In the case of the beaker, that means you can’t get better results by 1) using an electronic temperature probe with an accuracy within a hundredth of a degree, or by 2) running the experiment over and over. What you need to do is add a stirring mechanism.
This is not cutting-edge information: this is taught in high school-level chemistry and physics.
These ranges also demonstrate the Greenhouse effect, and disclose the identity of the major greenhouse gas.
The greatest range of temperatures is for the Desert: 101-60 degrees Farenheit, or 41 degrees.
The least range is for the Coast, 81-63 degrees Farenheit, or 18 degrees.
Intermediate ranges are Inland (that is low-lying) 85-56, or 29 degrees and Mountains (higher altitude) 83-49, or 34 degrees.
That’s right: proximity to the ocean results in both higher humidity and less variation of temperature, and nearby areas that are very dry get both hotter and colder. Low-lying inland areas, which are more likely to be affected by the marine layer (surface level fog from the ocean), have a narrower range of temperatures than higher altitudes.
Water vapor is the major greenhouse gas, and is a major driver for the differences in temperature in this region. There are no such effects readily observable from variations in CO2 concentrations, mainly because there is so little CO2 in the atmosphere, and Andreas has pointed out, above.
The responsible, adult thing is to take action on things that matter, and refuse to fritter away your resources on foolishness.
This is the kind of pollution we should be concerned about:
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/hungary-united-in-wake-of-catastrophe/
Instead of spending gynormous amounts of money on Al Gore’s friends and on immature technologies, we can and should pay attention to real pollution and solve real problems now, rather than waiting until somebody dies.

Don’t run to the bank with this one, or you’ll loose your money. The guy never studied nor published on climate, although he had a distinguished career in atomic physics. He wrote virtually the same anti-climate change letter a year ago, co-authored with the head of strategic planning for Exxon-Mobile, showing perhaps a little bias, since they would suffer most if climate change legislation were ever passed! Here is a quote by Hal Lewis from 6 months ago showing a little political leaning: “The Obama crowd will coerce, buy, or steal enough votes to accomplish their ends, utterly without conscience or any sense of history or concern for the future…. the Obamacrats have been so flagrant, tone deaf, and dictatorial that even the Republicans are unanimous in their opposition….The only people he has in fact treated with deference and respect are our foreign enemies—the folks who clamor openly for our death.”
My guess is I wouldn’t let Prof Hal Lewis change my tires, let alone advise me on something important.

Physicists Stick to Warming Claim Post-ClimateGate
[Hal Lewis of the University of California, Santa Barbara:
I think it behooves us to be careful about how we state the science. I know of nobody who denies that the Earth has been warming for thousands of years without our help (and specifically since the Little Ice Age a few hundred years ago), and is most likely to continue to do so in its own sweet time. The important question is how much warming does the future hold, is it good or bad, and if bad is it too much for normal adaptation to handle. The real answer to the first is that no one knows, the real answer to the second is more likely good than bad (people and plants die from cold, not warmth), and the answer to the third is almost certainly not. And nobody doubts that CO2 in the atmosphere has been increasing for the better part of a century, but the disobedient temperature seems not to care very much. And nobody denies that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, along with other gases like water vapor, but despite the claims of those who are profiting by this craze, no one knows whether the temperature affects the CO2 or vice versa. The weight of the evidence is the former.
So the tragedy is that the serious questions are quantitative, and it's easy to fool people with slogans. If you say that the Earth is warming you are telling the truth, but not the whole truth, and if you say it is due to the burning of fossil fuels you are on thin ice. If you say that the Earth is warming and therefore catastrophe lies ahead, you are pulling an ordinary bait and switch scam. If you are a demagogue, of course, these distinctions don't bother you -- you have little interest in that quaint concept called truth.
So it isn't simple, and the catastrophe mongers
are playing a very lucrative game.]

I view it as science fraud, pure and simple, and that we should completely distance ourselves from such unethical behavior by CRU, and that data files be opened to the public and examined in the full light of day. We as taxpayers pay for that work -- we are owed examination of the analysis.
Princeton University's William Happer:
The APS has not responded to our petition. We submitted the petition several weeks ago... Prof. Callan, the president elect of the APS, who works in the same building in Princeton University as Professor Austin and I, has been unable to find time to discuss the petition with us.
We have independently contacted as many members of the APS as we can to ask for their support of the petition. We are getting about as many supportive as negative responses, so I would judge that about half the membership of the APS agrees with us. Those who oppose us usually have little or nothing to say about the science and plenty of things to say about what evil people we are. Those who agree with us are troubled by the lack of scientific support for the current APS statement and the highly political nature of it.]

Good post, but you’re wrong about Mars and Venus. It’s PRESSURE. Mars has about 1% of Earth’s surface pressure, and Venus almost 100X Earth’s. That makes a 10,000X difference between them. Pressure generates temperature.
Venus reflects and emits in total more energy than it receives from the sun. It is cooling, but very slowly; there is some unknown internal energy source involved.
