This will send shockwaves all the way to Washington DC–
Conservative rocket scientist Ruth McClung released a poll this morning that shows her pulling ahead of Socialist Democrat Raul Grijalva in Arizona.
“He boycotted us. His own state. His own people.”
Ruth McClung is a rocket scientist at a local Tucson engineering company. Ruth is running against Raul Grijalva, the co-chair of the Progressive Caucus well-known for his socialist policies and support for Raza studies in public schools. He is probably now best known for calling for a boycott of Arizona in response to SB1070.
Ruth spoke at the Tuscon Tea Party Rally this past weekend.
The McClung campaign released the following statement this morning:
PHOENIX, AZ – A recent survey conducted by Phoenix-based Summit Consulting Group, Inc. shows four-term Democrat Congressman Raul Grijalva in a surprisingly tough re-election campaign against Republican Challenger Ruth McClung.
An automated survey conducted between October 4th and 5th among 1,807 likely general election voters shows McClung clearly within striking distance of beating Grijalva in Congressional District 7 which encompasses a large swath of southwestern Arizona.
When asked the question,
“In the upcoming general election for Congress, do you plan on supporting Democrat Raul Grijalva, Republican Ruth McClung, or are you undecided?”
The results were:
Raul Grijalva 37%
Ruth McClung 39%
Undecided 24%Based on the results, McClung has locked down the Republican base, losing only 5% to Grijalva. She earns 18% among Democrat voters and a whopping 42% among Independents.
The sample included voters who have participated in the last two general elections and was in line with the current voter registration numbers. Democrats comprised 43%, Republican voters 24% and Independent, Party Not Determined and Other Party were 33% of the sample used.
Fantastic!
Maybe supporting an economic boycott against the state you represent was not such a good idea, after all?

Robert Stacy McCain reported reported earlier today on this report from The Politico that shows the race is wide open now:
Add Rep. Raul Grijalva to the growing list of Democratic worries this election season.
Party operatives say there’s increasing concern that the Arizona Democrat’s reelection bid could turn into a “sleeper” race for Republicans after Grijalva — responding to enactment of a tough new immigration law — called for an economic boycott of his own state amid a housing crisis and record unemployment.
Four Democratic sources from different parts of the country said that there is new attention to a race that was long considered in the bag.
And a recent poll, obtained by POLITICO, found that Grijalva and Republican challenger Ruth McClung, a real-life rocket scientist, were in a dead heat, even though Washington prognosticators have declared the deep-blue seat safely Democratic.
Grijalva will be running his first TV ads in 8 years, in a sign that he is in the hardest race he has ever had to run.
This is one of the biggest sleeper races in the country right now. Nobody saw Scott Brown coming – the same could be said of Ruth McClung. Her race against one of the worst Democrats in the country is quickly shaping into a huge upset.

I just sent her a donation. We need some brains in Washington, and she will win if she gets our support, she had only $16,000 on hand a few weeks ago.
Go Ruth Go !!!

Knowing how things go near the border, I can certainly bet that Grijalva will have a few extra trunks with “ballots” and a few “palancas” ready to be used…

Typical liberal, he is not spending ANY of his own money on the race.

So you can’t beat the margin of error, one-fourth of voters are undecided, and this shows how strong the conservative message is?
Mark 1957 @ 6: So if funding your own campaign is a hallmark of conservatism, why are so many conservatives getting funded by the money launderers in the temple, those who buy commercials and refuse to say where the money comes from? At least you can make fun of where the money comes from because Libs signed their names to the donations. Conservatives still refuse to do business in the light of day. You want Dems to pay their own way, fine. But that means you have to give us the names (What am I, Major Strasser?) of those putting millions into conservative campaigns. Or Dems are cleaner, tougher, and braver than you lot.
You decide
thomas mc donnell commented:
these polls don’t mean anything. they have no way of polling all the registered voters that don’t exist. the dead, the illegal colonizers, the made up people that fill our voter registration lists. unless the pollsters can poll how many times someone is going to vote these polls do not have much accuracy.

Wouldn’t a true boycott of the state of AZ require Mr Grijalva to RESIGN ?

Here’s why I just sent money to Ruth:
(Aside from the fact that she’s a rocket scientist and not a LAWYER running for office)
23 months of Obama has given us record deficits, record unemployment, longest jobless stretch since the 1930′s, record bank failures, record foreclosures, record poverty rate, failing dollar, national poverty at record highest level, foreign policy disasters, record number of golf games played by a president, record death toll in Afghanistan, record number of food stamp recipients, consumer confidence at record lows, auto bailout money being used to build a plant in Mexico, ME-Chelle with a record number of personal assistants, the worst environmental disaster in the US largely ignored and exploited for political gain, SEC now immune from FOIA, internet wiretaps made easier, executive order used to assassinate Americans overseas, don’t ask don’t tell still on, Gitmo still open, secret wiretaps still on, lobbyists, corporations and special interests still have unimpeded access to members of Congress, a ‘Safe Schools Czar’ who is pedophile friendly, record number of unelected and unaccountable Czars, continuation of the war in Iraq and the expansion of the war into Pakistan and Yemen, bills passed in the dead of night on weekends and holidays in order to hide them from the public -
November can’t come soon enough!

While you’re considering supporting Arizona’s conservatives, please consider that the ‘establishment’ has ignored both women two districts: Ruth McClung, of course, and in Phoenix there’s Janet Contreras. Janet is trying to unseat another long-serving liberal, Ed Pastor.
These exceptional conservatives haven’t received support from the elites running (for now) the party. A large fundraiser was held in Phoenix for the Republic *men* (McCain, Schweikert, Kelley, Gosar) with zero consideration to both women – who apparently aren’t members of the ‘club’.

the poll isn’t exactly an outlier…
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/house/az/arizona_7th_district_mcclung_vs_grijalva-1717.html
magellan had her within 2 points at the end of september.
the district is a +6 dem on the pvi, and it is actually an extremely good sign that there are so many undecideds. history usually favors the undecideds breaking to the gop, and in a year where the gop is far more motivated, and the dems more depressed, the advantage increases.
those who donated for her campaign should be encouraged by the fact that getting her face out there only helps build her advantage.
+6 dem…a sweet, but quite possibly temporary victory. the future is up to her.

Chickenlips, at least Hamas isn’t running a phone bank for us like they did for Hussein in 08.
Some of my Grijalva coverage commented:
Grijalva isn’t a “socialist”, and the post doesn’t mention a disreputable past membership he does have. Not telling the truth and not knowing the full truth isn’t exactly going to help oppose him, now is it?
Further, I came here through an Instapundit link. Earlier this year, Insty had a big laugh about a teapartier holding bunny ears behind RaulG’s head. Insty didn’t suggest engaging RaulG in debate in order to show how he’s wrong. Instead, he just encouraged the teapartiers to engage in yet more childish behavior.
That’s not going to help oppose him.
See some of my RaulG posts at my name’s link.

So.
It *does* take a rocket scientist to point out the obvious:
It is thoughtless (not to mention bizarre) to call for harm to the people one has been selected by to represent them.
