Republican Whip Eric Cantor announced the “You Cut” program yesterday on Big Government and the Greta Van Susteren Show on FOX News.
Republican Whip Eric Cantor introduces YouCut, a first-of-its kind initiative designed to change the culture of spending in Washington to a culture of saving.
YouCut – a first-of-its-kind project – is designed to defeat the permissive culture of runaway spending in Congress. It allows you to vote, both online and on your cell phone, on spending cuts that you want to see the House enact. America is at a crossroads and the choices we make at this critical time will determine what kind of country we want to be. To get back on the right path, Congress must start to make some choices that simply can’t be delayed any longer. While we won’t be able to solve our deficit problems overnight or with one silver bullet, we can and we must begin to replace the culture of spending that now dominates Washington with a culture of savings. Just imagine if your government was as focused on saving money as it is on spending money.
You can vote on this week’s list of government programs including “Taxpayer Subsidized Union Activities” and the “Presidential Election Fund” by going here.

Not the first of its kind… Mike Haridopolis (R-FL) started putting the FL state budget online for those of us in FL to vote on budget items… think Cantor got this idea from Mike… great idea, hope it stays and grows!!
dad29 commented:
Cantor doesn’t have the guts to offer this option, but I do.
Cut the entire US Dept of Education. $62Bn in budget PLUS $96Bn in ARRA waste will revert to the taxpayer.
Who needs Cantor’s namby-pamby baby-steps when the very definition of uselessness (D of Ed) is out there?
bill-tb commented:
This is all a distraction … Stay the course people, get those candidates lined up, choose the best, brightest conservatives.
This is going nowhere, and hey I think Cantor is doing a good job.
KR commented:
dad29,
It would have to pass in the House and Senate.
How likely is that, even with a Republican majority after November’s election?
I’d love to see the D of Ed. cut though.
Kevin P commented:
First thing to cut – Nancy Pelosi’s private air service (aka the U.S. Air Force taxi service for Pelosi and friends).
Kevin P commented:
Then Congressional “mailings” which are nothing more than govt. funded (that’s me an you) campaign literature for sitting members of Congress. Russ Carnie-han’s amout??? $250,000/year. Multiply that by 520
Of course the Dept. of Ed. The EPA. ACORN. Planned Parenthood. Dept. of Agriculture. Dept. of A$$wipes…

Please Remember:
Moderate Republicans are RINOs — they are the cancer that needs to be “cut out” in November!

How about the “War on Drugs”? How much money are we pissing away on keeping Drug Kingpins’ market lucrative. I’ll bet its more than the $260 Mil we are spending on the Presidential Election fund! How much money are we GIVING to countries that hate us? I respect the effort but until they come up with some viable financial options its just more lip service from the GOP.
Katja commented:
I tried voting via the website, and when I entered my email address in and hit “submit” I just got the message “Service unavailable”.
Insufficiently Sensitive commented:
Yee-hah! Here I go a-votin’, shut down Pelosi’s gloatin’.

Their survey needs one more choice: “All of the above”.
EJ commented:
C’mon folks, stop knocking the guy…it’s a marketing idea to get the message out…shut up and send the link to your friends and neighbors and let’s get the number of votes up for ANYTHING on the darn list! He’ll use the data to paint the dems as the wild_ss spenders they are when they vote AGAINST cutting these programs when millions of us want them CUT!
burt commented:
I bet if I put a 2×4 along side the temple of this #!*%$@&. He will suddenly be able to come up with dozens of items he can cut from the federal budget. We could start with foreign aid to every one of the world’s dictators and move on from there. He is just another Obama sycophant.
Mary commented:
What we need is more complicated tax forms.
You sit down and work out your taxes. Then you pull out another form and say, “10% goes to Social Security shortfalls, 90% goes to defense.”
And if your neighbor puts 100% into welfare, well, you didn’t earn those taxes.
Perhaps a certain percentage has to go to debt service (though you could increase it, no doubt).
People have to decide where to cut, and Congress’s life is a lot easier.
Kathy from Kansas commented:
I came, I saw, I voted.
I sent it to all my friends.
I encourage everyone else to do the same.
It will get to be “a thing”–like the Tea Parties, like the Town Hall meetings, like Sarah Palin’s appearances. All of this builds momentum, all of this helps.
Seeing Republicans introducing these bills to cut the “program of the week,” week after week, will be gratifying to us and a royal nuisance to the Democrats. It doesn’t matter one whit whether any of these bills stand a chance of actually passing, because it will get to be “a thing.” They will want to shut us up, but they won’t be able to because too many of us are informed and will be watching. It will generate week-to-week interest the way “American Idol” does. What program’s gonna “win” (lose) THIS week? And every time they try to shut the Republicans up, it will expose the Dems as the spendthrift, out-of-touch, irresponsible, arrogant, clueless losers they are.
I’m excited. This is the kind of out-of-the-box tactic I have been hoping to see from the Republicans. It’s almost like they’ve been taking lessons from Sarah Palin and the Tea Parties. Bout time and bravo!
And thanks, GP, for alerting us to it!

Dear Senator Cantor,
The following message was sent to the Prime Minister and Canadian Members of the Parliament. Implementation of this system in the USA will save government over $100 billion every year and more than $150 billion on business and citizens side. This is the very exciting economic, social and political idea. I hope you will appreciate the weight of this news. I would gladly personally explain to you the economic and social benefits of this system. Entire business and individual tax codes will be eliminated. System technically is easy to implement.
I hope that saving $250 billions every year means something to the politicians.
Thanks. Richard Hombek
Dear Prime Minister and Members of Parliament,
I am a small business owner and for many years I was struggling with the burden to administer tax payments and tax collections on behalf of the government. Dealing with complicated tax codes and regulations is a daunting task even for the well trained tax accountant.
For many years I was thinking that must be a better way of collecting revenues to run the governments. Finally I came up with idea which I summarized in my US patent application ( http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100023433 ). I would like to make appointment with you to personally explain all the benefits and way of implementation of the new system. This system can safe approximately $25 billions every year on cost of administration of collections. It also will replace all the taxes and fees at all levels of government and provides automatic collection and distribution of funds. All the tax codes and regulations, both for business and individuals will be replaced with 20 to 30 pages of regulations. Creating simplified business environment in Canada will bring a lot of international companies to Canada and many prosperous individual will select Canada as a place of residence and business. This system will also create very stable stream of revenues and avoid current problems with budget deficit.
I had a chance to discuss this system with many accountants, tax lawyers and academics with the very positive reviews. I have also run some discussions forums and 95% of participants would vote for the party which would place this system as a part of election platform. I’m hoping that you will find some time to discuss it with me personally.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Richard Hombek, Ph.D.
