Hope & Change – UK Style

Beneath his polished veneer, UK liberal democrat leader Nick Clegg appears to be your average Brit-hating leftist. In a previous article written in 2002, Clegg wrote that Great Britain bears a cross bigger than Germany’s Nazi past.
That’s nuts.
The Telegraph reported:

The Liberal Democrat leader said the British have “a misplaced sense of superiority, sustained by delusions of grandeur”.

In an article written in 2002, Mr Clegg, who was then MEP for the East Midlands, described the shame he felt over an incident on a school exchange trip to Germany.

“A boy called Adrian started it,” Mr Clegg wrote. “He shouted from the back of the coach, ‘We own your country, we won the war’.”

The future Lib Dem leader said this was an example of what he described as a “warped” British obsession with Germans and the Second World War. “It is easy enough to explain the mixture of arrogance and insecurity that fuels this peculiar British obsession,” he wrote. “Watching Germany rise from its knees after the war and become a vastly more prosperous nation has not been easy on the febrile British psyche.”

He accused politicians, including Gordon Brown, of encouraging “condescension towards Germany and the rest of the EU”.

“All nations have a cross to bear, and none more so than Germany with its memories of Nazism,” Mr Clegg wrote. “But the British cross is more insidious still. A misplaced sense of superiority, sustained by delusions of grandeur and a tenacious obsession with the last war, is much harder to shake off.”

Nicholas Soames, a Tory MP and grandson of Sir Winston Churchill, said Mr Clegg’s comments showed he was “unfit to lead a national party, let alone the country”.

“People across Britain, particularly those who bravely fought for their country, will be disgusted by these comments,” said Mr Soames.

UPDATE: Leftist Klegg also happens to be anti-Israel.

  1. “Watching Germany rise from its knees after the war and become a vastly more prosperous nation has not been easy on the febrile British psyche.”

Or maybe watching them kill 6M Jews and others and plunge the entire world into war…twice. Could be that. Just a thought.

  2. Because of Germany and their opinion of their own superiority above all others cost the lives of millions upon millions of people who fought to stop their aggression. A whole generation was lost in Britain, and although most Germans of today didn’t have their hand, personally, in the WW’s, Nazism has not gone away in Germany; it just went underground. The European Union doesn’t make a move unless Germany Constitution approves it. Germany has managed to take over Europe right under the noses of peoples without firing a shot.

And not only that, kids shout stupid things all the time…..far be it nowadays for any British person to be allowed to feel good about their own heritage. God giveth and God taketh away. Right now, God is busy taking away from Britain for their turning their back on Him. God Bless Britain and Have Mercy On Her….which He will.

  3. Leftists our fueled by 2 things – pathological self hatred and a superiority complex. As a former hardcore leftist I should know.

This fellow former liberal gives some additional insight into leftist ideology:

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/04/leaving_liberalism.html

  4. Actually Nazism hasn’t gone underground, it has risen once again under the leadership and appeasement of socialists and liberals, even though they continue to accuse the right of being the Nazis.

  5. Liberalism is a mental disease.

  6. They said this guy could be the British Obama. Looks like they were right!

  7. “…misplaced sense of superiority, sustained by delusions of grandeur…?” Maybe he was thinking of Canada?

  8. After WWI, the French government didn’t just say nasty things, they physically looted German industrial sites, and hauled off Germany’s means of economic recovery. That was action.

After WWII, the Americans and the Brits were in control, and they established the Marshall Plan, that allowed Germany to rebuild in peace and stability. That was action.

In light of these actions, a schoolboy’s words are trivial.

  9. Speaking of Nazis…

This might deserve a post, Jim.

“Organizing for America, Barack Obama’s political organization that’s run by the Democratic National Committee, wants to recruit and train a cadre of activists, and is holding camps all over America. Find one near you here…” (map follows)

Also noted in this American Thinker article:

“Cannot help but wonder how the folks interested in supporting Obama pronounce (or think of) ‘OFA’.”

    1. A word of unspecified West African origin that refers to “white” people. It’s commonly used in the American South but has fallen out of favor as “White Devil” has assumed prominence.
    2. disparaging term for a Caucasian.
    3. Insult to a white person from a black person meaning punk, cracker, b***h.
    4. dirrogutory [sic] term for white folk.
    5. rather outdated Black English for “foe,” origin unknown. See page 26 of the 1971 Bantam edition of Ann Fairbairn’s novel Five Smooth Stones, where one of the African American characters, Geneva, defines it as meaning “foe” but gives no hint of etymology. I’d be tempted to go with the African origin.

  10. When I’m in London, I have planned to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Westminster. The soldier they buried there is an unknown Tommy from the fields of WW1.

In WW1 Austria and the UK were enemies.

In WW2 Austria and the UK were enemies.

My grandfather was in the Luftwaffe.

I will still go there to pay respect to a soldier who fought bravely.

If I see Nick Clegg on my way there, I shall spit on him.

Or maybe watching them kill 6M Jews and others and plunge the entire world into war…twice. Could be that. Just a thought.

    Twice? Nope.

WW1 was not about freedom, not about justice. If it had been, then everybody would have stayed out of the beef between Serbia and Austria.

Short history lesson: the radical Serbs murdered the Austrian heir to the throne (and his wife.) Austria declared war on Serbia. Serbian ally Russia declared war on Austria. Germany jumped in and declared war on Russia and Serbia, then the UK and France declared war on Germany and Austria.

    Germany hardly started that war.

Rowan Atkinson’s Blackadder described the whole thing perfectly in an episode of Blackadder Goes Forth.

Alliances, that was all. And then the good old domino effect came into play and suddenly… whoops… a war!

As for WW2… well… Chinese historians will disagree with that. Even some Japanese historians would. Most early date for WW2 one can give is the Mukden Incident 1931.

  11. England is about to elect a moron.

Hitler killed 50 million people and would have killed another 200 million if he won. But a school boy talking smak on a bus now that’s far far worse.

England is about to elect a moron.

  12. “But the leftist cross is more insidious still. A misplaced sense of authority, sustained by utopian delusions and a depraved moral double standard, is much harder to shake off.”
There, fixed that for ya, Nick.

  13. I know someone from Great Britain who dislikes Germans because of what Germany did to his own family.

  14. It’s hard to believe that there could be British politicans who hate British culture and its achievements even more than Labour. Yet, watching Germany become an economic powerhouse as the UK became a basket case in the 70s must have been difficult. Today, however, most of the UK’s problems are self-inflicted, and their Nanny-state Nazism and politically correct behavior is in the process of destroying their society. The UK is probably the most anti-Semetic country in Europe and the British press regularly demonizes Israel and Jews. Meanwhile, Scotland Yard has decided that’s ok for Muslims to throw shoes at people, but try to take a picture of your own child at a playground, you’ll be arrested.

  15. The minute I read that Clegg was a Rock Star I knew someone was trying to sell this jerk to Britain in the same way that we were sold Obama. I came to love the British people for stiff upper lip attitude during and after WW2. That tight little island was all alone in the dark days before we entered the war. If it wasn’t for their perseverance in holding off the Nazis while their country was bombed on a nightly basis — we might all be speaking German today.

God bless the Brits they deserve better.

  16. The Brits always fought the good fight, the Nazi’s where pure evil.
The British don’t owe apology’s to anyone, during world war 2 they practically took on the German war machine by themselves. The Americans where late into the fight but the together they where victorious.
Nowadays the British are being destroyed by the liberals in it’s own midst. This is a war that they might finally lose. The US won’t be able to help this time, we have been terminally wounded also.

  17. Taunts by school boys on buses is pretty much the same as writings on bathroom walls. Not much to form the basis of a manifesto.

  18. This is what happens when England loses its Christian roots and tends toward Moslem rule, and atheism and anti-conservatism. Their schools hate themselves but they worship Islam, their people are stifled into complacency and it is a camera-laden surveillance society. England is almost Bankrupt now. they hate Thatcher, but she saved England from dissolving.

  19. Clegg’s just your average bloke from Sheffield – and he’s … foreigner metropolitan liberal-left ‘elite’ who far prefers any and all European countries to GB. … profoundly hated democracy…

Clegg’s foreign policy = Give U.K. to Iran and Taliban.

  20. Nazism underground?

Though taking place in Austria, not Germany, Barbara Rosenkranz, a woman with 10 children who is nicknamed “the Reich mother” and has called for the right to question the historical truth of the Holocaust, is expected to win up to 25% of the vote in Austria’s presidential election next Sunday.

  21. America capitulated in 2008, is Britain about to make the same mistake?

  22. The Brits used to be great, but thanks to 20 years of liberalism, sadly no more.
