BUSTED— Blogger Adam Sharp took on pro-Obamacare liberal Rep. Phil Hare (D-IL) at a town hall in Illinois today.
When asked where in the Constitution it says that Americans can be forced to buy health insurance, Hare responds:

“I don’t care about the Constitution… I believe that is says we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Umm… That’s the Declaration of Independence.
Adam Sharp was brilliant.

Jackpot!
You’ve got to love Sharp’s last line as Rep. Hare peels out in his gas guzzler,
“Better start looking for a job.”

Exit Question: So, who here believes this lib who doesn’t know the difference between the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence read the 2,000+ page Obamacare bill 3 times?…
Anyone?

  1. OK Phil, I’ll meet you where you are regarding that Right to Happiness in that Declaration of Independence thingy. I claim that right includes the right to be let alone by the government. You want to pay for “30 million” (bogus dim talking point) uninsured “citizens) fine, you pay for it out of your own pocket.Geez, where in the heck do these people come from?!

  2. What a coincidence, Obama made the same mistake.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uVZHZmkb58

  3. So people elect fools like this to be in House of Representatives. Then they wonder why their Representative doesn’t care about them. Another Brain Dead Dem Congressman from Georgia thinks Guam is going to flip over and capsize.

No wonder these fools follow Pelosi — Its the blind leading the deaf and dumb.

  4. Any Republican tortoise could be Phil Hare in November.

  5. You’ve outlined an effective campaign spot, provided there’s a candidate to run against him.

  6. wow.

a shinning example of of the village idiot being promoted to his level of incompetence

  7. Odds are libturd Hare comes from a gerrymandered district where the voters do as their labor union and their gramps told them and will never be defeated. Vote democreep because they are the party of the working man and the poor they were told by a grsandfather who could barely read.

  8. This guy is from Northwest IL–17th district. The GOP candidate is Bobby Schilling. While the IL Establishment (including GOP) seem to be in denial, polling shows some northern IL Dem Congressoids at risk b/c of their vote for socialized medicine.

Alexi G has called out Mark Twerp saying, “No way? you really are calling for repeal of healthcare?” The IL Dems have Twerp convinced that opposing the socialized medicine bill is gonna kill him in the election. Twerp obliges by issuing an email saying he’s not calling for repeal, but changes to the bill. What a wooss. Twerp reads the Chicago papers too much.

  9. The office of the Clerk of the US House of Representatives:
The oath of office required by the sixth article of the Constitution of the United States, and as provided by section 2 of the act of May 13, 1884 (23 Stat. 22), to be administered to Members, Resident Commissioner, and Delegates of the House of Representatives, the text of which is carried in 5 U.S.C. 3331:

“I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

has been subscribed to in person and filed in duplicate with the Clerk of the House of Representatives by the following Members of the 111th Congress, pursuant to the provisions of 2 U.S.C. 25:

    Illinois: 17. Phil Hare

Apparently he lies. Is being forsworn an impeachable offense?

  10. We have seen the enemy and they are DUMB.
WE have been asleep at the switch and not involved. (statistically) Let’s role up our sleeves and clean up the childrens mess.

  11. ‘Midst the Legions of the Damned…

    Their testimony’s destroyed,

    by, in, and of themselves.

    One man curses others;

    the other defends gross lies.

    The third has no inkling

    ‘where his loyalty resides.

    They hunt, seeking converts

    ‘midst legions of the damned.

    They would destroy darkness,

    in a world, claimed un-Manned!

    What they do to others,

    in others, they call sin.

    Among the valley’s blind,

    the darkness lies within.

  12. Although I am as upset at this government power grab and open assault on our constitutionally protected freedoms as many others, I’m uncomfortable with this news story and videotape.

Jim Hoft, I think the title of this post (and the quote) is incorrect. I listened closely, and I heard him say:

‘I don’t WORRY about the Constitution.’ And a moment later he says ‘I don’t care about THAT…’ The ‘that’ seemed be referring to a group of issues that he was trying to contend with.

I wish those confronting this representative had restrained their words a little more. During what is supposed to be a discussion, simply telling someone ‘you’re lying’ isn’t going to win arguments or win others to our effort in repealing this. People who interview for a living rarely do that- instead they will draw out the subject and let the one being interviewed expose himself by his own words. Flatly saying ‘you’re lying’ stops the conversation, allows him to walk out of the exchange while gaining sympathy as a victim, and makes us look like bullies. All of which suits his purposes, and undermines ours.

The representative was clearly on the defensive and under pressure, he was about to concede the principle that the legislation was not constitutional. The man holding the camera had stopped him dead with refuting that ‘this bill will provide health care for 30 million more people’, and darn it should have quoted some authority to back that up, instead of ‘everybody says it’. He tried to keep the conversation productive, but the ‘you’re a liar’ accuser gave the Representative an opportunity to walk out, and he took it. This did not end well.

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  13. Rep. Phil Hare (D-Bag) using the lib playbook of anecdotes and emotion to trump constitutionality. They really are okay with being off the reservation, aren’t they?

  14. Conservatives hear: “Constitution”.

Liberals hear: inconvenient “charter of negative liberties.”-Obama

If I can avoid making silly mistakes, I can reduce looking silly myself. How does one ‘role up’ their sleeves? Making mistakes like that is self-defeating, don’t you think?

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  16. Just another useful idiot of the left that does exactly as he is told and can’t think for himself.
Way to sell your soul to Nasty Pelousy, Sir.
    You are her biotch, Sir.
How’s it feel to sell your principles down the river? What a disgrace.

  17. Appealing to emotion is a logical fallacy such as simpleton’s said stories about people dying because they don’t have health care. Life is tough, the system is imperfect and people die. What we don’t hear about are the 90% of success stories where people’s lives are bettered or saved because of the best free-market health care system devised by man. The profit motive creates innovation. It is idiocy to destroy 90% of the good to remedy 10% of the bad.

What this is really about is that Congresses have emptied the trough of entitlement monies and need more slop to cover their malfeasance.

  18. And there you have it.

The triumph of liberal good intentions over EVERYTHING.

Perfectly articulated by a true believer.

  19. We are being taken over by idiots. That’s what really hurts. There is something wrong with Nostrils Waxman trying to intimidate the CEO’s of some of our largest corporations.

I bet Phil Hare thinks that four score and seven is a Vegas Craps Game. Lincoln would role over in his grave.

  20. Rep. Hank Johnson: Guam could ‘tip over and capsize’. No, really – this is true. I KNOW it sounds like an April Fool’s Day prank, but it is FOR REAL:

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is afraid that the U.S. Territory of Guam is going to “tip over and capsize” due to overpopulation.

Johnson expressed his worries during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the defense budget Thursday.

Addressing Adm. Robert Willard, who commands the Navy’s Pacific Fleet, Johnson made a tippy motion with his hands and said sternly, “My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.”

Willard paused and said: “We don’t anticipate that.”

I’m sorry, I am laughing so hard I can’t type anything right now…Holy s**t. This is an elected official??? Are you freaking KIDDING me??

Just in case you are worried that Guam, or Hawaii (the entire chain), or Manhattan, or any other island, for that matter, might just go tipping over while you are out strolling around, fear not:

Like other islands, Guam is attached to the sea floor, which makes it extremely unlikely that it will tip over, even if there are lots and lots of people on it. Guam is 30 miles long and up to 9 miles wide in certain spots, with a population of 175,000 civilians. The military is proposing the addition of 8,000 U.S. servicemembers and their families.

Reached for comment, a spokesman for Johnson said the lawmaker had visited Guam, and his concern was that the influx of military personnel would overwhelm the island’s infrastructure and ecosystem.

Um, I’m not sure that makes his “tipping over” comment any better!!

You have to see this for your self – it’s a little over a minute in:

How in the WORLD did Admiral Willard answer him so seriously?? How did he not stop and say, “Are you making a joke, sir?” Or, “Am I being Punk’d?? Where’s that Ashton Kutcher?” Or, “You know it isn’t April Fool’s YET, right, Representative Johnson?”

Holy cow. No wonder our country is in the current shape it is if Rep. Johnson is indicative of who is running this show. Guam might capsize. Wow. I gotta say – that’s one I’ve never heard before! Thanks for the belly laugh, Rep. Johnson. That one was a DOOZY!!!

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE: My heart goes out to our fellow citizens in the Northeast, especially Rhode Island, while they deal with record breaking rains, and devastating floods. Many of the areas hardest hit by the floods are also experiencing hard hits with unemployment. Unbelievable what is happening there…

May you all be safe, may your losses be few, may jobs increase soon, and may your lives return to normal as quickly as possible.

There is a video of Johnson saying this complete with gestures which is hilarious on No Quarter.

  22. Does Phil Hare look like John Gacy?

  23. Sandy @#24 ~~

Johnson and Adm. Willard are old friends. It was a put-on.

As much as it pains me to defend a sitting democrat congressperson, fair is fair.
    Read this from neo-neocon:

  24. Peter Warner, you’re being overly subtle, or overly literalist, or perhaps assuming that Hare was choosing his words with precision. He was obviously dismissive, and contemptuous, of the very notion that his legislative actions should adhere strictly to the Constitution.

When he said “I don’t worry about the Constitution,” he obviously didn’t mean something like “I don’t worry that all surviving copies will be vaporized.” He meant that he was not particularly concerned about the constitutionality of the legislation.

  25. What a moron. I sent his opponent $25.

  26. The guy proves that, in order to become a politician, you need to know absolutely nothing. You can be a total moron, like this guy, and still get elected. That says more about the people who vote for him than about him, really.

  27. Radegunda wrote:

‘When he said “I don’t worry about the Constitution,” he obviously didn’t mean something like “I don’t worry that all surviving copies will be vaporized.” He meant that he was not particularly concerned about the constitutionality of the legislation.’

Agreed, certainly. To phrase it simply, he meant that he didn’t care about adhering to the Constitution. Which is what the post headline said.

The problem I have is that in fact, as you yourself wrote, his words were ‘I don’t worry about the Constitution…’ If we’re going to condemn someone for his words, we have to be careful to quote them accurately. Paraphrasing is not acceptable; putting words in people’s mouths is not journalism, it’s advocacy media and I think Jim Hoft’s work should be (and is) above that standard.

That is why the headline for this precise same video and story at Ace and HotAir is ‘Rep. says “I don’t worry about the Constitution” ‘.

Obviously, the man meant that he didn’t care about the Constitution. The fact is however, that is not what he actually said. There is no need to misquote him, the video itself makes his intent clear. Why muddy the issue by misquoting him?

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  28. I don’t believe he read the bill either! He probably saw that Massa (remember that perv?) scored points by saying he had read the bill 3 times and decided to say it, too. At least Massa carried a dog-eared copy of the bill.

  29. This is so incredibly awesome. WE THE PEOPLE are doing the job the media won’t; getting to the bottom line with these corrupt politicians in the Democratic Party where the end justifies the means and they know what’s best for us whether we want it or not.

HOOAH to the little guy! The average American is the Democrat’s new nightmare.

  30. At least his driver used a turn signal when turning into traffic.Does this help ,Mr. Warner?

  31. Honesty is the best policy. In fact, I would guess, that if during the election, candidates would accurately portray their fidelity to the Constitution, the results would fall the same.

Some believe that the reason the law is corrupt is that we do not follow the Constitution, federalism and observe separation of powers. We inappropriately thrust personal, local and state issues into a national forum. It irritates them that people will present stories describing someone’s personal tragedy as evidence for expansion of government power. One false choice follows another describing people who don’t believe in the expansion of government as heartless people with no compassion. The stories are compelling, but never any rational explanation as to why it is appropriate or efficient for the federal government to be involved – only an emotional plea that someone should do something (read surrender liberty).

To some the rule of law makes no sense, The Constitution is not relevant to real life. They watch people have clever arguments about how it applies to this situation and that, but it really is just a quaint old notion. Despite those who would argue for the rule of law, they have seen and believe that there is no firm law, only power, so they need to make sure their party (or their guy) wins so that they can benefit – it is only fair. They feel that they see the world as it is, the ebb and flow of political power. The ultimate gang conflict. Right now, they seem to be right.

The problem isn’t only who is in power, but that we have allowed that power unchecked, unbounded (and largely unquestioned) growth. Time for daddy to take the T-bird away.

    My rant for the day.

  32. The town halls have proved how stupid these congressional clunkers really are. I wonder if they know?

  33. The Democrats are showing a pattern of hubris regarding the Constitution. Pelosi said, “Are you kidding?” when asked a similar question. Hastings the corrked former judge said, “We make up the rules as we go along.” Now this tool comes right out and says he doesn’t even care.

That the media goes along with this despicable example of government in action shows that they also have no integrity whatsoever.

The Democrats are NOT patriotic. Since they are trying to overturn the existing institutions which have brought us to this point, by definition they cannot be.

They have a loyalty to their current ideal of the way they think things should be, but they have no respect for traditional American governance nor traditional political discourse.

  34. When one representative was asked why this obviously flawed bill had to be pushed through congress, she replied, “People are dying.”
And they are not going to die now?
That’s what they have. Individual stories, that in many cases, they make up, that pushes another large entitlement bill that will cause harm to our economy.
We could have, should have, taken the time to do this right.

  35. I’ve been living in Illinois 17 for the past 15 years. Phil Hare was a top aid to Layne Evans before he resigned. Although I never remotely liked Evans, I thought he was reasonably intellegent. Hare is a complete idiot. This is not his first national exposure of looking stupid. Go back and look at his appearance on the Colbert Report. He’s dumber than a box of rocks. Unfortunately, Illinois 17 is the most gerrymandered district you’ll ever see. It’s rigged so a Democrat can keep the seat. No matter how qualified his opponent is, Hare will get re-elected.

  36. He looks like a frumpy, low-IQ union idiot.

  37. Solaratov @ #27

Neo-neocon’s post was an April Fool’s prank. She explains herself in the comments section.

I wish she hadn’t done that prank for just this reason. People are taking her seriously and dismissing the conversation between Johnson and Willard as a joke between themselves when there is no basis for this.

  38. Well, we do have a President who thinks there are 57 States. Elections have consequences.

  39. The time has come to remove these corrupt CommieLib liars from power “By any means necessary”. They should be physically dragged from office and jailed for willfully violating the Constitution. I call on the U.S. Military to stage a good old-fashioned coup.

  40. Video: Shea-Porter plays April Fool’s joke on town hall

“This is going to be paid for, and it’s going to reduce the deficit!” Carol Shea-Porter tells her New Hampshire constituents a great April Fool’s joke, but they only laugh for a moment. She eventually tries offering the “martyr” defense by saying that members of Congress make so much money that the new taxes will wind up applying to them, but that doesn’t seem to impress anyone, either. “What about the CBO estimate?” one man yells, referring to the CBO reply to Paul Ryan showing ObamaCare to be a budget buster, and a woman yells, “You broke the Constitution!”

Maybe she needs better comedy writers?

  41. He doesn’t look like a “hare”, either. More of a porcine look about him.

  42. People from Illinois. Go to http://www.ilfairmap.com and sign the petition the Illinois Women of Illinois are trying to get on the ballot this Nov. to get rid of this gerrymandering. We have to have so many names before this can happen, but we can try.

  43. It’s confirmed. Liberalism correlates to stupidity.

    http://libertyatstake.blogspot.com/
[For a light hearted take on our present peril]

  44. Phil Hare is a first term Congressman from Rock Island, Illinois. He was an aide to the former Congressman, Lane Evans, who represented the 17th District of Illinois from 1983 until 2007 and retired for health reasons. (A poster boy for term limits if there ever was one.)

On his web site, Mr. Hare says he served in the national guard and cares about the Constitution. What he doesn’t say is where the Constitution gives Congress the power to run health care or to require everyone to buy coverage. He would do well to read Article I and then read the 3,000 page monstrosity that is now law.

  45. Last September Congressman Dave Loebsack IA dist 2 (D) told a town hall meeting in Burlngton Iowa that it’s ok to inject socialism into the government, and he know’s it is nowhere in the Constitution. adding, “we do it all the time, if we didn’t we wouldn’t get what we want.” The town hall was carried by KBUR radio and can be found in their archives.
So I am not surprised about the event in Quincy. The two locations are not far from each other.
