A new book claims Bill Clinton compared Barack Obama to a servant.
Ben Smith reported on Bubba’s racist remarks from the campaign trail.
I’ve finally gotten my hands on a copy of Game Change, in which John Heliemann and Mark Halperin report:
[A]s Hillary bungled Caroline, Bill’s handling of Ted was even worse. The day after Iowa, he phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy. Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.
Could you even imagine if a Republican would have said anything like this?
Trent Lott’s 2002 comment about can’t touch this.
Of course, this is not the first time that Bill Clinton was accused of a racist attack against Barack Obama. In the 2008 primary Bubba called Obama’s historic campaign a fairytale which outraged the Obama supporters.
So will the state-run media be able to bury this by Monday?

Let’s not just pick on the husband of the current Secretary of State or the current Senate Majority Leader. Obama’s own Vice President expressed a similar opinion in February of 2007.

I think Bill was talking about his lack of experience and not referring to his skin color. He was saying basically he was more qualified to be an aide then even a senator.
Would Kennedy have taken it as “so deeply offensive,” if Obama was white? Perhaps Kennedy’s comprehension was tainted by a twinge of racism rather then the remark itself.

I suspect that Clinton was indeed simply alluding to Obama’s incredible lack of qualifications for the office of President — i.e., if people had been evaluating Obama on how his actual experience prepared him for a job, he would seem more fit for a position at Starbucks than the position of leader of the free world.
That said, if Kennedy was in fact incensed at this statement of Clinton’s, I suspect he was outraged that someone he considered a slick hick from Arkansas would dare to class himself with a member of the royal family of America much more than he was offended by any seeming disparagement of Obama’s fitness for the office.

Disclaimer.I haven’t voted for a Democrat Party Presidential candidate since 1976. I will die before I cast another vote for a Democrat at the national level.
Trent Lott was saying that things would have been a lot better if Dixiecrat Strom had had his way back in 1948 and back in 1964, for that matter. Which is a bunch of hooey. Only a damned idiot would make such a statement. Back then Strom wanted to keep Jim Crow.
My interpretation about Clinton’s coffee remark was that he was saying that ∅bama several years back was just a lackey. Which is an accurate description of a state legislator compared to a former President. I would give Clinton a pass.
I agree that had a Republican made such a statement, the MSM and the Demos would have been all over the statement, “racist..blah blah blah.”
In only wish that while I would not play the race card on Clinton for that remark, that the other side would stop incessantly playing the race card for statements much more innocuous than Clinton’s. The whitewash by the MSM began tonight (Sunday) on 60 Minutes. Anderson Cooper reported. No mention of Clinton’s remark nor the “Negro” comment by Harry Reid. The bulk of the segment was Cooper with Steve Schmidt, bashing Sarah Palin. My wife and I were speechless when it was done. I finally told her, “One word: disgrace.”
