WATCH: Another Massive Flash Flood in Nepal Destroys Bridge, Wipes Out Homes

At least five people are missing after Nepal was hit with another flood this weekend.

The flash flood completely destroyed a bridge and wiped out homes.

This time the flash flood was triggered by a landslide that blocked the Budhi Gangraki river.

The landslide formed a dam which later led to the flash flood.

The AP reported:

Residents along the Budhi Gandaki river in north central Nepal evacuated on Sunday as flash flooding destroyed homes and other structures in the area.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority evacuated villagers and warned others to move to safer areas while remaining on alert until late Sunday.

The agency said at least five people are reported missing so far. The flash flood also damaged or destroyed four bridges, swept away about three dozen houses and damaged the construction site of a hydropower plant.

Several power and communication towers were also damaged along the riverside.

Nepal’s army said in a statement that it was continuing to rescue stranded people using helicopters and ground troops. They had rescued 49 people by Sunday afternoon.

In August a massive flood was triggered after a glacier collapsed near Langtang Lirung along the Nepal-China border.

More than 1,500 people died and 5,000 people remain missing after the avalanche led to a flash flood of water and debris.

The flood damaged more than 7,500 homes and displaced tens of thousands of residents.
