Trump will use tariffs to try to turn back the clock on the BRICS expansion.
While the BRICS group was created no less than 16 years ago, it took the feeble Joe Biden administration from hell to give a major boost to the idea of a multipolar world – since the US was being governed by the autopen.
Today, the BRICS countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and United Arab Emirates – and some other 10 countries have joined as ‘partner countries’: Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Uganda and Uzbekistan.
It’s a rapidly expanding association of countries, moving towards multipolarity, and – what’s more concerning to the US – de-dollarization.
With the triumphant return of Donald J. Trump to power, the United States is no longer just a pale imitation of its former power.
But even with a reinvigorated America and with Trump flexing his geopolitical muscles like never before, can he really un-ring that bell?

“U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday said that countries aligning themselves with the ‘Anti-American policies’ of BRICS, will be charged an additional 10% tariff.
‘Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’ Trump said in a post on Truth Social.”
While the sovereign decision by Trump’s administration to impose additional tariffs on the BRICS is to be respected, it’s unlikely that these economic weapons will sway anyone but the least committed countries in the group.
